Development request to Samsung for 900H - Galaxy S 5 General

Hey all 900H users,
Today I wrote an email to Samsung development team regarding latest sources and version release. Whenever they reply I will let you all know.
The mail is below.
Priority : HIGH
Dear Samsung Dev Team,
Today I am writing as a Galaxy S5 SM-G900H users community. We have bought your flagship phone Galaxy S5 as to enjoy it to full extent. Its an amazing phone with great camera. But we feel lack of support for 900H model (Exynos variant). International variant G900F has been proved to be a good phone with LTE and some other features that our phone lacks.
Now you must be thinking that why we are saying that 900F is better than 900H as both are Galaxy S5 variants. This is only because you made us think like this. You only support Galaxy S5 900F variant (Snapdragon) than our 900H (Exynos variant). Now latest android version 5.0 Lollipop has arrived for 900F variant but not for our 900H.
Secondly why don't you upload latest kernel sources to your website as many latest updates have been arrived for our variant. The current latest build released is (build G900HXXU1ANK1). But on you opensource website (link mentioned below) the last uploaded sources are (for build G900HXXU1ANG3) which is more than 6 months older as of now. After that build 4-5 new versions have been released but no sources have been uploaded from your end. Android is an open source project. When you are using its sources to build your ROM and kernel then you are supposed to share the sources with us. But you are being smart by not sharing your sources with us. Beside Samsung all other manufacturers (Sony, HTC, LG, etc.) upload their latest sources on their websites so that they can be used for further development. I feel like being fool buying Samsung's flagship phone with lack of development and support.
Please furnish below details as soon as possible & give the us approximate date for releasing or this will be our last device from Samsung. Many users have already switched to Nexus, HTC and Sony sue to less development.
1. Latest kernel sources for 900H variant (Link : http://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=sub&sub=F&searchValue=900h)
2. Android Lollipop v5 for 900H
PS: This mail will be shared on google+ community, XDA forum and other android development communities. Your positive reply is awaited.
Regards,
S S Sidhu

Any reply..

I suggest every one to email them the above letter. Copy and paste. They should be aware that we don't buy phones every day! I just spent $480 on Galaxy S5 and I expect timely development and updates. Just yesterday Samsung released 5.0 lollipop update to Galaxy S4 Google Play edition. If the older device could receive it faster than our newer device aka Samsung's Current Flagship, then We should have it too.

hi
creating whatsapp group is all good, however our main concern is there is no development for G900h.
we all know that our model is supported in Asia and still we have no developers for making custom roms for us.
apart from xterolite and some on or two other roms we have no other options
please developers help in creating some new roms and as of now we have not received any lollipop update ....even Galaxy s4 gpe got the lollipop yesterday.....such a shame even earlier devices are getting.
we are not getting support from samsung or developers for custom roms
if not resolved we should stop buying samsung phones.
P.S. Thread Moderators can we have a separate thread for our device g900 h since we have to search every rom thread whether it support our model or not and increasing spam by posting requests for supporting our devices too.

Doesn't matter how nice and polite you are in the email, Samsung won't budge. People have done things like these (and even petitions/votes) ever since the S2 but absolutely nothing has changed.
The best way to show displeasure is to simply not buy another exynos device.

Developer Support: Who, Which and What?

Hello, now as the title suggests I am looking to create a list or a count of the amount of developers, whether it would be Source Code Developers (CM, Omni, Slim, PA, etc.) or Kitchen Developers (Modified Stock ROMs). That will be supporting the Note 4 and what version i.e. Snapdragon or Exynos.
Having this list as easy to read and accessible, might be what determines what model of the Note 4 people purchase.
So if you wouldn't mind can all the developers interested in the Note 4 answer the poll and/or post a comment in the thread about what you plan to do/support.
P.S. I also thought it would be a good idea to have a couple of option for non-developers to choose, what with the updated information on Exynos and Snapdragon.
Bump
I'll just post here to draw attention to my signature - if people want the Perseus kernel on Note 4, please consider donating. We're nearly halfway there!

I believe only small modifications would be necessary to make a kernel work for the different Exynos variants. I'm no expert on this though - confirmation from a dev or knowledgeable user would be good.

