Probably not because the CPU/GPU still has to handle all those pixels regardless of the resolution.

No it does change the actual resolution. Reason why it wasn't working for me is it never brought up the root grant window so I had to go in and manually give permission.
I think you all mean DPI.
I imagine the Nexus 6's default DPI is 480 like all other phones.
I don't own a Nexus 6 yet but i changed both my Note 3 and my OPO DPI's to 380, I think its a must on screens as big as these.

Hello all,
I just started to play around with my Galaxy Note. I rooted it, flashed the speedmob kernel and then the ParanoidAndroid V2.22 Custom Rom based on CM10.
Everything runs fine so fast, better than the stock-rom. I especially like the tablet mode.
I read about many build-prop tweaks to install incompatible market apps, but found nothing on my problem.
I want to install tablet-optimized apps, in this case the chameleon launcher, but the market won't let me do this.
Is there any possibility to tweak something, to make the market (and also the running apps) think that this is an 10 inch tablet (for example the Galaxy Tab 10.1)??
It should be an 10inch tablet to have the bigger grid size of the launcher (6x4 for 10" and 4x2 for 7")
I think the screen resolution is the same (1280x800), also the Ram and CPU should have enough performance. And I know the launcher is running on the note very well (but not installable via market and only with a grid of 4x2)
Is this possible and what do I have to change?
Thanks a lot for every hint!
may be possible by dpi setting in the build.prop file

But if I only change the dpi setting, I think, it will still be recognized as the GT-N7000.
Has anyone the content of the build.prop of an galaxy tab 10.1?
Then I can just try to copy this, right?
Which amount is the minimum dpi possible?
i guess u should go an check in that forum.. by the way... its just like Svoice.. to make it work u need to change the model name in build.prop to s3..
this mite not be the coreect method..do a lot of reading b4
There is a guide for making note like galaxy nexus but i hvnt tried it.
I have tried 213 dpi setting on stock tw and used chameleon launcher.it was awesome but as it was tablet mode, battery drainage was fast.

Just looking for the Nexus Guide, I already saw this. But this i an 7inch tablet.
Can anyone post the content of a Galaxy Tab 10.1 or the Note 10.1?
Then I follow the Nexus Guide but take the Galaxy Tab Model Names
What is the worst thing that can happen, if I change anything wrong?
the phone wont boot.. so make a nandroid backup b4
I think first of all you need buil.prop of note 10.1 then you can do something.
Why you want to do that???there is already tablet modes available man.

Sure, I am already using ParanoidAndroid in Tablet Mode... But in this Mode i still cannot purchase the Cameleon Launcher from market and also this launcher only runs with a small Grid Size of 4x2 which gives very little space for the widgets... I prefer them with smaller fonts but more space to move.
On 10inch tablets (also with 1280x800 resolution) there is a grid size of 6x4.
And I want to purchase the launcher with the bigger grid size...
Don't Care, I have good eyes

By changing the Screen Density in the build prop, I just got a plain Tablet view (Although there are very big unused borders at the top and bottom in potrait mode and leeft/right in landscape) and was also able to install the launcher regularly via the play store.
Everything fine so far.
But I just got the small grid (indeed this is just 3x2 not 4x2) and think there might be a way to change this.
On the developer Site
http://chameleonlauncher.com/widgets/makeawidget/design/
there are mentioned different layouts for 10" and 7"
Any ideas how to get the bigger grid?
And also how to remove the ugly borders with unused space?
I treid different DPI in the buil.prop, but only the basic 320 and the applied 160 had good results. Everything else messed up the entire screen and forceclosed the systemUI (tried 180, 190, 200, 240)
What is everyone running?
I run 340 and love it.. But it seems most of you run/prefer 400.
To edit your LCD density use any root explorer and find the build.prop file. Then edit ro.sf.LCD_density to whatever you desire... 300-480 is safe. I use android tuners built in build.prop editor and this is what editing it looks like:

Edit with nova launcher 400 DPI is better. Nova icons are so small and the grid spacing is smaller that 320-340 overkill now.

320 looks a lot like an overkill to me.

I tried going higher with 320 and small font but the icons are better proportioned to me at 300 / normal font. Anything lower than 280 enters phablet / tablet mode.

Damn you guys are going low. I couldn't even stand 340 so I'm at 440 now which is nice. might try 400 later on.

Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
340 with normal font for me not too bad just enough to get sms text fields below the "nexus 5" on the stock screen protector
Some others in another thread were discussing this as well. 445 seems to be the consensus for what it should look like stock. I've been running 445 for a few hours and I'm loving it. I'm considering trying 440 but 445 really does seem to be the perfect size for the screen.

I used andromodizer. All apps should be about the same. Its really just an edit in the build.prop file. I am going to try 445 and 368 to see how it looks. I am mostly interested in 7 icons in the home screen with the stock launcher. But can use apex or nova to get 7 with a higher DPI. The inky problem with 300 and normal font is the keyboard is rather small in portrait mode. In landscape it is fine though.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk 4
I used 320dpi until I found a bug in the launcher which pops up the keyboard every time you go from an app back to home by pressing the home button. Very annoying. Now I noticed this does not happen at 361dpi and up, so I'm at that now. Just do not want to switch launcher.
Does changing DPI put apps like tapatalk into tablet mode?

Man, you guys are going low. anything under 440 just seems to small to me. I just wish I could decrease the icon sizes a bit more while leaving everything else at 440. Hopefully Nova Launcher Beta will be out soon.

Have you noticed any issues using 480?
I thought it was an Android 5 issue. My N5, when updated to 5.0, didn't allow me to download it either.
I'll try changing DPI to see if it works.
I'm not 100% sure. My DPI is set to 493, and I can download it. But what I cannot download is the ESPN FC app.
My device is compatible for this app ..
This might not be a popular opinion, but if you can't download ScoreCenter, just download Yahoo Sports. Yahoo's app is a million times better than ESPN's. Trust me, I used to swear by ScoreCenter, but I heard a bunch of people on Twitter hyping up Yahoo's app. I finally gave it a try and was blown away. I don't even bother with ScoreCenter anymore.
Just use market helper to spoof your phone.

No. It was never "compatible" with any tablet I've owned. I'm sure the issue is screen size

It changes the global dpi
I understand that, but changing your global DPI can cause some apps to not work as intended so you'd need to change each apps DPI to fix that.
I'm also looking for this. I have used textdroider to change globally but now I just want to revert a few apps (phone, camera, etc) back to stock dpi.
Only way for this to work is by modding the system files and adding in the smali code then make an activity that allows for user to enter in a value they want then system app will read the saved user value and apply it.
This is probably the biggest thing that is keeping me on kitkat. Every time I install lollipop, I get frustrated about this, then I go back to kitkat
I feel the same as you guys- ability of change app's resolution is keeping me on 4.4. I can't image using some apps on default settings...

You can make your components in view smaller, so you can read more or tap on element faster without scrolling down. Usually, layout elements are (not necessary) too big, IMHO.

Xposed doesn't work on Lollipop
This is exactly why I'll stay on KK for some time, because it feels like I'd have to use buggy custom ROMs like CM to bring back functionality I already have now.
I'm on CM12, and I completely concur with this! Really, the ONLY app that I want to have the default DPI is the Play Store... Freaking apps won't auto-update.
I wasn't thinking and upgraded.. but don't feel like downgrading again..
I have a note 3, don't know what idiot in android or samsungland (I guess android is more to blame?) thought that only grandpas would be using notes?
It's ridiculous to buy an upper-medium-sized phone and have only room for a couple of bubbles of conversation in apps like facebook messenger or viber.
I'm also searching for solution for per app change of dpi (and language) in lollipop. Are there some news?
I've seen it done on the moto x pure edition 5.7 inch screen... and I honestly want to do it to save battery life... and because from 2k to 1080p there really isn't a difference in quality at least for me.. so does anyone know If this is possible?!?!

It's not going to save any battery life. The screen still has to push all its pixels, regardless of the resolution it is displaying. It may perform better in benchmarks and thats about it. If you want to save battery life, install a custom kernel and rom.

If you want to fix the lag, changing the screen resolution isn't the route you should take. You should root, then flash a custom kernel and rom. That will fix your lag and you won't have to stare at a blurry screen all day. If you want to fix the lag, one way or another you will unfortunately have to trade your warranty and Samsung pay. Just keep that in mind.
When using games for example, I use the Game Tuner app and this helps a lot for it reduces the resolution used on games.

If you know something about how we can change you can help but I dont beleive reducing the resolution not gonna help to performance. Maybe not in the battery side but it MUST be get extra performance on lower resolution. It helps on PC afaik.

Yes with root and resolution changer. You just don't seem the type that wants to deal with all that entails (on note 5 once you trip Knox, you'll have to deal with deep sleep issue on stock) , so don't. Just be happy with what you have.
