[Q] Cannot USB Tether on Ubuntu with Gingerbread

Hi I use to be able to USB tether on Froyo with my Ubuntu natty laptop. Since GB(JVH), the function is still there but tethering fails. I assume it has something to do with the USB settings where you cannot select on connection anymore.
Anny ideas will be greatly appreciated - thanks
syslog states
Unmanaged Device found; state CONNECTED forced.
usb 2-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 19
usb 2-2: bad CDC descriptors
Same here, operating with windows 7, with Froyo it did work well.
For me it looks like a Gingerbread issue.
So the problem exists on Windows
too? I am surprised...
Any idea where to report this so it may get fixed?

Steeldroid question

Id love to post this in the development forum but not enuf posts so... I flashed steeldroid the other day and I love it, especialy with the GB launcher I added. Problem is, I can't get it to come out of charge only mode when hooking to the computer. It never gives me the option in the notification bar. Is there any other way to change it? Anyone have any ideas? I appreciate any help

Try a different cord, usb port, or computer. It sounds like it's not establishing a connection

Tried 3 cables. Charges fine. I have all the current drivers and everything on the computer.

I had a similar problem. My phone would not show it is charging past 95% but it would still increase the charge. I am waiting for the newest update before i dig into it myself.

I've got a similar issue on SD3 v3. I get the connect choices (PC, mass media, media sync, charge only) but i can't get mass media mode to connect on my windows 7 x64 machine. I get the bonk when the computer detects its connected, but don't see anything in device manager. Found a work around at least for the moment, put it in PC mode, and used the moto software, I can get into my internal card.
right, see i dont even get the connect options when i plug in. i am thinking it is something in the rom because it worked fine with the first cable i tried just before i flashed it. i know i could just restore to the nandroid backup of stock and do what i need to do but i dont wanna do that if i dont have to id rather make it work. is there a specific service or apk that controls the usb connect options that i can check?
Are you guys using the cord that came with the phone?
Yes all of my cables are motorola cables. The one i use for the computer is the cable that csme with the D3

One solution for Android device not showing in Windows Explorer

This is a quick tip for people with Windows XP who do not see their USB connected Android device in Explorer.
I had the correct cable, MTP mode enabled, the latest USB drivers and the computer was recognizing my phone as
an MTP device but it wasn't showing in Windows Explorer.
It turns out the problem is that the MTP protocol came after Windows XP so it needs to be installed.
The only way to do that is to install the Windows Media Player 10 or newer.
Was USB debugging enabled? I disabled it and it shower up right away.

This particular problem was there with and without USB Debugging.
I also had trouble installing the driver with USB Debbuging turned on.
My problem is that I had manually disabled Windows Media Player years a go because I hate it that much.
I posted this to give people in my situation the heads-up because it took me forever to figure it out.

[Q]

hi all,
I don't seem to be able to copy anything from my HTC One via the USB cable..
When I connect the device 'usb debugging' is enabled on the phone, and the device shows up in Windows Explorer. If I browse the folder structure, it will hang.
If I connect the phone, wait until 'usb debugging' is enabled, and disable it, the phone reconnects, and I can browse with more success, and even copy a few files, but anything more than a few and it hangs again.
I've tried doing both of these with the HTC Sync app, and guess what.. it hangs. This is the same on two different Windows 8 PCs, with the original HTC cable.
Is there a known working driver or anything that I should be aware of?
Thanks, as always, in advance.
M
Some people have had issues on Windows 8, but not me. Install the latest "HTC Sync Manager". I think the version is something like 2.0.61.
Yeah I tried that. It managed to connect and start syncing, but then hung. Think I'll try the wife's Windows 7 laptop, maybe it doesn't like Windows 8.

It's fine for me. Stay away from USB3 ports.
Its not usb3 either, as my laptop doesn't have any USB3 ports :/

No problems on my laptop (win 7 x64) via usb 2,
Also working with desktop pc , same os and via usb 3.
Would suspect your problem caused by HTC driver

Cannot get note 3 to connect to mbp

I have a mac book pro and parallels installed with windows 7 and I can not get either to connect with the mbp. Any suggestions does not in going on osx and keeps trying to install the drivers on windows with the latest samsung drivers installed. I'm at a lost. First phone I have had this happen with. If you have Kies installed open the .dmg installer and uninstall. Might be the problem. If that doesn't work I would shutdown parallels and see if it will connect to osx.
