lol alright
pressing the power button on the side?
Surely it's not a good idea to wake your kaiser up by touching the screen? As soon as you put it in your pocket it'll wake up again? That's why companies make it slightly more complex to unlock the phone...

New 2.X lock screen?

I've noticed that when running the new 2.X lock screen you can also press the menu button to unlock the screen. Is this by design? Is it possible to turn this off? I've noticed that all the 2.x builds have this behavior. I think this defeats the purpose of the lock screen. Any thoughts?
I have been wondering the same thing. I anxiously await an answer. I hope the menu button can be turned off so it won't unlock the phone.

This is all you have to do:
1. Press call/power/menu/home
2.screen should light up when any of the above are pressed
3. now you need to just slide the lock on the screen
You dont have to use menu if you dont want to, its not like they force you to do it like on donut roms.

I'm worried about pocket dialing due to being able to unlock the screen via menu.

while i would also like the ability to disable unlock by pressing the menu button too, what's the likelihood of something in your pocket pressing a button smaller than a paperclip, not even considering it would have to press it twice in the time the screen is on?
you cant necisarly pocket dial on a touch screen phone?? you can turn on the screen but your not going to pocket dial, if your so worried about than turn on the screen timeout
How is that different from 1.x roms? The only option to unlock the phone was to press menu button twice. Now we just have an extra option of doing it from the screen and all of the sudden people are complaining....

The only diff is that you slide to unlock in eclair and have to press menu to unlock on donuts.

i think what he was getting at was that other than the slide to unlock feature, it's exactly the same as the cupcake or donut builds.

[Q] Hold To Boot Power Button On Nexus One

Hi.
Any ideas on how to get the "hold to boot" function back after unlocking a Nexus One?
It's really annoying, that the phone boots by just touching the power button.
If I'm not sure, my phone is off, the only way to check it is by pressing the power button once to get the screen to go on. But if it's off, it starts booting.
Thread moved in Nexus One Q&A.
I know it's not what you've asked for, but one way around it would be to use CPUStatusLED. That way if the LED is not ON, you know the phone is OFF
Um... even stock there's no "hold to boot" function. Simply tapping the power button will turn it on.

Actually, you're wrong. A stock, non-rooted, "locked" one requires you to hold the power button for a while to boot. It's when you unlock the phone with fastboot "oem unlock" when it changes.

Does it eat up battery too much?
Dunno about yours but when it was stock, mine just turned on pushing the power button
A workaround could be, enabling your phone to wake using the trackball. You could check that way

This was how YOURS behaved, or you know this for a fact? I know my N1 starts up with just a press.
I rarely turn it off, however....

The reason I always press the power button, is because I got used to confirm the phone was off, prior rooting. I bought a non carrier one, maybe the carrier versions are different.
I tried the trackball method, but I keep pressing it accidentally on my pocket.
I'm tring the CPU LED one now.
But I would actually prefer one, that just blinks a blue light every few seconds.
Has anyone created one to do that?
Oh, and thanks for the suggestions.

Well, mine did. As well as my old ADP1 did prior rooting.
Mine never worked like that when it was stock and locked. One single, fast press and it booted.
CPU statusled is probably a good solution, or just trackball wake.
Well mine was unlocked as soon as i removed it from the charger, but i dont remember longpressing. Anw, i will have to agree with trackball wake

[Q] Red Trackball When Powering On

Tried powering on the phone but the only thing that happens is the trackball turns on and glows red.
*Found out that the phone does turn on but the screen is just blank.
**Update - Flashed a new rom and now the screen is visible but have a problem with the trackball led staying on while the phone screen is on. When I press the power button to lock the phone the led turns off.
Someone help please
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
kind regards
Most likely it's a HW problem in your trackball, doesn't have anything to do with ROMs you flash. This problem isn't very common, but it occurs, and you can find documentation on it in the forum.
Not a HW problem
Can't be a HW problem, make sure you do a full wipe and then try the new MeDroid 1.4.2...

[Q] How to disable capacitive home/back button from waking device

I just noticed that by pressing the home button when the display is off, wakes up the device and turns the screen on.
I tried looking for an option to disable that but I could not find it. Is there such an option ?

It shouldn't wake screen unless you have a custom rom or kernel installed
