your question is not Hacking or development related so you have to post it on Q & A forum not Development and Hacking
In new phones of Nokia NO
on old Nokia phones there's a setting to set default search to Google but it's no longer available on new phones
there's also a registry trick for it too but It's better to do not test it if you don't know about Registry keys enough

Hello,
To make default search provider Google, you should go to settings->region and Country/Region option change to Uzbekistan. I have done this trick with both WP8.1 Lumia 925 and 928.

O2 default IE search is Yahoo! (Can't change it)

For some crazy reason O2 changed the search provider, is there a way of changing it?
I've noticed this as well. For the life of me I can't find anywhere on the phone to change it back to the bing search app.
For now, if I'm in IE and I want to search for something, I hit start first then hit the search button.
I dislike Yahoo that much.
I found this really weird too. So it's just an O2 thing?
I pressed the search button in IE and got Yahoo and not bing, it really took me by surprise. At any other time you get bing (or a contextual search box for the hub you are in)
I have not found how to change it either.
I thought such of rubbish things are forbidden in WP7 by Microsoft. What a disappointment if there is not any way to change the default search in browser.
Im unhappy about his as well. There should be a way to change it. Ill try and contact O2 tech support and wp7 support
I think this is pretty mental as it offers a conflicting user experience. I'm not Bings biggest fan, but the fact that you have two different such options is daft.
The key to good usability is consistency
Does anybody think this problem will get resolved or is it likely something we will have to hack around?

I would have thought that to that MS wouldn't allow a change away from their search engine.

So instead O2 lock us into their choice of search engine.
I for one hate the fact that o2 have decided to replace Bing with Yahoo and really hope that future os revisions let us switch it back.
However I imagine MS ain't too fussed what with the fact that Yahoo search is powered by Bing.
Truth be told id like to remove the crappy o2 splash screen from boot as well. Rubbish!
Any updates on this topic?
I want bing!
Hi guys I am on O2 UK HD7 and here goes as follows
O2 Has used yahoo for search in IE
But if you press the hardware key for search it will come with bing
Its kinda mad but yeah we have two search engines built in
SOLUTION : - I personally love google so what I did was
go IE and get to google homepage www.google.com then go setting and Pin to Start
thats it you have a Google Tile for google search
You can preety much pin any of your favourite sites as tiles so I think thats preety neat
The default for T-Mobile US is Google search, so I'm glad they didn't choose Yahoo like O2

Noob question for an App

I'd like to have a Youtube app on my HD2.
I've read so many topics but I just can't figure it out. (I'm a Linux man maybe that's why lol)
What DO I have: I've got a laptop with XP Pro and Zune installed for syncing my HD2 with the computer.
For the rest I really don't know what to install, configure etc.
Can somebody please help me out ?
I've donwloaded Chevron and Youtube lazyworm but now the fun begins ................ ???
You don't need anything beside your Activated phone and an internet connection.
Head over to the market place on your phone, press the search button and type in "Youtube" and hit search, hit install and wait for it. Was it that hard? even if you were a linux man . (joking)
and how do i activate a HD2 with W P 7 ? is that possible ?

What rom are you using? Most rom's out here are already developer unlocked, so Chevron is not needed.
To activate your HD2 running WP7 you have to contact Microsoft helpdesk (by phone, chat or email)
Make sure you use a Live ID with its country set to the United States
Also you must tell them you have a HD7!!!
Sometimes they ask for your phone number (they did ask me I gave my real number, some people give fake ones)
Hope this helps

[Q] Windows Phone 8.1 AND Interop Unlock, can they stay together?

Hello everyone,
First of all excuses in advantage if my English won't be proper.
I'm a new user and I've searched (hoping in the right way) if this question had already been answered -and found that it hadn't.
So I'm opening this thread to know if someone with more experience already knows if the new update to WiINDOWS PHONE 8.1 can *TOLERATE* INTEROP UNLOCK.
In my specific case I've interop unlocked my Ativ S - thanks to GoodDayToDie, Wolf and the other Devs' guides and tools -, now I'm on GDR3 but some of the features that used to work with GDR2 don't work anymore, But this isn't the point..
My question is: "Given the *nature* of interop unlock and its way of managing the features that it allows us to use, will it be compatible -in your opinion- with the new OS? (I'm talking overall about the third tile row hacking, which should be now manageable directly from the normal settings of the phone, do you think they could conflict?)
Regards.
Gidannifico.
Your english isn't bad, you're completely understandable.
Normally, I wouldn't be able to answer this question, it might be possible for Samsung/Microsoft to patch the interop unlock (I really don't know, correct me if I'm wrong), but wolf just posted he found yet another method to interop unlock Samsung devices, and he'll release the unlock after WP 8.1. (link: https://twitter.com/xda_wolf/status/455374020347965440). So, 8.1 should be safe and good to go for you - but I don't know about future updates.
EDIT: The 3rd tile column is just a registry entry, up to now it was only editable with interop unlock, and the new option should just toggle that entry, so there should be no conflicts whatsoever

thank you 4 the answer Thomas,i'll hit the 'thank button' as soon as I turn on My pc,now i'm with the Ativ-beaSt-
If I undestrood what you mean the most reasonable thing to do Tomorrow is to hard reset My Device in Order not to get any possibile 'complication' with the update, then upgrade to WP8.1 and then wait 4 wolf's 3rd Method release..didn't Know it cause I don't have a Twitter account-poor me-.
in any case My device'll be upgraded and if I'll feel the needing to go back I can Always flash again GDR2(I think there won't be any problem to flash even with WP8.1)
Regards and thank you again.

