Hi everyone,
I have an unlocked, rooted, running 5.0.1 Lollipop Nexus 6 that is on the Verizon Network. I also have an unlimited data plan. Ever since I upgraded to 5.0.1 I have been getting very slow upload and download speeds confirmed with the SpeedTest mobile application. I attached a screen shot for you all to see. I've tried rebooting, tried changing from Global to LTE, even turned off N6 and took out SIM card for 5 min to still no avail. Prior to the upgrade, I was averaging around 20 to 25 Mbps downloads. And I have not changed locations recently. Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated.
I thought I was the only one with this problem, my download speeds are slow now as well. I get 6mps, when normally I get around 35mbps
Are you guys on the latest radio??

I used the radio file from the shamu-lrx22c-factory-ff173fc6.tgz image. Are there specific radios for Verizon?

I'm having a rather peculiar problem. It appears to have started after 5.5. The issue I am having is unbearably low HSPA speeds. Like 300kbs slow. LTE is as fast as usual. I have a T-Mobile One and have tried using both the T-Mobile firmware and the newest 3.62 firmware with the same results as well as a slew of GE & Sense radios.
The wife's T-Mobile One that just updated to 4.3 is not experiencing the same thing. In fact connected to the same tower forcing HSPA she'll net over 12mbs whereas I struggle to hit 1.
I thought it was a fast dormancy issue so I flashed Insert Coins build and disabled it with the same result.
Thoughts? Anyone else experiencing this?
(As a last ditch effort I am going to use the T-Mobile RUU and start from scratch)

You could be getting throttled from the Mothership.

This is only at night? Every night then in the day your ok.
I noticed that in my area before. I think they are working on upgrades during night when network traffic is low.

Yes , on peak lte speeds really suck in my area also, my fix is to go to mobile connections and choose wcdma, gsm (4g). It usually gives me 1.8 MBS . Too bad device/network can't determine fastest speeds vs strongest signal. You will be pleasantly surprised by switching to 4G
You right. For the first few months after lte was introduced in my area I was using 4g only. I had faster and steady downloads with up to 2mbit uploads while lte was randomly dropping connection, swithing to 4 or 3g. For 4g I was using 4g apn settings what originally came with my note 2 not latest lte apn setting.

I have unlimited data so it shouldn't be throttled. I talked to T-mobile yesterday and they don't even know what could be causing it. This just started 2 weeks ago. I did get a free sim card and $30 off my bill so can't complain too much.

Downloading torrents? I heard that T-Mobile will throttle you if they notice.
same thing happens to me at night, i've checked it consistently around midnight and it's always under a meg
Nope. Between my girlfriend and I we have only used 70 gigs.

That was the first of 3 back to back tests. These were the other 2. Higher overall reading but really inconsistent while testing. Even then, usually when T-mobile hits the throttle switch, a speed test will show normal data speeds.

Probably working on towers in your area at night...
Just talked to T-mobile again yesterday. Still No Update from the engineers. They haven't been doing any maintenance on the towers. Maybe I just got a bad Note 4. I Got On the 2nd Shipment when it released. My Gf got her Note 4 about a month ago and she isn't having any of these issues.

15-20 down 5-8 up. Here's the part I can't figure out. I was randomly doing iplookups yesterday and my ip location jumped from Texas to Alabama to Washington then back to Texas towards the end of the night. And I live in Louisiana.

T-Mobile right now is in a huge state of expansion, whilst trying to maintain reliability during peak hours in your area, they will be maintaining the strength of the network during late hours

That's perfect fine and what I assumed, but why wouldn't they just say that when I called them? I've talked to their top level of engineering and he didn't say a word about maintenance.

My recent speed test on T-Mobile 4g with new note 4. Don't know if it's the phone or the network.

Reboot phone, turn off all messengers. In settings in speed test app choose server hosted by Tmobile, run the test. If still very slow try in another location where you are connected to different Tmobile tower. If still slow you are either being throttled by Tmobile or you have defective phone. Put your sim card to friend's phone and run test again. If very slow then throttling, if normal then phone is damaged. Another issue could be network itself. To check this you would need someone with Tmobile smartphone to perform test at your location using their device and sim card.

