there is a cell phone provider in canada.
not tmobile or att..
they claim to get fresh inventory of N1's
they claim that they will be locked to their network only and cannot be unlocked at all..
level one rep couldnt tell me what band they use-- just that phones will use their own 3G
they will sell phones outright but said that they are useless on another network..
what stock can i put in what i was told?
thanx
Most probably - 0 credibility.
A nexus one CANNOT be carrier-locked. End of story. No matter where you get your N1 from, it WILL come UNLOCKED.

You say that, but there are numerous reports of the French (SFR) N1's being carrier locked.

And it's about 100th time you're writing this and failing to read the reply - that ALL the SFR Nexus that were checked, weren't carrier locked at all. People report what the sales reps tell them.

It will be working on one of those. There are only 2 models of Nexus, one WILL work 3G with TMo, one WILL work 3G with AT&T. Nobody can change it without digging into HW and changing antennas, or at the very least changing the radio to restrict some of the communications - and nobody could get any of this done. HTC doesn't allow HW changes in their phones, and Qualcomm doesn't provide customized radio builds on demand (or at all).
Considering this, I believe the story of this carrier's rep has the same credibility as SIM lock of SFR Nexus - which is, 0.
im pretty sure they are going to videotron in Quebec. they use AWS.

I wasn't serious about 100 times, either
But there were 2 reports on this forum from people that bought the phone, were told that it's locked, checked it and discovered it completely unlocked.

noticed US Celluar finally started selling all versions of Nexus 6 in both colors, anyone know if these are locked to US Celluar or can we work around this, especially since they offer prepaid where you can just buy phone outright(for a little bit more $ though)
I am thinking of giving it a try...
Don't know when I may get my 64gb from T-mobile... already have a 32gb.... I guess if it doesn't I can just return within 15-days... thinking of doing it....:good:

Don't know how to confirm...
in the comments of the article below.... this is the only shred of evidence that it may not be... however they checked with a US Cellular CSR... so no telling if they were just reading a stock answer or what... someone physically doing the SIM swap would have to confirm as I am not confident... The other factor to is that it may work going to say t-mobile or att and not sprint or verizon or even vice versa... really need one in hand to test...

So just to re-clarify the Nexus 6 purchased outright from US Cellular is unlocked, free of any carrier branding (on the actual phone and in regards to software)? It is the same as a Google Play ordered phone, correct?

Yes this is the second source that has confirmed this... (found confirmation on Nexus 6 reddit sight as well by a user) however there are things to consider:
1. You have to live in a US Cellular area to buy over the phone or online outright. Billing address & shipping address must be in US Cellular Coverage Area
2. If you address is not in a coverage area, then you must go to the closest US Cellular Store to buy if they are carrying it in that store... for me its 2 hours away so I doubt I will do it at this point... still considering it over the weekend. This also means that they must let you buy it outright as I heard you can hit a roadblock if they just don't want to sell it to you.
Good Luck Anyone Trying... I am going to try to confirm the stock at the nearest store to me... Doubt they have the magic white elephant (64GB in White):silly:
Called my Closest Us Cellular Store.... Tell me you haven't heard this before... None in-store, insufficient quantities at launch, stores won't have them for awhile.....:crying:
I've got mine and I'm on US Cellular. Got it on the 10th. I was the first person to ask because they didn't even know if yet had it yet. Just be persistent about asking if they have it. They had to go look in the back to see if they had it. I'm not sure about it being carrier locked because I don't have a reason for switching...
Nexus 6
Can anyone with a US Cellular Nexus 6 confirm that the phone is SIM unlocked? If so, is this true even if the phone was purchased with a 2 yr contract subsidy? Thanks for your help!
I was wondering if I am able to use my N6 on sprint or Verizon network. Been going through the web and XDA but just like a straight forward answer. Just a simple question that's all. Thanks in advance.

Yes. I bought my nexus 6 from Moto's website and popped my SIM in and it works perfectly. Don't know what your experience might be if you had to take it to the store to activate.

