[Q] c6603 motherboard installed on c6602 - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
My Xperia z c6602 has a motherboard problem and it seems like the only solution is changing the motherboard, I was thinking about buying the c6603 motherboard in case it would bring 4G LTE capabilities to my Xperia and if it's compatible. In case it isn't I'll just stick to the inicial plan of buying the c6602, I'm saying this because the price of both motherboards is pretty much the same, around 100 euros 130 dollars.
My question is: Will the c6603 mother-board work on my c6602?
Thanks,
UPDATE #1: In this post you can read the beginning of my nightmare http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/help/phone-starts-sounds-screen-remains-t2973399

I think you should get the C6603 motherboard. There is no difference between the C6602 and C6603, except that the latter has LTE connectivity. This difference is in the radio which is on the mobo. The mobo is what makes your Z a C6602 or a C6603. Your phones mobo is now dead which needs to be replaced. Replacing it with a C6603 motherboard essentially makes your Z an LTE equipped C6603.

That's nice, but first I wanted to try one last thing before throwing away my current motherboard, I'm a noob so this might look like a stupid question. Could I try installing my TA back-up back to the Xperia and see if it fixes the motherboard? the problem is since the screen of my phone it'd be impossible to root it and restore the TA using the app, so Could I flash the TA.img file (that's inside the BackUp .zip) with Flastool? or would that just destroy even more my little piece of #$%^????

psycho-punk said:
I don't think restoring TA will be of any help. But I'm no expert. And you should try everything you can. I never even backed up my ZL's TA, so I don't exactly know how to restore it.

Months later and after purchasing the motherboard, I've installed it and it DOESNT work, unbelievable. The phone doesn't turn on, the led doesn't blink, the phone doesn't vibrate, so I expended 80 euros for nothing and I even paid import taxes which in Brasil are ridiculous. I honestly don't know what to do. Could the c6603 motherboard be incompatible with the rest of the phone (which is c6602)? Can anyone help me? Should I ask for a refund and throw away my xperia?

[Q] Sony Xperia Z badly placed backplate

I recently bought an Xperia Z, but the glass back plate is a little bit caved in at the bottom, it's flush in the middle and it sticks out a little at the top, is this common? Has anyone had a similar problem? It really bothers me even though it's not visible ..

If you bought it from a shop then return it, since it's not normal.

Thats strange.... I think you mean insurance. That costs money and that is not what they meant here. Warranty is given by Sony if you bought the phone in an (authorized) store. So if you have a receipt you can go back to the store you bought your Z and claim warranty. The store will send your phone to repair center and they will fix it free of charge.

But rooting has nothing to do with a faulty backplate. So I still think Sony will repair your phone. Maybe you should try to contact them via Xperia Care chat support.

Just take it back, dependant on the carrier, they'll probably just replace it there and then (if you have the box and receipt).
They wouldn't notice it's rooted unless you have installed a custom ROM.
I work in an O2 shop in the UK and we have a 14-day fault swap policy. I assume most carriers are the same.
Under Eu legislation a shop has to give 2 years fault warranty its not a well know thing though so keep arguing and threaten lawyers then they will just replace

But I have a leaked 4.2.2 firmware and an unlocked bootloader, are you sure they don't check it?

...if you can prove it is a manufacturing defect (which this case should certainly fall under).
They are not legally required to cover things that can be caused by software errors, such as burning out a processor due to overvolting, increasing the wifi antenna power too high, nuking the baseband bootloader, etc.

I swapped and recycled rooted phones myself and had no issues what-so-ever.
I can only say this for O2-UK.
Take it to the carrier and don't mention the root or leaked firmware at all. I'd think they wouldn't look twice other than at the actual casing.

You can always remove root and unlock your BL (If you have saved your TA)

It's an indication that the adhesive holding the glass is starting to fail. Caused by the heat generated by the phone itself.

SUDDEN/UNTIMELY Death of my Xperia Z1

It looks like my phone is dead. I had it checked on repair store and they tried to reprogram and sort of downgrade the OS but unfortunately they weren't able to. Same thing happened. The second repair store said that the back panel has to be opened to check the internal of the phone but I didn't agree to do that.
I'm still trying to charge it today when I got home but still the same no LED light while charging. This is very frustrating as I spent a lot money to have this phone and didn't last for 2 months. Very disappointed. I will never, ever buy from an OL shop again. The warranty is void when I upgraded the OS as per the retailer so no replacement happened. Now I don't have enough money to buy a new one. Have to save up again and will take a couple of months to buy one.
Disappointment.

Thanks for taking your time in reading this post. Disappointed right? Huge amount of money spent for this but then this is what we get. Though I'm still somehow hoping that it will still get revived. Did Sony let us down?

My mistake is I bought mine from an OL shop here in the Philippines, not from a Sony or Xperia store. I still love Sony, I still want a Z1 but to be honest right now I'm not that 100% sure if I'm gonna buy another one. Though there's no other option out there for me outside Sony aside from Apple (I guess).

