I didn't see this answer when I searched so I hope this helps the next guy.
Bought a Verizon moto x 2nd Gen on Craigslist and not only is it working great on T-Mobile, but lte worked out of the box too. What a nice surprise.

This is true but not all do lte. It seems to be hit and miss by device.
It seems to depend on the area you're in and the band that your specific carrier uses there.
For example I used to get LTE in a certain area of the city but only H+ when I was at home.
Has anyone used the Verizon version on at&t to confirm if lte works?

Just wondering if your Verizon Moto X (2014) is able to get software updates? Also, what about certain features like Wi-Fi calling? I am thinking about a factory refurbished Verizon Moto X (2014) for $259, but wanted to hear a bit more about your experience. Thanks so much!

Wifi calling was a negative. No idea about software updates. Was fully updated when I got it. I no longer have it, sold it and got a pure edition since I switched to cricket and wanted lte.
I just tried the same model Verizon Moto X 2nd gen on ATT Straight talk and can confirm I get edge, H+ and Lte Bands all working perfect. No need to even mess with apn for MMS. Love this phone.
Is the bootloader still locked down?

Based on this thread, I snagged a refurbished Motorola 1096 on ebay. With a T-Mobile SIM card, I get flawless voice, SMS texting, and 4G LTE data. Out of the box, it came with Android 4.4.4 but automatically started downloading lollipop as soon as I turned it on - this was before I put the SIM card in. I did update it fully before inserting the T-Mobile SIM card, and so I don't know if it'll continue to automatically update if it has a non-Verizon SIM card in.

Software updates has nothing to do with the carrier sim card you are using in it. The phone itself will get it respective software update depending on its model number/variant and imei/serial number. For example, I'm using a at&t variant, and I unlocked it by purchasing an unlocked code so that I can use it on my local carrier. I was still able to get the lollipop update.

I can also confirm that this works. I just left a TMo store, and my Verizon 2gen MotoX works perfectly!!! Calling, text, data, GPS...perfect!!
another great reason TMo > VZ
Great to know. It is now $200 on eBay, ordered it just now and hopefully would get it in hand by this weekend.

Hate to necro this thread, but I'm wondering if anybody here is still running T-Mobile on their XT1096 (Verizon). I just went in to the T-Mobile store today and tried out a test SIM card, and while both voice and data seemed to work fine, I had hiccups with SMS. Based on some testing, I was able to send texts but was unable to receive them. We played with some APN settings and rebooted the phone but to no avail.
One unique thing about my setup is that my bootloader is unlocked and I'm running a custom debloated version of the stock ROM (which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/development/img-xt1096-victara-mofo-image-root-t3100145). Is it possible that this could be causing the issue, should I go back into the store running pure stock and try again?
Anybody got any ideas?

Hi everyone,
I’m planning to buy a Motorola Moto X phone from US through the official Moto Maker site.
At checkout, I would still need to choose a carrier. I'm planning to choose one of the GSM providers (AT&T or T-Mobile) with the ‘No contract’ option.
As far as I know, the phone would still be locked to the carrier chosen. So, does that mean that the phone will be unusable outside of the US?
I spoke to a couple of Motorola agents and I got contrasting views-
One of them said, the phone would be locked to the opted carrier in the US. But elsewhere the phone could be used with any GSM sim.
The other agent said, the phone will not be usable with any SIM apart from the opted carrier, till the phone is unlocked using an unlock subsidy code obtained from the carrier.
So, what is this about Locked and No Contract phones? Also I read in the AT&T's and T-Mo's site that they would provide a unlock code after 60 and 40 days respectively.
And, any processes to be followed before taking it out of US to use with a local carrier in other countries? Like Activation etc.,
Any suggestions or thoughts would be of great help. Thanks!

ok... so this is the deal with an AT&T Motox X off contract. It will still be carrier locked out of the box. I talked to AT&T and they said that in order to unlock it there has to be a least 60 days of AT&T service on the phone.... i think its ridiculous...!!
was planning to buy it and bring it to Germany... but wont work out of the box...
I think TMobile version is carrier unlocked.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
Do you know if I take an unlocked Moto X bought from the US (via the Motorola Maker Website) to India, will I be able to get service in India, or do I need to bring it back to the US if I have any issues?
I'm worried about such things as broken screen, repairs, battery replacement, etc...
Any help you or anyone could give regarding this would be greatly appreciated.
Moto X help needed
Hey guys.. I'm planning to get a Moto X, but in India we dont have the option for the 32 Gb variant and neither do we get the Moto Maker... Does anyone have any info regarding whther these features would be available in the future, and that i could wait for it? Or is it better to get it shipped from the US via a friend/cousin??
Hello everyone,
As you all know there was a sale just for one day on Moto X over in US, I ordered the 32gb version for myself. As I am in India and will be using this phone here, on the choose a carrier page i selected: GSM Unlocked (includes T-Mobile Sim) option.
My question is: Will this phone support the Indian Sim? Also does this phone support LTE? And which version (AT&T or T-Mobile) will I get as below GSM Unlocked, it`s written AT&T and T-Mobile 4G LTE with Global HSPA?
Which one is better in terms of future software updates?

