No GSM signal but ample of WCDMA... - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

first of all thanks for sharing such useful tut....though it didn't work for me cause I can't enter DIAG mode.
second of all I'm having a little bit of different issue with my Rooted HTC one M7.
My phone recognizes WCDMA signal absolutely fine( 3G data connection is flawless) but it won't detect/recognize GSM signal no matter how many different cell towers I go to. when I switch to "WCDMA" or "GSM/WCDMA auto" mode it receives good signal, but when I switch to "GSM" only mode then it turns out to be "emergency calls only" thing(I tried this with 10 different vendor SIM cards). To make sure my SIM hasn't got any issue I tried it in different phone which did good. I can't say that if it has Hardware issues, but to clear my doubt I went to Authorized HTC service center. The front desk engineer guy took my phone to the technician and came back in a minute and told me that motherboard needs to be replaced (can they really diagnose phone's H/W in a minute?? also my phone's rooted and 18months old so no warranty). That MB thing costs around 80% of mobile's current market price so I came back with faulty HTC one m7 in my pocket. And here I am... I thought I would ask some experts in this community to give it a try on software side otherwise the phone is already 90% useless as there no coverage to WCDMA in my house.
Now you may be thinking that it is Service Provider's coverage issue, but hey I tried using my SIM into two other phones at the same place. Out of which one was "Nokia Lumia 820" and the other one was 6 year old "Nokia 1110"(though it doesn't support micro SIM, I inserted it carefully to make proper copper contacts) and my SIM worked fine with GSM signal in both the phones, as of course 1110 works only with GSM.
I can't believe I'm having this weird issue and now I can't rely on HTC's service centers. So any help is gonna be really useful.
I appreciate your time to read this and thanks in advance.
Have good time ahead.

Have you tried adding the APNS as you were advised?

Yes, I did try adding different APN's. No success.

Yes, yes I did try that.
With losing all the hope in my phone, finally today I handed over my phone to a local technician for looking over Hardware side issues.
@zelendel, thank you for your kind suggestion and I appreciate your concern in this matter.
wish you a very good time ahead.

H --> 3G --> E --> nothing! help!

So, I've lived in an area with just EDGE and my TyTN II for a year now without probs. I've changed the ROMs after using HardSPL from Olipro, etc. without probs. I went over the weekend to Ft. Lauderdale, which is a 3G area, and my phone went crazy. It first shows an H with full strength... then when I try to make a call, it either won't connect or the signal goes completely dead. Other times if I just watch it, it will switch between H, 3G, E, and even G. Sometimes it'll even lose the signal altogether. What is going on?!? I've tried different radios (1.65.20.29 with WM6.1, 1.27.12.11 WM6.0, etc.) and they all do the same thing.
Interestingly, if I go to phone settings and change my band detection things from Auto to GSM and the data to 4 U.S. GSM frequencies, it goes right to Edge and all phone calls go through fine (but now I don't have 3G/H data)
Any ideas guys?
Funny, I have the opposite problem. Live in 3G. Two months ago I went to an area that doesn't have 3g. The G icon popped on my phone for the first time ever. It switched betweeen E and G constantly. The phone dropped calls constantly. The problem followed me home. The G pops up at my house now. I am still having the drop calls. There is a thread on here about this. Unfortunately, I have not found a solution. I have been calling ATT about it. I had to keep calling to get them to check it out. They say it some software issue with their towers. Don't know but I get $50 credit and 1000 rollover minutes from them
After you flash your ROM you should always do a master reset to ensure you don't run into any problems. Did you flash your ROM with the SIM card in the phone? They say you should take it out of the phone when Flashing.
yeah, i've been flashing all along with the SIM without issue... but of course, I've never gone to a 3G area with the phone until now. Outside of 3G areas, I don't have the problem... I called and asked about any issues in Ft. Lauderdale, and AT&T said there weren't any network issues and to bring in the phone........ of course I have an unlocked TyTN II (not a Tilt) bought from a retailer here (its original CID is DOPOD something), so they wouldn't be helping me much if I brought it in.... argh...
Same problem with my device
I have a stock Kaiser 130 series (T-Mobile Vario III) and the same issue (H->3G->E->Nothing) happened to me after doing a lot of roaming (China, Japan, USA, Europe, ...). First I also thought that this might be a SW issue but no reset, flash, etc. could fix it. These symptoms are also described in a lot of other forums (Google helps ) and the verdict: bring the phone back to the dealer.
In my case: T-Mobile already knew about this problem with the Kaiser and exchanged the motherboard of the phone during warranty....
I'm not sure if this is helpful to you - at least it might save you some time fiddling around...
Yes, this is due to a radio hardware problem in early units, that chimes in after a few months. Mine is at the service center for the same issue right now. No other solution. There are already several threads about that.

