I've seen it done on the moto x pure edition 5.7 inch screen... and I honestly want to do it to save battery life... and because from 2k to 1080p there really isn't a difference in quality at least for me.. so does anyone know If this is possible?!?!
Thanks in advance! I've tried by doing the dpi apps but that doesn't do anything I wanna change the resolution as well.. thanks
BTW this is the thread for Moto X Pure 2015

It's not going to save any battery life. The screen still has to push all its pixels, regardless of the resolution it is displaying. It may perform better in benchmarks and thats about it. If you want to save battery life, install a custom kernel and rom.

Excuse me sir, I have not rooted because I don't have a reason to yet due to how beautiful battery is but if I'm able to fix lag by reducing resolution then I will... anything else? Why would I root 1st without asking if it's possible or not? Makes no sense... anyways you were saying?[emoji12]

If you want to fix the lag, changing the screen resolution isn't the route you should take. You should root, then flash a custom kernel and rom. That will fix your lag and you won't have to stare at a blurry screen all day. If you want to fix the lag, one way or another you will unfortunately have to trade your warranty and Samsung pay. Just keep that in mind.
When using games for example, I use the Game Tuner app and this helps a lot for it reduces the resolution used on games.
Has anyone found a way to go from 2k to 1080p on the overall ui, not just one games?
Thanks in advance!

I dont get the people. Why are you insistly saying dont do that you dknt need that staff. If you know something about how we can change you can help but I dont beleive reducing the resolution not gonna help to performance. Maybe not in the battery side but it MUST be get extra performance on lower resolution. It helps on PC afaik.

Yes with root and resolution changer. You just don't seem the type that wants to deal with all that entails (on note 5 once you trip Knox, you'll have to deal with deep sleep issue on stock) , so don't. Just be happy with what you have.

I am starting to regret my decision to upgrade to KitKat 4.4.2
My Z1 C6906 was almost flawless but now there are major issues:
BATTERY DRAIN- The phone is running down at a much faster rate then before the upgrade.
CAMERA FREEZE- The camera takes longer to startup and often locks up right after initializing. This is random but very annoying.
There are also various minor issues but I would appreciate any suggestions on how to fix the two major ones first.
We know that, we love that, we know that, we love that. ..lol..
No fix for that...
We all know Sony is using different parts in their phones (lcd, memory chip's and obviously many more parts) and "half" of devices are working great on 757 (like mine) and "half" of them are working...well not so great on same firmware...
Sony is preparing new update but I really doubt they could fix something like that...
I mean...if you have lousy screen or digitizer that's something software can't fix - it could make ut a bit better but it'll never fix it to work without problems...
I'm reading all that threads where guys like you posting all their problems and I could be very happy with my luck...
I have had three Xperia devices and all were extremely good...
I would never buy anything except Sony...
I'm buying phones only from t-mobile (if I want locked bootloader) or in Tele2 if I need unlocked.
Never online (clove, ebay...) and never used...

Nope, I'm on NUT ROM 757, deodexed and rooted.
I keep brightness up to 70% ( between 60-70% when I'm out) when I'm out (I have to, can't see the screen otherwise) and on 20-30% at night and I'm always getting between 25-30 hours of battery life plus 5.5-7h of screen time...

Probably not because the CPU/GPU still has to handle all those pixels regardless of the resolution.

No it does change the actual resolution. Reason why it wasn't working for me is it never brought up the root grant window so I had to go in and manually give permission.
I think you all mean DPI.
I imagine the Nexus 6's default DPI is 480 like all other phones.
I don't own a Nexus 6 yet but i changed both my Note 3 and my OPO DPI's to 380, I think its a must on screens as big as these.

I've been reading about the encryption and if it slows down the N6 I definitely want to disable it, how do I go about doing this for 6.0? Can I just go I to security and changing the settings? Do I have to flash a custom boot img? If so, where is it? Like I've said, I've been searching, and I've seen vids of the 5X getting school my the OG N5, and I don't want that happening to my N6. Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

I'm not completely convinced of that. While I only used it encrypted for a short time I did notice an improvement when I unencrypted the device. Could it have been blacebo? Maybe, but with the commit changes to aosp that were targeting encryption speeds It could also have a very minor impact.

When you say "now" do you mean that it has been fixed with Android 6.0 but it was there with 5.0/5.1?
Because I saw a lot of speed benchmarks on N6 (with LP) and they show encryption slows r/w a lot!
As I mentioned in another post, I ran Lollipop unencrypted for months, and when I upgraded to Marshmallow I found that I'd managed to encrypt my N6. I was pretty annoyed, since I expected to see slower performance and shorter battery life. Neither is true. It's every bit as fast and long-lasting as Lollipop was. No doubt the application performance monitors can see a fractional difference in the graphs, but in real life I see nothing at all.
I suggest that you strike this requirement off your to-do list - unless you have a simple and safe way to do it, in which case please post it here so I can do it too (yeah, it still niggles me a bit, just not enough... )

Benchmarks will not really tell you anything of note. The best way is just to judge for yourself. I recently picked up the n6 and heard the same. So I ran it encrypted for a few days (both stock and custom roms) Then unencrypted and ran the same setups and made up my own mind. You will have those that swear it makes a diff and those swearing just as loud that it really doesn't. So the best bet would be to run some real world usage. As it is a new device and will be pretty clean unencrypting it will not really be a big deal as long as you don't load it down to much. But even if you do it shouldn't take you more then an hour to unencrypt it and be on your way.

run your nexus 6 properly, and it will all look fine. if not, its your own choice. whats the point of lowering your resolution amyways? it doesnt save battery nor improves anything.

I lower the resolution to save battery and put less stress on the GPU, and I lower the DPI to make UI elements smaller because of the available screen real estate. I know if I go back to stock it would fix it, but I just want to know if anyone has a quick fix for it.

it DOES NOT save battery, actually might use a little more. all the pixels are still being used. that means, its still using the battery, the same amount, at least. i use my n6 at full resolution, and get 5-6 hours sot. no battery hacks btw.

Well yeah all the pixels are still being used, but (at least in theory) the GPU would not have to render the extra pixels, similar to how you get better performance in a game if you go down from 1080p to 720p. If it doesn't save battery then at least I'm getting better performance right?

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Moto G4 Plus before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
never took the battery down much past 50% but at the 50% mark I'll usually have about 3 hours of SOT. my moto g³ is pretty much the same. great battery life and SOT on the g⁴plus! especially if you're like me and mostly use IRC and open a few links and youtubes throughout your session. you're going to have PLENTY of SOT
Compared to the screen in the G3, it is sharper despite being bigger at 5.5 inches. This is due to the higher resolution of 1080p. The text looks crisp on this phone. But where it truly excels is in showing colours. The contrast and the colour depth on it is brilliant. The brightness is more than adequate, although it is also a very reflective screen and that poses some difficulty during outdoor use. The viewing angles are average -- the screen darkens when viewed at an angle -- and that too affects the outdoor visibility. But I have seen worse. And seen better. The G4 Plus is closer to the best.
