I've read through about 20 threads about similar issues, but I can not find any way to solve my problem.
My Nook has cyanogenmod installed on it (i think version 10, but I don't remember). I had installed it a long time ago, and the nook was working perfectly, never had any problems with it.
Well, I had it put away for several months without using it, and now it won't turn on anymore. I left it charging overnight, using the official wall charger that came with it.
When I push the power button, the screen will come on and show the battery picture for a few seconds, and the led near the charging port will change colors between orange and green.
I have tried pressing every combination of buttons, and holding them for different lengths of time, including upwards of 30 seconds, probably about a hundred times. I even followed advice to hold the power and n buttons down for a full 5 minutes. Nothing.
Is there ANYTHING else I could possibly try here, or is this thing dead?
You can remove the battery and recharge it with an external charger. Then reinstall it. Don't let the battery become fully depleted to avoid need for the external charger.

It happens to some of my HD+ when the battery drained ...
Just plug in the charger awhile ... then hold "power" for a few secs while holding the "Home" key (upside down U) ...

I recently installed CM7 nightly 12 and it's stuck at this screen. I'm using the stock charger. I've tried plugging it into my computer too.. no luck. Is there anything else to try? Am I screwed?
this sounds like something that was happening to me yesterday. i finally got it to charge by making sure it was completely off. i finally realized that even though the screen was dark it wasn't off, so it never charged (i think it was just recycling the charge enough to keep it on). if you look at it in a dark enough light you can see the screen is still on (backlit).
so plug it in, i would suggest using the wall charger. this usually makes it turn on (at least mine did), once it does, hold the power button until its off, no backlight is on. hope this makes sense and helps out a little
There's many others having this problem (me, on my friends nook, one of them). Hold down the Power button for a long period of time (I heard it's 10 seconds, but someone said they had to hold it for 30) and it will do a hard reset. At that point, try to turn it on again normally. If it doesn't turn on normally, plug it in (using the uSB cable that came with it (that is very important) and into the wall with the provided adapter), wait 30 minutes, and try again. It seems that very few (I don't know if i've actually read of any) who had this problem actually had to return the nook. When it happened to me with my bro-in-laws, he just hed the power button cause he was mad and it turned on, it hasn't happened to him since
Finally started working. I tried holding the power down for awhile with no luck.. Left it charging overnight and tried holding power again and it worked!
Good evening everyone, I have a Nexus 7 8gb, but the thing is, I cannot turn it on now.
It happened as follows:
I was using it every now and then, mostly to read and play.
I was using the charger to charge my cellphone too (XTC Explorer) as it was a lot faster, being 2amp/h.
I updated the cell to 4.1 and at the same week noted the battery wasn't running that long, but blamed it to the rom.
The cellphone also took a lot longer to charge with the nexus charger, yet again I blamed the rom.
I noticed the Nex was at 8% while reading so decided to charge it, but I guess I forgotten.
The next time I wanted to use it it wouldn't turn on. I figure it had no battery.
I plugged the nexus charger to the nexus a whole night and in the morning it still wouldn't turn on.
I figured something must be wrong with the charger, so I tried with the cellphone and nook color charger, but both are .5 amps/hour.
It wouldn't charge, neither connected to the pc (also .5a/h via usb) so I tried a psp go charger, as it is rated at 1.5 amp/hour, much closer.
I connected it at night and saw the charging icon (white on black battery with the ray) and left it overnight.
The next morning it wouldn't turn on either.
I've bought it almost two months ago and I really enjoy it =) but now I'm desperate.
I cannot call google play for the warrant because I'm in Argentina, and I don't believe they will ship me a replacement, nor anything. This one my brother bought from them, but he went back to US a few days ago, and I didn't think of giving it to him to RMA.
I tried keeping the on button, for 5 secs, 30 sec, 90 secs, 120 secs, and no dice. Also tried holding the Up Volume key to restart it, but no chance.
Please help!
Had a similar issue to this over the weekend after not charging for 2 days and the battery going dead. I let it sit on the original charger overnight and for some reason it did not charge. It kept booting and shutting down once it booted due to a low battery warning. It eventually got to the point where the screen would go to fuzzy lines and light but no boot.
To finally get it working I did a combination of a few things but don't actually know what got it going.
Put it on a different (kindle) charger and let it sit for an hour or 2, did several hard resets holding both just the power and also the up/down volume and power all at the same time for up to 60 plus seconds. I switched back to the stock charger and did an additional hard boot by holding just the power for 30+ seconds and it started booting and charging.
I did however put it on the charge again last night and noticed this morning it was still at half battery and didn't get a charge. I ended up putting it on a mifi charger this morning and it's charging again so don't know what is up with the stock charger. Also, have all the latest updates to 4.2 as far as I know as there have been charging issues reported with earlier versions...

Try this, it just saved my device:

try holding down the volume DOWN and the power key for 10 seconds, then release the power key and keep the volume down key pressed, and it will force the unit to restart into the bootloader from any stage, its effectively like pushing the restart button on the front of a computer and constantly pressing the delete key to get into the bios.

Seems I cannot find any other people asking this question
Basically I have Nook HD+ rooted and CM10.1 and it works great. I have google market on there and the original Nook OS has been sent to the nether region of hell where it belongs. So it's a pretty decent basic android tablet.
But when I let the battery go to zero and it shuts itself down, it seems that it doesn't turn back on so easily.
I'll charge it overnight and then attempt to power it on, but it doesn't do anything. I see the screen backlight come on but no "nook" logo.
So then I try plugging it back in and hold power and the "n" for 10 secs or so. I'll see the screen turn off.. I'll do that a few more times and finally I see the dead battery logo show up..even tho I charged it all night.
So then I let it charge a bit longer and try again with it still plugged in and finally it turns on.
I was just wondering if others saw this and if there was some proper method I should be using to restart it to avoid this.
Yeah, my nook was doing that same thing for a while. Now though, I let the battery die and I can't get the thing to turn on at all. No backlight lights up, no battery charge icon, the thing's led just glows green for 2 secs then flickers to orange and stays orange for a few secs and then the led turns off. No matter how long I hold the power button or the power plus nook button, nothing happens. I hope my tablet isn't dead forever. Anybody else have this problem and find a way of fixing it?