Same issue here, WCDMA is broken ("no service" when locking to WCDMA, GSM only when using Auto). It was intermittent for a while but now has kicked in as a full-time UMTS/WCDMA failure. It also cost me $150 in excess data charges as the disconnect/reconnect caused some apps to relogin overnight
It does look like a RMA is the only solution, I'll post if there's another way - I'm going to try debugging the RIL (Radio Interface Layer) to see if I can get any more info out of it.
cheers

Loosing network signal

Hi!
After weeks of flawless function my Xperia can not find my carriers phone network.
I have updated the phone to the new ROM but that does not help.
The phone finds the SIM card and asks for the code.
Strangly it can connect to internet through my carrier (Tele2).
But I can not get a connection to the phone network and make a normal phone call.
Is something wrong with the phone?
NO, cause with another carrier (Telenor) everything works pefect.
Then obviously something is wrong with my carrier (Tele2) or the SIM-card.
NO, cause when I put my Tele2 SIM-card in another device (Ipaq 6515) it works perfect.
The Ipaq is not a 3G-phone. Can that have anything to do with it?
I'm getting lost here, all help is appreciated.
(ORIGINAL MESSAGE
Hi!
After weeks of flawless function my Xperia has started to lose it's phone network.
I notice it after I wake my phone up from stand by mode.
It doesn't help to turn the phone option off and on in Comm manager, but it has sometimes helped turning flight mode on and off.
Other times I had to restart the phone.
This happens a couple of times every day, after long times of not using the phone. I have not been able to trigger this problem, so I don't know what causes it or exactly when it happens.
Strangly it can connect to HDSPA while it has lost the phone network.
I have also experienced som freezes when I'm flipping between the panels to much.
All help is appreciated, thanks.
It would be helpful if you could give us more information.
What ROM are you using
Which carrier you have
etc.

I'm using:
ROM 1.02.936.3
Radioversion 1.06.25.29
The carrier is Swedish Tele2.
In Sweden we have GSM-900 and GSM-1800.
Tele2 also provide me with UMTS and HSDPA.
Today the problem became worse.
Even after repeated soft restarts it refused to find the phone network.
Then I change SIM-card to another carrier and it found the network.
I also tried the SIM-card that's giving me problems in another device. Works fine.
So both SIM-cards works. I'm now gonna go with the new carrier during the day to see if the problem come back.
If anyone have any ideas, please help.

All I can say that Xperia sometimes looks for the signal a bit longer it should IMO,
but I also know that carriers have many many problems usually and they're also often responsible for signal drops in some places too.
I know that 'cos I was talking to my carrier many times about it and learned something about it...
have u tried hard resetting the phone or re-installing the software? ..
if u run the sony update software it will give u the option to re-install your phones software - not sure if that has the same effect as a hard reset ..
probably worth trying

Have you tried disabling 3G/HSDPA?
Chance that you have very poor 3G on your phone, whilst the IPAC is picking up ok 2G.

