Hey, I recently bought my HTC One and have been reading up on how to root etc. I'm looking for advice on how best to proceed. Currently my HTC one is running 4.1.2 with HBOOT 1.44.
Things seemed to have changed a bit since I last had a HTC (wildfire), now theres CID's, MID's, supercid and no goldcards. Things also seem a bit complicated compared to my SE Arc S, where you had one customization number and sony's software pulled the respective software.
At the moment, I want to be able to use root only apps (eg Titanium Backup) and update to the stock version of 4.2
Reading around, I've seen that rooting by unlocking the bootloader will block the OTA update to 4.2. Also, upgrading to 4.2 will update the HBOOT meaning that I won't be able to s-off. Even though, I currently don't need this, I don't want to update to the new HBOOT just in case.
My question is what would be the best way to get a stock rooted version of 4.2 without losing the ability to s-off?
Just looking for a bit of guidence, Thanks!
mike
I rooted to get 4.2 update bunch of custom roms already have them and there great roms I'm on viperone now but also have had revolution, trickdroid, cleanrom, ext all are stable don't need s off to flash but give it time and there will be an s off for 4.2.2

My phone is on HBOOT 1.44, it can be s-off at the moment.
My question was how to get stock 4.2 with root access without upgrading to HBOOT 1.54?
S-off,
Unlock boot loader,
Change cid to HTC__001,
Lock boot loader,
Run RUU for European developers edition,
Update by OTA,
Unlock bootloader,
Flash custom recovery,
Root device.
You will be on stock 4.2.2, and rooted. You also won't have to worry about the hboot because once you have s off you don't lose it.

Thanks for the reply
My cid is already HTC__001 (I bought it and it came with WWE ). Does that mean I can skip steps 2,3,4 and 5 in your list?
What is European developers edition?
Yes I suppose you can. WWE is world wide English. Which is what I believe comes on the developers editions. So you have HTC__001 already and have not received the ota? Like I said, if you want s off, get it before you upgrade. But if you don't need it you can upgrade without it and still root.

What EU developer edition? I assume he has the UK version so his stock rom would be the "HTC_Europe" version. Need his CID and MID numbers to confirm. I agree that he should run the S-off process first thing if he wants it.
My CID is HTC__001, I don't know what the MID is. I don't think it's the developer edition, I bought it from a retailer not HTC directly and it's 32GB. My software version is .401 and the OTA to 4.2.2 is available to me, I haven't updated yet because I don't want to be stuck on HBOOT 1.54.
Then you can s-off, update, you will retain s-off on the new hboot, unlock boot loader, flash a custom recovery and root.

Thanks, if I unlock my bootloader with revone after s-off, is that exactly the same as doing it through htcdev?

Yes it is, with the added bonus of HTC not knowing you've done it!

I guess another advantage is that your device doesn't get wiped on unlocking.
Hi everyone, I need help unlocking the bootloader or someway to s-off the phone since verizon blocked the unlocking bootloader for m7 and m8. I tried running rumrunner 1.10.605.10 which is the software number I have on the htc one. I'm coming from the htc one mini but this verizon htc one m7 is so complicated. Thank you all and have a great day.

For now you'll have to wait on Sunshine 3.0 for it to work on hboot 1.60.
Hello,
I have a HTC One M8 running 4.4.4.
So i want to update to lolipop but i want root. My question is should i unlock the bootloader and get S-OFF and root then do the OTA update? Will i keep the root? Or can i just OTA then unlock s-off and root.
Also do i even need S-OFF? All i want to do is install custom roms and edit root files

I would S-off now before upgrading. Once you're S-off you can update. If you update first you won't be able to S-off (at least for the time being).

I have purchased a m8 Sprint HK lollipop and would like to downgrade to 4.4.4, should I flash a stock ruu 4.4.4 so i can run sunshine. This phone is s-on no root no nothing fully stock boot loader locked.

Another user posted that they were able to use sunshine with a lower software, but you can't run an RUU to do it. You will still have to unlock the bootloader, and install a custom recovery. BACKUP your working ROM. (NANDROID). You can then flash a stock 4.4.4 ROM and see if you can run Sunshine.
That being said, I can't see why that theory hasn't been tested. The Sunshine devs are working on an update and it will work with Lollipop. It should be here soon if you want to wait it out.
Also, s-off is not required to install custom roms or kernels or run official RUU for the version you are on or above but is to run any Update Utility to downgrade..
Someone else can chime in and post whether or not they have had success with running a stock 4.4.4 and if they had success with Sunshine. In the meantime, it would not hurt to try it out and post back.
(I do not remember if a locked bootloader is required for Sunshine, if it is you might want to wait for the update) I would suggest against flashing a stock 4.4.4 and locking the bootloader.
You cannot downgrade via RUU while S-on. You can flash a ROM with an older software version but you won't be able to downgrade firmware. You'll need to wait for version 3.0 of Sunshine to be released before you S-off.

I'm in the same situation than THESTONEDONE2014, but I have the HTC One M8 (Sprint) Non HK running 5.01 lollipop. I've rooted my phone. I need to unlock the SIM and the bands to be able to used in my carrier outside of US. All the tutorials are based on 4.4.4 and not in 5.01. So I would like to come back to 4.4.4.
Do you know if there is any way to do it with a S-ON device?. Sunshine and firewater didn't work for me.

Thank you!
You can flash a KK ROM if you'd like, but you'll still have Lollipop firmware.
Have you looked at this SIM unlock tutorial? It's for 5.0.1.
