Hi all,
Got a few questions, searching here as well as Google w/o any answer.
If you know, please provide it. Greatly appreciate!
I bought 2 motoG 2014 Global version on Amazon a week ago. Just received them. My concern is how to know whether it's an US version or a Global version?
I thought I've seen something with US on the Build number but not 100% sure since I don't have them with me right now. Will update later.
I just want to verify that Amazon didn't ship out the wrong ones.
Also, according to news, motoG 2014 already receives Android 5.0 update but mine don't get the upate and 4.4.4 claimed to be the latest.
I do it over Wifi, not via AT&T mobile network since I don't have the SIM installed.
Question that I don't have 5.0 because of no SIM installed or ............ the US has but the Global not or vice versa?
Thanks all
Either one will work in most major US areas I just remember that in some areas there's an extra band that either ATT or Tmobile still needs where the towers aren't up to date, I don't have any issues with mine.

If you take it the backplate if it's x1063 thats global, x1064 is US.
Thanks, Aquarian & Riverdales
I got it, it's XT1063 so Amazon did ship the right ones.
Goto google play and check on installable phone. It'll show it if were either 1064 or 1063.

Hello Guys,
I used to be a milestone 2 user, coming from a milestone one here in the EU.
My milestone 2 gave out and I when it did I was forced to use another brand/phone.
However, I'm currently in the US and I was wondering whether there are any droid 4's I could buy over here that would work in Europe. Obviously this means the D4 would need to be free of sim lock and it would need to be able to take a sim card from europe.
Any advise? Workarounds? other places where one could get hold of a D4 able to work in the EU?
It goes without saying that I don't want to pick up a US prepped phone tied to a crazy expensive US operated dataplan in the EU.
TiA,
Cheers!

Most D4s come factory unlocked, you just have to make sure you carrier isn't on the bad list. Chances are if Verizon partners with your carrier at home, you may be out of luck. There is a UK thread going on here, take a look through the older threads. Keep in mind, LTE functionality isn't available on this phone outside of the USA.

Color me confused... I ordered the D5803 (not from Sony, from a reputable 3rd party retailer) to use on AT&T. The box it came in looks legit with zero T-Mobile markings or anything. However, the phone has a T-Mobile splash screen that shows briefly after the Sony splash screen, and it has T-Mobile "bloat" (My t-Mobile, Norton Security w/ Tmobile logo, Tmo Media Center, etc.). It works fine on AT&T, but I was really hoping for one with no branding for the direct connection to Sony for updates... and I'm concerned that won't happen here. Is it possible this is some T-mobile variant from another country that'll still get updates from Sony?
Of course after I post the question I think I've figured it out... it appears it's the German T-Mobile variant - which is still the D5803. The question, then, is how do updates work over there in Germany... will T-mobile have to approve it or will it come straight from Sony? If straight from sony, then there really isn't a problem with using this device, for me anyway.
You probably won't get many updates. I owned multiple branded devices (Hutchinson drei). The provider has to modify every single update before you get it - they don't do that very often, e.g. I got exactly 2 updates on my good old LG 4X HD.
You could try flashing the UK stock rom with Flashtool. Your phone should keep working properly, just without the T-mobile bloat. At least that's how I always dealt with branded Android devices.

Hey...I know you.. Hahaha
You could always manually change the firmware to another variant

I returned it and bought from another source.
I actually resolved the issue with the following post and picking a non-branded file.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/list-stock-firmwares-d5803-d5833-t2906706
I have the same problem for my z3c I bought 2 days ago from amazon.com. I'm still waiting for a response from the seller and wish it could be updated to L 5.0 without problems and without this ugly logo of t-mobile and bloatwares..
Hey guys -- I'm currently on the hunt for a Nexus 6. An uncle of mine is in Miami at the moment and he's buying me one.
Thing is, he's not too technology-literate. So I'm trying to guide him. Anyone knows where I could tell him to buy me a phone? It's also to be used in Europe (is that fine? I believe the N6 is unlocked so it should work, right?).
If anyone could help out, I'd appreciate it. I've called 2 T-Mobiles (the ones their online support suggested) and both were out of stock. I also have a MAJOR preference for the Cloud White one. I really need help locating a specific place that has the phone in stock right now.
Thanks in advance.
there are two versions of nexus 6, us version and all other countries version. in the united states, they only sell the us version. you can buy it at selected tmobile locations, or selected sprint locations. or you can order over the phone from tmobile, and have it sent to you via ups.
If you're looking for a Cloud White one at a physical brick and mortar store. Good luck with that, most stores offer only Midnight Blue. You can find Cloud White only online at Motorola or Google Play Store and you'll have to wait for your order to be shipped.
Inventory of N6 can't meet the demand as of right now. Pretty much buying a N6 means you're on a queue, unless you get it from a carrier but even then with a carrier, it can be a queue.

