I assume that others are having this issue, and wondering if there is some fix I may be missing short of turning off location services (find them helpful and don't feel I should have to cripple my device for battery savings). I believe it is linked to it using WiFi networks to search for my location, although my WiFi is toggled off. This across all ROMs I have tried, though randomly it doesnt happen but always returns.
Thought it would be helpful to have a place to have open discussion on this issue and see others impressions.
Thoughts, suggestions, fixes?

1. Settings > WiFi > Advanced > WiFi Scanning Always Available (disable)
2. Settings > Location > Google Location Reporting > Off,off
3. Use App Ops (built into roms known as "Privacy Guard") and go to Google Play Services and deny permission to Keep Awake (Read more, http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-google-play-services-battery-t2832525 )
Why thank you!! I have done this, and will see how it goes. GPS wasn't in privacy guard within SlimLP but accessed it from settings>apps>all>google play services>permissions>modify

When you go into Privacy Guard, go to Menu (top right) and enable Show Built-in apps or something similar to that. Then you'll see GPS in Privacy Guard
Indeed!! Thanks boss [emoji106]
How do I do this with stock 5.0.1 / rooted
I really hate to bring this thread back to life and I apologize for that but I'm suffering from this bug and it's nasty. I'm barely getting 2h of SoT while other dudes are getting 3~5h of SoT. I did what this thread said and after tweaking with app ops freaking Google Play Services is going nuts crashing every 2 seconds, sometimes one right after another with that annoying message making the phone unusable. I'm on Pure Nexus 5.1.1, no CPU tweaks nor kernel mods. As far as I go with battery related apps/tweaks is greenify. Any ideas?
Did you make a backup before applying any changes in privacy guard? Have you reverted the changes you made back to the default? Also, try going to settings - applications and clearing data for Google play services

Much Needed One Bro :good:
Does anyone know what they are actually doing with this.
Website doesn't exist, there's no details on what it is or does.
Just some random promotions on a couple of forums.
Suspicious head on suggests this might be suspicious., I haven't downloaded it to rip apart yet, but I wouldn't rely on the word of a developer who says "this won't harm your device " as a product description

You should try Wakelock Terminator, if you've got xposed.
Quoted from Reddit:
I know a great fix, if this can get to the top it will help a lot of people. It requires the Xposed framework and the module Wakelock Terminator. The free version lets you block 1 app, and that's all we need. Open up Wakelock Terminator, choose to block Google Play services, and filter it with the following: NlpCollectorWakeLock NlpWakeLock CheckinService NetworkLocationLocator
My Google Play Services and whatever else alias it is called went down by a ton, no effect on Google Now. Here's a screenshot of the Wakelock terminator app so you can see what it should look like.

Basically this just disallows it to keep the phone awake while still keeping the functions.
If you don't care about the functions (all these 'location' functions) then you could also get this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.wq.disableservice - go to 'Google Play Services' and turn off the servces that keeps a wakelock.
anyone going to "approve" this?
So in that way we must choose batery drain or localization ?
testing now... ty bro
is it really working?
I dont know anything about codes nor trying to bash this developer, but the some google play reviewers state they have gone through the codes and it is nothing but a scam......

Hi there, I have been struggling from terrible battery life for a long time. Even calibration didn't make any changes. So today I bought a brand new battery and calibrated it but it didn't work very well.
Here are the statistics:

Don't believe in battery calibration. It's a hoax. When turning on all lights and power consumers at home 24/7 the power bill usually get large numbers.
Focus on active/running apps and features you seldom or never use. They are sucking the battery and keeping the phone awake.
Ask your self - do I need GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth on always, Email check inbox each 15min, Calendar and background sync, Social forum updates Tw** Fa** Sna** anytime?
Enable when YOU need them, else off.
Android KitKat 4.4.x allow you to deactivate many apps without un-install.
This category of apps is usually called bloatware - the ones Samsung decided you must have but never use.

