Whenever I try to restore my data, it will wipe the data after recovering the backup but won't restore the data. It's a pain to switch ROMs for me. Any help?

U able to create backup of data partition?

Hi Guys.
I haven't worked much with CWM so far and couldn't find a proper answer in the threads here.
When I do a restore from a CWM backup I've not seen an option to choose just data or apps ... so I suppose the whole system including the rom and kernel will be restored. right?
As I'm happy to have CM 10.1 running after all finally, I'd just like to restore the data (SMS, etc.) from a CWM backup. Is there a possibility to do so?
Thanks for your help.
Cheers
I don't think you can do that. I used titanium backup pro to restore only the apps+setting to do that.

Ok, thanks. Should have thought about it before.... Sometimes fingers are faster than the brain.

You can do an advanced restore and just restore /data but it's not recommented to do this coming from stock and restoring on CM I guess...

Stock and CM use different bases, and therefore restoring data of Stock can bring over some incompatible data/apk's and this can and most likely will cause a bootloop, from reading i think i can establish the safest way when your changing Rom's is to full wipe and 'clean' install. However when going from nightly to nightly this is not needed, and some data can be restored between same android version Rom's, for example CM10.2 is 4.3.1, data may work on slimbean 4.3.1.
Hope this clears things up for you.
I would also suggest to do a clean install without data recovery. If you want your data you can use Titanium Backup for App data. For the other personal stuff you can make a backup to your PC..

CWM Recovery, URGENT REPLY!!
I faced this problem that my rom got stuck on boot image, so I had another custom rom zip in my sdcard, so to install that I had to format my phone, now I have that backup and I only want to restore system settings, apps, app data, my data(sms, call logs and stuff), I dont want to restore the system or anything else which will make it get stuck on boot image again, now which choices shall I choose in advanced restore to restore only these specified items?
Please reply urgently as I have to travel in a few days and I wont be able to do it over there.
Cheers
Hi guys,
I believe this question has been asked multiple times, and i myself tried searching for answers from many various source to clarify my doubts, only to get more confused due to conflicting information.
Let's say now i am on a custom ROM. Before flashing the custom ROM, i made a backup of my stock touchwiz rom using cwm. However i want to revert back to the exact same state before flashing the custom ROM. What are the steps i need to do to restore the backup file?
1) Some sources mentioned just booting into cwm recovery, selecting "backup and restore" option, select "restore" and choosing the desired backup file will allow the phone to restore to the state prior to flashing.
2) Some other sources mentioned needing to wipe cache/wipe delvik cache/format system/format cache etc. first before i can restore the backup file.
So which is it?
Thank you!
Personally, I always choose option 2 if going to another rom. If restoring an earlier backup within the same rom i use option 1.
Don't know excact what the right thing to do is, but it never hurt to wipe cache / dalvik cache / system because you have it all backed up anyway. At least if you backup regulary. I back up regulary and delete the backups i don't want.

Thanks for the tip!
Is wiping cache/delvik cache sufficient in most cases?
Cos i saw a youtube video, where the guy did not wipe cache/delvik cache. instead, he formatted cache, data and system.

Any other things i should look out for or preventive measures i should take for restoring backup from cwm?
i have been reading of cases where restoration through cwm fails and they have to go through the whole process of re-rooting and flashing before being able to restore it
there is no need for wiping, the recovery does it on its own prior to restoring.
got stuck
i erased everything followed 2nd step now its stuck on logo not starting

If you did a factory reset, there's probably a good chance that all your stuff is gone. I really hate to say it, but all that stuff is stored on the physical memory of the phone, and without an SD Card, it all gets wiped.
Thnxx sir...
Sir yesterday i tried to rrstore my previous backup by using data recovery wizard in windows...but when i tried to restore the backup from recovery it shows "checking md5 sums md5 mismatch"...then after trying a lot it says restoring boot and restoring system...but after it says restoring data failed...then when i rebooted phone the my touch was not working...phone got stucks at lock screen...
So is there any way to restore data from my backup using windows or any other method using recovery....

Hi
Suddelny my Z1 C9603 restarted and was stuck on the "wawes" after the Xperia logo. I flashed the .108 firmware and then it got stuck and "Android is upgrading, starting programs". I then flashed the .757 firmware and it got to: "Android is upgrading, starting program x/x(Where x is a number)" It finished and is now stuck at "starting programs". Both time I flashed without wiping data. Any suggestions of what I can do?
BL=Unlocked
Root=Yes(Before flashing)
Dualrecovery=TeamWin and ClockWork(Also before flashing ofc)
Thanks

Hmm, I thought about that myself, but I don't want to lose my data, and I do not have any backups.. Is there any way to backup the data now? Through ADB or something?
Yes, you can make a backup in recovery, but if its the data that's causing the bootloop restoring will restore the bootloop...
Also, take this as lesson number 1, always make a backup.

Okey, thank you I will try backing up and then wipe alle data, and so restore, if that won't work, I'll just wipe it all..
Is it possible to recover data after doing the wipe from recovery ?
Have you already make nandroid backup from recovery?
If already then you will be able to restore data.
If not then say you wouldn't able to restore it easily

I don't think. Try android data recovery software to scan your xiaomi mi 5 to see if the wiped data can be scanned out or not. If yes, you can get them back easily, if no, it's impossible to recover the wiped data.
