Do you have stock kernel and stock ROM? Have you try in mx player "h/w", "h/w+" and "s/w" decode for video and audio too?

Yes, you are right. I thought I've tested it long time ago but maybe I'm wrong. Now I was testing 60 fps video and they don't play well on my phone.
I think the Snapdragon S4 Pro is a bit old and can't deal with that. The T2 ultra has a "worse" processor but more modern:
Sony Xperia Z vs Sony Xperia T2 Ultra
maybe this is the reason but I really don't know so if someone knows the real reason he is welcome.
I've tested the same videos in an Android stick and it plays them better but not perfect. The processor isn't very good but more modern than the SXZ one.
I'm sorry because I can't help you much more.

I think bcoz the t2 ultra has preloaded decoder to play such type /format videos... And our Z is old so it don't have preloaded decoder of such type...
Don't tension its just a software issue... That's why video player apps are there which provides decoder to play any type of videos if the hardware ia capable of..

did you install mx player codecs for tegra 2? (you have them on play store as well)
yes i installed MX Player Codec (ARMv7) these are the ones anything else i can't believe that i am the only one who is experiencing this problem
Same problem... Codecs are installed for tegra 2 but video framerate is catastrophic.

Did you try with standard LG Fotocamera? I never had fullhd problems with froyo/GB/CM7/ICS
Nvidia tegra 2 cannot decode x264 or h264 formats @ 1080P resolution. Try converting the videos to MPEG-4 @ 1080 Resolution.

Yes, i do encode and decode movies. SO AFAIK, tegra 2 cannot decode h264 codec.
Tegra 2 can decode 1080p coded in low profile. Medium and commonly used high profile are not supported. You can google what choices you can set up to have low profile video. Very good SW for recoding videos is handbrake. I wish you good luck with searching best encode configuration.
i downloaded the iron man 2 trailer 1080p hd video here's the LINK
i'm using mx player, temasek final build rom and stefan final symbiosis kernel
the video is sluggish to play and the sound is not matching when stark open his mouth for now i didn't using ICS rom or cm10
i also try to play the video in different decoder included on the mx player but it doesn't work
You can run 720p or 1080p fluid.. spawndk from the eepad transformer forum:
"The Tegra2 chipset are designed as a mobile sollution chipset - to support web 2 standards. The highest encoding profile used here (Youtube 1080p) are 1080p baseline and this the Tegra2 chipset will both record and play with no troubles. As well as 720p baseline and main profile - but only upto L3.1 with some limitations. It doesnt matter which container is used (mkv, mp4, m4v, avi etc) and it doesnt matter if resolution are 1080p - its only a matter of the encoding profile used to encode the supported video format H264
Tegra2 will NEVER be able to decode High profile L4.1 encodes - it's not a software issue, neither in terms of Honeycomb or Nvidia libs, its simply a limitation of the abilities of the hardwaredecoder in the Tegra2 chipset and this will never change. It is also not a limitation in the Transformer specifically, but a limitation in ALL Tegra2 based tablets and mobilephones.
This is the same reason why some mediaplayers like the Boxee Box that was originally intended to use the Tegra2 moved on to an Intel chipset before launch.
In short the Tegra2 chipset will support playback of videos encoded in 1080p or 720p resolution, using the H264 video codec and AAC audio codec - as long as the video are encoded after the baseline profile standard
It will not now or ever - play 1080p/720p encodes encoded after the high profile standard."
So basically, you have to reencode videos just like on ipad..
you should reencode to low profile, high profile is for blu-ray device or PC. don't know maybe exynos 5 can play high profile [email protected] with handheld.
Thread moved. Please post all question threads here in Q&A in future where they belong.
Thanks

I should be able to answer your question in one hour. Stay tuned!
EDIT:
Unfortunately, when I tried to playback 720p 10bit video standard video player refused to play it and mxplayer opened it in software mode, refusing to use the H/W and H/W+ modes. In software mode I'd say it is watchable but is not perfectly smooth.
played a 10bit mkv through standard player, no lagg, smooth, while this was lagging using stock rom.. im now on tuddzrom , not sure if that fixed it lol but smooth nonetheless
Ok thanks guys
Galaxy S4 is supposed to have faster CPU than Xperia Z , so hope it will play it 10-bit 720p video smoothly.
5.1 channel mkv?
Guys,
On my Note II i can play 1080p mkv no problem, but the DDS (dolby digital 5.1) audio will not play.
I am switching to Z on Monday and am wondering if the 5.1 audio plays on mkv formats as well. Could u check that?
THanks!
1080p FLAC works flawless depending on the bitrate
720p no problems at all
Problem comes with 10bit. I think we all know that we want to watch our anime along the way. Most episodes are Hi10p.
I am not sure but how different is the Nexus 7 CPU against the Xperia Z? I can use the HW and HW+ decoder for 10bit episodes and they run smooth. But somehow the XZ refuses to use the HW/HW+ decoder. Might be, cause it's still new? No real HW support from MXPlayer yet?
I have no idea tbh.