[UNOFFICIAL] Xposed Regarding Samsung ROMs on Lollipop

From rovo89's post
Regarding Samsung ROMs: No progress. No ETA. No promise that it will be supported, although I don't exclude it either. It's simply unclear what further differences between their and AOSP's ART variant come up.
There are two ways to help bring Xposed for Lollipop to Samsung ROMs.
1. If you like his work, feel free to donate.
2. Track down some developers to do the research on Samsung ART.
If Samsung users want Xposed, then we all need to help.

I donate Xposed for Samsung TW S6 edge. Because i love xposed, and still wait... Guys please donate Rovo for xposed TW...

Also donated for Xposed on the S6 edge.
Money will help but skilled Samsung ART devs is better option. Since Xposed is not full time job or so, donations dont make rovo89 coding more.
Even LG started messing ART code what is not good.
I believe in Rovo

Are you really saying that rovo89 will develop a version for us Samsung Lollipop users ONLY IF we donate some money??
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1
No. I am not saying that.
I am saying that we need to Support the Developers. Samsung users need to show support in numbers.
Do not donate him in order to get something done, thats like paying him to do something. Donate for what he has done and help him with his future work instead.

Exactly. Donate because you like his work. I liked Xposed on 4.4 and I contributed because of that. I hope someday to have Xposed on TW roms.
Samsung really has their own form of ART? How can that be?
no...
that does not make any sense, i think

For the longest time rovo89 didn't even accept donations. It wasn't until Google decided to make ART the default and sole Android runtime that he changed his mind. I imagine because porting Xposed to ART is such a massive undertaking and that he very likely has some development costs such as time and bricked devices associated with it, but that's just a personal guess.
I'm no developer so the best way that I can support his efforts is by donating to the cause. The majority of users feel the same way, hence the suggestion. I'm willing to bet that rovo would rather have some solid dev contributions than monetary ones.
Maybe it works on S4 I9505 with workaround?!
Hi there,
I already know that the Samsung Lollipop stock roms TW-based Roms aren't supported...
But on this page from Phonearena some PeterK. claims that it's possible to get it working with a workaround, and in the comments (see comment 4 & 6) the author claims also, that he made this on a S4 i9505 TW-Rom.
Did anyone try it and find it working also?
Would be very good news if it's true and finally I would update also
Thx for your help with this!

Yeah, but he replies to someone who says that it won't work with TW by saying it will work
so normally it should be logic, that he meant stockrom with TW... But right he didn't say it explicitly
And here's what's in the comments:
"4. RandomUsername posted on 16 Feb 2015, 10:57 +1
I read that it doesn't work with TouchWiz.
Reply
6. PeterK. posted on 17 Feb 2015, 01:16 +1
An S4 (GT-I9505) was being used for the purposes of this guide, so it will work."
Anyway... Could it be that Samsungs modified ART isn't integrated to all models n therefore it could work on some? Right now I'm to busy to check but after some time I'll give it a try... if there isn't an official solution till then

Holding one plus to account

I am starting this thread to keep discussion alive regarding one plus promises to us the Android enthusiast community - these are recent posts from the 6t twrp dev thread in response to @FuNkwizzard claim that one plus really cares about the development community - I have reached out to @FuNkwizzard to speak in pm although haven't heard anything back as yet.

I'm assuming by now that you actually work for op ?
Maybe you could pass on the message to the customer support team who informed me only a couple of days ago 'we do not recommend unlocking bootloader or rooting and as such cannot give you the stock IMG to restore your device to factory settings' - of course I managed to find the fastboot file that I needed courtesy of @mauronofrio but this attitude from the online so called 'customer support team' this runs very contrary to what you are informing us of here which I have no doubt at all that what you are telling us is true. But - if op really wants to win over the Android enthusiast community then someone really needs to make sure that customer services know this!

Well here's an idea, if op really is so committed (grateful - remember humble beginnings with so much support from the Android enthusiast community) - then give recognised developers their devices at the same time that they go into the hands of all the reviewers - they can surely ask them to sign non disclosure agreements in the same way that reviewers are asked to. Let's think about it, why are reviewers devices given to them before release - well it's simple, op is relying on the hype train to grow their brand - the Android enthusiast community is a tiny portion of their sales revenue, thus not that important really no matter what they say - come on Peter Lao and Carl Pei - show us with action that you really care about the Android enthusiast community with action including ensuring that your support team is ready to help us modders just as much as helping the average Joe - how about actually releasing the source code for the BLOB's to give us working HAL's so that we can actually use the hardware we have paid for the way that we want to. I attended the one plus 'open ears' event in London last year and spent the day on a working group with Carl, he seems like a genuinely nice guy, and super committed to his company and it seemed to us the users - my challenge to you Carl and Peter - show us that you are really 'listening' and stay true to where you began with the support you relied on in the early days from the Android enthusiast community by really supporting us rather than just passing lip service.
Now let's see how 'open' op is really and see if this post gets censured (I've kept a copy just in case it does get scrubbed and of course will start a brand new thread with it if need be!)

