Root Desire 510
I was using the WinDroid method of rooting my phone and I got the bootloader unlocked no problem but it get stuck when I try flashing TWRP to it. I live in the US and it appears that I have the 32bit version so I was wondering if anyone else had this problem or if I was doing something wrong.
For the toolkit
toolkit 2.1 won't boot up for me to do the root and recovery part i used 2.0 and unlocked my bootloader but other than that im stuck help out?
I have a custom recovery but I want to go back to my original recovery. How can I do that?

RUU is probably the quickest. I'm not aware of anyone that's uploaded the stock recovery.

Hi, i'm having some trouble I think. I'm trying to unlock my HTC Desire 510 (Eu version) and Software Status is still "locked". I did got the token and the file from HTC Dev website.
LE: It doesn't prompt me to confirm the unlock, it just enters in bootloader.

Make sure you have adb installed and then place the unlock_code.bin from HTC in the same folder as your adb and then boot the phone Into fastboot and make sure your device is listed by typing fastboot devices if it's listed then type fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin and then the phone will ask if you want to unlock it select yes and you'll be done.
I've successfuly unlock bootloader and got root with the method in this thread, but I have a problem. A new system update was released (1.51.401.4 - Android Security Patches - libStageFright). Obviously I can't install it because of the custom recovery. What can I do in this situation?

you'll have to go all the way back to stock and it's not worth it because no matter what you do all the roms here are on 1.46... and besides, there has not been 1 libstage attack ever that anyone knows of and it's unlikely that anyone's going to just pick you out of everyone in the entire world to just use that against so don't worry about it!
I don't need other roms. I've unlocked the bootloader and rooted just to remove the bloatware. I still need the latest updates.

Then you'll need to relock the bootloader and run the RUU from the HTC website and start all over again... Make sure you download the correct RUU too!
I've managed to unlock the bootloader using the HTC dev website but phone is still network locked, thought it would fix that... what now? is there a network unlock for the 510?

Nope there's no way to unlock that to use different carriers. Usually if a carrier is going to unlock the phone it has to have been used on their network for at least 1 year and even if you pay money to those websites claiming to be able to unlock it you're going to waste your money. The phone has to be unlocked on the carriers side which is why there's nothing you can do.

Hey there @MrMike2182 and thanks for replying
Is this specific to HTC devices as I don't have much experience with them? And from what you're saying, the only option I have, besides having a door stopper, is to get the unlock code from Cricket? It seems kind of bizarre that sim unlocking is "impossible", I understand the unlocking of CDMA versions is/was done provider side (used to work for a CDMA provider, no naming ) but for GSM versions it is/was handset side... please correct me if my information is erroneous.
Thanks

It doesn't have anything to do with HTC. Most people don't understand that the micro SIM card only gives you the ability to use LTE and if you remove the SIM card the phone will still work... It has to be carrier unlocked whether gsm or cdma doesn't matter. Now considering you're not in the USA Cricket may agree to unlock them but then complain that the computer won't allow them to do that because the phones haven't been activated on their network for at least a year and you're basically screwed there. The last thing you may be able to do is take the phone to whatever carrier you plan on using and see If they can re-provision the phone to work with their network. It's not likely to work though.

this phone will work without the microsim? that's not my understanding of how GSM networks work but ok, you seem to have a solid understanding of that...
Anyways, i'll try to get a hold of Cricket, another family member got me the handsets and he's an active client of Cricket's as well as an employee... since this seems to be the only course of action I have (which I didn't really want to take but oh well!)
thanks anyways, i'll update on how this goes.
cheers!

Yes the phone will work without the SIM card but you'll only get 3G speeds that's it but when you put the micro SIM card in you get the high speed LTE. That's how these pay as you go phones work! Cellphones that are not the pay as you go with like cricket, virgin mobile or T-Mobile don't have this type of setting and the SIM card on those ones controls it all. If you have a family member that works for cricket like you said then they could be able to pull some strings to help you out.

I'm new to CDMA tech, I used to be a GSM guy. so this is all new to me. From my understanding PRL is some sort of file that allows you to use specific towers or something, and My intention is to use Verizon towers on my sprint phone as they have great coverage at my location. I did some researching about PRL in this forum and I'v come to the conclusion it is impossible to use a Verizon PRL on a sprint HTC one unless it is rooted. If that is the case I wish to know the answers to the following.
1.Is it possible to use verizon prl on the Sprint htc one without root? "although I know what your answer might be "
2.If root is required. What do you think is the most noob friendly guide to rooting my Sprint Htc One
3.Would I be able to unroot my device once I root it? in case of future sales?
any link you provide me would be great! I'd really appreciate your help and I'll continue to scout the form for more information. I honestly prefer noob guides to rooting such as one click methods to rooting and what not. But if there is no such thing for the Sprint htc one I completely accept that and will be willing to work with whatever guide you think is friendly to new CDMA users.
Cdma is nothing like GSM. You can't use a sprint phone on Verizon or vice versa because the carriers have to register your phone ESN to allow it on its network. Neither carrier will do that. A Cdma phone is locked to the network it is sold on, and its mvno partners like Ting which uses Sprint's network.

