Hello Community!
Is it only me, or is everyone annoyed that our Nexus 7 Tables (2012/2013) Mobile version still have not received the upgrade?
Can't find any info on the web regarding this...
Anyone know why Google takes so much time?
I think the devs are very busy because they need to fix a lot of buggs on the not 3G 4G versions see Android 5.0.1 and Googles priority is also on the new devices
Gesendet von meinem GT-I9195 mit Tapatalk
Maybe, but over a month?
But the only thing different is the 3g radio. How difficult can it be to make a lollipo driver for it? Everything else is common for both 3g and wifi versions.
My neighbour has an LG G3 who just got the Lollipop update today, on 4g. I'm still waiting for the 2012 3g Nexus 7 update I won't buy another nexus device. What's the value in it?
The problem isn't with the mobiles but with tablets. I have a nexus 4 and just got the 5.0.1 update, still with the 4.4.4 on the nexus 7 2012 3G. Maybe Santa will bring a gift...

Would the tablet work, if we flashed an image from the WiFi version?
Obviously the radio and 3g won't work - But I don't use those anyway.
Would the tablet function?
I think we'll never see any 5.0.x release on our N7, since 5.1 seems to be scheduled for February... Google seems so busy fixing bugs in Lollipop that I think cellular enabled nexus tablets won't receive any major updates soon.
On the one hand, it's annoying not to receive updates quickly, but in my opinion it is better to wait a little more and enjoy a stable operating system: for people with the WiFi only version, 5.0 was terrible, but with the latest update the situation improved a lot. I'm looking forward to knowing more about 5.1...
Anyway, I'm happy that Google is really supporting our old N7, and spending time in dedicated bug fixing.

Yes, I consider the 2012 Nexus 7 "old" too. It came out just 6 months after the Galaxy Nexus, and that phone hasn't had official support in over a year (it never officially got Kit Kat). So I agree, I'm thankful that Google is still supporting the original Nexus 7. I'd like it even better if the 3g version was updated too, but I have the WiFi version, so lack of new factory images for the 3g version doesn't affect me directly.

no company around this planet upgrade their old 2012 devices to Android 5.
only Google do that.
which company you would choose if Google dont produce an update?
The most 2013 models dont get an update.
and sry, i think Google were happy if people change the company who buy over 2 Sears ago a cheap device and cry every new Version for update.

Whereas Apple on the other hand do and have updated their old iPhone 4s, iPad 2 (Both 2011 devices) + their iPad mini (2012 device) with the very latest IOS8+
The way I see it is this; if the hardware can support it why not update your customers software and keep them loyal. If its a case of it being a huge financial burden to optimise their software to make it work on inadequate hardware then fair enough.
If apple are prepared to update older hardware, then so should Google and you should encourage it rather than shoot down anyone that suggests otherwise and criticise them for buying hardware which they might only be able to afford; or are you suggesting we just lavish the rich with refinements?

You pay a lot for apple devices, and that price contain future upgrades. Software develop costs a lot. If you buy top devices you get updates for almost 2 years, and that is not bad. If you buy a 50 bucks smatphone probably you never get an upgrade... So only google upgrades cheap devices, so why blame them? Also the sources are open so every developer can made new roms.

It costs a lot of money and a lot of time to update a device. Google geht no money if they produce an update.
And Apple is a different story. a device from Apple costs three times more than a nexus 7.the Hardware is near identical. nexus7 has a nvidia tegra chip from 2011 and the other nexus use qualcom. so they need more Teams to develop.
Google is a company that need money to work, develop and produce products. i was wondered that they bring out Android 5 for the first nexus7. So if the tilapia get an update....wonderfull, if not ....also OK.
I recall reading a lot of articles and I believe even a quote from a Google employee saying the 3G/LTE models would be getting 5.0 in early December but here we are in January with not a peep from anybody about when it's coming.
Is there any news about Android 5 on 3G version??? It's been about two months now. Anyone?
Android 5.0.2 factory images for Nexus 7 Mobile (2013 and 2012)
Android 5.0.2 factory images for Nexus 7 Mobile (2013 and 2012).
If people have working 2012 models on kitkat (without much lag), might want to wait and find out how other people's reaction to it.
I just installed it. For some reasons, a signature mismatch prevented me from flashing the bootloader, but after a couple of attempts I just skipped that, since my 3G N7 already had the version included with Lollipop (4.23).
I'll let you know my first impressions soon
As it seems, it's just a matter of time for the OTA to roll out...