Hello,
I want to get a Moto X for Europe.
1. as a non-Sprint customer, can I unlock the phone for Europe usage?
2. if No, can I get a carrier-unlocked phone from moto maker?
3. if yes, can someone help me out with a code?
Notes:
It's urgent because I have to ship it in the next days to arrive in time.
I have a US address and CC.
Thanks a bunch!
I don't think you want a Sprint phone at all. What bands do your providers use for HSPA/UMTS/WCDMA and for LTE?
With that information we can suggest the best Moto X variant to purchase.
If your CC isn't issued in the US. You won't be able to purchase. Buying the model depends on which bands your carrier support for LTE if that is a concern for you. The T Mobile Moto X from their website comes carrier unlocked with no branding. And it's LTE bands are 2,4 & 17. AT&T model supports the most LTE bands. I don't recall all of them Wikipedia should help with that.
I'm assuming you're are buying from MotoMaker to get a customized one?
You can take the route of buying from eBay if the above is not the case, where sellers sell the unlocked AT&T variant which is the Mobile Nextel version? (I think), but no option to customize colors.
By the way why did you want the Sprint version?

I did take the ebay route, and after so much digging about several models, I just decided to get the Moto X, and found a good price for it. I also checked that it can be carrier unlocked, but didn't know it's not for all carriers. So I didn't check if you can unlock Sprint or not.
Sad thing is, I already won the bid for the phone. And now I don't know what to do, because if I pay for it, I will have an unusable phone in my country .
I'd order from the MotoMaker (friend of mine has US CC), but the price is a bit high for me there. That's why I asked if someone maybe has a $150 off code, I saw people offering.
What do you suggest?

If you have a friend in the US that would be the best route.
Mines were unable to buy mines for me because the thought it would of been to much of a hassle.
I live in The Bahamas and had to buy mines through a US parcel forwarding Personal shopper service. Which in turn still turned out better than buying from eBay or Swappa. Reason being is that I got to customize it to my liking of colors and I got more memory for the money.
As for a code, surely someone around here has one they will give you for free. Or you can go to AndroidCentral to try your luck there, but for the most part users of XDA have some at their disposal.

Your best bet is to purchase a tmobile version of the phone, it will not be simlocked. The Sprint versions are simlocked and I only Sprint seems to be able to unlock them.
I don't think any version of the phone will get you LTE, you may get HSPA (3G) but it is tough to confirm without having any true band numbers to compare to as several bands are similar in the US and other countries but aren't quite the same.
If you do have a US friend who can and will order a phone with a US credit card I do have a code to share. I just want to make sure the code gets used.

I bought the TMO version. I don't think you can unlock Sprint for GSM.
EDIT: Afaik, you need to been on Sprint fo 90 days to get it unlocked. Maybe you can talk to them, and ask the exact conditions. I couldn't do this, because I don't live in the US. My best option was to get the TMO version, even if it's more expensive. This is unlocked by default, and works in Europe. It's like the developer edition.
So I've been tinking and trying to get a T-Mobile sim to work in my Sprint Moto X but I pretty much always end of with these two things no matter how I change apns or setting or anything.
Do you guys have any idea how I can get this to work?

Did you cut your Sim card? I had trouble with my T-Mobile Sim in my Verizon moto x after I cut it down from a micro Sim to nano Sim. I had to get a new one from T-Mobile for free to get it to work. Also, I'm not sure if the Sprint moto x is Sim unlocked like the Verizon one is.

I didn't cut it I actually tested with my friend's iPhone 5s nano sim.
But I don't think it's unlocked so that's probably the problem.
The problem lies in the Verizon radios trying to hand off the LTE to CDMA, if your boot loader is unlocked you can flash the tmo factory files, everything but the boot loader and the phone will work as it should. If you are on a non Dev with a locked boot loader, the best you can do is disable LTE and force into umts only mode. Another user and myself corrected the problem finally by flashin the tmo sbf files, requires Dev edition or unlocked boot loader to do tho, hope that helps, we covered this in two other threads in this section.

Correct. Unlike the Verizon X (XT1060), the Sprint X is shipped SIM locked, and will not work with another GSM SIM.
From what I've seen, you can only get the SIM unlock code from Sprint, and only if the X is currently active on a Sprint line, and meets their criteria (length of contract, etc).