I gave them my email address, full name, both IMEI numbers - so with all that info one would hope that there is some records somewhere.
Wait, yes, they sent me an email as well and booked in a remote session so that am engineer could flash my device - which was pretty infuriating really as clearly I am more than capable of doing that myself, if they just gave me the IMG file that they were surely going to flash my device with lol.
Shall we take this chat to telegram in private?

I do hope that op does provide you with a development device as clearly you are a committed dev working to support op community. I for one am very grateful for your work @mauronofrio

This was the situation with Lenovo p2. But dev's eventually got in and now they have a great development curve.... the p2 users donated money for one dev to buy p2 for development and well. That was initiated by a user. And development kickstarted soon after.

But first, we need to organize users who would be able and willing to donate. Once enough people are there and we can figure out on total if the amount offered is sufficient enough, we can start contacting dev's. After we have a dev ready to help, then start pooling in money and purchase the set and send ot to the dev.

just a heads up. according to XDA rules. donation threads have to be created by the developer itself who is interested in the device development. he has to green lit such a thread with an XDA admin. if it gets created by forum users it gets closed pretty soon as it is against the rules.
so first step would be finding an recognized developer willing to spend his free time on the device.

two options comes to mind.
A: look into devs that were or still are maintaining Samsung (Snapdragon based) phones and might be interested in the A70.
B: look into devs that maintain a device that has the same SoC (or SoC family) as those devs will have less than half as much work (it does depend on how far the kernel deviated from code aurora code) to maintain a second device if they have already established the knowledge on the primary device.
E.T.A. Unknown..

The Operative Phrase Here Is: "Still Maintaining Samsung (Snapdragon Based) Phones".
In the U.S... Samsung Snapdragon devices have their bootloaders locked down.. ( Per Carrier's Request ) so you have Zero ROM Development..
IMO.. you have to love this device for what it brings to the table stock ( Widvine L1, Themes, AR Emoji, UI, Gaming etc ) just in case nothing Custom sprouts..

Custom Rom availability?

When we can expect Custom Roms for Asus Rog 3?
Its been a month now, Asus send ROG 3 to some developers for testing device with custom roms but sadly no news till date. Despite of Unofficial TWRP & Few Great Kernels, development for this beauty is very slow!
Hopefully soon:fingers-crossed: (good things come to those who wait)
I would love to try a stock-based ROM with a plethora of enhanced features and options.
This is a good but not a popular phone. So I guess it'll take some time before we get a custom ROM. It'll come but if the community isn't big they will not be huge support on those ROMs. I know that Asus offered the phone to some devs as Lineage OS and Dirty Unicorns, but nothing is sure they will develop anything for this phone.
Here the list of developers who got the phone

I mean, they probably saw in the mall, but:
~Mostly marketed at the same price as flagships = Expensive
~Too focused on gaming (both looks & specs), this will feel heavy to use for someone who just want a decent smartphone
Basically, these phones have its own community.

Yes, it is a niche market. So not popular as this is only for a limited amount of users interested by this kind of phone. I just look around me and nobody know this phone.
I have no doubt it is not a popular phone like a flagship from Samsung, Huawei or OnePlus. I am used to have non-popular phones as I choice my phone for it's spec and not for the quantity of bloatware offering useless options to me.

Omnirom is already in testing. There will be many custom roms in the near future.

Slow? Do it yourself then. Your one of the reasons devs left this place. Ungrateful.

It is all I hope, but I just looked at the rog phone 2 forum yesterday and there were not that many, the support wasn't really here.
I am not in hurry to get custom ROM, as I use air triggers daily. But if one day there is a ROM developed especially for this phone with specific options dedicated to the rog phone 3.

Is there any board or group for any information about Omni? I saw the Rom for Rog 2 but there is no information or anything about that.