If there's any update... It could be a number of things. Namely,.. LTE, 1080p screen or 32GB storage. I really can't see there being much change (if any?!) as its done so well. To well in fact as there isn't any stock lol.

to stay relevant to the coming generation of phones, itll need at least 32gb, 1080p, and maybe a better camera? i dont think a ram or processor upgrade is a big deal at this point
anyway, itd be nice if they come out with something like that.. really sucks for the folks who already got thier n4
Yes I would be pissed royally and I have an upgrade I can use but man is be angry

It is way more likely that they are producing the successor of the Nexus 7 (released in June 2012), which would fit in the release cycle of the previous nexus phones (January 2010, December 2010, November 2011, November 2012).
Seriously... Why do you guys put stock in this stuff? Blog news sites suck. Its sensational so they are posting it. The entire article is full of conjecture and other sites are just reposting the original article. After 2 months they are stopping production to build the next nexus? Yeah friggen right. There is no way that is happening and no one has presented any sort of proof. They haven't even fulfilled all of the back orders yet. Don't take the bait.

Google and LG knew what chip was in the device they designed. This is not some magical surprise. They can easily disable it in a future update. This whole article is full of conjecture that makes little sense. LG isn't changing the screen, processor, RAM, etc at this point.

Well, the included radio image allows LTE band 4 to be enabled. It's not certified for LTE by the FCC. Search for ZNF/E960 on the FCC site if you want to see the details of the FCC certifications; I can't include a link because I don't have enough posts. (If I had to guess, I'd say that they forgot a #define in the radio image to disable LTE altogether. These things happen.)
That's enough for them to be legally obligated to pull the device in question off the market. I don't know if that's what's actually happened, of course.
I wouldn't believe this rumor if I were you the writer has no source and is just spreading rumors based on what a lg person said about their continuous partnership with Google.
I think they might do small updates to it like fix some of the things that people sent there nexus 4's back for
I call bs. Seriously, every nexus has been given a year, 2 months would just be ridiculous. And this hardware is still good for another year easily, benchmarks smenchmarks, they don't mean diddly poo in the real world. Hell the Galaxy Nexus is still a damn nice phone with its dated omap 4460 SoC!
Also Google probably had the nexus 4 in the works for at least 6 months, probably even longer so I have a hard time believing they'll have another one so soon. If they announce new phones, it's going to most likely be carrier LTE versions.
But I just don't see how anything could realistically top this phone. There is no lag whatsoever, everything is instant, what could better hardware offer that you would even notice?

Apparently, there have been some rumors floating around the last few weeks about a new version of the Nexus 4 being released to address storage space issue.
...But besides that, it seems that Google is also sneaking in CDMA support, meaning those of us stuck on Verizon might finally have a chance at this.
Has anyone else heard the rumors? What do you think? Supposedly, there's slated to be a presentation at Google I/O about the new Nexus 4, focusing on its support for Key Lime Pie. So, we'll find out definitively one way or another in a couple weeks. However, until then, speculation might as well run rampant.

Google IO starts in 26 days... Rumors = Bull****
But I have to admit I can't wait for Key Lime Pie...
It wouldn't make any sense to release a new Nexus phone and a new version of the old model...
Storage space issue? What? There is Google Drive (or SkyDrive, Dropbox etc.) And what do you expect for the low price of the Nexus 4... (of course the hardware is great)
Anyway I hope that the new Nexus phone won’t be a 5inch eek plastic crap like the Samsung S4, the LG Nexus is perfect hope they stay on this design.
Nexus 5 with CDMA might be more reasonable...
16GB can't be short for a bunch of apps...

I actually did not read the last few sentences and its all just rumors anyways. It doesn't make sense as they would have to add not only a CDMA chip but also LTE as Verizon would never let it on its network without it. Just adding CDMA alone could drive the price up at least another $50-60 from what it is now let alone what adding LTE would cost. You would be looking at a $500 phone, more likely $600 as Verizon wouldn't let Google sell it through the play store. And that would also mean Google would have to re-submit the phone to the FCC for approval for LTE. Just not going to happen as the Nexus 5 is just around the corner and will be announced in about a month anyways.

