[Q] Modem issues - cannot make calls or connect to 3g. - Moto X Q&A

Yesterday, my 2013 Moto X (international model) started behaving VERY strangely. My 3g connection just died, and I stopped being able to make or receive calls - SMS works fine though, and my signal is very strong.
I can't make calls, the call just dies before even trying to ring, and people calling me just go straight to voicemail. Also, in the status menu my Network Type and Phone Number are listed as Unknown. I also tried rebooting into "Factory" mode through the Bootloader and found that my phone ICCID is also listed as Unknown. IMEI is fine though. It's so weird and frustrating.
I called my cellphone service provider (Movistar Chile), and they reset my network profile and gave me a new SIM card as well, to no avail whatsoever. The problem still persists even after a reflash (through fastboot) of the stock 4.4.4 firmware.
Is my phone dead? Or could it still be a solvable issue, be it network or phone fault?

If sms works and not phone, it's not your radio connection to the carrier, so sounds like a carrier issue if reinstalling firmware didn't help.
Did you do anything at all to your device before this happened? Though reflashing firmware should have corrected anything.
I'd be calling the carrier again.

If it were hardware, Usually sms wouldn't be working either.... Usually.

No, that's the weird thing. I hadn't done anything to the device before it happened, I was literally just chatting through the Facebook Messenger app when my data connection died and it hasn't reconnected since then.
I did call my carrier again, and they issued a ticket to tech support, so I guess I have to wait for their resolution as well.

Wait, sms works... But not phone calls Or data?

Precisely. I can SEND and RECEIVE text messages, but I can't MAKE or RECEIVE phone calls, and data is completely disconnected.

Not sure about phone, but for data... Google your carriers APN settings and see they match yours. In mobile settings, access point names.

Did you completely flash everything with fastboot and mfastboot?
Have you tried RSD Lite? Same Android version for your exact model of course. (this will wipe your phone completely.... Do backup anything important and transfer off the phone)

1. Yes, I already tried that. APN's are correct, I deleted and re-entered them just in case anyway. No change.
2. Yeah, I actually reflashed twice with different stock firmwares for different carriers with fastboot and mfastboot.

Well, it's sounding like hardware failure then unfortunately.
The only other thing to check, is that you have the correct radio installed. If you flashed stock, you should... But I'd double check. I don't have the answer to which is the correct one for you, you may need to search on that, or hope you can find someone here to compare too.

If you are within warranty period... You may want to go that route.
With sms working, I still suspect sim/carrier issue... But if they are no help, what can you do.

Yeah I know, I starting to fear hardware failure myself. I guess I'll wait to see if the carrier fixes it, otherwise I'll have to get a new phone :/

It could also be an issue with your SIM card. Maybe try turning the phone off, removing SIM and booting. Then Turn it off again and re-insert the SIM and boot again. You can also see if your local carrier store has another SIM card that they can test it with.

I got a new SIM card from my carrier yesterday, after I complained. Problem persists.

Finally, I took the phone to the official Motorola service where I live and they confirmed it was a hardware fault, and as I had unlocked the bootloader I'd have to pay an outrageous amount for them to fix it (motherboard had to be replaced). So I decided to get a new phone instead, and now I happily own a brand new Nexus 5.
Thanks for the help anyway

[Q] A lot of weird problems with my xperia z?

Okay so I'm having a lot of problems with my phone that started a few days ago, yes I've searched all over the place and not much help and I'm not sure what to be looking for or where to put this but anyway; it started when I decided to get a data plan for my phone, it wasn't working so I had to set up the apn for my carrier and it was going fine until my Play store didn't work anymore, "no connection, retry" I've tried everything to fix it but it seemed to work when I cleared all of the apn settings and used wifi instead of data, but I can't test that now because I've no wifi and I'll lose my data apn? Google plus doesn't work anymore either, no data received or something, and Google now gives a "sign in error" on my phone and my tablet, and just today my play store has stopped working on my tablet as well (samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1, slim bean 4.3) also, I just reset my phone yesterday and suddenly my sd card is damaged? I didn't even have anything open just on my launcher, speaking of which I'm using the launcher from the nexus 5 and I can't swipe left to Google now anymore? Lastly, I was briefly getting no service for a while even though other phones in my house on the same carrier had full service? I know that's a lot but are all of these problems related, and is there any way to fix them? Thanks in advance!
For the Google related problems, you could try going to Settings>Accounts>Google and then Remove account. Clear the cache and data of the problematic google apps, and then sign back in.
For carrier related problems, reverting back to your old apn or use the "Internet settings." If you have the LTE version of the Xperia Z, you could go to Mobile Networks>Service providers and choose the HSPA band of your carrier.