Unhide MMS settings on Lumia Icon after Denim
AR2186 said:
Ok, I was able to get it to work using a modified version of the Windows 10TP for non-supported devices work-around. I edited the WPFlights.xml file to replace the "enable tethering" with "Unhide MMS APN". I am now up and running with on AT&T with my Lumia Icon (also tested/working on HTC One M8 for Windows from Verizon).
If you want to do this on your phone, basically follow the instructions here HOWTO: Install Windows 10 for Phones on Non-supported devices (and other hacks) but replace the WPFlights.xml with the one I have attached. One heads up, I had to install the full version of Fiddler and enable HTTPS before I could install the certificate
Warning: This could brick your phone, so use it at your own risk.
Thanks @RustyGrom r the awesome work you did on the workaround, this is a very powerful tool. Thanks @AlvinPhilemon for the help finding the registry location

Is it possible to edit the APN settings without making other registry changes? I'm not interested in forcing the Windows 10 TP, but NEED MMS to work! Thanks

Yes, I should have clarified I AM NOT running the Windows 10TP on my Lumia Icon. I only used the method for the inherited permissions so I could write to the registry.
I actually couldn't get this working in Windows 10 TP, only on Windows 8.1 on a Lumia Icon w/ 8.1.1 and an HTC One M8 with 8.1.1
Edit: I have now updated the original post for greater clarity

Thanks for the quick response! I browsed through the xml file and it appears that it makes other changes. I could be misunderstanding it.
Do I need to reset my device before applying this workaround?

No, don't reset your phone or you will lose it since it reverts back to the original OEM/Carrier settings. I left the XML basically intact except for the last part (see below) because I don't have a lot of experience (computers, and even more so xml/programming, is just a hobby of mine) and I figured it was safer to replace the "Enable Internet Tethering" option than try to add another option below and risk messing up the XML completely.
The Windows Insider App isn't all or nothing like Preview for Developers, so you can choose among a number of different options that seem to write to the registry in different locations or ways. Once you get in the app, you will have a few options. I don't believe it makes any other changes to the registry when you enable the MMS APN with my method, but if someone can find other changes than I will attempt to rewrite the method to make sure that doesn't happen.
Here is the XML that drives the registry change. Its found right at the bottom of the document, and my changes are in bold

I haven't risked updating the Windows Insider app to get it to work at the moment, waiting to see if they can figure out a workaround. That said, there is a thread in the WindowsCentral forums about getting it to work by installing and then deleting Nokia Access Point. Can't vouch for the method, but others have gotten it to work on T-Mobile.
Could anyone be more specific on how to enable those settings on Lumia Icon? I'm using it in Europe and I'm unable to use mms, so any help here is appreciated.
Cheers.

Please make sure you actually read the thread with the instructions, as it is clearly stated how to accomplish the hack. If you have further questions, please be specific.
For the Lumia Icon you need to have: A) Windows 8.1 and B) the OLD version of the Windows Insider app. You can then change the WPFlights.xml file to include the registry keys to unhide the APN. Basically you need to be able to take on write-access to the registry, and the updated Windows Insider app doesn't allow the hack to work.
For other phones with an SD card, you may be able to accomplish the same using the CustomPFD Registry Editor hack.

There is no way to get the MMS APN settings to show up unless you have the old Windows Insider app still and use the method I described. That said, people have had success getting the Icon to work on T-Mobile by hard resetting it without a SIM card in (see Windows Central Lumia Icon forums), inserting the T-Mobile SIM and setting the Internet APN settings. I imagine that could work on your M8 as well, but no guarantees obviously.
I was able to use my Verizon M8 on AT&T through the Windows Insider trick, but it was a bit finicky with SMS.
Hi,
I am a bit new here, but i really appreciate what you guys are doing. I have a question, because I do not succed in what is described here.
Indeed, I have a M8 with WP 8.1.1 (Verizon edition), but when I do the "How to install windows 10" tutorial, with or without your WPFlights.xml file, it failed at step 11: I have nothing except unauthorized, (empty screen under enroll). On the PC i do have "sending custom flighting response".
Can you help me to fix that ? Is it because I do nothave the "old" version of the app that you have mentionned ? How can I get ?
Thanks a lot !

I actually just turned this off this afternoon on my Lumia Icon on AT&T. Looks like its in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Messaging\PerProvidersettings\0\
I see AllowSendingDeliveryReport, MMSGroupText, SMSDeliveryText, SMSDeliveryNotify, RequestDeliveryReport among other things.

Only way to do it is if you didn't update the Windows Insider app. You can alter the WPFlights.xml file used to workaround the Windows 10 TP update process to make registry edits. I started a thread on it, but unless you have the old version of the app you can't do it
The registry keys that are needed to be edited in Windows 10 Mobile are under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Messaging\PerSimSettings\<longSIMnumber>. To walk the tree, use CustomPFD Registry Editor + Tweaks (I used version 0.3), to modify the value use Root Tool v2, select "Registry Tool For All Devices". You can select HKLM, but then must type the full path, the key and the value. Do check "Check if the value is DWORD". Make sure you can read the value before you try to write. After you wrote, read back. Works with the latest 10.0.10586.71.