Thanks for replying.
I disabled HSDPA/HSUPA in the advanced network menu. But it didn't help.
I also tried to choose GSM only in the phone seetings menue. But I could not even change the setting. Just got an error message about not being able to change the network (or something similar).
Is there any other setting that might be worth trying?

Having worked for several phone companies a few years at customer service I know what the procedure is.
-First thing they do is ask you to do a "crosstest", try your SIM in another phone and see if that works.
-You'll tell them that you did that and everything works fine when you use another phone.
-They'll automatically conclude that there's something wrong with your phone (correctly)
-They'll ask you if you could do a hard reset ( You did that too)
-Then maybe they'll try and reset the network (which almost never works)
Basically they'll have no other choice then for you to return it and have them look at the problem / replace your phone.
I don't think we here can help you with your problem
Good luck and keep us posted
Get a new SIM card. I've seen problems like this before, and an updated SIM card solved it.
The best way would be to test your SIM card in a similar phone, the ipaq not being close because it's not even 3G.

I'm so confused right now.
Got my new sim card today, problem remains.
I call the carrier support and after they've looked the IMEI-number up they say that the phone is barred by an external operator. They won't tell me the reason and by what operator.
So I call the other carriers support and after they've done a IMEI-search they say that the phone is not locked in any way, by them or any other operator. After have been talking to Xperia support they come to the same conclusion. The phone is not locked but agree to that something is wrong, with phone or carriers, and they want me to try with a third carrier.
Final
I've handed in my phone to the seller and got another one back instead.
The end
Exact same problem
Howdy folks,
I have the exact same problem: My Xperia has worked fine for a month. Suddenly I can't register with Tele2 network (tried another Tele2 card as well that didn't work) for calling but have access to data channel so I can surf. Got told by the Tele2 support that my phone was fu**ed up. Got pissed off. Tried a sim for another provider (Telenor) that worked. Called the Tele2 support again. They noticed that I have an old (2g) sim, so they will send a new (3g) card to test if that fixes this mess. It should arrive late this week or early the next. Can't wait...
I'll keep you posted in this thread (or, if I should instead have made a new thread, a moderator may spank me and I will do better).

Nope, new sim-card didn't fix it. But I have found at least one other xperia-user with this problem...
bad GSM signal
I have a X1
rom 1.03.931.10
radio 1.10.25.18
protocol version 52.56.25.29W
and since from the start I have bad GSM signal I have like 1-2 lines onli and it go up to 5line but onli from time to time (and then it drops again to 1-2line or none but If Itray to call is working or I get called but I can berly hear them bicose of the bad signal) on O2 network and in T-mobile is the same no mather wher I'm in town or outside of town; I'm in UK
is the phone damaged?? or...
sry for my bad english
My phone does the same thing
My x1 has had no problem with phone function or network. However, from the last week, the signal began to be lost sometimes, and the machine turned off automatically. and finally today, there is no signal at all.
MY SIM card works with other phones, so, I thought it might be software problem, and hard reseted with new rom. However, still no signal. It keeps looking. Does anyone have the same problem, and hopefully, solution?
I´m using my X1i with Tele2 as my service provider, but i don´t have any problems with signalstrength.. Works just fine..