I guess 10 bit 1080p is asking too much
If we talk about Xperia Z hardware capabilities to decode 10-bit encoded video, the answer is no, it will never allow it. Currently there isn't any smartphone being able to decode 10-bit enconding.
On the other side, software decoding is based on how well the algorithm is developed rather than the device itself. It's pure CPU processing power + how optimized in the algorithm so that might change with time. And from what I've seen reading this post MX video player is working on it.

Is HTC one powerful enough to handle 10-bit 720p video smoothly ? Can someone test it ?
Note: The default media player probably won't play 10-bit videos. So, download MX Player from google play, and make sure you use S/W (software mode) for playing 10-bit video.
Also, you can easily find countless of 720p 10-bit animes if you use google. So, please someone test it for me.
Anyone ?
I doubt many of us are familiar with 10 bit video. Try asking the int'l One forum, they already have the phone available.

Stock Player can't
What he is asking for is if the Z1 can play Hi10p encoding. This is the latest encoding using 10bits instead of the normal 8bits (you can google for the rest of the features). You can go to doki.co or bakabt.me (BBT usually has larger files since it's full series, but if you're afraid of getting called the P word, everything in BBT is unlicensed in the states) and get one of the episodes there. The episode name will have 10bit or Hi10P or H10P in the name.
I don't watch movies on my device, but I have a few downloaded and waiting to be transferred off. I tried and the stock player and ES media player can't play these videos. I'm not sure if there are any 10bit player in the play store either.
I'm sure Z1 can handle that video but the question is do we have software and codex for that.
I really don't know that - so sorry - can't help here.

Also watch a crapton of anime, Z1 plays 720p Hi10p videos fine using MX Player.
Struggles with 1080p Hi10p, but the file I tested had a very high bitrate and it was streamed from my PC.
Only works with software mode though, so battery takes a bit of a hit.

I have yet to see the first Snapdragon for the Tab S series, all of them have been Exynos, i believe that they might use Snapdragon in the NA models to come around november to Verizon and T-Mobile but right now, the LTE and WiFi versions T700-705-800 and 805 are using Exynos.
Video playback has been smooth on my T705 (lossless 1080 flac).

What player were you using? SW or HW decoding? Prolly in SW decoding mode any of these won't be able to produce smooth playback and from what a quick reading on the specs and a couple of sites, the Mali GPU on the Exynos SoC would not support 10bit video decoding... so if I'm not wrong, there goes my hope...

There's no GPU, PC or mobile, that supports hi10p decoding. That said, I have a hard time believing that the Tab S wouldn't be able to play 1080p hi10p videos smoothly as my old Nexus 10 with a far slower CPU almost pulls that off and my Z1c with a Snapdragon 800 plays them smoothly (granted, it's a much lower resolution screen but still) with MX Player.
I've put a test video in the link below that people can try to see if it plays smoothly. MX Player is recommended.

Lol full metal alchemist... love the anime... it play fine on my tab s 8.4 with bsplayer and its extra 7arm codec.
Mxplayer was ok last time but now since they lose some codec due to licensing issue some of the high quality video just play choppy since its use sw mode only.
Btw the tab s also lacking some codec. Dont know why samsung left out some of the codec although the device are capable.

HW wasnt supported. so it was SW.
It's working just fine on my tab 10.5 exynos processor. However i had to turn off all the codec codes and run on pure hardware acceleration for it to work. Goes to show the exynos processor can play videos just fine without any hardware codec or software aid.

I wouldn't know about the Mali GPU capabilities, but I also thought a Snapdragon800 should be able to playback Hi10p, hence I was interested on getting the 'supposed' Snapdragon version of the Tab S 8.4.
The new Mali -T764- though, seems to support 10bit decoding and H265/HEVC, so I was kinda hoping the T628 Mali would do also 10bit decoding...

That clip played fine on my 10.5 thru BS Player but SW mode only. All my 1080p rips play in HW mode so not sure... This is still a great device for multimedia.

Where do you guys get these 10bit Anime series from. I normally stream them from Anime.fullfights so quality is never really HD (it says 720p but most likely a bit compressed)

General torrent sites or dedicated anime trackers.
BTW i just bought a Tab s8.4 today, and tried the sample straight away using vlc, smooth playback, will try with the video I could not play with an galaxy s4, which is higher bitrate, if it plays back I would be officially in love with the thing.
No luck, tried a high bitrate video (with embedded subtitles), the same I used on the Galaxy S4, and it plays better but is still unwatchable Both with VLC and KmPlayer. I will install xbmc and BSPlayer tonight but I fear the results will be the same :/

Hi eousphoros, last night I tried with MX Player, HW+ mode did not work, but software&multi core mode seemed to play it back about fine, not absolutely perfect, but watchable, as soon as I flash a custom kernel a play with settings a bit I'm sure it will improve the missing -tiny- bit. Thanks for the tip. Will try also BS-Player&XBMC.
