Hey everyone,
When my phone is rebooting AND plugged into my computer, my WIndows 7 laptop begins to install the MTP Device Driver, but fails, since the device boots and hence becomes recognized by other drivers. Is there a work around for getting this MTP driver to install? I currently cannot send any file to my phone if its not a media file, which is strange. I believe most of issues are around this damn MTP driver issue.

Ignore it, its nothing to worry about, mine does the the same thing if I have it plugged into the computer whilst its booting.
As for drivers, it should say MyHTC in device manager under Android devices, see images below, I get these drivers by installing HTC sync manager and then un-installing Sync, just leaving the driver package, just make sure your device is unplugged when installing drivers and then plug in after installation is complete, if you having driver issues, you will have to remove old / dead drivers first, these HTC drivers always work for me no matter which OS im booting, Windows 7 and 8.1 64bit dual boot.
The first picture is whilst the phone is booting, and the 2nd is finished booting.

ok. so I recently started using a different computer, it's windows vista. when I go to download mode, and plug the phone in the computer just says "usb device not recognized". I've got the latest drivers, and tried uninstalling then reinstalling again. any ideas as to what is going on?

I've tried front and back usb ports,

Try uninstall again.
Dl usb drivers but dont install. Save them to desktop
Plug in phone
Unknown device pops up, click on message. Click install custom drivers, navigate to where you saved uninstalled drivers are. Select
This has worked for some
CM7
Ok I uninstalled any versions of the drivers, when I plugged in my phone, the computer said unknown device as usual but it is automatically installing an "unknown device" driver. When I went to select the driver manually for it, it told me that there was no need to update and it didn't give me another option.
I should probably mention that originally, the computer recognized my internal sdcard when i mounted it. Now it isn't, and it won't recognize it in any mode.

what rom are you using now? does the driver you installed came from the stock eclair or froyo. I get the same message after flashing from stock to custom roms. I just plug my phone again and the pc automatically searches and installs driver from gt i900 driver. My old PC is running win xp with android sdk manager in it aside from the kies mini it has which already has the samsung drivers which supports stock roms.
definitely wrong drivers...If your computer recognize it in normal mode as in to mount internal sd card, but says unknown device in download mode than try to download USB drivers from somewhere else...
I have noticed this that drivers from samsung website doesnt support the download mode...I have faced this problem...mine would ask for gadget serial..so i use this drivers...http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x86.shtml
Hope this helps
I'm running perception 10.4. I've tried several different download sources, and it doesn't read when I mount the sd card anymore. On my windows 7 computer it worked no matter what rom I had, and I didn't have to change drivers at all. I'll try that link and see what happens
Still won't work...
This happens to me all the time when attempting to flash back to stock. What I do is just keep doing battery pulls and switching usb ports. Eventually, it works!

lol How long will that usually take until it works..
I've tried pulling the battery and switching ports at least 15 times.. nothing happens. windows installs an "unknown driver" automatically, and if I choose the galaxy s drivers for it, it says the driver isn't compatible for my device. It's not even recognizing it's a phone, or a mass storage device, or any other usb device it can be.
Unknown Device
Was this ever resolved? I have the same problem. Unknown Device in Download Mode. ADB works, PC recognizes phone in normal mode.
The phone shows up in Device Manager when in normal mode. If I use ADB to reboot download, the PC immediately drops the phone and displays unknown device in device manager.
Have tried complete uninstall/reinstall of drivers including regedit. NO JOY.
Running XP SP3. Any ideas?
after upgrading to gingerbread my pc thinks it is an i9000.
try those drivers.
i have no issues though.
Hey guys !
For some days my One just won't be recognized by my computer anymore. I neither changed anything on my computer nor on the smartphone. It's currently running ARHD 7.2 and my computer is on windows 7 Pro x64.
I already tried reinstalling HTC Sync Manager, completely removing the drivers using the device manager and I even tried installing several standalone drivers provided in the forums here at xda. Switching USB ports and USB-Debugging didn't improve anything, too.
Windows explorer just shows the HTC Sync Manager install disc but not the MTP Device, the driver install wizard says everytime i plug the phone in that the installation of an HTC MTP Device wasn't successful.
Also in the device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark on the device entry and it says that the device doesn't work correctly because Windows couldn't load the required drivers for the device. (Error code 31) (Free translation from german )
HTC Sync Manager even shows that there is an HTC One connected but i can't sync it and it doesnt show the device capacity.
The weird thing is that also the One X of my girlfriend isnt recognized by the computer, but on her computer running windows 8 x64, both devices are working correctly.
Thanks in advance
Have you turned on usb debugging
Tried both with and without usb-debugging on, but didn't change anything
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191279
Turn on usb debugging and change the cable that can work here is the link for drivers if it don't work
Even with the drivers from this thread, another cable and usb debugging on, it just doesnt work.
Strangely the phone is recognized at myphoneexplorer and I also can copy data from there, but I don't see my phone in windows explorer

Sounds like you have another driver in the system that is being used and not letting the computer load the HTC driver you need to copy stuff. Not to bad to fix.
Plug the phone into the computer.
First get to device manager. Control Panel/System/Device manager (right side)
Find the device the ONE is listed as should be toward the bottom under USB might have a yellow triangle on it. Right click on this device and go to uninstall. Make sure to select to delete everything (little check box) and after it finishes restart the computer. Unplug the phone and then install the HTC drivers linked above. Plug phone in and pray. If it doesn't work after that try another reset and if still nothing let us know.
I prayed like hell and still it doesn't work
Although I uninstalled the old drivers correctly, restarted my system and installed the new htc drivers, it still tries to install another driver when plugging in my phone.
USB Debug is turned on, and my antivir is deactivated, I'm really running out of ideas what to do next....