I know I should've introdouced myself first, and that this is a strange first post, but:
HOLY SMOKES!!!
Xperia has FIVE reception bars????!!!!!
I always thought that 3 is the max value, since it only happened once that it went up to three bars, rest of the time it's maximum 2, usually 1.
I am also on Tele2 carrier, in Sweden that is, and since yesterday, I have no reception AT ALL.
Nothing.
Tried turning off 3G(or whatever it's called), nothing happens.
Tested with 3 other cards (one Tele2, one Telenor, one Telia) - all seem to be working okay. Except that the Tele2 one has slightly lower reception than the others.
Tested with 3 other phones as well - iPhone 3GS, Nokia 5800 Xpress Music, HTC Desire. All of them worked perfectly. Full coverage on that super-fast network thingy(the 3G symbol on iPhone).
Internet is just flowing on other phones - but Xperia is just falling behind in the most important section - reception.
Calls get dropped (2/3 of the calls), I must send same message at least 3 times in order to get it sent, Internet is crappy - if there's any at all.
Any kind of guidance is mostly appreciated.
P.S. A bit of those numbers which seem to be important:
Microsoft Windows MobileR 6.1 Professional
CE-OS 5.2.19608 (Build 19608.1.2.60)
ROM-version: 1.05.936.9
ROM-date: 04/19/09
Radioversion: 1.14.25.55
Protocol version: 1.0.11842.32680
Since all of you seem to have problems with one and the same carrier (Tele2) why don't you simply switch to another one? I once had a problem that was very alike the one described here and after several unsuccessful attempts of the carrier to fix it I simply switched to another one and all my problems were gone.

Nexus isn't finding network  Help is needed

My Nexus was on 5.0.41, all working sweet, then it stopped "finding" the network. No update, flashing or anything was done prior to the problem.
I tried a SIM from another provider, but still - the "No Service" is written on screen, and when I try to search for networks, it says "Error searching for networks".
I then tried the following ideas (nothing helped):
- Reflashed the Radio image.
- downgraded the Radio image.
- Upgraded it again.
- Flashed the Stock ROM (unrooted and rooted).
- Flashed CM5053.
All was done with wipes as needed.
Any suggestions will be more than welcomed!
Can the device just get bricked like that? with no reason?
It sometimes identifies the SIM's provider (Orange for example) but always with No Service.
It sounds like your SIM card slot isn't holding the card in tight enough to make full contact... try putting a business card, cut down to size, between the SIM and the phone's frame (note, not the contacts side, but the back side) to force the SIM down onto the reader tighter.
If that does nothing, not sure what to tell you?
it didn't help
I'm Italian and I have the same your problem .. I only work in 2G GSM'...ve tried to see if you do so?
I opened another tread here Forum
You need a new SIM.
I just had this problem on Friday. The SIM some how falls of the network and your provider network will not allow it to reconnect.
I can't remember, but if I am right Orange is owned/owns by T-Mobile. Hence they have the same network.
The puzzling part about this is why it happens. This is the second SIM I have gone through with my N1, I also had one go with my G1, my sister bought that G1 and the SIM went out again. My mom bought her G1 same day as me and hers has died once. My friend has a MT3G and his has died two times now. I find this extremely annoying.
I tried every suggestion on the internet for repairing or troubleshooting a SIM. It is a waste of time. Well, everything short of dropping it in isoproply alcohol to clean the contact.
I tried a 2G and a 3G SIM on mine, and had the same result, so my problem is different.
My device just doesn't register with the network, no matter what provider or SIM generation I choose.
Can I ask for a RMA if I unlocked the bootloader?
I do not know you definitely do not pass it under warranty
Ryan then you say you clean the contacts of the nexus or the sim with isopropyl
Mine is now doing that as well and so far everything that I tried isn't fixing it. I get it to connect briefly with edge and then nothing. I am going to try a new sim tonight after work and see if that helps, otherwise unsure of what to do after that...anybody got any answers or suggestions?
I've been suffering from this... have an RMA coming but I got mine to work. Make sure you also have CDMA preferred on there or whatever the default is. If it says unknown you have to reboot the radio somehow. I pulled my battery, waited 5-10 seconds. Then i went and checked airplane mode on and off. Then i checked the service menu again. I can't remember if i had to pull the battery another time but it came back from "unknown" to cdma preferred. You can also try turning the radio on and off via the service menu. Finally select your radio bands for your region by pressing the menu button under phone information again in the service menu and select radio bands. I'm not sure if automatic is a good or bad idea but it couldn't hurt testing it if you still have some issues even after selecting your region specific bands. After this you should be able to maybe search and register or you may need to turn the radio on and off again via airplane or the service menu. I played around with it alot to get it running again.
Also I'm tmobile usa using the one for t-mobile bands. I'm not sure if CDMA preferred is a world wide setting or if its gsm or something else.. but the bands are specific to your region definitely.