Why do think the Nexus 5 will be announced in about a month? They have never announced new Nexus devices until sometime in Q4 of the calendar year, traditionally in the November to December timeframe.
I've been seeing some of these rumors and I really hope it's true. I have the S3 on sprint now but I can't wait to get a stock android phone. LTE and sprint support and I'm in IMO the one and s4 are just more of the same and I really don't like OEM ui overlays. Also I don't see Google announcing a new nexus 5 next month so this seems somewhat plausible...kind of how the ns4g came to the party a little later

There are rumors that Google will introduce the Nexus 5 or an LTE version of the Nexus 4 at Google I/O in May. They typically show something off at that event, last year it was the Nexus 7. Also I don't really see a CDMA version of the Nexus 4, just an LTE/GSM version as Verizon is very anal about anything on its network and usually tests the crap out of it for months before they will release it. Look at the GNex disaster for a hint of how Nexus devices get introduced and supported on Verizon. And yes typically Q4 is when Nexus phones are announced and released but specs usually start leaking out months in advance. And if the Nexus 4 LTE rumors were true someone would have shown off Googles application to the FCC to license it by now for sure. Usually some android website shows off with a "look what showed up at the FCC" post. So it's just speculation on my part that at I/O Google will show off an LTE Nexus 5.
Given that a lot of manufacturers are moving to 6-month update cycles instead of annual update cycles, it may not be surprising if google does the same with its nexus line up, with 6 month incremental update cycles and annual major revision cycles.
Will it have better battery life? That is what I care about the most!

Android Police or Droidlife, I forget which, had an article about this rumor which was more informative than the link provided. They said Google usually introduces non-phone hardware at I/O so like you say a re-fresh of the Nexus 7 or other tablet device is what they will show off.
I thought Google was going big on Google TV this I/O? 2nd gen nexus 7 is needed and I'm guessing a nexus Google TV device.

There is already a CDMA Optimus G, so it wouldn't be too much work for Google.
I was looking at the NV Item in the Qualcomm modem on my N4, and it had quite a few references to Verizon. Which seems a bit weird other than perhaps it being a legacy of the Optimus G CDMA version when the N4 was being developed.
As for CDMA, I'll give my usual rant that it's a dead technology even according to its standards body (3GPP2). Plus the whole eHRPD thing is just a complete mess, it tries to emulate core GSM network components for circuit switched fallback
All the CDMA providers should be racing to deploy LTE everywhere so they can switch people permanently to LTE and get rid of circuit switched fallback to CDMA.

I think that you should make your own decisions. It sounds like your mind is already pretty made up-- I don't think people here are going to be too interested in rationalizing your behavior.
Bottom line: if the new Nexus 7 had never come out or you'd never heard of it, would you be looking to upgrade your Nexus 7 right now? If yes, then the second-generation Nexus 7 is probably the best device on the market, and it's worth the upgrade. If no, then it's not worth it (regardless of your thoughts on the third generation, if there is one).

How are we supposed to know how something is supposed to be a year from now? Only you can make that choice.
I tend to do change things ever 24 months. Maybe that's because it's the main way phone contracts work. Normally after 1 year their is only a slight jump in tech but after 2 it's 2 minor jumps which equals a major.
e.g. Samsung Galaxy S3 to S4 a minor jump but from S2 to S4 major jump.
Every so often you get major jumps in tech after 1 year, in my opinion you, like yours the nexus 7 to the nexus 7 2, isn't a major jump.

I think that when the New N4 (or N5) comes out I think we'll have a good idea of what the 2014 N7 will be like. To ME it looks like Google is trying to streamline their HW to keep from having too many branches.

I don't know. I really can't see LG making the next N7. Really Other than Samsung who else could make the next N7? Acer? Lenovo? Dell? HP?
Those don't look like realistic choices. I mean LG MAY want to get back into the Tablet market and making the new N7 would be a good way to do that but I don't see it happening. Unless one of the above mentioned manufacturers or HTC (really unlikely), Huawei, Motorola (possible but not likley), Oppo (Very Doubtful) or Sony (Highly Doubtful). One possibility is Nvidia themselves but that all depends on, I guess on some part, how well Project Shield does.
I think we're likely to see N7 (2014) being Asus again just cause really there's no other game in town so to speak.