Dang, that's a shame. I mean, I could settle for a Midnight Blue one, I suppose. But from what you've said, that seems hard to get as well. Thing is, I'm not in the US, and calls to stores cost me a ton. What I really wanted was someone who heard or knows that there's availability in a certain store, so I can have my uncle go there and buy one.
I guess that's a bit too much to ask online, but I'm pretty desperate to get my hands on some Google.
You can check best buy stores, they have online inventory listings. Just have to put in the zip code of wherever your uncle is
Edit: these will of course be carrier branded phones (AT&T or Sprint) unlocked version has to be straight from Google or Motorola I believe

The AT&T model can be unlocked, and they have the midnight blue ones in stock. Is that an option for you?

As simms22 mentioned in an earlier post, there are two variants of the Nexus 6.
XT1103 is the model for the Americas and XT1100 is the global model for the rest of the world (including Europe).
As far as I understand, the main difference is that each model supports different network bands.
More info: http://www.motorola.com/us/consumers/nexus-6-header/Nexus-6/nexus-6-motorola-us.html#nexus-6-specs
To be on the safe side, I'd check that that the US variant of the N6 supports the GSM/WCDMA/LTE bands of your network provider before purchasing it.
I did see that Miami is one of the few markets that T-Mobile actually stocks the N6 in store, so maybe call a couple more. Also, if you're okay with the 32GB midnight blue, you can have them order it and overnighted. I ordered mine on Tuesday and got it yesterday.

US Cellular has both CW and Blue so you might want to give them a call.
Hi,
Please forgive this basic question but hopefully somebody can help me out. I want to buy a moto x 2013 and being located in the UK need a XT1052. I can't seem to find one anywhere however have found a few XT1058s on ebay.
I understand that it is a slightly different model that is meant for the AT&T network but I was wondering what consequences would be of using this phone in the UK. I appreciate that the 4g LTE bands are different, with the XT1058 only having one band (7) that is used in the UK, but would I miss out on anything else? Would I get software/firmware updates or not ie Lollipop upgrade etc? Would I miss out on anything else that might be important?
Any help appreciated
Thanks
I have one of these in Sweden, which works fine on 4G. No problems with updates as yet (I had a verizon xt926 which also worked here). If you are going to buy on eBay make sure you tell them not to upgrade it to 4.4.4 before they ship - I didn't, and am now stuck with an unrootable phone
@dextervelo if you are ok with the potential band differences for LTE/UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+ and are still interested in purchasing an XT1058 for use in Europe, consider the following...
The XT1058 for ATT is SIM Locked (aka Carrier locked) and bootloader locked out of the box.
The ATT XT1058 can be SIM unlocked (carrier unlocked) by purchasing a code from one of the many stores off the internet
The ATT XT1058 currently can not be bootloader unlocked unless it has never been upgraded to 4.4.4, in which case you could use Sunshine
An XT1058 for Rogers Canada can be SIM unlocked (again you might need to purchase code from online store) and Bootloader unlocked (code available for FREE from Moto's web site, and can be used no matter what ROM is on your phone)
If you don't get an OTA, as long as the ZIP file is posted, you can still side load an OTA
be careful where you buy your XT1058 from. I've seen a few with CID: 0xDEAD and other improper values which can cause issues (one such thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/moto-x-qa/moto-x-wont-update-to-kitkat-t3015318 )
NOTE: bootloader unlocking is only needed IF you want to either root, or run a non-Moto rom or recovery.
Thanks guys, good info to know.
The phone would be coming from Hong Kong. The price is pretty good which makes me wonder if I'm going to run into problems as detailed in the linked threads. The band differences are no big problem, especially if 4g is working in Sweden as they have the similar bands for their 4g as we do.
@EuanG, do you have any reason to think you won't get an OTA lollipop update or does it not bother you?
It feels a bit too much of a gamble, i might just wait for a good condition 2nd hand one to show up or am I worrying too much?
Mine was from Hong Kong, at a price worth taking the risk. CID looks ok and the phone does have an ATT rom, but on the back it is branded - Anatel -, hopefully it will upgrade to Lollipop. At the current prices on eBay I would be tempted to buy an xt1060 developer version, ok no 4G but probably a safer bet than risking getting a wierd xt1058
I use an XT1058 ATT in Romania.Although my status bar indicates 4G,in setting/status my mobile network indicates HSPA+.

