Anybody's auto rotate not working? For some reason mine stopped working

reboot, itll work again if it just happened to stop.

I've rebooted twice

I assume you checked that rotation is enabled via either settings menu or notification quick setting panel?

My n7 did that one time and I gave it a gentle drop flat on a table and it started working. Never had the problem again. Just enough to jar the sensor a bit and "unstick it". If that's even possible. It worked though.

Anyone know about how to get the home screen and lock screen to rotate, or is it just not possible with the stock Google launcher?

You can use Ultimate Rotation Control and force auto rotation for both launcher and lockscreen:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.fameit.rotate

mine is not working eaither it was doing just fine out of the box but now its gone and I think it is affecting my proximity sensor as well when I am ending a call the screen wont come back on after I take the phone away from my ear to get the screen back on to end the call

I dropped once and stop working.
With a few knock and working again, some mechanical part may get stuck.

This thing is awesome. Just remember to select "Force Rotate" twice, once in the app's General settings and once in the app's settings under "Special Cases, Lock Screen".

Mine crapped out today as well. Bad accelerometer. Replacement I coming.

Hah! Came to this thread to share my experience. Sort of dropped my Nexus 6 head down and auto rotation stopped working. Panicked for a while, flashed all system images but to no avail.
Then I thought about dropping my Nexus 6 bottom down and it works now LOL. Damn the internals are fragile.
P.S. Dropped with a case on so no biggie.

This seriously works

Mine stopped working and I was about to re-flash a new ROM to see if that was the problem but I saw this thread too!
I previously dropped my phone from about 2 feet.
I dropped the phone about 4-5 inches face down (in a case) on my desk and that fixed it for me. Great to know it's that fragile

Installed the app suggested my auto rotate we all crazy upside down and sideways so I uninstalled the app and now all is well... Weird but it worked. Why I have no idea just works.

Stopped working after a drop (in a case). This solution worked perfectly for me. Had to drop it upright on the bottom edge onto a soft flat surface with a case from about 6 inches.

This happened to me last week, seemingly out of nowhere. I actually did drop my Nexus in it's case from a chair onto carpet. After reading this post I thought I'd try smacking the back of it but to no avail. I ended up dropping it again from the couch to carpet and after that it started working again! Strange but it works. Hope it helps someone with this issue.

After drop stoped working, but corrected after some hard punch

Awesome thread, mine stopped working after a pretty scary drop on the road side. After reading this thread I dropped mine on a carpet from about 8 inches. Nothing happened so dropped it again on its side and gave it a couple of firm slaps. Works now. Thanks all.

Same here drop in a case....stopped working. Gave some hard hits on the back to fix it.

Touchscreen issues are AWFUL

I love the n7...mostly. I want it to succeed
But the issues where the touchscreen will have dead zones / drop touch / not work properly are killing me!
Is this driving anyone else nuts? I have had two different ones, and they both have the problem.
I'm hopeful that either this will be a software fix, or that there will be a later hardware revision that I can rma for.
But man, this is a big problem!
Edit.....
Here is a post on the problem

Are you not having these issues? I have had them on two different devices... Reports are starting to show up on the blogs.... I figured this was a device wide problem.

Im not having any issues either, but i havent played any tegra 3 specific games on it yet.
It only seems to happen sometimes... Particularly bad after playing intense games (dead trigger, e.g.).
Seems worse on the right side for me.
I in fact only took delivery of the 2nd one in the hopes that it wouldn't have the problem.

No issues here, played a few games and not a prob
Never seen any touch issues myself.
I had the issue this morning after powering up with the charger attached. The right hand side of the keyboard was very unresponsive. I was concerned the rooting I performed last night was contributing to the problem.
After powering off again it seemed to reset and has been working fine the rest of the day.
While it was unresponsive I downloaded a touch test app and it was struggling to see presses over 1/4 of the screen primarily the bottom right when in portrait orientation.
Thankfully it seems to be OK at present.

The things you didn't know about your Nexus 5 yet thread.

