Moto X Cast Screen Issues with CM 11+ Roms. - Moto X Q&A

My Ghost is unable to cast screen with any CM builds. I am wondering if I am alone in having this issue.
The other Ghost handset I own currently runs the stock 4.4.4 rom and has no issues with cast screen.
I have tried all CM11 and CM12 builds offered on this amazing forum as well as the official CM builds. [thanks to all you guys busting your asses on nightly and weekly builds for the ghost!]
Has anyone else had issues when trying to initiate Cast Screen?. The device I am casting to [chromecast] is recognized, I am able to cast through netflixt, youtube, allcast, etc without issues. When I load my device through the embedded and the chromecast settings for cast screen, the device connects yet immediately ends the cast.
Sorry for my poor writing, I hope this is the correct forum to post this on. Has anyone else had issues with this? or is it just myself?

I've had the same issue

You know I thought about dropping it in Q and A, however I felt since this is more closely related to the recent development, I thought it would belong here. I can move thread if this is a problem.

Same issue with all cm based roms. It's not just the moto x either... Can't do it on my kindle fire.

if you noticed, with cm11 or more, under the Display settings there's only 1 option to cast screen, with stock there are 2, maybe it's that

I started a thread over in the Chromecast section to hopefully address this. It's not a moto x issue so nobody who can help would see it here.

Kang_CM9_Nightlies

Hi,
Thanks for all the devs, and also people who started to post nightlies..
I have started to use the Kang CM9 Nightly 20120116 for some time, and I am quite satisfied with it.
However, there are of course bugs/glitches, and I think there should be a thread about what is good/missing/whatever, and when to flash a newer nightly.
Problems I encounter are:
1- Wifi: After sleep, I have to turn Wifi off and then on so that the Nook will scan the wireless networks.
2- Android keyboard: I cannot use the Turkish characters.
3- Some apps are not working: Google Earth, skyscanner
4- Touchscreen lags more than CM7.
5- ADHOC wireless does not work; NC did not see the tether wireless from my phone. (The same phone I used with CM7)
There IS a thread to discuss the nighties. It's the 20-page long thread where the nightlies are posted, in the development subform.

Hi,
Well there are actually two nightlies, Kang & Samiam303. I do not know if they are same or has some minor differences. I also do not know if the differences matter at all.
Why I chose the Kang is only coincidence, and also I thought this thread was more a user thread, not a developer thread.
I for myself follow that thread too.
I'm on 0118 and screen feels great to me. wifi after sleep is fine. not going to try a different keyboard because i dont know if i will be able to get it back. google earth and skyscanner both crash due to a java problem. and my phone is dead so i can't test out the adhoc.
If you built your own kang then read through the dev forum and see if they talk about any of your problems. if you use the rom from Samiam303 then you need to post the info in his thread with details. there is no guarantee that any of the devs will see this post.
Hmm, interesting.. I somehow lost the ability to boot into recovery by using the power and N switch.
ROM Manager does the job though..
This thread should be closed

I didn't mean to imply that you're only allowed to talk about my nightlies -- but there are already plenty of threads for discussing CM9. There's the 174-page development thread, the 28 page thread I started for my builds, Eyeballer's "installing CM7/CM9" guide which has 63 pages of discussion, and a 29-page general ICS/CM9 user discussion thread. Starting yet another thread to discuss the nightlies is just going to make discussion of issues even harder for people to find/keep track of than it already is.

Hi,
That's OK. But when a thread goes lots of pages long, it is not easy to get the information you are seeking, especially when lots of things are happening quickly. Yesterdays info is already very old.
Besides, I think, some issues may be build specific, your nightlies, and eyeballers are different. Which means, if I ask about something about eyeballer's nightly I can not get an answer in the thread about your nightlies, etc. etc..