[Q] No service / No sim card

A. Introduction: I had the HTC Desire C working smooth and fine. Then one fine day, I realized that the microphone is not working properly, the person at the other side of phone call would not be able to listen to me unless I'd literally shout over phone. So I gave the phone to the HTC service center because it was under warranty. They changed some parts and handed back the phone to me. But the problem was still there. I again submitted my phone. They changed the same parts again and now the mic was working classic, phone was working smooth.
B. Twist in the scene: Just after few days, I was on my way to home after some work and I noticed that phone had a cross (x) against the signal and when I pulled down the notification thing, it said NO SERVICE. This used to happen a lot of times from then onward. Switching to Flight Mode and then reverting back (OR a restart OR a sim pullout and insert again) would sometimes fix the issue, but only temporarily. Sometimes after reboot, it would say NO SIM CARD, sometimes NO SERVICE and sometimes proper functioning with 2-3 bars.
C. Attempts from my end: I thought that they have messed the sim card slot while assembling my phone back and it is a hardware issue. But I was finding it hard to believe. I tried switching to GSM ONLY, then it would show full bars, but again only temporarily -- later NO SERVICE again.
The same SIM card in other phones (standard Nokia b&w phones aka hammers) shows full bars. And I have tried 3+ sim cards in the HTC, but all say NO SERVICE after sometime, maybe due to some activity (connecting internet) or just randomly on its wish.
I studied about radios(modems/baseband) and found that they are drivers and they also decide when and how to switch between 2G and 3G network etc.
D. Other Information and Background: Many times, when there is NO SERVICE error, when I check the Signal Strength it says -83dBm 15asu, so that is pretty hard to digest. The other times it says 0dBm 99asu, which should be obvious for a NO SERVICE error.
With point number E.2. in this post I have unlocked the bootloader and rooted my phone, installed CWM recovery, took a backup.
E. Options that are/aren't available from my perspective and my doubts:
1. Warranty period is over now, and I do not want to take my phone to the service center.
2. Can flashing a custom rom and radio fix this issue? If yes, direct me to some reliable ROMs for the same. CM10 build#3 (from here) didn't boot.
3. I have a Linux laptop, so options strictly based on Windows PC will not apply.
Has anyone faced similar issue? I found many pages with similar issue, but nowhere was the exact solution/troubleshoot mentioned.
I did have a problem with sim cards. What I tried doing is borrowing a friends sim card to see if it works on my phone. To my relief it worked and meant that my current one just died. So I went to one of the offices of my Phone plan providers and just changed it and it worked. If you can try that and give back results, it would be awesome.
Depending on the age of your SIM card can give those errors but as you stated you tried other SIMS and same occurred so my guess is it's either Hardware or Baseband Software, unless there's a Baseband update or simply reflash same Baseband, if it still persists I'd more suspect Hardware.

I, myself have a lot of sim cards to check this and I have already tried other sim cards. Some cards are not even recognized. Some are being recognized but it says NO SERVICE after sometime. Switching to Flight mode and back or restarting the phone or Going in Testing Mode > turning off radio > and turning it on again, sometimes solves the issue but only temporarily.

Probably. And that's why I installed mini CM10 and flashed the radio with the latest HTC Desire Radio (for CM), but it still says NO SERVICE and the same baseband version as it was saying with the stock ROM. :/
Even though the signal strength is -63dBm 25asu
Can you call or something if it is showing signal strength?