all you need to do is unlock it via htcdev, and flash a custom recovery via 'fastboot flash some-recovery.img' - then flash a superuser zip (though the custom recoveries seem to include this function now)

Yes, you'll only be able to completely restore it if you are s-off (remove tampered flag, etc.)
---
Notes:
- I'm sure you know this (since you signed a contract that says this), but roaming above 300Mb/month gives sprint the right to terminate your contract at any time without notice
- You'll be able to get more information in the sprint forums
- There's plenty of documentation on root, s-off, changing PRL, restoring to stock throughout the forums.
Hello,
I am currently living in Europe and i have a Sprint M8. Unfortunately s-off is not compatible with my phone (u might know about the whelp message).
I dont know even if this is possible, but if any of u guys has a contract with SPRINT, can you request an international SIM Unlock (GSM) for me (i dont need unlock for USA carriers, just for other international carriers)?
I can pay if the fee is acceptable.
Thanx!
first why would you get the Sprint version if you live abroad?
second sprint can unlock it so long as its payed off (not on someones contract) and hasnt been reported lost or stolen. just call sprint
Sent from my 831C using XDA Free mobile app
I cant call sprint from where I live. If somebody can do it for me im willing to pay.
I contacted Sprint from their Live Chat, and they told me i have to have an active contract with them in order to unlock. Which i dont have
Can anybody help?

if you want to try something on your responsibility then you can follow the sim unlock method without s-off (remember to make nand backup) & try if you get your device unlocked, if not then you will need to enable gsm band with QPST, with modified HTCOMADM_SPCS.apk.
I followed all that sim unlock method but my device still locked & i can't select gsm networks then i enabled it with QPST & all things worked ok.
the difference between us is s-off only.
I already tried it and the .apk files on /system/apps are replaced after i make the reboot. I guess this is why s-off is needed... I think i have to wait for the new s-off. Or till somebody with a Sprint contract will help me (if it is even possible since im in europe right now)

Try the following on you responsibility
- You should know your SPC, you can read it with CDMA Workshop or CDMA DFS Tool.
- Install QSPT (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2263391)
- enable diag mode ##3424#
- open QPST configuration, from port tab add your device diagnostics port.
- from start clients tab choose service programming then ok & click on read from phone.
- on system tab choose automatic for roam preferences.
- on UMTS System tab choose any for pref service domain & any band (last bottom right) for proffered band.
- click write to phone, then your device should work on GSM mode with modified HTCOMADM_SPCS.apk.

Unfortunately you have to be on Sprint's Network to get the OTA update. Here is the RUU 5.03.651.3 which will give you Sense 6. Just follow the instructions in the OP on how to run the RUU, since you are S-OFF you do not need to lock your bootloader to run the RUU.
Here is the link to the Sprint HTC One forum. Keep an eye out in this forum for future updates, generally someone will post the OTA so it can be installed manually.

It should not effect you SIM unlock. There is no guarantee that any process will not brick your phone, OTAs from the HTC and carriers have caused some issues. The best you can do is check MD5 checksums to see if the file has been corrupted during the download process and check the OP for any one who has reported an issue.

Extract the zip to your adb/fastboot folder

So the folks on this forum are my last hope before I give up. I bought an XT1049 on ebay (I know, mistake!) because I wanted to try Republic Wireless, and the phone has KitKat running on it - far superior to Lollipop on the Moto X in my opinion. I got the phone - great condition, and KitKat was everything I remembered (silky smooth, much longer battery time) vs. the laggy dog of Lollipop I have on my old Moto X. This should be great, right? Wrong. Turns out it's not a RW phone. Says XT1049 on the back, when I plug it into my laptop it says XT1049, but after emails with RW support and community, this is not an RW phone. The ROM is different and they don't recognize the IMEI. Sigh....
Take it to AT&T store and a Metro PCS store to see if I can get it to work on either of their networks. Guy at Metro PCS pops in a sim card, changes out Access Point Names, then tells me the phone is "network locked", and he can't do anything for me. He said it's possible to unlock it, but I'd have to know what network it was locked by. Well, it's not RW, but I don't know who or what to do at this point.
The System Version is 161.44.38.ghost_row.ACGLTE.en.US, which I've found is "ACG Regional Carriers" - which seems like bad news to me. I don't think that network - or collection of networks - would work for me in any reasonable way.
So my question - is there any way I can get this phone unlocked to work on a legit GSM network like AT&T, or preferably T-mobile? Or am I just chasing my tail and need to take this as a lesson learned? The phone works remarkably well, so I don't want to brick it. I can use it as a secondary phone at home - just with no data/calls. But I would love to find a way to use this if I can figure a way to unlock this.
Thanks in advance for your help! (I realized this should be posted in the Q&A section, but can't seem to find a way to delete this or move to Q&A.)

