Is there any way to root the Moto X 2014 pure edition without unlocking the bootloader? I really want to keep my warranty on my device

Not sure if that is possible. But just as important of a question is: Will my warranty be voided on a Pure Edition if I unlock the bootloader?
I have seen posts of people who had no warranty issues with a PE and unlocked bootloader, but nothing official.

Ok so i have been playing with my Moto X for some time now and i have learned a lot about it but as i have been going threw the Q&A and general sections helping out i have read a lot of mixed information
1. unlocking the boot loader.
i have been to Motorola's website and checked for all devices and they give you a complete walk-threw on how to unlock your bootloader for all devices. but i have read in some threads that you can't do it on all devices. so i guess my question is. Is it tru that some carrier devices do not allow you to unlock the bootloader and if so what carries dont allow and what one's do allow.
2. my Sprint Moto X has had a unlocked bootloader from day one. so people who do not have there bootloader unlocked are they still able to use the 4.4 slapmymoto root process.
i am sorry for the questions but i need straight answers because i would like to help anyone who has issues but i don't want to give wrong info and after reading some many post i feel i might have made some mistakes in some of my attempts to help people
It is my understanding that AT&T and Verizon devices cannot unlock the bootloader through the Motorola website.
I have a Verizon Moto X (MotoMaker edition). The bootloader is locked. I used SlapMyMoto 0.5c to gain root on 4.4.
developer edition models for verizon and att/gsm can unlock bootloaders. if it is a dev edition and the bootloader is unlocked you also void your warranty. locked BLs can still be rooted with slapmymoto. that is the only purpose of slapmymoto. if you have an unlocked BL then you would just flash twrp then the superSU.zip (or other SU app of your choice) and have root in minutes.

I do believe Motorola changed their policies concerning developer editions. Unlocking the boot loader no longer voids warranty on those devices

ya my bad. i meant isn't. glad you corrected it though because that could have been confusing for someone.
1. Yes. Retail VZW and ATT moto Xs will, most likely, never have their bootloaders unlocked. Those are the only 2 variants whose bootloaders can't be unlocked. Only Dev edition retain warranty after a bootloader unlock. Simply requesting an unlock code voids your warranty.
2. Yes but you'd be wasting your time. Download your choice of recovery (TWRP or CWMR) and root app (SuperSU or Superuser), flash the recovery, reboot into recovery, flash whateveryourrootappis.zip, reboot system, enjoy root.
Hello XDA Forums, wanted to know if I root my moto x has to take to get back after the warranty and leave no trace of root .. thanks
Depends. If you don't have a dev edition and unlock your bootloader. Warranty is void. Can't reverse that since you need to unlock it on their website.
If you don't unlock your bootloader, you can root with slap my Moto, but there's no root solution yet for 4.4.2. And could possibly not ever be. Technically that method voids your warranty too....but only if they discover you did it. I'm not an expert, cause I'm bootloader unlocked, but I think you can reverse this method. If your phone works and you are able to do it.
So basically , if you root any which way, you lose or risk your warranty.
Unless you have a dev edition, then you're golden.

what model Moto X do you have?
i have the moto x 16gb rom retail... xt1058 ,i live in brazil...
Sorry for the question....i've an xt1052 with stock 4.4.4 and i would root it....i'd want know if there is a way to relock the bootloader and restore the warranty?
Even if you could, you still wouldn't get your warranty back. When you unlock your bootloader through moto's website, your IMEI is sent to them and they know that you've unlocked the BL and your warranty is now void.
Also, relocking the bootloader will give you a "relocked" status. Not locked. So they know anyway.

The xt1052 isn't the developer edition.

There are 3 states for the Moto X bootloader.
1. Locked Status Code 0 (as it ships from the factory)
2. Unlocked Status Code 3 (when the bootloader is unlocked)
3. Locked Status Code 2 (aka RELOCKED, after you use fastboot oem lock)
If the status is Unlocked or Relocked, you'll get the unlocked bootloader warning at boot up. And we do not have a way to toggle back to LOCKED Status Code: 0.
No matter how you unlock your bootloader (Moto Web site, China Middleman, Sunshine app), if your status code is 3 or 2 (unlocked or relocked), then your warranty is void should Moto or your warranty provider see it.
If you got your bootloader unlock code from Moto's web site directly, the official way to unlock, then they likely also have record in their database that your warranty is void.
Some states or countries may have laws that prevent denying the warranty coverage when the claimed failure is not related to unlocking the bootloader (like micro usb port no longer works to charge.)
And for others who may come across this thread... Unlocking the bootloader on a real Dev Edition X does NOT void the warranty. The OP has an XT1052 which is likely a European X, and is not a Dev Edition.
Thanks for the informations :good:
This is really lame from Motorola, I come from a Samsung Galaxy Nexus where this didn't happen..

The X is no Nexus, nor was it supposed to be.
All current "non-Nexus" Samsung phones have a Knox Warranty flag.
Hello
I'm looking to buy a Moto X 2014 on Monday (1st Dec) when Motorola have their £100 off deal. However, I'd like to root the phone, so would like to know if the Moto X 2014 from Motorola UK store have unlocked bootloader? Or does it come with locked bootloader and I need to unlock it from the Motorola website?
Many thanks
Locked bootloader I'm afraid. Unlocking it means getting a code from Motorola's site after agreeing to an explicit all-caps disclaimer about voiding your warranty. You also can't get root by booting straight into a custom recovery without flashing it and leaving the bootloader locked.
I got a fresh Moto X from AT&T with 5.0.1 on it and was wondering if I can downgrade and unlock? Every android I had I enjoyed the comfort of unlocking and rooting. I need that again.

You can't unlock the bootloader of an AT&T Moto X 2014 no matter what version of Android you are running. You need to sell it and buy the Pure Edition if you want to unlock the bootloader.