No, I wasn't able to call. And when I would search for a network it would say "Error while searching for networks"
I'm more likely to suspect the actual SIM card holder hardware and not the SIM Card itself or the Baseband (No errors reflashing and other SIM's no different than your own), the fact it's showing signal strengths but you're not getting onto the network suggests RADIO hardware is most likely working along with software but a hardware failure could just be 1 connection to the SIM
Q. Are all other SIM's working in other phones and does your SIM work in another phone?
If so I'd suspect the SIM Slot onwards.
Q. may or may not apply but possibly relevant, does Bluetooth and Wi-Fi still work?

Answer #1: Yes
Answer #2: Yes
Q. I still don't get that when I have flashed the radio, how is it still saying the same baseband version? Doesn't flashing a new radio change it?
Recent UPDATE: Somehow, the phone is behaving well... (always 3 bars or full 4 bars), after the mini CM flash and NOPE 750 flash. Initially it was NO SIM CARD or NO SERVICE but multiple reboots and pulling out and reinserting the sim card have made it this far. Let's see if this good behavior persists.
UPDATE: Back to the same state of disconnecting/No Service/No Sim Card
I still suspect the SIM slot as you could have disturbed what's known as a 'dry joint' essentially made it make contact until it disconnects again even with just a change in any kind of pressure (placing the cover on or placing it on a table).
Then again it could be down to ROM and Kernel, I wouldn't totally rule it out without going back to stock ROM and Kernel and seeing any change

Any DIYs to fix this?

That sucks!
UPDATE: The network seems quite reliable when I am on GSM only (2G only). That again indicates that somehow the problem lies in only the radio driver.
Any ideas?
Same Problem
I am facing exactly same problem on my HTC Desire C. Did lot of hard reset problem reappears after couple of days. got my phone reinstall OS at HTC service centre problem reappeared after a week.
Same sim is working fine in other phone, even got new sim still same problem.
Am confused if its hardware or software issue, problem comes only when phone is in GSM only mode, works fine on WCDMA only or AUTO mode.
But in WCDMA only since network is not good signals are low and in AUTO mode when signals are low it switches to GSM and if at that particular moment there is problem then NO SIGNALS.
Update, Phone fine. Help with the settings!
I checked a lot of sim cards and found that my phone is perfect! There is no hardware issue.
So I am presenting the present scenario. Please help!
I have 2 phones: HTC Desire C and a Nokia B&W aka hammer.
1. TATA DOCOMO sim card work fine on both phones.
2. AirTel sim card works fine in Nokia but HTC says "No Sim Card" regardless of the numerous attempts.
3. Reliance sim card (brand new, bought today) works fine in Nokia but HTC says "No Sim Card".
4. A friend's Reliance sim card was working fine in HTC.
If any Indian friend might help, then it would be great as this issue is more local specific I guess. Or any user who might have faced similar issue and then found a fix please help.
You tried Vodafone?

Not yet.
And believe it or not, but the AirTel sim that I mentioned in my last post was working once I washed it with some alcohol. So it might indicate that the sim was old and dirty maybe.
But what about the new Reliance sim, I just bought it today and it works in Nokia. I'd have switched to Vodafone but I can't afford its high 3G plan rates as I have to maintain an MTS MBlaze for laptop as well.
And the thing that friend's Reliance sim works fine in my phone is troubling me even more.

How do you fix Not Registered On Network?