If its like other phones, power the phone off, put the foreign sim in the phone, power it on. it should ask for the unlock code.
You will most likely only be getting edge data speeds, sell the sprint moto x and buy a at&t, or verizon moto x
Hi
Iam about o buy a MOTO X with GSM Unlocked provided by NET10 Carrier in US. will this mobile work with my vodafone carrier in INDIA.
Expected answers in a day
thanks in Advance
From what I've been reading, the X from net10 is the XT1053 GSM Unlocked version,. It is SIM unlocked and should be bootloader unlockable.
If that is true, then similar to the GSM Unlocked XT1053 and Developer Edition XT1053, the Net10 X will support the following frequencies...
GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+ : 850/900/ AWS/1900/2100 MHz with HSPA+ up to 42 Mbps (B5/B8/B4/B2/B1)
LTE: 700/AWS/1900MHz (B17/B4/B2)
If your carrier uses those, then the phone will work. If you've seen threads talking about the USA Dev Edition, or GSM Unlocked Edition being used in India, then it will work.
This thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/moto-x-indian-thread-pricing-t2662264 seems to indicate the XT1052 is being sold/used in India... Based on Wikipedia, the XT1052 supports different LTE bands, and there is a slight difference in the UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+ support.

Not doubting you, but do you have source for this? Everything I've been reading has left the model number out. If it is an XT1053, that would be awesome, but I don't want to buy the phone and find out it has Net10 firmware on it.

Sorry, I thought this AndroidPolice article said the model -> http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/07/09/deal-alert-moto-x-on-net-10-is-299-100-off-until-july-16th/
but apparently it was discussion in the comments... does not appear confirmed.
THe Moto Maker web site calls it GSM Unlocked includes Net10 Wireless SIM... hence the speculation its the same XT1053 GSM Unlocked but includes a Net10 sim rather than T-Mobile.
I may just take a chance on ordering it, and if it isn't an XT1053 i'll just return it for a refund.
Any update on this? Want to get one for tmobile.

And you can't downgrade....but you probably know that. ?

So you were able to get the unlock code from the official moto website? If so, that is great news!
Some of us were wondering if net10 would allow moto to give the codes out for phones purchased as 'net10' phones, since most of domestic carriers don't allow it (exception being t-mobile).

Just FYI, you can use scissors to cut any size SIM down to micro or nano (I've done it successfully multiple times). There is a lady at the mall kiosk that does exactly that (doesn't even use one of the SIM-Cutting machines that you can get on Amazon for only a few bucks...) LOL! And she charges $10 to do it!! haha

There is a lady at the mall kiosk that does exactly that (doesn't even use one of the SIM-Cutting machines that you can get on Amazon for only a few bucks...) LOL! And she charges $10 to do it!! haha

Hmm, never even crossed my mind to try that. I paid 9.99 for it at the T-Mobile store so not too bad, but yes, free is better.
Wondering if any Verizon customer is considering buying their phone from Google Play and if they could confirm that the Google Play edition works on Verizon?

There is only one version for all U.S. carriers so if you buy from Google it should work fine. You may have to take into a Verizon store for a new SIM card and activation.
I'm buying mine from Motorola.

I'm curious if the bootloader will be unlocked from Google Play and Motorola, but locked if you buy the phone at a Verizon store. I think this is the first time Verizon has ever allowed something like this. I've been stuck with my Galaxy Nexus (cyanogenmod rom) since the release and love the cleanness of stock aosp.

That's my plan! I'm going to transfer the SIM Card from my Moto X Developer Edition to the Nexus 6. I'll let you know how it goes
Will order either from Google play or Motorola, depending on which site has stock and hassle free ordering, I.e., a site which doesn't crash.

I highly doubt it would be locked. And if it was locked by default, they would probably supply you with the code to unlock it.

I'm guessing it'll be unlocked if you buy it from Google Play and Motorola, but locked if you get it from Verizon (if they even advertise or sell it). I wonder if the device is even Verizon certified yet. Remember the delays when the Galaxy Nexus came out? I remember Best Buy having them in stock and waiting to be sold but til Verizon gave everyone the go-ahead.
Will the Sim card that I have any in my note 3 work with the N6?
I'll be ordering from play store. On Verizon now with an m7 and unlimited data. I plan on getting it and taking it to the store to get a nano SIM so I can swap it with my m7. If they won't allow it, I'll just go to metro.

You should be able too if you buy off contract and they let you activate it and they should. All you need is a nano SIM provisioned on your account.

Does anyone think that getting a nano Sim from Verizon will be an issue?
It shouldn't. When I had a resound, it used a normal sim. I bought a DNA off swappa and it used a micro SIM. I went to Verizon told them I bought the phone used and would like to swap it out for the rezound. They got a micro SIM and set it up on my account and plugged it in my new phone.

Shouldn't be an issue. I had to replace my Sim when I went from galaxy nexus to note 3 because of the ISIS support, but no issues when I went back to my note 2 when the note 3 was a disappointment for me. You could even cut your Sim if they give you any crap.

I would be weary of cutting the SIM. You should have no issue asking for a nano SIM if you have an account with them. The worst that could happen is the in store employee is misinformed and says no or charges you for it.
I'm pretty sure if the size of the phone doesn't bother me I'm keeping it and I'll leave Verizon if I have to assuming they don't want to allow it because you got it from Google.