You guys experimenting with different firmwares, and if you brick your phones you blame it on Sony ? I don´t know if is something like that there for Qualcomm chips but I liked on my Tegra devices that I could restore even a hard bricked device with Nvflash...

Looks like your boot partition has been wiped. That's where kernel is stored. Without kernel, your device won't boot, neither recognize any plugged in cable (USB to computer either Charger).
They're two ways to solve this.
Claim your warranty to change your motherboard.
Find someone who know to revive dead Xperia Z1.
Hope this help.
good luck bro

That is not true. Without a kernel you should still be able to boot into fastboot mode (bootloader) or into flashmode and be able to reflash your device.

JTAG the phone should work but it requires a pro and since it's a new phone I highly doubt that there's any one out there who can do that you might have to wait also you will lose warranty permanently since it requires them opening your phone and soldering. Or send to Sony and pay whatever price they ask for to get it fixed.

Just so you know my phone isn't rooted or anything. I didn't do anything with it aside from updating it to JB 4.3 via Sony Update Service. That's all. That's why I'm so disappointed on why this happened to me wherein I'm not doing anything in it. It's perfectly usable before this happened.

Man than I am sorry fot that, but in your case I would probably send it back to Sony repair center for a warranty repair. I don´t know how it is in your country but I think in every normal country is the manufacturer responsible for the warranty and not the seller, so you even don´t need to contact the company from where you bought your phone, just send it back to the nearest sony repair center and they will repair your device. And if its needed, then don´t say that the phone died after update, just say them that the phone died by itself from nothing...

Yeah man, that's what I will actually today. I'll go to the nearest Sony Service Centre and have it check. Yep I'd say that I haven't upgraded it yet to 4.3. Service fee would be fine since it's not from a Sony store. As long as it will be revived it's fine with me. That is actually my last hope.
Don't blame Sony for that.
First off all - Mercedes sometimes have faulty cars, of course Sony has too but blame whole system for that won't get you nowhere.
If you had flashed custom kernels or ROMs this things could happen...
For all others - if you aren't sure what are you doing don't try to unlock bootloader or root your device...
Wait for a few weeks/months and we'll have better solution...
All devs here warned you - 4.3 on Z1 is new and every ROM and kernel or root method is in test phase...
It's ridiculous to blame Sony for flashing custom stuff and brake you device...
If you haven't then there's no reason not to use your waranty rights...
No matter where did you bought your device you have to have waranty!

As per the man I talked to when I went into the store the warranty is voided when I updated my OS to 4.3. I can only use the service warranty if I don't do ANY modification of OS or whatever on the phone even if it's from PCC or SUS. Stupid policy.

[Q] sony xperia z1 faulty display

Hey guys i purchased a sony xperia z1 about few months back and m sure my device has a faulty screen with a dead cell on it.... Sometimes it show many vertical black lines extending the whole screen... I have seen videos of teardown xperia z1 on youtube and realy worried by seeing how they open up the fone... Guys please advise me weather i should get it done from sony within warranty or i should let it be as it is as i don't want any further problems with my fone if sony center could not fix my fone like a new brand device.. M worried that my fone will lose it waterproof seal or Won't look like a new fone or loss of functionality in any manner.
Please suggest me guys asap wht should i do...??
You should take it to a Sony service center and have it checked, just to be sure. If the display is faulty then they should replace it under warranty.
As for the waterproofing, the service center should do a vacuum test (as it is stated here) to see if the phone is sealed properly after the repair (if they do decide to repair and not replace it).

If they said that you'll get a replacement phone and not a repaired / refurbished one, then that is what *should* happen.
I found this post here in which they replaced just the phone without the accessories, so it might be true that they do replacements like that.
Hope you get a new and problem-free one :fingers-crossed:
yadnit: my phone was replaced because of a faulty display, with a brand new one by the carrier i've bought it from. They did exactly what you said. They took just the faulty device, without any of the accesories that came with it in the box. They took my original Z1 box too. When the replacement arrived, it came in my original box, without being any kind of sealing. The phone had those protection plastic foils on it and when i started it, it was on .534 fw although my faulty unit was updated to .257 fw.
Another very important thing to pay attention to, is the new phone's IMEI. Mine has now a differen IMEI and even more it is unbranded and not simlocked (the faulty unit was branded and sim-locked also).
Hope this helps you!

[q] my z1s screen is cracked!