Hey guys from everything that I've seen on the new SECOND GEN. NEXUS 7 is not that impressive to me but everyone has a different opinion on things but there is just not enough upgrades or that many changes to the new one I think that the GEN. 3 will be a lot better and different in every aspect what do you think?

That would actually be cool. Apple hardware is top notch.
But that's never going to happen.
You should really understand, technology evolves, new devices are practically created everyday, by the time you wait for the 3rd Gen you will have the same thoughts all over again.
If really want to buy it then do so, if not don't or buy an alternative.
Yes, no, yes, no euhmz yes, no, maybe, damn no, hell yes, sure, why not, no, yes, absolutly, no thank, yes, no
hope i was helpfull
Here's an interesting article I just came across on the Verge about a few sources saying the Google will retire the Nexus Line and reboot it with Android Silver handsets that will be sold in stores and highly marketed, but with presumably higher specs.
http://www.theverge.com/2014/4/29/5664702/google-nexus-to-be-replaced-by-android-silver
International Buinsess Article

"The rumoured "Android Silver" line will replace the Nexus program. The line included more high-end and more expensive devices. It was claimed that Google wants to focus on giving consumers devices that are bumped in the hardware side while enjoying pure Android experience." (International Business)
What do you think? I would be willing to go for a all around premium "Nexus" phone as long as the cost wasn't too much and it worked on all major carriers.

as every year there is another rumor that there wont be another nexus, yet every year comes a nexus.

I'm hoping that this is not true, if it is, we should start an online petition to keep the Nexus brand going.. I hate bloatware, carrier logos and all of the other nonsense that comes on phones from the carriers. My last few phones have been Nexus devices, and everytime i buy a carrier branded phone, i just end up selling it or returning it. Once you go nexus you cant go back..
Just my .02 cents.
I just posted two similar links here:

I think that is only one more rumor surrounding Nexus brand
Google can call the program whatever they want to call it. As long as they offer a device with vanilla Android, without carrier and manufacturer bloatware, with at least mid-range specs at a reasonable price I'm happy.
Rumors only...lock it before it spreads! eeek
Guys we have the last nexus Google can't keep making this phone it hurts its partners and now with the one plus one there is no point. I prefer a premium device instead of the cuts made to nexus like battery and camera

Some of you guys are still in the negation phase
i mean, i love the nexus line too, but there are many indications that Android Silver is going to become a reality soon, some of the leakers of this news are credible sources and probably with direct connections in Google itself (well at least more credible than random people on a forum stating the opposite with no clues whatsoever) . You do the maths.

I hope you are joking. The OnePlus is not even on Google's radar. I would assume the Android Silver program is true based on who is reporting it. At the end of the day, Google isn't going to stop offering an affordable Android phone with vanilla Android. It seems the silver program is just extending the GPE program to carriers. Surely, they aren't killing off the Play Store so there are no worries. Whether or not they call their phones "Nexus" phones doesn't matter to me because one will still be available from the Play Store.
Cautiously optimistic about this. Could be interesting.
I hope they keep the competitive pricing...
I feel the android manufacturers and carriers are never going to want a reasonably priced google phone that is heavily marketed next to their pricy flagships. Something about it doesn't add up. If they are GPe priced i'm sure the carriers and manufacturers wouldn't mind but then marketing that is much harder and they wouldn't sell many. I just can't picture them being welcome in retail next to the other phones.

idk, Android Silver concept first came in light few months back, and that time it was in the rumor stage, but now verge is reporting it and verge isn't one to bull**** users. Verge also has close contacts with Google, and it's sources can be trusted. Though I hope this DOESN'T happen. Also, next nexus will come this year, the android silver concept is staged for 2015.

Verge after the Galaxy Nexus era is as much bullsh*t as the rest. Their review for the Nexus 5 is a joke for an example.