So as of saturday my unlocked TMobile Note 4 stopped working as a phone, and won't let me make calls.
Information:
-Was on Dr. Ketan L3 version of his rom when it stopped working
-Using the N910T on AT&T
-IMEI is fine and not damaged, both numbers match (using *#06#)
-It shows bars, but when I go to make a call "Not Registered On Network"
What I've Done:
-Flashed Stock Firmware via Odin (Autoboot, and F.Time Rest checked)
-Factory Reset after odin flash
-Checked APN
-Set on LTE/WCDMA/GSM
-Searched for Networks, finds them, but when I choose AT&T it takes forever and then finally kicks me out and then in notifications, I get the "Not Registered to Network"
-Did the remove the battery thing, and removed sim
-Went to AT&T and got a new sim, worked for 1hr (sporadically) and then went back to "Not Registered on Network"
-At the store I was on phone with AT&T tech trying to troubleshoot the problem and that is when it was working shortly
-Called T-Mobile and checked to see if they blocked my IMEI number, nope they didn't, couldn't help me out further than that
-AT&T was showing that it was a Note 4 so not having that coming up as a Blackberry issue that some reported, so that's not it
-*#0011# shows service limited, but it is unlocked and everything is fine, the IMEI is good, and all is well but the limited service
-Put it in Airplane mode and woke it back from there after 5+minutes
-cleaned the connectors on the sim (new sim anyways so shouldn't really need them)
I'm running out of options, the only thing I can think of being the problem is that I might have started out using this phone on COD2, and when I flashed a COG2 firmware it didn't like that and so my phone's account settings didn't fully transfer.
Also I was messing around with the bands settings (*#2263#) what should they be on? Automatic, LTE/GSM only, or what?
Settings should be on automatic. One more thing to try is go for a drive with the phone, at least 5 miles from your house, and see if it does this when connected to other towers. I had this same issue years ago and it turned out to be a malfunctioning tower by my house.
If it still does it on other towers, then it may be hardware-related

Thanks, yeah it kicks in randomly for like a minute and then dies, I take it to my parent's house (about 10 miles away) and along the way I get a good signal, but then when I reach their house, back to nothing. I was using it just fine the week prior. I partially blame Dr. Ketan, ever since installing his rom, I had multiple issues. I since uninstalled it and tried going back to stock. Any idea on what a good "safe" band setting is? I have that settings set to automatic, but if there was a good "safe" band that would be great. A common LTE tower. Even when I do connect or get connected, I can't register on that network, my phone won't let me. I've tried that. The bars drop to zero. I damaged my antenna wire (white one) and I just replaced it with a new one I purchased, but the hacked together one seemed to be doing the same quality job as the new one is. It shows the signal, but as soon as you try tying it down to a network it rejects it. I was afraid that when I flashed the stock image via odin it removed the unlock, but it was still there. I just hate that now I have a $500 pda, when it was a phone and now i'm relegated to using a f*ing flip phone.
i think your antenna cable is damaged. the only way to know that is be close to a tower, and see if your work or not.
bought and replaced with new ones, I get full bars, in my bedroom, but apparently they're tied to Tmobile since when I try to register it to AT&T they magically disappear, but when I close the app, they come back at the same strength level. I can't register them to Tmo since the sim. Yet my phone is telling me it's unlocked (*#0011#), IMEI = PASS, 1;
I think the prob is due to the different frequencies.
Your baseband would not be tied to a rom(ie Dr Ketan) Unless that rom contains Modem.bin
Your apn needs to be att if that's your Sim obviously.
International version has a different chipset. .. I know it's not your case. .
But it's open to any Sim. ..
I can say this.. I have a N2 unlocked (tmob) I run an Att Sim it works but the sig is really spotty... COD6/ COG2 may not be lining up frequency wise with your att Sim. ..
Try rolling your baseband back even further. .

Any clue on to what i should use for best results? Like 850/1900 or 900/2100? What is a good LTE band? Where could I find a map of LTE bands used by carriers, I know how to get to that secret menu and manually change it to see if I get better results?

Well I would think automatic is out for sure.. the other prob would be after reboot the chipset will search for the default.. but I could be wrong.
I do not know what the numbers would be for band identification.
You may get lucky when calling Att and ask for someone in a higher tier. To give you some numbers for frequincies .
But you have ruled out hardware correct??
By putting a tmob Sim in????
Cuz I know you posted you did antenna work..
And I do know you said you get bars then it fades..
The fact it fades and doesn't lock into even a G band for example. Just leads me to believe the apn can't lock down based on the frequincie and the built in lte chipset...
It would be nice to just flash an att modem wouldn't it?? But don't even think about it.. lol you'll soft brick..
I wish I had a better solid answer you. You may just start testing those different bands and see if you get closer to a lock.