I also forget to charge mine and it got discharged. I charged it for a bit but couldn't power on. When I plugged the power cable it showed orange light. After changing the power socket and repeatedly press power button for like 7 secs it turned on with 28%. I'm Using CM10.2.

Just keep trying.. i noticed my backlight was so dim that i wasn't sure it was on either until i turned off all lights... then after holding power for like 12 secs i saw it go even darker so I know my backlight was on now.. but like you said.. no logo. Just extrem0 said.. you gotta keep playing with it, unplug it, plug it in again, etc.. it's really hokey. I've been sure to keep it charged up since my last post so I am just avoiding the problem. But it is stopping me from recommending a modded nook to my friends and family because the first time this happens they will come crying to me to help them.

I also have this problem on my Nook HD+. I don't think there is a solution for it, so I'm going for a warranty.
However, before you go for a warranty; flash the stock ROM back on. You're probably think how do I do this with no battery? Well, once your Nook boots up, your tablet will not charge at all. So, we need to charge your Nook whilst it's powered off. Again, how do I go about this? Well, turn on your Nook charger from the wall socket, but do not plug it into your Nook yet. Now, hold the power button on your Nook (ensure that your have no battery at all, and that your Nook does nothing when you hold the power button). Whilst holding the power button on your Nook, plug in your charger. It should turn green, then turn orange. It should stay like this for a while.
Give it a couple of hours, and it should charge up to around ~60% (you may be lucky if it charges more). With that much battery, put the Stock ROM back on and go for a warranty. Don't rely on this method for too long, as with time it will also stop charging with this method. At the moment, it will not charge when the Nook is turned on. Go for a warranty whilst you still can.
All the best.
P.S. Flashing Stock ROM here (step 6) thanks to leapinlar: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2062613
Has anyone else had problems with this particular combination not turning back on? I flashed it several weeks ago, and every time the battery has died (its primary user is a toddler), it's been a hassle to get it to start back up: lots of fiddling with the power cord, power button, N button, leaving it alone, and trying again before it finally turns on. And that's after it'd be plugged in for the whole night.
Last night, I couldn't get it to turn on (even though I was messing with it for half the run time of Guardians of the Galaxy), so I left it plugged in. Usually, it acknowledges a button press by showing the dead battery or charging icon before blacking out again, but now the only thing that happens is the light turns green when I plug it in. No icons, no reaction to button presses.
Anyone know anything?
Did you tried turning it off by holding down the power button for >30sec?

Sorry this response is so late: I never got an email notification that someone had responded to my thread.
But yes, I've tried a ridiculous number of things. And before this, booting up the Nook from a dead battery was a real hassle. It took a solid 10 minutes of trying different power button/N button/boot screen button presses. Even before the battery died, it's been a bizarre, and immensely frustrating, quirk of having CM 12 on my Nook. And the internet seems to be largely resource-free on anything remotely related to this topic.
Hi, near-total novice here, but I've just put CM12 on my Nook HD+ and everything is great except I have the same power down problem. Both Reboot and Power Off result in my Nook rebooting.
I bought my Nook HD+ in 2013 and it has been a great companion all along. About two years ago, I noticed that the battery was not what it used to be, requiring charging too often. Last year, I installed LineageOS on the Nook.
About three months ago, something happened to the battery so that the Nook would turn on and be usable only if the main power was connected. If I switched off the charger, the Nook would immediately shut down - and by shut down I mean it would just blink off, not shut down over a few seconds. Also, in the shut off mode, it would lose battery a lot, like 20 to 30 percent in a day, without any usage.
Then, about a month back, I forgot to charge it for three straight days and now it won't turn on at all. When I connect the charger, the charging light turns from green to red, and stays there, indicating the battery is charging, and the back of the Nook also becomes hot, but whatever I do, it doesn't turn on. When I press the power button, the screen comes on and shows the charging icon for a second or two and then goes off. I've left it charging for a couple of hours, maybe six or eight or so, but it still won't turn on.
If I remove the battery and turn on the main power, the charging light keeps blinking green and red over and over. So, is there any way to use the Nook without the battery, running it off the mains power only? And if there isn't, is there any way to turn it back on? I've already gone through the threads here and tried some of the things but nothing has worked. I don't have a higher power wall charger, and it is not possible to go out in the present condition, what with the lockdown and all.
Please help.
Hi
I also have a Nook HD+ that I'm still playing with

I also installed lineage on mine a year or two back, but I've had random issues with mine. I'm going to try to reset and reinstall it in the near future (like, maybe this weekend or next).

I know that, if the tablet runs dead, you _have_ to put it on the original Nook wall charger and let it sit overnight... mine just went dead a couple of days ago and I tried just plugging the cable into a generic USB charger, but it didn't charge. I then remembered this and plugged it into the Nook charger and it charged overnight.

I have no idea about this part... I've never taken mine apart (I wanted to buy a replacement battery a few years ago but they ran out and I never found more). Update: I just searched and there are a few battery replacements listed with Google search, I just don't want to pay 40.00 to 50.00 when I can buy a new tablet for a little more than that.
I usually just leave mine plugged into my bedside clock and it keeps charged, or if I unplug it plug it back in within a couple of hours.
Hope you find an answer.
