Question before i root.. - Sprint HTC One (M8)

Hello,
I have a HTC One M8 running 4.4.4.
So i want to update to lolipop but i want root. My question is should i unlock the bootloader and get S-OFF and root then do the OTA update? Will i keep the root? Or can i just OTA then unlock s-off and root.
Also do i even need S-OFF? All i want to do is install custom roms and edit root files

I would S-off now before upgrading. Once you're S-off you can update. If you update first you won't be able to S-off (at least for the time being).

If you end up installing Nik's ROM , then you will not get OTA updates. If you are looking to not void your warranty, then downgrading your hboot and using Revolutionary is the safer of your 2 options. If you use HTCDEV.com to unlock your bootloader, HTC will know that you have modded your phone and in fact you must acknowledge to them that you are modding your phone.
With Revolutionary S-OFF as long as your phone is operational and you can get into HBOOT, then you could return to stock for warranty purposes.

Thanks man and If I only want to install CWM then even I have to do S-OFF and downgrade my Hboot.
Just One more thing that If I downgrade my HBoot then I get the ICS OTA update or not?

No on the OTA because during the downgrade process you will be installing an older RUU/ROM and you will end up with a phone that has a custom HBOOT image and a custom Recovery image, so you won't be able to take the ICS OTA.

Hmm, So there is no way to unlock HBoot 2.0 without downgrade.
and even if I downgrade after getting ICS then again I have to downgrade and have to lost the stock ICS ROM right??
Man there is no way that I just get the CWM & Root access without downgrading my HBoot??

Yes, you can unlock your HBOOT using the procedure at HTCDEV.com and then you can install CWM and root the ROM, but it will void your warranty.

Once the update is out we will have full working custom roms (I think we already do, sense 3.5 or 3.6, not too sure??) so no need to stress about the ota
Or wait for update, root phone and make a nandroid backup. You will then have a copy of your ota update.

You will receive the OTA but it won't apply since since you are on TWRP. You will need stock recovery in order for the OTA to flash.

yes you can, but it will downgrade your software only. Firmware will not downgrade and you'll be unable to apply ota updates because of firmware/software mismatch
oh, thats bad news because i cant s-off my device, it disconnect. and i though that i downgrade it i will be able to s-off.

Unfortunately firmware downgrade require s-off. What is your issue and what s-off method are you using? And why do you need s-off for?
nevermind. thanks for interes, but i managed to s-off with rumrunner after many tries.

Possible to Unlock, Root, and S-off after official OTA?

I just got a replacement phone for my T-Mobile HTC One (had a mic issue). It says that the OTA update for Sense 6 is available. If I download and install it, will I be able to unlock, root, and s-off my phone to go back to ARHD afterwards?
Also, which method or guide is recommended to do so?
Thanks
I would probably unlock, root and s-off beforehand. If it updates your hboot, you may not be able to root it.

The right way to obtain S-off with Lollipop

Hi to everybody. I am planning to buy an used M7 with 1.55 Hboot.
So I was planning to Unlock, Root and then S-Off with Rumrunner.
But when I do this how can I update the phone to Lollipop stock to flash a custom rom like Viper (I've red that I can't flash it if I am not in Lollipop stock)?
Or have I to do every OTA Updates, upgrade to stock Lollipop, than do Unlock, Root and S-Off by Sunshine?
I really do not understand, it's very difficult to find this information, I've red lots of posts but I am still confused!
Thank's a lot!

You should definitively try to s-off for free on hboot 1.55, better not to update the phone until you have achieved s-off.
Once s-off, you'll be able to update to anything you want using a ruu for example. Newer roms doesn't really requires lollipop OS but the firmware update that comes with it (7.xx.xxx.x)
You'll then update the firmware to a 7.xx.xxx.x version using a firmware.zip file or a full ruu.zip. Ask help when ready to flash the firmware to be sure you flash the right one as you can brick your phone if not done properly.
Also note that you don't need s-off to update your phone and flash a rom but its a good idea to achieve it now before updating. Its always easier to recover a bricked phone when its s-off but also remember its also easier to brick a s-off phone if you flash the wrong file so do not hesitate to ask questions before flashing, especially when flashing firmware files.

Thank you very much I think the phone is an HTC One M7 801e "U" version, so as I understand well, after S-Off, I have to find the right RUU, flash it and than flash my favourite rom!