IBtimes should be banned from posting anything about technology until they can do some fact checking. It's nothing but a clickbait site with a bunch of repeated in(or mis)formation.
This Android Silver idea sounds like it really could be a benefit if Google truly does put serious effort into it. I just think android has gotten to a point now that serious changes like this need to be considered in order to help potentially solve the issues many developers have (by having just a few "focus" devices every year". I own an iPad as well as N5 and I must say that the quality of most apps for the iPad are consistently phenomenal; I unfortunately can't say that in my experience with android (though the situation has majorly improved I'd say in the past year or so)

It's not often you see a non-geek for example carrying a Nexus 5. Those people would rather go for huge flagships that show up on TV. Google wants a piece of the pie now and so they're probably going the same route as Samsung while keeping Android as vanilla as possible. Besides if the Project Hera theme is to be true, the home button now says Google. Google is slowly but surely inserting their brand name into everything to directly compete with Apple and Samsung devices and services.
The Nexus 5 advocate (Team Inferno)
Still think that this whole android silver thing is going to be similar to Google Play Edtion ( GPE ) phones.
There will be Xperia Z3 silver edition, HTC one M9 silver edition , Samsung Galaxy S6 Silver edition. All running vanilla android.
Just my 2 cents.
To me the issue is what you can and can't do in these supposed silver editions. Will they all have the freedom to flash this that and the other thing, downgrade boot loaders at will....etc etc.
The current developer edition phones of other makers still usually don't come with the freedom of a nexus. Not totally.
Again, my example is the moto x. All moto x's, including the developer edition, can't downgrade their os after flashing 4.4.2. The boot loader won't allow it. And those that find a way to downgrade, and make one false move....brick their phones. So that phone is not even close to the flexibility of a nexus.
That's my worry.
I think that Google won't do this

I have been holding off buying a new head unit since I wasn't happy worth the Chinese stuff and the kenwood 990 series was a bomb. They announced this unit DNX893S and I love garmin integration. But the hardware I read was only dual core... [emoji34]

I can't find any info concerning which operative system Kenwood has been using in this model.
Any app-manager or only apps approved by Kenwood?
It's an Android Auto + Apple Car Play head unit, so everything applies to Android Auto should be compatible.
Its hardware is enough for Android Auto.
See:

They only mention in the video

Actually the connectivity specifications show the Android Auto and Car Play presence.
www.kenwood.com/usa/car/excelon/dnx893s
From the video it looks like it's pretty quick and it is supposed to support both Android and Apple carplay dual phone Bluetooth looks really cool and no one can beat Kenwood screens and amplifier. My big concern is support they really never released any significant firmware updates for their DNN series the built-in apps basically don't work anymore and although we achieved root status it was a very buggy at best. I may wait a few months after it comes out and see what the initial reviews are it looks like it's running Linux or at least he mentioned it in the commentary

I was looking at this as well, still no release date.
What about 2016 pioneer models nex 8200?
I've been waiting for this one to drop for two months! They had to delay to get Apple approval because apple put out a new os version just before. This is the first unit to upgrade to dual core and also first Linux based. Pioneer still single core windows based for 2016. Should be soon.
I love the DNN series when they first came out being android-based I was hoping we could you start some sort of cooking on the ROMs but because of all the hardware blocks we encountered it was just too hard and not practical also that such a newer product was based on such an old outdated Android version slow processor couldnt get any interest. If it wasn't for the Garmin map integration I probably would have left Kenwood a long time ago
Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk
a quick google shows this at like $1,300, what makes it so special that it costs that much? better screen? better audio?
That's in the range of their previous flagship products. The Garmin map integration, lcd (sunlight readable) and the audio processors make it special.

They're saying mid-June now
http://www.ceoutlook.com/2016/05/24/kenwood-wont-ship-until-mid-june/
It seems Apple's holding up all the certification for carplay. The Google specs are just as strict yet they've been able to bang out the certifications.

I have had the ddx9903s pre-ordered since March on crutchfield. They messaged me today letting me know that it is still needing approval, but they gave me a free backup camera for being so patient. Does anyone have any info about why apple is holding it up?
when you pre-order do they take your money? or just place a hold?
They just hold the place. So it was very nice of them to offer the back up camera. I believe it is only being done for people who have been in it for the long haul.
Looks like June 28th is the release date
Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk
I was told Apple said they need two weeks to confirm 6 features and they started last week. So if that's true I'm guessing they will start shipping the week of 7/4.
Where did the information come from?
June 28th was from Crutchfield