On another computer both phones work without any problems. That is whats so strange about it, just on this computer it doesn't work. Unfortunately this is an important computer and I cant restore it...
Ive had this issue for a few weeks now and its finally got my attention because i cant load any custom roms into storage.
Whenever i plug my phone into a computer, it will charge fine, but wont connect and show storage. It doesnt show up in device manager and usb debugging doesnt activate. Im using windows 8 and i did notice an error pop up telling me that the usb device is not recognized and has malfunctioned.
Oh, and im running ARHD 12.1

yeah. i had everything working fine for months before. im checking to see if its an issue with the rom. i think it first started after i installed the version that im on.
If you plug your phone in via USB, to see the internal memory, your phone needs to be unloacked. Will will come up with a warning on the the phone.
Steve
Im starting to think this is a hardware problem.
I reverted to stock and the issue is still there. Im now noticing that it shows up in device manager occasionally as an unknown device. It appears to connect and disconnect over and over on its own. Sometimes it will stay connected for a few minutes and i would try to update the drivers manually but it would say no drivers found. Windows also reports that "my device may have malfunctioned". I know that all my storage is still in tact though, so i guess its just something wrong with the usb controller?
Thank goodness for wifi file transfer or i'd have no access to my storage. But im concerned that i may be stuck if i ever need to adb or fastboot...crap!
Delete pls wrong thread
Got my phone about a week ago & got pretty bored of it so I wanted to root it and get a different ROM going. For some reason, I can't get the phone to connect to HTC Sync Manager though I updated the drivers. Any time the phone is switched into USB debugging, My HTC drivers fail to install. I have no idea how to solve this problem. Also when trying to get the Token ID using the command prompt, the device doesn't show up after using the command adb devices either. Need help please.
In bootloader you should type fastboot devices not adb devices.
You can try this to get the drivers installed correctly
On your PC go to device manager and find your phone(usually M7WLS), right click and select properties
Select the driver tab
Select update driver
Select browse my comp
Let me pick
Look for ADB USB device or similar should be one of the first couple choices
Select MyHTC install and you should be good
Also try these drivers http://d-h.st/FXC

If the phone doesn't have USB debugging enabled, it doesn't appear in the device manager besides under portable devices. Once USB debugging is turned on, Android devices tab appears at the top but the drop down reads My HTC with the yellow triangle with ! on the inside indicating there's some sort of issue. I tried updating the drivers, uninstalling the drivers, restarting the phone and computer, then reinstalling the drivers but nothing has worked thus far. HTC Sync still isn't detecting the phone at all and I can't get the Token ID to continue the rooting process until the device is able to be detected.

Strangely enough, I literally just tried it on a different computer and everything worked exactly as it was supposed to. I had 3 computers in my home, none of which worked but got to work and the laptop they gave me worked just fine. Then I got on my gf's Mac and it went mostly smooth (even though it was difficult not being as familiar with the OS). My advice is do everything you're doing on a different computer until you see it without the ! in the device manager.

My experience may be helpful. I had no ADB driver, but Composite USB seemed to work. However, the driver install crashed. I needed to open my phone and answer the dialogs on my phone while the driver was installing. After that, everything is hunky-dorry (I know, showing my age).
I was having the same problem until I UNCHECKED the USB debugging mode and reconnected the phone to the computer. Drivers reinstalled and HTC Sync Manager (not HTC Sync--different program) recognized the phone. I had to answer dialogue on phone and then the USB debugging mode status changed itself to enabled. It's all working now, after hours of fiddling.
IS anybody else having issue when trying connect Nexus 6 to Win 8.1 computer via MTP-mode? My laptop isn't reconizing and i'm sure that i have drivers installed. I know that this is common problem (also with OnePlus One). It's working with PTP mode but not MTP mode. So i want to know if someone have solutions to this?

Did you try it with USB Debugging off?
I ran into this with Win7, the instant i unchecked USB Debugging, MTP fired up working.
Haven't had a problem yet. I plugged mine into my computer when I got it and the phone connected almost immediately. Already had the sdk manager installed but I don't believe I installed any other drivers. I also have usb debugging turned on. Have you looked under device management to see if there are any yellow exclamation marks showing up for your nexus 6.
yes i had this happen, the solution for me was the delete the samsung ADB driver (think it was called that) in the device manager, unplug the phone, give it 30 secs then plug back in. worked after that.

That worked almost. Difference was that it was named Google ADB Driver. I deleted that, unplugged and plugged again and it installed drivers again so it was some drivers issue, not sure why. But if someone have samething just try that.
good to know it worked. it was the google ADB driver, not samsung !
