Well my wife and I got a call from T-Mobile about their new warranty plan and I think I would like to upgrade my phone.. i'm torn because I do like the exhibit (ONLY BECAUSE OF ALL THE HARD WORK FROM THE DEVELOPERS ON THIS SITE) and so i'm hesitant to let it go.. but I would like something that has a faster processor.. bigger screen.. and some built in new features..
I shopped around a little bit.. but you all here know so much about these phones.. I wanted your opinions.. what is the best phone sold by T-Mobile and why?
I originally thought i'd get the Galaxy S4... but I know a lot of guys here decide to get the Nexus 4.. I saw that the Nexus is a pure google experience verses the S4 has a Skinned version.. I did see this morning that there is an S4 "google play edition".. but not sure if T-Mobile sells it..
I also saw the HTC One and Xperia on the shelf.. Can you all please let me know your thoughts?
Thank you!

Its all personal reference no T-Mobile doesn't sell the Google edition s4. I think why ppl like the nexus its a Google phone it will always be the first to receive stock updates. Plus your get the pure android experience and doesn't cost a arm and a leg plus your first born Lol. But if you want all the bells and whistles go with the s4.
Does anyone know if any new phones will be out soon?

It's only my opinion, and you are free to dismiss it at your leisure, but a replaceable sd card and battery are very important. This Exhibit is just about perfect for my needs, and the size is perfect. My wife liked it so much, she bought one (tho she's still on the stock T-Mobile flavor of GB).
Keep up the good work, guys! I hope to use this phone for many years.

I'm giving it some serious thought. I have been trying to move away from running custom Roms and its not that easy. I've been running android since DEC 2009 and its in my skin. Very hard to break this habit! I'm thinking that the moto x just might be the phone that I won't have to mess with to be happy but I may be delusional for who knows what lurks in the long run...

Will they give us our money back if we return within 14 days? It's not very clear on the website terms and conditions. Has anyone contacted Motorola and asked?
I'm right there with you guys, I had a nexus 4 (but sold it due to weak reception and limited storage), then a s3 running cm10.1. I wanted a solid phone running aosp and I think the moto x could be that phone. Mine came today and its almost pure stock android. Only the camera is really different. My only real complaint is the lack of wireless charging.

I know what some of you mean, I'm almost sick of HAVING to root, custom ROM a phone because the offering out of box is still awful, whether it's the skin, bloatware, etc.
There's still so much benefit to rooting that honestly, I feel Android is useless without it still.

Yes I called. You have 14 days starting the day you receive your phone. If you bought the card from att for the moto maker than you can return to store. If you customized without that then you ship back to moto for full refund - 36 dollar restocking

Wow and here I am thinking I was the only one on XDA of all places that was getting tired of custom ROMing. It's not so much a hassle for me as much as I feel that there are some drawbacks to using a custom ROM. I feel that any slowdowns or battery drains, which are getting fairly often with my Nexus 4 on 4.3, are due to CM10.2/PA/AOKP's code and not present with stock ROMs.
As much as the customization is important too, I'd almost give it all up if I can get a smooth, clean, and battery friendly ROM out of the box as intended by Google/Motorola. Tired of all the variabilities. As such, the Moto X is attractive.

Sold my N4 and got the X a few days ago. Couldn't be happier.
If Google had a restore system that worked like Apple's does I wouldn't even root.
I was thinking about picking up a $199 Nexus 4 or paying the off-contract price to get the custom Moto X.
The more I think about it, while the Nexus 4 is a fabulous deal, it's just cheaper really. No LTE isn't good for me where I am since LTE is very fast in St. Louis. The hardware customization cannot be understated.
The other features such as Active Notifications and Touchless Control, which won me over originally on my X decision, don't exist the same way on the N4. So it's still a big difference to me. If I already had the N4, it would be tougher to sell now since the resale value instantly just dropped. But I am still thinking Moto X.
I am torn between purchasing the Moto X off contract (for 550) or buying the N4 at the price it is now but then possibly regretting it since google is putting it at this price because of a new Nexus along the way some time in October, which I am assuming it will be somewhere in the 350 range like the N4 was.
But then again if the Nexus 5 (or whatever it is called) is still cheaper than the Moto X it makes it kind of easier to decide still on what to get.
Doesn't the N4 not have LTE? Seems like that would be a big reason to get the moto X.
I haven't received my X yet, but I think the only thing that is going to bother me is not being able to wifi tether to my laptop. Hopefully this is something that can be enabled if someone just figures out a root exploit (as opposed to a bootloader expoit and a custom rom).
I had the nexus 4 and it was stolen. I just got the Moto X and it is great. However I miss the nexus 4. I loved slim bean on it. All the custom features along with root really made that phone the best phone available especially for the price. Don't get me wrong the active notifications and always on capability of the moto x are awesome but not for almost 600 dollars. I'm going to return it in 14 days and hopefully the nexus 5 will be out. If not I will just get a cheap nexus 4 on craigslist until it does. Since Google just cut the price I should be able to find one for around 100 bucks. That is a ridiculous price for such a great phone. I will miss the always on Google now functionality but will live without it. Who knows maybe the nexus 5 will have it......