[Q] Kindel Fire HD 7" 2013

Hey Guys,
i just got a a Kindle Fire HD 7 2013 and was looking around here for roms etc.
I allready found the root thread thats nice. But as I see nobody is working on this device? I am now sure i ready thw whole Forum and didnt found any interessting thing about it. There was one post a few time ago that someone (i dont find the thread) said that Hashcode is working on this device is that truth? Someone has may some infos would be nice. I really hate the FireOS and it would be cool to see may a CM for this.
I am actuelly thinking about to send it back because i dont want this FireOS with all it stuff i dont need and this special offers. If nobody is working on it i going to send in and get my money back (i got it for 70€ that why i "insta" shop it and didnt checked forum before).
One thing more it is really confusing with all this post etc. its hard to see if the post is for the Kindel Fire HD 2012 or 2013 any idea how i can better find posts for the 2013 modell? Most threads are named "Kindel Fire HD 7".
To the end sry for my bad english hope you can understand me
Greetings Abgeloust
Hey!
What we need is time.. actually there are People working on this device. No CM for now, but the plan is to get Google Play fully working (which is already on a good way) and build a rom that is AOSPish-looking.
Someday there will be a CM for this device.. its too low on price to stay unattended.
Actual Development is ongoing in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544736
Have a look at the last few sites to have an idea whats going on.

Catalysm users

Now that this Rom/Mod is gone, what will you switch to? this was the first rom I used where EVERYTHING worked 100%...Now what? What is the closest thing that runs like stock with the nice extras?
thoughts?
Don't know, hopefully it will resurface before the next Android update.

Waiting for the next Google OTA and flash only system. Only Stock or Cataclysm, nothing else is not an option for me. Unfortunately!
Maybe, it'll be return in a big way.
Hm, I just saw what happened to the ROM. That's unfortunate what happened because ultimately the users and the developer lose out. His critics really lose nothing by him leaving.
At any rate, I made a nandroid in case it gets revisited, but I wiped the ROM and using a different one.

what did you switch to? how is it?
I think it's either staying at latest cataclysm (which works great) or going stock + xposed and gravity box
Probably switch back to stock and deal with xposed.
What exactly happened? I'd like to save the effort of post hunting.

I've used Pure Nexus and Chroma. Both are very similar. Kinda like Ford or Chevy, it's personal taste. Both are good but they are custom so Android Pay will not work.

I like Cataclysm due to Android Pay working. Outside of that, I'd rather do a complete custom ROM.

Someone accused the developer of not releasing code or something to that extent so his thread was moved from "Android Original Development" to "Android Development". He probably got angry and asked the mods to close the thread. It's too bad he let them get under his skin, but I can see how it would be frustrating.

I tried to post hunt to see what happened and couldn't find anything. So sad. This was best ROM I've ever used on N6. I have bookmarked page on AFH and will check periodically. Beyond that, if nothing after February Google update I will be forced to find another. So frustrating to not know what happened.

There is a populace here in XDA that doesn't/didn't like that he got too keep his rom in original development sections without releasing sources whereas many other devs had to keep proving to XDA mods that they have actually written their stuff and not just kanged it from another rom.
And as a result he was time again asked by various users to release his sources to prove that he didn't kang his stuff from other roms.
The additions he had in Cataclysm could certainly be found in other roms and earlier too but perhaps not in the same implement or even code. Or perhaps it was all copied. We'll probably never know now that he got fed up and left.
A fact is though that much of what XDA is now is based on being open source (if SuperSU isn't counted) so I do think all devs deserve the same treatment. If some have to publish their sources, then others should too.
As a matter I think it's best left at these facts without any more unnecessary drama.
---
And back on topic. Both Pure Nexus and Chroma are good alternatives for users looking at a near-stock experience with some modifications.

If you read this you will understand:
1 - Apparently, some developers agreed with what's published here: https://plus.google.com/+AlexCruz/posts/FVbxmtyop7W
2- Yesterday, atl4ntis nexus 6 thread got moved to the android development section.
3- He immediately asked for his threads to get closed.
4- He published this on his pushbullet
"Cataclysm development halted indefinitely
Dear users, after spending over four years on this project almost daily, apparently i'm still questioned over the originality of it.
I came to the conclusion that this is not fun anymore and i don't really deserve this attitude, so i've decided to spend my time on something else from now on.
If you feel offended by this decision and you've donated in the past 2-3 months (unfortunately paypal logs don't go over), feel free to send me the transaction id and i'll charge it back, like already did for the donations received today to cheer me up.
Thank you for the great moments spent together.
Cheers, atl4ntis."
That's it, sadly.
His work was ORIGINAL, if anyone doubts that they are new or frankly idiots or have a vendetta. There is no requirement on XDA to open source your work.
I hope people who hounded him and forced his thread to be moved are happy. It is a ridiculous thing to happen to by far the most popular rom for Nexus by a very respected dev.
XDA mods should really take a close look at this whole mess and rectify it, no one wins in the end.