I don't know why, but I'm sure I didn't do it. My Sony Xperia Z1s C6916, which I bought from T-Mobile USA, suddenly had a crack in the screen, across the screen, left to right. The screen now is unresponsive and keep reading wrong touch controls. I cannot use it anymore.
Now I google it and found it's a well known problem amongst the Xperia Z series user, and that Sony, most of the time, won't recognize that is a manufacturer defect, and won't repair it under warranty.
As much as I hate it, I need to get it fixed. Question is.... to those with a similar problem, did you send your phone in to Sony for Screen replacement on any Z series ( Z, ZL, ZR, Z Ultra, Z1, etc.). To those who paid for the repairs, how much was it? I just wanna know because a local mobile phone repair shop can do it for $150 USD, more or less.
However, as much as I would hate the Sony right now, I trust them for repairing on their own products, resealing it the water-resistant ways, Though you can make sure that I'll treat it like any other phones, water-resistant or not.
What I'm concern about is the cost. Xperia Care online are idiots who can't tell the difference between a Sony Xperia and a Samsung Galaxy.
Also, I contacted Sony via email, twitter and facebook. I asked how and where to send the phone in. None have reply. on via email, they gave me the reference number.
What I need is for them to open a case, RMA form and number, and an address for me to send it to.
They are taking it awfully slow and I'm hating them for it.
If I could choose, I would want to send it straight to Sony HQ in Japan for repairs.
Have you tried calling them? Their customer service is very good.

I have to deal with support of various manufacturers daily (working as an it professional)
In Germany it's like this:
As end user your reseller must look at the case. If you bought it in a store go there and ask them.
HOWEVER
I've discovered that most of them are stupid and/or non cooperative.
So your best chance is calling the Sony support. Go to their website and look up their telephone number. When you call them you most likely need to give them some kind of serial (imei). After, tell them your problem and you most likely will get a return sticker. Send in your device via mail and get a repaired (or new) I device about a week later.
I've discovered that this way is the fastest and less troublesome way to deal with broken devices

I'm in a similar situation. TMo US took one look at it and said they won't fix it, and then informed me that I didn't have device protection on my plan (thought I had, grumble grumble) so they can't do anything for me. Called their claims department, was again informed that they cannot do anything for me.
Has anybody had luck with Sony HQ performing repairs? Or, has anybody had any luck with swapping over a clean screen and digitizer from another Z1s? I can follow teardown and rebuild guides to make the swap, and have all the small device tools necessary to swap the screen.
Meanwhile, my wife has no phone until we find some solution ...

Subscribing to this thread, because I noticed exactly the same thing yesterday. Took phone out of pocket and the bottom right of the glass is cracked. Not affecting use (for now) because it is in the large bezel area, but I did nothing but take it out of my pocket. Please let us know if it is repaired under warranty by Sony - I know TMo is going to say it was my fault.
Don't some of you use a leather pouch to protect the phone? It takes most of the pressure on the screen when in the pants or something

Never been much of a pouch (or case) user. If I knew the phone glass would crack spontaneously, I probably would have done something different (like not buy it).

Sony fixed my cracked phone, free of charge. I guess it was under warranty. They didn't even contacted me, they just ship it back to me with a UPS tracking number.

Wow you really got lucky! Either that, or Sony knows there's a problem with their phones and don't want to get into a whole debacle about it.

I really feel I lucked out. I was thinking I need to pay 200-300 USD for repairs and was dreading it. I even didn't wanted to send it in because I didn't have the money to spare.

Well ok then. Looks like it is time to try and find a backup phone to use for a week or so while I send mine in.

Any idea how long after they received it you got that tracking number? They've had mine for a little over a week and I'm just curious. Thanks
In about 2 weeks, i remember i sent it via fedex 4-11, they receive it 4-15 and i received the tracking number on the 25th.

This is a good method to reduce cost, but you'll have a higher chance in losing your water / dust resistance. You can also damage your phone if you're not careful. Not sure if people really care about the resistances though.

I sent my phone in to Laredo as well, my phone didn't have a warranty associated to it and they replaced the screen (along with some other parts) for free. If you want water/dust resistance, shell in the $25 for inspection / shipping and see what they'll charge you. For me they just repaired it without leaving an email or phone call. If they charge you an unreasonable price ($150 < x) then have them send it back to you and repair it yourself or have a third-party vendor do it for you.

In fact , the Sony customer support can't guarantee water resistance either after disassemble your Z1s.
The oem precut adhesive should not cause any problems with ruining your ip58 waterproof.
I've done lcd swaps and it should be properly sealed if you use that. As I've read, brand new Z1s have leaked water aswell so it might be about luck.

This just happened to my bf's z1s. He put it in his pocket when he got out of the car, walked into our apt, and when he took the phone out it was completely cracked and the screen was unresponsive.
He's sending it out today be checked by Sony. The rep made it VERY clear that the "engineers" would look at the phone and determine if it was a manufacture defect or not. If it was a defect, they'd fix it and return it. If not, then they'll call and discuss repair options.
You might not be able to tell from the photos, but the cracks are under the glass, and it's clear that it's not do to user abuse. Hopefully the "engineers" see it the same way.
Posts like these helped convince us that sending the phone to Sony was worth a shot, so I just wanted to share our experience. I hope he has the same success you did with getting it fixed. I'll update in a couple of weeks on the verdict.
PS: for anyone else that faces this issue, TMO insurance will not cover this without a $150 deductible. We were told that regardless of what caused the crack, they don't exchange phones with cracked screens. The TMO rep we talked to def didn't believe that the crack happened spontaneously. Don't waste your time.

Umm, you could try to repair the software via pcc. If that doesn't help I'd send it to sony... Idk where you're from, but you should have 2 years of warranty