Your subject line indicates that yours is an AT&T N6. It is carrier locked to AT&T. You will have to get an unlock code, either directly from AT&T or from a third party. Can only be unlocked if you bought it outright, without subsidy. Do a Google search, there are plenty of articles on how to do this.

Yes. But you'll have to get a SIM card from an already activated phone. You won't be able to just walk into a VZW store. The IMEI number won't show up on their list. Go over in General section, there's a thread that explains how this works.

I have N6 on Verizon
When from Retail Rooted Note 3 to N6. They had to dummy a phone on my line that required a nano to get the nano then removed the phone but left thet nano activated. I then popped nano in N6 and good to go. Only downside you CAN NOT use data the same time as making a call. Everything else works great. Extended network, 3G...etc

As far as I know, activation on Sprint should be as easy as getting their Sim card and putting it in. Once the device is freed from the AT&T lock of course.
Read this post and the next few after. Sprint may even have this sorted out by now too.

So, I am trying to do the same now. I have an iphone 6 plus with a micro sim in it, and I am trying to swap that over to an att n6 I just got off the craigs list. I get some bars, and the "hands free activation". But it never goes anywhere and eventually the bars go away and say no sim available. How have people gotten this done?

Both. I was actually able to get it activated using sprints online activation tool. I just had to enter in my MEID rather than IMEI (meid is IMEI minus the last number).

Roger that, thanks for your responsiveness.
When I searched for this I saw many posts from last year, and so I'm not sure if anything has changed. This is likely a stupid question, but I can't seem to find a straight answer.
I have an HTC One M7, and the screen is literally falling out of it. I want to pull the trigger on a nexus 6, and looking on Ebay I see that the AT&T version is the cheapest. I've read that these are locked, but that (at least a year ago) AT&T were letting people unlock them. Is this true? Should I buy one of these phones can I go to an AT&T store and get it unlocked to use a different carrier? I'm on Verizon and since the status of my unlimited data is always in limbo, the less I have to talk to them the better. I'm aware there is a site that will unlock phones, but if I can do it for free, that seems preferable.
Also, aside from doing it myself is there any place I can get my sim card cut? Someone said that bestbuy used to do it, but the nearest one is a long drive for me, and I'd hate to make the trip for nothing.
in order to unlock an att n6 thats sim locked, the phone has to be 100% paid off(to att). if the person is selling it, it might be, or might not. thats the very first thing that i would ask the seller. if it isnt, id avoid buying it, as it could be stolen. if it was stolen, att will never unlock it for you.

Interesting, a lot of the sellers are re-sellers of used phones, how could you actually check to see if it's paid off or not?

there are a few places online that you enter the imei number and itll say if its been reported stolen or not, or if its been placed on the list. if it has been placed on the list, then every US carrier will not let you use the phone on their networks. but the only way to tell 100% is ro buy it and try it(but i dont recommend this way).
Well, the seller (of the phone I'm looking at) claims it's a clean IMEI, literally in the title, but that doesn't alleviate the problem of finding out if it's been fully paid off, right?

---------- Post added at 07:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:02 PM ----------
btw..
General Requirements for All Unlock Requests
The device must be designed for use on, and locked to, the AT&T wireless network. (For help see Device Unlock Support )
It must not be reported lost or stolen.
It’s not associated with fraudulent activity.
All the device’s service commitments and installment plans are completed, and all early termination fees are paid in full.
The device is not currently active on a different AT&T customer’s account.
If you performed an early upgrade, you must wait the 14-day buyer’s remorse period before you can request to unlock your previous device.

I recommend you avoid buying from Expansys, check around at least first.

That I don't know. I got a Sprint model and it seems to work fine with att, though I've been stuck at home like everybody else so I haven't really tested the network. The Sprint model is on Android 9. I don't know what the situation is on att.
Sprint does load the phone with a bunch of bloat and spam ware, most of which you can disable. I imagine att does the same. I'd just buy what is available at lowest price.