Thanks for the info. Guess I'll just be shopping for a new rom. This was one of only 2 roms I found on which my "Dock Clock Plus" app would work.
Also liked the aroma installer.

Not really much point going into this. Whether his work was original or nothing doesn't even matter.
Fact is that he got treated differently than other "original devs" and fact is that because of this he got bothered almost as long as he released his rom.
He finally got enough and that's the end of that. Further drama won't do anything good.
According to @Neo, Original Development sections are being taken down anyway, if I understood his post correctly.
It's a shame..... Cata was the best way to go for me, too.
now without cataclysm we got only one option is left. EXPOSED FRAMEWORK and MODULES. individual module for individual features.
Anyone know how to leave cataclysm for stock rooted rom without full wipe? Can i just flash over it?
Does OK Google work perfectly on these (pure and chroma)? screen off in the car... I always had trouble with it on AOSP, not on cat though!

We already have taken a closer look at this. Now while as already stated Og Dev and Android dev having separate forums is over. All new devices will only have one section.
Now we will not talk about this but the dev has been given plenty of chances to that the rom was indeed OG development. (no XDA doesnt require the rom to be open source) The issue with that is without it being open source there is no way to prove that any work is OG development.

I dislike rants as much as you do, but if no one mentioned these issues in first place, OP wouldn't even give a crap about them.
It's good to have awareness on the current issues for each device. This makes people post in the official forums and file bug reports, which eventually helps everyone.
The again, most rants should be consolidated in a few main threads, to make sure we are all aware about the severity of each issue.

They do give a crap about stuff. OP bug hunters have been actively contacting people who have posted that they were having random reboot issues, to collect logs. They were very forthcoming with the status of the investigation into the cause of the issue, and gave status updates about the progress of the engineering team looking into it. (Issues have gone for me since *.*.2)

This way to much, while its a good thing to be able to talk about bugs and the community to make people aware of the problems I feel like most people do it in the wrong way. Post a thread explaining your issue in a simple calm manner so other people can maybe try and help you or replicate the bug. Submit a bug report through the official means. Nothing is going to get fixed if you don't tell the right people.

Fire HD 7 (2019 Edition) Slowdown

Hi,
I'm typing this question on my phone using the xda app, so I might have missed a post pertaining to my question. I do realize that the specifications on these particular tablets aren't that great, but I still enjoy using mine. I used an application here in the forum's to disable the amazon app's that I didn't want to utilize. So now my tablet more closely resembles an actual android tablet. I've got the google files app installed on both my tablet and my phone, it really does a decent job of keeping them rid of junk files. Over time though I've noticed that my tablet has slowed down, just like when using the popup keyboard, sometimes it takes a second or two before the desired character to appear. Has this happened to anyone else, and if so were you able to correct it, and if so how ?
Thanks,
David

Hi,
This is the wrong forum for talk about the New Fire 7 2019, instead, use the correct forum please
About your tablet, the described behavior sounds pretty common due the poor hardware and the lack of RAM on that device. I I would try to unlock/root it and install LineageOS 14.1 to see if the performance goes to better... If you don't want to switch to LineageOS, at least fully-uninstall the junk from Amazon with root.
Regards.

Fully concur having owned several generations of Amazon's least expensive gizmos. There are 'tricks' that yield modest improvement (eg: establishing a static swap file; tweaking swappiness) but the most effective generally need root. A factory reset will speed things up for awhile but you'll loose personal data and customizations.

No need to move unless you wish to continue the conversation; responses here are what you'd get in the other sections/threads. There are plenty of existing threads that discuss performance on these low end devices. Most conclude with similar outcomes.