Background: I am writing this short guide for people like me that want all the info about the T-Mobile 6T unlock capabilities. None of this is my work. I wanted to have a central thread where T-Mobile users can discuss the T-Mobile specifics of this device.
When you purchase a T-Mobile branded OP 6T the device will be SIM and Bootloader locked. Many great people here on XDA found ways around the SIM and bootloader lock. I am simply compiling it all here in one simple thread to be a resource for us T-Mobile users. In this guide you will be directed to the proper resources to SIM and bootloader unlock your T-Mobile 6T and return to T-Mobile software fully unlocked. It doesnt matter if your device is paid off or not. You are bypassing the 40 day wait for a paid off device to SIM unlock!
This is a high level overview for someone that wants quick info and links. All of the info is on XDA but scattered in various threads. I found bits and pieces here and there in those threads so I decided to make a dedicated T-Mobile thread for any T-Mobile user that needs help with the complete process in one simple thread.
So here goes...
Step 1: Convert device to international ROM and unlock the bootloader. Thanks to @AnonymousTipster for this thread! Follow the steps here: T-Mobile 6T to International Conversion (WITHOUT unlocked bootloader/SIM unlock!) NOTE: You MUST use version 9.0.11 to unlock the bootloader (If you flash a newer version make sure you use the patched exe files). After converting to the International version (and going through the set up process) go to Developer options and select OEM Unlocking and turn it on. Now reboot to bootloader and issue the command "fastboot oem unlock" to unlock the bootloader. You are now on the international ROM with your bootloader unlocked.
Step 2: Root and Recovery: Thanks to @mauronofrio for this thread! Now you can root and install recovery on your device following the steps here: [RECOVERY][3.3.0-2][fajita]Official/Unofficial TWRP recovery for OnePlus 6T (Stable).
Step 3: Unlock the SIM . Thanks to @nika_bego for this thread. Follow the steps here: Guide SIM UNLOCK T-MOBILE version all type of IMEI supported.
---NOTE: At this point you can call it quits and keep device as is which is now both bootloader and SIM unlocked on the international firmware (I recommend updating to the latest beta's) or you can continue on with the guide to return to T-Mobile firmware while maintaining SIM unlock (which will lead to boot loader unlock)...
Step 4: Convert back to T-Mobile Device: Thanks to @Dark Nightmare for this thread. Now use the MSM Tool to revert back to the original T-Mobile firmware from here: [TOOL] T-Mobile OnePlus 6T MSMDownloadTool [Firmware 9.0 v1 & v2] This will RE-LOCK your bootloader but not the SIM. You only need to do this if you want to keep the T-Mobile firmware for the updated RCS app, etc. Once the bootloader is re-locked it will take 7 days to get the unlock token shown in the next step. There will be a few security updates once you flash the original firmware back. I would update before unlocking bootloader.
Step 5: Legit Unlock Bootloader Thank OnePlus for this NOTE: Take all OTA's before unlocking. Once unlocked you will no longer receive OTA Updates. You are now on T-Mobile firmware and SIM unlocked. You can proceed to unlock the bootloader the legit way now. Simply follow the steps here: How to unlock bootloader for OnePlus 6T (T-Mobile edition). NOTE: It does take an entire 7 days for the unlock token.
Thats it, your done! You are now fully unlocked and running t-Mobile version of the software (or moved on to other ROMS all together). You can now have root on the latest T-Mobile ROM or stick with a custom ROM.
Feel free to discuss all things T-Mobile in this thread.
Big thanks to the following people for posting all original work: @AnonymousTipster, @mauronofrio, @nika_bego, @Dark Nightmare

I just choose to run stock because I want to keep the device as close to stock as possible. I am pretty happy with this phone the way it is out the box. The only reason I rooted was to install AdAway.

