When I open a hangouts convo from the active notification, the conversation sometimes scrolls all the way to the top and I need to manually scroll down. Has anyone else had this issue?
Yeah I have it too on the T-Mobile pure edition on lollipop ...I think its just a bug with the recent update so I guess we just have to wait for google to push a fix out
Sigh... it is getting quite annoying. Especially with the longer conversations.
I am seeing this as well running the retail/tmobile 5.0 lollipop, seems to have been a bug added in the last update to Hangouts, or possibly the previous update.
I have this on my nexus 4, 7 and moto x and have since 2.3 of hangouts. Its not a moto x bug.

So i guess it is a hangouts bug then... Any way around it for people? Or do I just have to delete the conversation once it gets too long....

I just came from a GSIII and picked up a Verizon Moto X, and I noticed that when someone includes me in a group sms, I don't see the other recipients; it appears as if the sender just sent me a personal text. At first I though it was a bug in Handcent (it's been really buggy lately), but the same thing is happening in the stock messenger. As much as I hated touchwiz on my GSIII, it was nice to be able to recognize when you receive a group text and see who the other recipients are. Is this a bug, or just a "feature" of stock android? Is it fixable? I'm not rooted yet, but will get around to it soon. Thanks.

Nobody else is having this issue?
Works fine for me. Just make sure u have group mms checked in the message settings for the stock app and or handcent
I am having the same issue. What is odd, is that my girlfriend has a Moto X too (On verizon) and hers works the way it should when she sends/receives a group message. The only difference was she ordered hers a week later and it came with Kitkat, I had to update mine myself.
For both the messaging or hangouts SMS app there is a setting for "Group Messaging". Make sure that's checked.

It has been checked the whole time.
I'm not sure if this is a moto X specific thing, but I've not had this problem on my previous phones.
So I noticed when I send a MMS to a friend (i'm on t-mobile , he's also on t-mobile with an htc one though i'm doubing that matter) he says it will say the image is too big and can't be sent or something like that. or that it can't be received.
I google about this a bit, and i saw a little bit of talk of it being a bug in the phone, and that you can't send MMS when on wifi but it would work when not on wifi (not sure how that makes any sense either). I saw some other posts about how if you send a message attached via gmail THEN send an MMS then MMS would start working , which also makes no sense to me as that seems so unrelated.
So previous to this phone i had a droid razr m (was on verizon before and even unlocked it for t-mobile for a bit) and i remember on that phone, when i sent an mms, sometimes the phone would say somethign like "this image will be resized before sending". the moto X never says that so is that a bug in the moto x? since i know that is an MMS size limit, but this phone never seems to prompt to resize.
anyway has anyone else had this issue?

YES, I have the same issue as well! Finally I found someone else that has the same problem as me haha.
When I first got my Moto X it worked just fine but recently I tried sending pictures to friends who also have T-Mobile and they all say that they can't see the picture because it says it is "too big", so along the same lines as the problem that you're having.
I going to call T-Mobile tomorrow and see if its maybe something on their side because when I check the details of the picture/message I sent, the size of the picture is under 1000KB (1000KB = 1MB which is the limit for sending MMS through T-Mobile, anything over 1MB gets stopped on their network).
Quick update:
I called T-Mobile an a representative told me that there were two ways of sending an MMS, specifically a picture, with the Moto X:
1. Stock Messaging App > Thread > Attach(Paper Clip icon) > Pictures. Then you select a picture from your gallery
2. Stock Messaging App > Thread > Attach(Paper Clip icon) > Capture Picture.
With the representative on the line, we tried both ways and figured out that option 1. works while 2. does not.
The conclusion that we came to is that if you capture a picture immediately, then it takes a full size picture and DOES NOT re-size it for MMS at all. HOWEVER, if you take a picture beforehand and then add it to a message from the gallery, it DOES re-size it.
I plan to call Motorola tomorrow and tell them about this issue so that hopefully they can either send out a fix or add it to an overall OTA update.
Hopefully I can contribute something to this forum haha

Same issue here. I am using the stock messaging app. I am on Verizon and am having trouble sending to T-Mobile. Haven't tried to other Verizon phones yet. I tried it over hangouts and had no issues, but then again Hangouts is using wifi.. Please let me know if you guys figure this one out!

Eh, I've tried that and GO sms app and multiple other ones back when I had a Samsung Mesmerize. Maybe that's why I grew favor to the stock AOSP app compared to the Samsung and other third party apps. O well.
Quick troubleshooting update: Ever since we got the update to Kit Kat and the introduction of using Hangouts to SMS, I've stayed with the stock app instead of Hangouts just because I like it better. However, I will switch to Hangouts just to see if I can send pictures successfully through that. Crossing my fingers this will work and will report back if anything improves
P.S. sorry for the long absence; I've been busy with school and haven't had time to post
Hey guys, I have come back baring good things.
So I've been using Hangouts for a couple of days and MMS and picture messaging works. I can send a picture to any T-Mobile number and they can download it and view it .
The only problem that I have experienced is that sometimes I get double-texts from a friend (but that can just be due to a faulty BlackBerry ;P).
Looks like Hangouts is the way to go for now

I've read the same issue in another thread. and the 2 fixes you mentioned came up:
1. people saying using hangouts fixes the issue
2. People saying attaching to MMS works and capturing a photo doesn't.
It's a bug with the Kit-Kat AOSP messaging apk. Other phones have this issue as well. I'm assuming that Google removed the picture compression code in an effort to get people to use Hangouts for SMS/MMS as Hangouts will compress down the pic w/o notifying you.

same issue in Hangouts running the pre-installed and latest version. Also you need evidence to back that up if it's really a known bug and not a rumor.