Thanks for your reply. But, I have even bought Greenify and I rarely use those battery-draining features of the phone.
Mine's been doing that for a while now too. It's always 'Android OS' and 'Android System' taking the top 2 spots in the battery stats. I've just gotten used to always keeping it on the charger.
Hi everyone
I have a weird problem, when I'm using my phone and let's say on Instagram sometimes when i refresh the feed it's just doesn't.. i doesn't say you don't have internet connection it just won't load the new posts and keeps the loading indicator rotating
Another app is Spotify when it's randomly playing songs that haven't being played before (not cached) it's stops suddenly of loading the next song and resumes after a couple of minutes
Same problem with tinder not loading the incoming messages
Only can be solved by disconnecting and reconnecting WIFI or using cellular data
My phone is fully stock with the least official update
I've checked:
Background restrictions.
When Spotify or Instagram stuck I swhich to another app say YouTube and it's perfectly working and loading, going back to Instagram and it's still stuck and not loading.
WiFi router is not far away from me so the Signal is strong.
Do you have any idea how can I solve this without resetting the phone ?
Thanks
Did it start with csd1 update?
Thanks for the reply
I actually don't remember but here's the version I'm on now
Current version: N960FXXS2CSBA/N960FOXM2CSA2/N960FXXU2CRLT
Having same issue. One UI. Has been an issue since latest update.

In Android Pie v9.0 in app settings you can turn off battery optimization and it should prevent the app from being put to sleep. Maybe this may help. Or if wifi data saver is turned on this can cause issues also. There is one other menu/screen that allows you to change settings of when/why/which apps and how they are controlled by Android to save power and allows apps to be put to sleep after a certain amount of app unused time, or when it predicts that you are not normally using a particular app at a particular time. I cant seem to recall where I saw it or how I got to it but if I track it down I'll be sure to post the info because I think it may be a likely cause or fix for your issue. Only other thing I could figure it could be the modem firmware that your on is buggy and hopefully it will be fixed in a future update.

Here is what I was looking for. You go to settings>device care>tap on battery>tap three dots top right>tap settings. In there is some stuff that may help with your issue.
Thanks for the reply, I've actually already done that I've disabled all the settings related with putting apps to sleep at device care/battery which doesn't solve the issue
Yet i still have to try un-optimizing the apps surly this would lead to battery drain but let's see what happens.
I'll keep you updated with the results
So I have disabled all of power efficiency related settings in device care/battery section
And also disabled doze optimization for the effected
İ can say it's a lot better now but the issue still occurs

I've turn off GPS and even in apps turn of request for location . After that i saw that was so low . I turn off synchr. without gmail . Was better but still too much..
I read in reddit that google app service is normal. But others apps request information and data from google so google app service is working and use battery. So after that I uninstall all apps that i do not use it. Apps that i cannot uninstall just turn off it. For now i charge to full battery and watching resoults .
I had the same issue and found out it was two of my apps - MicroG and a VPN app. When I use VPN on mobile data, battery usage reads it as Google Play Services instead of the VPN app. Same goes for MicroG using a hell lot of background data and logging as Google Play Services. Another is Messenger app - I included it in restricted apps in battery management to reduce usage. Now I'm getting normal battery life.
I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask, but maybe someone can help. I went to add a new app to Magisk Hide and accidentally changed the options for the 'Google Play services' listing. Previously it showed just a '-', meaning that some options were checked and others weren't. What I accidentally did was tap that, so that the circle was filled with nothing. I tapped it again which causes the check mark to show, meaning all options are now checked.
What I'm wanting to know is what are the options checked under that area by default so I can return it to the way it was before. Or is there any negative effect to having all of these options now checked?
Again, apologies if this is the wrong section and thank you to anyone who can provide a quick answer on which to leave checked/unchecked.
com.google.android.gms.unstable
I am also wondering this. Is it bad or will it have a negative impact to put a check mark and enable hide on everything under the Google Play Services in Magisk Hide? I have it at default right now. with only 2 things checked.

Yeah, what happens if I turn all those on in the Google Play Services? What I'm asking is what benefit is there to turning all those options to hide value under Google Play Services? Or does it do no added benefit? Could it possibly mess things up in a negative way?

Play Services will start to act weird, will consume more RAM, might get force stopped, etc.
So tick unstable option
On the newer Magisk Manager releases, if you uncheck the box while it is collapsed (closed) and tick it again, it auto selects the components. If you tick the check while the box is expanded (open) it will tick all the components within it.
But now here's my question. When I did that on older releases for the Google Play Services box, it auto ticked com.google.android.gms.unstable and nothing else. Now on the latest Manager 8.0.7 (on Magisk 21.4) doing so ticks com.google.android.gms and nothing else, not even gms.unstable.
Is this the intended behavior? Should I still select to Hide gms.unstable or leave it alone?