Okay guys,
I haven't posted anything on XDA for a long time.
But my stupidity has led me to posting once again.
My Nexus 5 was performing great. Loved it! No defects whatsoever.
In these days it seems like you need to be a bit lucky when buying tech.
It happens quite a lot that one buys a device, only to find that something or other is wrong with it.
With this thought still in the back of my mind, I noticed my N5 behaving strangely a couple of days ago.
And of course thought to myself: "Yep, there we go. What will it be this time."
See, the thing was that sometimes when I turned the screen off and put the phone down, it would turn the screen on again.
"That's odd." I thought to myself. And the weird thing was, it wasn't consistent.
Sometimes it would, sometimes it wouldn't.
Very odd indeed. To top it off sometimes it would have the actually quite cool feature of turning the screen on when I picked it up.
Just before I wrote this I was browsing the web, annoyed about my faulty Nexus, when for a short pause I looked at my desk.
Was I really that stupid? Could it be?
My N5 was laying on my N7... The N7 was nicely protected by a case...
This case... Has a magnet in it...
Apparently the N5 has an auto on off function for flip covers. My god did I feel stupid.
This was one of the biggest face palm's of my tech life and I couldn't resist to share.
Post your recent discoveries!:good:
Cheers,
Daan
There isn't much about the N5 that surprised me, but here goes :
- you can take a picture using the volume buttons (I know it's from 4.3, but I often forget that it works!)
- compatible flip covers can wake up the phone
- you can scrub back and forth through a song on the lock screen (not just skipping tracks)
- ART vs Dalvik
I think that's it.
multi color led is a big one for me... was using light flow but wasn't seeing different colors... tapped on the led a few times and it 're seated'...
You can use your Nexus 5 for hammering nails*

I figure I make one thread where we all can voice our possible dislikes with this phone without having to create multiple threads with different complaints.

Complaints:
* The M8's screen is almost impossible to see when wearing polarized sunglasses. This problem is only when you hold the phone in portrait mode. In landscape mode it looks fine. This is a common problem with LCD screens, but there are steps HTC could have taken to eliminate it, such as using a 45 degree extinction angle, or using a compensating film.
* Button placement: I do not like M8's button placement. I find it hard to turn the phone on or off without inadvertently pressing one of the volume buttons. I greatly prefer M7's recessed volume rocker to M8's non-recessed rocker.
* THIS MAY BE FIXED WITH THE NEW RADIO FIRMWARE IN THE 1.54 UPDATE: My biggest complaint is the fact that the phone often takes over an hour to connect to LTE even when there is a STRONG signal.
My complaints:
1. The power button being on the top of such a large phone is pretty annoying. I came from the GS3, which had the lovely side power button. This is something that I will get used to though. It'd be nice if they made a gesture to lock the phone too.
2. Since the latest update, my mobile signal has been poor. Where I used to get LTE, I now get 3G only. My wifi signal is fantastic compared to the GS3, but the mobile internet is looking rough. If I don't see improvement, I may need to replace the phone to see if it can get better.
Everything else is just incredible. Even with these complaints, I freaking love this phone!

No you can't.
Only way that's possible is if you're on wifi (obviously).
Here are mine, which I'm sure others have mentioned.
1) Size; I actually prefer the size of the M7 over this. It's hard to reach the power button as someone mentioned and the phone is very hard to hold without a case because it's slippery. It almost feels like I'm holding a gigantic EVO LTE. The m7 felt right in my hands. I was surprised because most of the reviews mentioned that it was easier to hold than the m7 due to the curved back. Using it with one hand is pretty tough because I'm so afraid I'm going to drop it.
2) The Gun Metal Gray definitely scratches very easy. I have a small scratch on the back of my phone already and I'm not quite sure how I got it since I baby my phone like my own kid. i was actually going to wait out for the silver version, but with Bestbuy price matching Amazon in conjunction with their $50 instant credit for people who registered their numbers, I felt like I needed to jump on it for $100.
3) Loss of data randomly (never happened on my M7); I understand there is only one antenna and Spark phones rely on CSFB and that it will eventually be fixed.
No other complaints other than those 3. Love the SD Card, Boomsound Speakers, Camera (Yes I do) and the amazing battery life. I no longer have to worry about running out of juice for the entire day.

Apparently unlocking the bootloader prevents you from redeeming the Google Drive bonus. I still bought the device so why no freebie?

I'm very tempted to buy this phone on my upgrade but I know that I do not want to cover it up with a case. My hands are rather grippy on smooth surfaces so I find the gunmetal gray to have a perfect finish. What I want to know is how scuffable the finish is on this phone. I only ever keep it in an empty clean pocket or laying back-down on my desk which is usually clean. Will I have an issue with tiny scratches accumulating in the clearcoat?

I've gotten a couple light scratches and I baby my phone. Not sure how I got them. Never had a problem on the back of the m7.
Anyone else's earpiece crackle during a call or when listening to music? I've been through 2 of them that have been that way. Not sure if its supposed to be this way or what. It's not on the bottom speaker, just the top one.

My Observations
I got this phone as a precursor to replace my 5S, if the iPhone 6 doesn't have a 5" screen. I've only had it one day so far my observations are:
The phone takes a long time to load web pages and play youtube videos
The placement of the buttons is a bit awkward.
The Knock feature doesn't work all the time, nor do the swipe to unlock.
I must've gotten a factory defect, the screen is starting to come off in the upper right hand corner where the front camera sits. How that happened? I couldn't tell you.
I have the Sprint Spark Icon in the notification bar (Spark is in Orlando) but the switch between networks is sometimes slow.
Sometimes to get rid of notifications, I have to reboot the phone. Some icons will stay in the notification area even after the app is closed or I clear it.
Coming over from iOS, not being able to quick scroll to the top of a page is frustrating to say the least. The only place that works is in Blinkfeed, which is pretty cool, IMO, thus far.
Twitter apps for Android suck (can't knock the phone for that though.)
I hate the loud beep you get in your ear when ending a call if you're wearing a Bluetooth.
Sent from my 831C using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
My only gripe is the stupid HTC in a space not used for anything else. If we are dropping capacitive buttons, give us more screen in that spot... not a space for logo.