That is likely due to the way the USA does things...
2/2.5G = GPRS/EDGE
3G = UMTS/HSPA
4G = HSPA+/HSPA
4G LTE = LTE
So if yours shows 4G for HSPA+ that is normal.
Hello everyone,
I really want a P20 Pro. I'm in the U.S. and would be using the factory unlocked Canadian ( CLT-L04 ) version of the phone via AT&T. It's soo much trouble getting this phone in the States. One of the things I'm most concerned about is getting the Android Pie update. It's supposed to start rolling out on the 10th, and I cannot find a concrete answer if I will be able to get it on my device. Contacted Huawei via facebook and asked and this was their response...
" Regarding your concern about updates; please bear in mind that, all of our updates are rolled out in batches according to the IMEI number and geographical region. If you own an unlock device, it will take a little more time to get updates. When the update are released, the carriers are in charge to send the update OTA."
When the update are released, the carriers are in charge to send the update OTA - That part has me concerned. Since I'll be on AT&T and it's not an officially supported device by AT&T, it sounds to me that I won't be able to get the update.
Anybody else in the U.S. that could help provide some insight on this?
Thanks in advance,
Rob
worst case is that you have to update it manually but that is pretty easy but i have no doubt that they will update every p20 pro to pie BUt it also depends on the carrier so getting a unlocked/unbranded device is a big plus for updates.

Thanks so much for the info! So the listing says this... "Only International items are Factory Unlocked without carrier logo and/or region lock." Without carrier logo I'm assuming means unbranded ( excuse my ignorance, I've never purchased a phone I couldn't just pick up in the store ) . So I should be able to get the Pie update without issue?

Yea seems like it and you can always flash some unbranded firmware tho if needed
Thanks! Sure hope you're right. Just purchased the last one the seller had.
Units sold by carriers in Canada are unlocked and unbranded. Mine is from Koodo/Telus and it's unlocked straight out of the box (it's the law in Canada) and doesn't have any carrier branding or carrier apps.
I think that as long as you are connected to the internet (mobile data or WiFi), you will get the update when a carrier releases it.

That's the concern I have though. I'm not on a carrier ( At&t ) that carries this phone.
Now that I've ordered the phone, I'm having a hard time finding screen protectors and cases for it. Ones I like that is.
I have the same concern. I bought my P20 Pro by an importer, since here in Brazil it is not officially sold. I know the model is from Latin America because it is a CLT-L29 C605. But since I bought it, it just made an update and I'm still with the July update (8.1.0.152) since then.
So I'm in doubt if I'm actually getting the Pie right now on the 10th.
It's unlocked.
I'm loving the device, but it's sad to know that I have a smartphone released this year, last generation and I don't have updates support for it.

I'm almost 100% sure that once Canadian carriers push the update you'll get it to. Has nothing to do with the carrier your on, updates are IMEI and model related. So if it's say a Telus/Koodo phone, you'll get the update when they push it.
That's been my experience anyways.
Ps. I'm using the same phone on Koodo now.
You should be on firmware .120 correct?

Check it when you get it.
But you'll be fine for updates.
So receiving the updates to the phone varies by the carrier? The carrier is the one that has to push the updates, like T-Mobile...?

Carriers push the updates yes. But say I buy a phone outright from Rogers and I use it on Telus...Rogers will push the updates to the phone, not the carrier I use it on. And I think it happens because the IMEI would originally be in the Rogers database.
This has happened to me several times now.

My phone isnt branded, so I dont know what carrier it is... because I bought it off a tech-store.
And for network, I am from Macedonia and I use VIP-MK sim card, which, as you said VIP wouldnt push the updates because the phone isnt from there, I don't know from where they're getting the phones to their warehouses, haha.
I just got a new update tho, b159, hopefully I will get the newest update after I install this one. ^^

Possible that if it's unbranded and belongs to no carrier that you'd receive the updates from Huawei servers?

I dont think so.
Because there are a lot of updates for my phone to firmware finder, which I think they're from Huawei's servers, right?
And since I boight my phone like a month ago, this is my first update. I was kinda stuck at 152 with July's security patches, and a while ago I received 159 with October's security patches. All I want to say by this is that if I'd receive the updates from Huawei, I'd have now the newest security patches, which is 161 version I think.
Who knows...that's just my opinion.