Do you have the Unlimited LTE Data plan?
I've had this as well. I'm on T-Mobile in Phoenix Arizona. When I'm out and about, I'll run speed tests and range anything from .50 Mbps to 4mbps download speeds on LTE. Well, that's assuming I can even connect to data. Usually just get the ! instead.
Yes I have unlimited LTE
I'm on unlimited. When I sideloaded the 5.0.1 D OTA update my phone was fast. When I switched to the 5.1 M update it slowed to down a lot. I flashed 5.1.1 T-Mobile update and it's still slow. It doesn't matter the time of day or server. It's just slow. Right now I'm on 5.1.1 unrooted. I'm thinking about flashing the 95R radio from the 5.0.1 update and see what happens.
Edit: My 3G is faster than my LTE. My Nexus 5 is fast.

My APN is the fast.T-Mobile.com APN that came with the phone I deleted all the other apns
im having a weird data issue too. connectivity on lte and wifi or both erratic after updating to 5.1.1 last night. going to wipe it this am and see if that fixes it.
Same here.
Since moving from my Note 3 (16 to 20 Mbps down) to my beloved Nexus 6 I am getting horrible speeds. This morning a little more than 1 Mbps. I put in a repeater to see if that would help speeds, but no. I was just assuming that I was on an oversold tower. I AM on the unlimited plan. I have also been wondering if I am throttled. I go to my father in laws house and I have gotten 50Mbps down on this Nexus. I would like to add that I don't think it is the phone. I used an adapter and put my nano Sim back in my Note 3 and got the identical results. So it leads me to look at my service being cut or my tower oversold.
Something is wrong with my APN I use the stock APN that comes on the phone it's slow but there is also an APN for metro PCs if I use that one it's get like 10mb down and up maybe I need the stock T-Mobile apn
Hello All,
I'm on new build stock LMY48M (rooted), and notice that my LTE is slowed down. I'm on unlimited data and my plan just started a new month. Over the last few days I notice my system slowing down, and now my network speeds are way down. I'm down to 12 mbps down and 6 mbps up on the high end, on the low end 6 mbps down and 8 up. When I switched to wif my phone stopped have issues, and my speed test showed 26 down and 5 up. This makes me think VZW is throttling me. If they are, is there any way to get around it?
Thanks,
collegencmc

Not sure. I'm on Verizon ULD. Houston is saturated. Running 24 down and 2 up. Actually surprised me. I'm still stock Z before stagefright. Only get band 13. Have never seen AWS.
Verizon doesn't throttle

Hello guys,
I just noticed my LTE speeds were horrible (2.24 M/b download/2.03 M/b upload via internet speed test). My coworker who is using a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 on Verizon is achieving speeds well over 20 M/b. Neither of us are connected to WIFI. I tried to do some research to see if anyone else was having the same issue but haven't found anything on it yet. I got really good speeds on my S6 before the upgrade. I tried to phone in with Verizon's tech support and they weren't much help. I'm wondering if this might have anything to do with the DQA pop-up errors. Hoping an update would fix it but just wanted to isolate the issue if it's software or hardware-related.
Has anyone experience similar issues?

I am not using verizon network but i am using a verizon s8 on a different network and already using the latest update. i am able to get 37Mbps for download and 27Mbps Upload speed on my company so i dont think your problems are related to the update but to verizon itself

Anybody on Verizon able to check if their LTE speeds have been bad? I could just rule out that I am in bad area but since I have other coworkers getting better speeds just trying the diagnose the problem.
Thank you all,
Thought the dqa is for wifi only
I'd say they're pretty damn good on this phone.
47mb down
20mb up
in KS, testing a Dallas server on speedof.me
Sometimes, this is due to a bad sim. Did you get a new sim for the S8?

Who do you use on your Verizon S8? I am using at&t but can't get LTE connection to stick. I boot the phone, I have LTE for 2 minutes and then back to HSPA+
Wondering if you are on at&t as well?
Thanks

I am using ATT but in Mexico and here ATT only use band 4 and 5 so i dont have any issue. I use ATT (roaming) every time I am there and I do notice that with my old phone (HTC 10) in my area this phone was constantly using band 30 and 4 and changing between them, so after I changed to the verizon s8 I lost band 30 and i was only able to connect using band 4 hence some times i was losing my LTE.
You should do the test with your old phone and LTE discovery and see what bands are you using most of the time and see if your verizon phone have them or not.
I am also having this issue after the update. Slow LTE speeds even when I am in line of site of a tower.