U rock, lol. Thx man
My Tricked Out N910P
But what could have happened that made it crap out like that since it was working just fine beforehand for 2 solid months on custom roms and what not? That's the frustrating part, I've been flashing different modems on my phone, but none have been successful. Apparently there are 3 different N910T, how do you know which ones to play with? I flashed N910T(3) bands, that failed, I did try N910A, obviously failed. Then I lost my IMEI number, got terrified, tried reflashing EFS in TWRP, nothing. Then reflashed COG2 bands, it came back. Is there an app on the Playstore that would definitively tell you if your network chip is damaged? I wouldn't know what to look for.
Have you taken apart the Note 4, what are all those contact points, are those antenna things? One of those were damaged, they're like folded metal spring boards with gold tips (same kind of thing that is used to install a qi receiver, same design). I took my tweezer and fixed it, but could that be the culprit, since on the surface, it seems like the network is fine. Works really well in WCDMA, but not much else. I was able to make calls using GSM only, but my signal was 1 bar and the audio quality was questionable, so I left it alone for 10 minutes on that hoping it would force a reconnect. This is frustrating, since I wasted $500 on this phone and not having it work after two months means now I'm back to a featureless phone.
Thanks for your advice thus far. Flashing different modems hasn't been working out well, I just wished I could remember what baseband version the guy had the phone on when I first got it? I thought it was COD6, it was definitely on Lollipop, but if it's a 910T(2) would I know, how would I know?
How do you flash NON_HLOS and modem.bin at the same time in Odin? I know Modem does bands, but what does Non-Hlos do? I thought i read LTE, so if those aren't in sync and on two different versions could that be the issue? I extracted them from the full TAR firmware files.

Heres
A simple method for COD6
And try odin 3.07
I need to think about this some more and get back to you...
This is a partial firmware.. it consists of the modem and bootloader COD6.
Also to rule out damage if you can get a T Mobile Sim put it in the device and see if it locks down a signal....

That was my next move, not having any real income but disability and little coming from that, I thought that was the next logical step too. I'll get a tmobile to go sim and try it see if it can't lock on to that, and see if that doesn't set it on the right path. Have you heard of other people having COG2 issues on AT&T unlocked? Maybe that was the problem, something there broke the connection. I don't know, but whatever it is, I can't thank you enough, you've at least given me more options to try that I couldn't think of on my own. I'll try that file.

You are the first of this kind that I'm aware of.. in regards to this issue..
Make sure you read the detail in if your device bootloops, to reboot recovery and flash the Rom.. if you want flash the Rom in the op that I've linked you to.
Wipe sys/dal/cach/data..
And flash it can't hurt.. [emoji16]
I really hope a Tmob Sim and or COD6 gives you results...and good ones at that.. [emoji2] [emoji106]

Got the sim card, $65 for that crap, and it didn't work. Called T Mobile customer service, explained my situation and how I was calling on another phone on another carrier and they insisted on calling me back on the broken not working phone. I guess I'm just screwed, and lost $500, which like I said, I can't afford to have. It's just so frustrating. I also tried the COD6 partial firmware, and nothing there also. I'll try t-mobile again. The only and last option I have, if possible, is to try to relock my phone and re-unlock it since there isn't any real way to tell if my GSM is damaged. I think my unlocked status got damaged when my phone upgraded to COG2, and since it's in that weird limbo state I can't use my phone. Do you know how to relock it?
Edit: When I look at my IMEI Number through *#06# it shows that the last two digits (independent of the actual IMEI number, since that matches everywhere) to the right of the "/" as 14, yet through "about device" it shows my imei version as 10. I assume that the 14 in the "06" screen is the version it's reading off the phone, could that be causing the issue? How would you even fix that? I don't know. but thanks again, you've been helpful.