Custom kernels can be great and all. But the stock ones are still very well optimized overall and this phone is constantly giving me 7-8 hours SOT with both custom kernels and stock. Sure, there's the argument of debloating and lightening. But I think stock provides a decent enough experience that doesn't lose out on much important stuff
Nice work but step 2 isn't required. After giving the fastboot OEM unclock command, let it wipe as normal, then before letting it reboor, force it back to bootloader mode by holding vol up, down, and power till it reboots, then just hold power and volume down and it enters bootloader aka fastboot mode. Then give fastboot erase modemst1 and then fastboot erase modemst2. Then reboot. It is also worth mentioning msm 9.0.12 can be used now as long as u run it with the factory patched exe file from the intl conversion thread that was posted with 9.0.11.. Gets you all up to date, a bit faster. Take anonymous tipsters patched exe and copy to msm 12 directory. FYI,.every kernel and ROM for both the intl op6 and op6t work for our phone. Identical. Pixel experience by markash and treskmod actually run better on the phone than stock oos, with about 9-10 hrs sot. .. one plus dropped the ball on ram MGMT, especially with 8gbs of ram and them not utilizing it. Lastly if u stay on TMO firmware, I have a giant list of hacks I'll put together for the strictly stock users. Build prop edits that should be included to begin with.

Background: I am writing this short guide for people like me that want all the info about the T-Mobile 6T unlock capabilities. When you purchase a T-Mobile branded OP 6T the device will be SIM and Bootloader locked. Many great people here on XDA found ways around the SIM and bootloader lock. I am simply compiling it all here in one simple thread to be a resouce for others looking to do the conversion to an unlocked device.
In this guide you will be directed to the proper resources to SIM and bootloader unlock your T-Mobile 6T and return to T-Mobile software fully unlocked. It doesnt matter if your device is paid off or not. You are bypassing the 40 day wait for a paid off device to sim unlock.
This is a high level overview for someone that wants quick info and links. All of the info is on XDA but scattered in various threads.
Step 1: Convert device to international ROM and unlock the bootloader. Follow the steps here: T-Mobile 6T to International Conversion (WITHOUT unlocked bootloader/SIM unlock!)
Step 2: You will need to root your device with Magisk using TWRP. Follow the steps here: [RECOVERY][3.3.0-2][fajita]Official/Unofficial TWRP recovery for OnePlus 6T (Stable)
Step 3: Unlock the SIM by erasing modemst1 and modemst2. Follow the steps here: Guide SIM UNLOCK T-MOBILE version all type of IMEI supported
Step 4: At this point you can call it quits and keep device as is. Or... You can MSM Tool back to the T-Mobile firmware from here: [TOOL] T-Mobile OnePlus 6T MSMDownloadTool [Firmware 9.0 v1 & v2] This will RE-LOCK your bootloader but not the SIM.
Step 5: You are now on T-Mobile firmware and SIM unlocked. You can proceed to unlock the bootloader the legit way now. Simply follow the steps here: How to unlock bootloader for OnePlus 6T (T-Mobile edition)
. NOTE: It does take an entire 7 days for the unlock token.
Thats it, your done! You are now fully unlocked and running t-Mobile version of the software. You can now have root on the latest T-Mobile ROM with RCS capabilities.
Feel free to discuss all things T-Mobile in this thread.

Step two isnt required unless that is all you plan on doing is rooting. This guide just tries to link to the others guides. Just a high level overview.
Also, great idea. Great idea on creating a list of hacks. Definitely post a link to the thread when you create one.
Just followed this. Windows 8 was being a PITA for adb and fastboot so I upgraded it to Windows 10. BUT.. once I fixed the quirks with my laptop these steps went smoothly with no hiccups. Just gotta wait the 7 days now so I can use the Swift themer and make it look the way I like. Let's see how well this works completely stock for a week. When I first got this phone I immediately switched to international so I've never been able to experience the TMO firmware.
Thanks again for sharing this!

Maybe I'm seeing things.....so even though T-Mobile devices are locked (mainly because you're still paying for the device) you can still get root on the device?

U have been able to do that, u can just bypass having to convince customer care to sim unlock it which gives you access to oem unlock which then allows u to flash twrp/ magisk and thus root...this is possible by unlocking the bootloader.
In overview..
Can sim unlock
Can unlock bootloader
Or just flash patched msm and bypass all of this
Can have dual SIM capability
Can run any software op6, op6t intl.
Can get unlock bin to legitimately and fully unlock device without needing TMobile to unlock anything.

Yep, just follow the links in the guide and you can unlock a fully locked device and root it.
Oh yeah..... I've been away for way too long.

Thats why I made this guide for T-Mo users. Not enough T-Mo users know you can unlock and root with the methods listed in this thread and other threads linked to.
Thanks for this guide. Just dropped my OP6 in my pool and need to get another phone asap. Was going to go to a TMO store tomorrow to get the 6T. If I pay for the phone in full and then follow steps 1-4 (I want root) and to leave it unlocked, will it be the same firmware/state as if I purchased from OnePlus directly?
Update: TMO is saying I need to have the phone for 60 before I can unlock it. Is that correct?
Thanks!!!
