Anyone experiencing random reboots? - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo Q&A, Help & Troublesh

For the second time in about 5 hours my turbo just rebooted itself. This time, it froze, began to display the boot animation, froze again, and then fully rebooted showing the Motorola logo (it didn't do that upon initial freeze.) anyone else experiencing similar issues? Should I be worried?

Correct

make sure your not running ART keep it on Dalvik I changed to ART and had nothing but reboots changed back and no reboots.

I havent experienced any random reboots. Could be that you are on ART mode that could be causing that. if you are then go back to dalvik and it should not randomly reboot anymore, but if you have been on dalvik mode all this time then best bet is to do what other have suggested and that is FACTORY RESET.

Well I've been using dalvik this whole time, but it hasn't happened again since I posted this. If it does I'll probably do an FDR like you all suggested.

yes it was rooted and running market with gapps.
something happened with an sd card and it got low on power i had to pull the battery to stop it endlessly bootlooping. then i tried to start it up and it crashed over and over again.
I did a factory reset to it and now its back to bone stock.
so i will be rerooting it probably tomorrow.
there goes another 2 hours.

[Q] Random reboot after lockscreen

Hello,
My phone is almost a month old now and first two weeks were fine no problem at all. Now last few days it has been randomly rebooting itself when I swipe my lockscreen to open. It never does this when I am using the phone only sometimes when I'm unlocking the screen by swiping or just directly go from notifications etc. This happens like twice a day depending how much I use my phone.
I also feel like it first started to happen when I updated it. To be honest I am not sure what it did update. I also installed bunch of apps which I did delete later.
What should I do next? Factory data reset? Or is there a way to see the "crash report" or something to see whats causing it?
tldr; phone randomly reboots after lockscreen, what to do
Thanks.

After the update if some issues show up is recommended to do a Factory Reset. Start do that.

Agreed. If that does not work, re-flash the phone with a stock FTF to start over. If the problem continues after that, it must be some hardware issue.

I did that and didnt get single reboot yesterday. Too bad I didnt try this earlier. Thanks.
I am having the exact same issue.
Here is that I have done that didnt work.
Reset (vol up/pwr)
reset using red button by sim card
factory data reset
software install using pc companion
However, After each one I set the phone back up how I had it. I had the gmail widget on the lock screen. the phone would reboot at random times right after attempting to unlock. I removed the gmail widget and it hasnt happened since! I sat here locking and unlocking for about 15 minutes and it hasnt rebooted.
IN SHORT TRY TO REMOVE THE WIDGETS BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE
Hope this helps

[Q] [HELP!]

I have a Verizon, stock, unrooted Moto X. Today while updating several apps in the Play Store my phone all of a sudden flashes a black screen, followed by a split second of the boot animation (one of the animated globe scenes) then went black. Pressing and holding the power button force resets my phone, which goes through the entire boot animation, then the Verizon logo, then an unresponsive black screen. I've done the 3-button reboot and then told it to reboot normally, but with the same result. Eventually after about 6 or more failed bootup attempts, it'll finally boot up all the way. I don't remember which app was in the process of updating when this happened, but it did happen twice today. I've got 8+ gigs of free space available on internal storage. Has anyone had this happen before? Any idea what could cause it or what I should do about it? I'm afraid it might keep happening more frequently or my phone might just up and die . Had it since November.

If a factory reset does not fix the issue, all I can suggest is find the thread "Return to Stock" and follow the instructions to flash the entire stock SBF for your carrier. This should fix any corrupted files, if present. Either option WILL erase everything, so backup anything you need first.
Good Luck
Maybe your battery stats are off? Were you low at the time? Sure sounds like the power just died?

Nope, phone had been off the charger only a few hours, still had 85% or so. I actually tried plugging the phone in while it was booting up to see if an extra jolt of juice would somehow help it to fully boot up... made no difference. After 6-8 failed boot attempts, it finally booted up and has been running fine since... although I have yet to try to manually reboot it.
Well, if it acts up anymore...I'd consider a full wipe and return to stock. Same android version you're on now of course.
Otherwise...probably a fluke. ?