If that is so, it would make sense and would make me mad at Google

Just a quick update:
I've been using Hangouts for a quite a while now and have not had a problem since. I have nothing against Hangouts but I would like to have a dedicated MMS/SMS application because I don't really want Hangouts to be checking for messages ever so often.
I have unlimited MMS/SMS and no unlimited data anyways
Problem: I have two exchange email accounts that I cannot swipe away from active notifications. I can swipe them away but they reappear shortly after. This does not occur with my gmail notifications.
I think I know what the problem is tied to but I cannot find a workaround or solution. I am using the exchange security bypass email apk. Its basically the stock email apk but with hacks so you don't have to set up security. I have had this problem 4.2.2 running the same apk. with eclipse rom based on 4.2.2. and now with eclipse based on 4.4.2. I am no longer using the email i used earlier from an xda thread because nitro put in his own email apk with security hack built in.
I have searched a lot and haven't found anything. I know that 4.4 had problems with exchange giving multiple notifications on nexus devices and others but I don't get multiple notifications on my notification bar, only on the active display.
Currently i have to unlock the phone and remove the email notification from my noti bar for it to stop showing up repeatedly in active notifications. I'm hoping there is a simple solution that i have just not found or a thread i couldn't find. I assure you that i searched for a long while on google and xda and other forums looking for answers and didn't find anything.
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Vzw dev unlocked rooted eclipse 3.2.1 (most current version) stock kernel.

Well at least I know its not just me Now. I haven't found anyone else talking about it and its such a pita to deal with that I thought it might just be something weird with my set up

Glad to hear I'm not alone here either. I'm using the stock email app (no security hack) and the notifications come back after dismissing. I thought there were a couple times that they went away after dismissing a few times, but I haven't been able to reproduce that in any consistent fashion.
Love to hear if anybody has a fix for this though.

I have never actually dismissed it that many times because I get pissed but I did read reports of stock email app on nexus giving multiple notifications for an email in the bar even after they swiped away the notification. Maybe they fixed that issue for them but it didn't fix active notification issues. If more people report it with the stock email app then maybe I'll try to talk to moto about the issue. It just doesn't seem like it is possible that its that wide spread and not really anyone has complained yet.

Here's a potential resolution/workaround. I just came across AcDisplay (also available in the Play store), which adds some great features to the Active Display and seems to fully dismiss the Exchange notifications. I just started using it today based on a recommendation from a friend that also has an X and so far so good.
Anyone having this issue? When I receive a text, I swipe up to go directly to hangouts and after I type in my pin to unlock, it'll take me to the hangouts app, but I'll have to scroll down through hundreds of texts before I get to the one that was just sent to me. This started happening after the latest update of hangouts. Tried clearing data/cache and rebooting, but it didn't work.
I've got the same. I only started noticing after I'd updated to lollipop though. If I go to the normal unlock, then hangouts, it takes me straight to the message...
Same here. A work around is opening hangouts directly and not through the notification.
Yup. Same thing and it is annoying as hell. Like mentioned before, going directly to Hangouts works, but it also negates the point of the shortcut from notification shade or lockscreen. The other thing that works is to just type your response and send it. It jumps to the bottom after you hit send. No good if you didn't get to read the sender's whole message, but if you already read it on the lockscreen or wherever and know your response it works.
Yea, noticed all those things after a while. I assume it's a hangouts issue and not Motorola's issue? Because it was working as intended until the recent hangouts update...
I don't think this has anything to do with the moto x. It happens on my nexus 4 and nexus 7 and started whenever the completely revamped hangouts a few months ago.
Sent from my XT1095 using XDA Free mobile app
Whenever I open a Hangouts message from the active notifications on my Moto X, it automatically scrolls to the very top of the thread. This is for Hangouts messages and SMS messages inside the Hangouts app. I then have to manually scroll all the way down. It appears to happen sometimes when I get a message while the phone is unlocked, but every time when the phone is locked and I click the active notification. Has anyone else encountered this problem and/or found a solution? Is there a shortcut to auto-scroll back to the bottom?
I searched Google, and all I can find are tons of threads about Hangouts messages from the computer loading one by one in the thread on the phone app, requiring scrolling down to load each one. This is not the problem I am having, and the solutions offered (such as changing animation settings in developer options) do not fix my problem. I'm posting in the Moto X-specific forum because this is only happening to me on my Moto X 2014. I'm running 5.0 stock unrooted. I was not having this problem on my GS5 on stock unrooted 4.4.4 yesterday, my Nexus 7 on AOSPA 5 last week, or my Nexus 9 on AOSPA 5 today. This leads me to believe it is a Moto X-specific or stock 5.0-specific problem rather than a Hangouts-general problem.
I have the same issue also. It's not a moto x problem
I have found that if I back out of the thread then re-enter it, it starts me off back at the bottom. It's not ideal, but it works for now.
I've had that issue on my Moto X 2013 running 4.4.4. It's not a specific problem to the Moto X 2014. Can't tell you if it is happening on my Moto X 2014 since I had switched a few months ago to Google's Message app.

Do you not use Hangouts at all anymore? Because it is happening to me with Hangouts messages and SMS, so even if I switch apps, I still have to deal with it happening with Hangouts messages. And I have tested it several different ways on my Nexus 9 and cannot replicate the problem.

Yup. I stopped using hangouts. I just could not stand the UI.
My lady and I use hangouts to chat at work, so we use hangouts pretty much exclusively for seamless conversion when we are away from the computer or on our tablets, so I'm a slave to hangouts.
We just need an update for hangouts

But is it a Hangouts issue or a Moto X issue? I can't find any threads or anything about it on Google, and I have not experienced it on any other device. Dark experienced it on Moto X 2013, and it happens 100% of the time I open from active notifications, so I think the issue lies with active notifications.
I can confirm that this is fixed in 5.1, so just hope that the OTA is not far away