[FIX - NO REPLACE] Nexus 4 Power Button

FOA: Sorry for the bad english in the thread and in the video, i'm italian, so everything will sounds alot like a "mammamiapastamafia" thread. Good thing that i put the subtitles in the video! :3
Hey guys! As you should know the Nexus 4 is affected by various problems...one of the most annoying surely is the "hard to press" power button. Well no fear my friends! This tutorial will show you how to fix the problem!
------------
READ CAREFULLY
- I don't take any responsability with this. This fix require you to open your Nexus 4. Don't try it if you don't know very well where you're putting your hands.
- This fix doesn't replace any component, it just will fix the button.
------------
FIX STEP BY STEP
1) Shutdown the phone
2) Remove the backcover (use one of the guides you can find on Youtube)
3) Boot on the phone
4) Pick a plastic piece, work on it to obtain a smaller piece to put under the power button of the backcover
5) For every piece try different position if it don't work and then reinsert the backcover to test the key
6) Profit!
-------------
Questions/Answers
Q: Will it last as a fix?
A: I used the fix like a month ago, no problem until now.
Q: Can I use it on other phones?
A: Yes, I guess. If your phone uses the same system to power on the screen there shouldn't be any problem.
Q: What about using the glue to apply the fix?
A: Do it at your own risk. I prefer not to risk.
Q: Can I use another material (paper, iron...)
A: I don't know. I wouldn't use iron or other metals, cause it can conduct the voltage and cause issues to the phone. Also the paper doesn't work.
Qo it work also for the volume keys?
A:Yes, i think. Cause the volume buttons of the N4 works the same way as the power one.

So ingenios. Thank you!
I had this issue too, my power button started to fail in december, 2013... and I did something like this, but I used a small piece of paper (post-it, actually :laugh and worked like a charm until 2-3 weeks ago. I'll probably open my N4 again to replace my workaround, it's starting to fail again.
Plus: to save some pressings on power button, I've installed a Xposed Module (GravityBox) that allows me to use volume buttons to wake up the screen as well, each time I press one of the buttons

Yeah paper could work but it's easier to "ruin" or "corrode", expecially if you think that the Nexus 4 often heat a bit too much. Moreover the paper piece can't be blocked like the plastic piece by the backcover and it could fall inside the phone and ruin something!
Also here's a photo of the original plastic piece I used. Then i've colored in red the plastic piece that I effectively have under the backcover, so you can better see the dimensions..

Sometimes my power button does not work, so I have to press it a second time. The other strange thing is that when I press it to lock the screen (and turn it off), it locks the screen but also turn the screen on showing the lock screen. So will this fix solve my problem? Yeah it's really annoying and it happens on a lot of ROMS and kernels. When I take the phone to unlock it, the touchscreen does not work and I have to restart it holding down the power button (not too easy because mine, as I said, does not work well) D:

If u can try this fix and you know where you're putting your hands i recommend you trying it. For a long time i've been using also s2w and s2s or double tap to wake. During the last period I also "cheated" on the TouchControl settings so that I can use a "Touch to wake" that for me was really useful but the matter with this functions is that alot of times i have switched on the phone just by keeping it in my hand and this was very annoying.

Yeah I know that feel, currently i'm waiting for a OnePlus One, my girlfriend has one and she have the exact same problem, because of the Double-tap-to-wake feature..
Great trick.
I have fixed my mushy power and volume buttons using small pieces of gaffer tape, cut with an scalpel, and pasted on the internal button.
Seems more easier to work the correct size, and thanks to the gaffer, it sticks in place, but can still be removed without leaving glue.
The response is better than when my N4 was new.
Thanks for the tip !

I'd be surprised if folks at Google didn't used proximity sensor to filter noises like this.
Not an issue for me. Never keep phone in pocket but rather death grip on rt hand.

The face detection is an option. I think I read it will work in the background while ur swiping the unlock. I plan on trying it out.

I wonder how much this would affect battery life. Even with a password to prevent unintended calls, opening apps, etc. it would still cause the screen to turn on more often.
From what I understand, ambient display could be turned off. Although I would think that would be the last thing I do. But let's say for kicks that you did turn it off. How would it work without it?

Someone on Reddit posted today that the update that went out yesterday/today fixed the pocket dialing issue. I haven't seen anything official yet or had enough opportunity to test the statement though.