[Q] Lollipop Restarting & Optimizing Apps Randomly

Hello All,
I received the Lollipop OTA about a week ago and since then my phone has been randomly restarting on its own and then proceeding to perform some sort of process once it starts.
It says something along the lines of "Optimizing Apps 1of 119" and this process takes a while. I have tried clearing the cache but it doesn't seem to help.
Any ideas of whats happening, solutions ?
Thanks,
Pete
I can confirm the problem. Having the same issue where apps are optimized on every power on.
When my nexus 7 updated to 5.0 it did this a few times. Then mysteriously stopped doing it after a week or two.
Whenever Android boots and starts with "Optimizing App # of #" it usually means your ART cache got wiped for whatever reason (corrupted maybe). This is the same effect as if you wiped the caches in TWRP. It takes a long time because ART caches are substantially larger than Dalvik caches.
Try to plug the cable off before turning on the phone. Looks like a serious bug but that helped in my case.
I performed a factory reset last night seems to be much better so far, I will report if the issue starts up again !!
Pete
Which lollipop update did u do, i mean the brazil retail one or the europe one??
Cos i faced this issue a lot in brazil retail update, yet to try europe update....
had the GB OTA update and can attest to the annoying android updating with each phone restart, fortunately I have not had any random rebooting issues as reported by others

But you do have annoying apps update at each restart right??
Yes i have the annoying android updating with each restart
I have experienced these random reboots and I have also noticed that I get an error when taking screenshots where it says that either the storage is full or the app doesn't allow it. I have at least 3gb left and I have tried it across the system and it doesn't work. I am on the retail US version for XT1053
Sent from my SHIELD Tablet using Tapatalk
I have also some optimising situations on the restarts. Someone know what can fix or raise this situation?
Sent from my XT1052 using XDA Free mobile app
the android updating stopped, not sure if it was clearing the gallery data (2GB) the helped, or booting it safe mode, anyway boot time is now back to normal
Mine only gets into the process of optimizing apps when it's connected to the power source (PC via usb or directly to the power outlet). I just have to remember to unplug before switching off the phone.
It doesn't restart on its own.
Apart from missing lots of features after the Lollipop update, I also have the optimizing problem, it takes 30min and is extremely annoying, happened 5 times already, one time was a random reboot.
Any idea how to fix it? I do not consider a factory reset a solution. Motorola has spend much time and effort in upgrading while keeping all existing settings and app configs and app data. If I knew I would need a reset I would not have "upgraded" (def would have stayed with 4.4.4 had I known some pratical features are missing, the change log and all tech sites are waay to optimistic about the Lollipop updates!).
same here.

My sister in law had the same experience.. After the 5.1 update on her XT1053 Dev Edition, she kept getting the "optimizing app xx of yy" on reboot... After a factory reset, and setting up from scratch, she is back to working fine.
Friend of mine had the same experience with his XT1053... factory reset and setup from scratch fixed it.
I received the OTA two weeks ago (retail.en.gb), after some days i had a reboot and the optimization of 130apps
So i decided to do a factory reset and install just few application.
Tonight i forgot to put the phone on charge and this morning i had again reboot and optimizaion, just 80 apps bat took 10minutes!
I hope someone found a fix for this annoing issue
worst phone ever, it is very frustrating, should i upgrade to android M ?
Try encrypting then factory reset.

About Mi A2 Factory Reset

My Mi A2 was behaving weirdly. Uninstalling apps was making the system to freeze and reboot itself. There were also other small nagging issues. So, decided to do a factory reset.
I did the factory reset from withing setting menu. After confirming to go ahead with the factory resetting, the phone rebooted to a black screen displaying "Erasing" and then it powered off. I waited few minutes thinking that it might have been doing something in the background. But the phone didn't boot itself. I pressed and held the power button and then it booted just fine and I continues with the setup procedure. I have owned several android phones previously, but each one of them rebooted itself after factory reset.
Is this something new/normal to Android One devices? Or did I unknowingly interrupted the resetting procedure? Does anyone have any experience/insight on this issue?
P.S.: I removed my google account and screen-lock before resetting.
P.S.: I did a reset again and this time it behaved as expected and rebooted itself as normally it should.
it might be hardware issue