Your first thing to try should have been the first thing you said. Take out the SIM card, put it in another phone and see does the DATA work then. If not contact your carrier. Don't start disassembling the phone...
The follow what the other guy said... but having said that your phone sounds messed up already so start from a FULL Factory Reset and re-flash the latest FW.

The data is fine, I just think it's affecting my Google apps, and I've been trying to download the latest 4.3 version but I keep getting a download failed, I can't use broadband because I don't have it and the only ftf I have is 4.1.2 and if I flash that I'll have to use more of my data getting back to 4.2 and updating apps and I can't use that much of my data? I hope the firmware update will fix the
Google apps and random vibrations

I have the same error. ATT tells me that their network detects new vs used sim and rejects used sims for tethering. We need a new sim.
---------- Post added at 09:08 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:07 AM ----------
Maria Martell: I believe using a new simcard will also make your data services work.
Jon: you think i need a new sim?
Jon: i just got this sim a couple weeks ago
Maria Martell: Yes, we also need to update the new simcard here since the old simcard was already used on a different device.
Maria Martell: Our system will detect if the simcard was already used or invalid.
Jon: oh
Jon: is there any way to make my current sim work in new phone for tethering?
Jon: the att store is far
Maria Martell: I understand, however since it is a new device, it also requires a new simcard.
Jon: you cant change the sim in your system?
Maria Martell: I can, but the system will detect it as a used simcard and it will still not be activated.
She says data services / activate, but it's specific to tethering it seems. My data is fine just not tethering.

[Q] Help with AT&T Moto X gen 2

I mistakenly (for full price) bought the AT&T X Gen 2 from motorola store instead of the pure edition, and realized it too late to return the device. Since I am on tmo, I tried to get it unlocked by AT&T - who were completely unhelpful. I then bought an unlock code, which seemed to have successfully unlocked it (put in the tmo sim, asked for code, input the code and it accepted it). Now - the phone can make calls (both with the tmo sim, and with an AT&T sim), but no matter what I do - there is NO data capability. Works fine with Wifi, but both with tmo or at&t SIMs, there is no data connectivity.
I am wondering if the unlocking process didn't work right, and has the radio stuck in some weird state - which makes data not work. I have tried hard resetting the phone etc - but no luck thus far.
Any suggestions? Is there a way to flash the radio to revert it back to factory settings with data working. Anything else I could try? Is there a factory AT&T ROM that I can "officially" restore the device using?
Out of curiosity, how did it take you over two weeks to figure out you bought the wrong device?
Did you set the proper TMo apns?

Unfortunately - this was ordered by someone else for me while I was traveling. It arrived, but by the time I got it in my hands it was too late
Yes - tried the tmo APNs and no luck. I also factory reset back to AT&T defaults and still no data (with an AT&T SIM). It shows a "gray" 4G icon, but that's it.
I was hoping that there was some official tool that would allow me to flash the factory ROM (or something similar) that would fix whatever the unlock code screwed up. Even the phone gets relocked - i don't mind. I am happy to use it with AT&T.
Turn off phone, Take sim card out, do a factory reset, let it boot up, then shutdown, insert sim and turn the phone back on.
Tried that before - but will try again. Will report shortly.
No luck. Did as you suggested. Still shows a grayed out 4G icon. The data settings seem right - shows the AT&T APN. browser says phone is offline.

Call Problems

Don't know if this issue has been addressed but my Nexus 6 is 2 months old. Recently no one I call can hear me but if they call me back everything is fine. My phone is completely stock running 5.01 on Cricket Mobile with LTE working everywhere I go. Any thoughts or suggestions? I bought this phone straight from Motorola if this makes a difference.

Well, I've been searching the Q&A forum for this and at first, I haven't found what I'm looking for. I know I've read of this issue before though. If you want to try to get the OTA, here's a simple way:
Power off your Nexus. Remove the Sim card. Power on and let it sit for a while. Reminder, you won't be able to call or receive calls for this time. The OTA should appear shortly, especially if connected to WiFi. Install OTA and let the phone do its thing. Once all is said and done, reinsert your Sim.
Yeah, I have seen this problem on different forums myself with really no clear cut answer. Thanks I will try that for my update and let you know how it goes as far as the calls. Thanks!

As it should be, but you could try switching to global to see if there's any improvement. I think the OTA may solve this as well.
There is no option to switch back to global. After a factory reset it is in global mode if changed to LTE it will not go back. Also, I'm at work so WiFi in my part of the plant is very weak so should I wait until I get home to do the sim pull and then let my phone try to receive the OTA maybe overnight on my home Wi-Fi?

Are you able to contact the provider and have them reactivate? That might be necessary. You may want to consider unlocking the bootloader, at this point, since you've already factory reset. You could then flash the factory image.

I've also done a hard reset with volume+power, same result and I've flashed the zv6 tot with lg flash tool same result. I downloaded a app called lte discovery and it says that the radio is disabled.