Ok so got the moto x and loving it so far. I have only had it since 1030 cst but this is great. I don't have to worry about root or roms and the phone just works. It is very snappy and love the screen colors. Once again something I had to customize on my n4. Anyway great phone so far.

If you've been thinking about upgrading, now is the time to do it. Sure, this means the N5 is incoming, but nowhere else will you find a deal like this on such a fantastic device. And supplies won't last long, I guarantee it. Google is obviously clearing them out. Remember the HP Touchpad? Yeah, you don't want to miss out this time. Ever since I upgraded from the Exhibit, the difference has literally been night and day. Just thought I'd drop by and give the heads up. Cheers, guys!

I got the 16GB version. Only real downside is not having the option for expandable storage. Still, for the price, it's an absolute steal. Performance is incredible, dev support is great, and overall this is the best value for any phone on the market right now. I'd highly recommend buying a case though. Just take my word for it.

Yeah I pretty much decided against getting it, the lack of an expandable SD card slot is too much of a deal killer and would create a lot of extra work. That sounds lazy but after a year of factory resets and installing new ROMs that's what happens!

Not lazy, AD. I agree completely. I could overlook the size (possibly), but the lack of a removable, upgradable SD card is a killer. Technology moves too quickly and these guys have gotten this exhibit working so well...
So I tested the market for the Galaxy exhibit. Apparently, buyers are willing to pay at most $100 for this phone. This is in Canada
SOLD! for $130
Unfortunately, I will not be purchasing the phablet, it is simply to big for my taste and small hands. I was gutted when the rumors of it being 6 inches ended up being true. So, I am now lost as to what other phones to look into as I would like to upgrade my Nexus 4.
What are some phones with similar specs to the Nexus 6 without the ginormous size? I travel quite a bit so a good camera is a must.
Cheers!

The Sony Z3 looks interesting. The Verizon Z3v isn't quite as good, but I'm guessing you're not on Verizon.
I know this is the Nexus forum but the LG G3 might be a good one to put on the list. Still top specs and large screen without the weight and size.

I would get the Droid turbo if I wasn't getting the Nexus. I believe there will be a GSM variant. Smaller but huge battery. I would also consider the OPO.
Ditto what hockeyman12c said. Droid Turbo or the GSM variant (Moto X Play) have nearly the same specs as the Nexus 6 but in a smaller form factor.

Was once the best phone you couldn't buy.
Now it isn't the best phone, the company selling it has the worst customer support in the industry, the Q/C is no bueno...and...wait for it...you still can't buy it even if you wanted to.
Posting their "pre-order" 2 days before Nexus6 is just monumentally stupid timing.
My first recommendation would be the Moto X. I just got mine and it is one seriously amazing device. Same look and feel as the N6, stock Android, unlocked bootloader if you get the Pure Edition... It got kind of a bad rap for its battery, but believe me, it's not as bad as its rating would have you believe. I can get 6 hours screen time, no problem. I can't recommend it enough.
Another option would be the Nexus 5, which is still a beast of a phone. It definitely has at least another year of life left, especially with Android L on the horizon which makes it a completely different phone. I just flashed L on it last night, and it makes me want to use it as my daily driver again, even though I just bought the iPhone 6 and 2014 Moto X. You can't go wrong if you get the N5.
If you are in the US, droid turbo is a good choice

Thinking about picking up a used nexus 6 on tmobile, any known problems I should be aware of? How the battery life on average ? Thank.
If you need to announce yourself as a possible user. Then don't. Skip it the Nexus 6. It gets terrible battery life I'm constantly charging mine or changing the battery. It's a 3 almost 4 year old phone and your very late to the show. In fact its nearly over. Do yourself a favor and get a Nexus 11 or a Nexus 13.
Might as well skip and get the 6P/Pixel if you can.
Camera is so-so, battery life doesn't stand a chance with today's gen.
Well, IMHO, if it's a fair deal for you, and you can't afford/want a newer model, I wouldn't go running from it. Many of us are still very happy with this device.
If the battery hasn't been changed, you will absolutely experience battery problems. With care, it is not too hard to replace the battery and they can be had for ~ $15(US).
You'll want to make sure the USB port is in good shape and not only charges but connects to a PC correctly.
Pure Nexus and lineage are currently actively supporting this device, though Google is stopping updates.
It it's easy to root and flash ROMs. It's a reliable device to learn on.
I started, nexus 6 to nexus 6p to samsung s7 edge to samsung s8 and now going back to nexus 6 there you go

I just picked up a brand new ATT (GSM unlocked- I'm using on T-mo) overstock for $215, and for that price I can't think of a phone with a better dev community and support. The battery life is definitely not bad if you take a look at undervolting/underclocking a bit and maybe sticking to black OLED themes/pixel filters. Definitely has not been an issue for me and the turbo charger is, quite frankly, amazing.
My $185 Moto G4 just kicked the bucket and the Nexus is miles better in almost all regards.
