Hi
I just installed a custom lolipop 5.02 using cyanogenmod CM 12 using ODIN to my galaxy s3 mini. and everything went will
after that i tried to connect my s3 to my PC it installs the drivers and it appears in the Device Manager but it does not appear in my computer and it wont connect to kies.
I tried to enable Debugging mode and the same, i tried to change the connection type,
i went to *settings* then *storage* the from the menu i chose *USB computer connection*, once i chose PTP or MTP it gives me this error "unfortunately, settings has stopped".
It is MTP checked by default although.
this happens even without debugging enabled.
How can i get my device connects to my PC? i need to transfer data.
Thanks

Only if you have TWRP 2.8.0.0 or higher :
1. Boot to TWRP recovery
2. Navigate to "Mount" and enable "enable MTP"
3. Connect your device to your PC
Now you can transfer files between your phone and PC

I had a similar thing happen to me after an update and was forced to do a factory restore. That's why it's always good to save stuff to your removable storage; makes it much easier to transfer/salvage data when something goes wrong.

I don't really know what I messed up but my computer doesn't recognize my phone any more.
After flashing Ultimate 8.2 beta and Ultimate 8.2 it just doesn't work.
What could I have done the mass storage is working with everyone except me.

I solved my problem here's the steps.
1. make sure that you have a rom on your sd-card to flash (just in case)
2. do a nandroid backup trough CWM
3. factory reset your phone, reboot
4. uninstall the phones drivers from the computer. unless you have a computer which doesn't have them installed
5. Connect your phone into computer and let it install the sd-card drivers
6. remove the mass storage from your computer safely
7. install the samsung galaxy s drivers for your computer
8. plug your phone into the computer. now it should be recognized and you'll be able to flash to stock if you want via Odin

try uninstalling the drivers for your phone on the pc.
factory reset your phone.
Does it recognise in odin when in download mode?
The same issue. I have Ultibread 1.4 and wanted to flash the JVK but windows keep disabling it. Can't find the device either in normal state or in download state. Odin also didn't recognize it
I'm on win7 x86
Did a factory reset - still the same
I tried different cables and PC's - no luck Anyone !! Any idea?

Didn't help in my case. I did the backup and wipe/factory reset the phone. Enabled the debugging mode, removed kies and all the drivers, rebooted the phone and the pc, connected the phone to pc and had the same message Any idea where I could got it wrong?
P.S. ANd the phone is now extreeeemly laggy and unresponsive
Well this is brilliant! I have made it even worse. I thought thought, that maybe the kernel is the cause of the issue, downloaded the SGS KErnel flasher and flashed the CF-Root-XW_OXX_JV1-v1.3-BusyBox-1.17.1. After the reboot the phone is stuck at the GalaxyS logo and is not booting. I can get into the recovery and the Download mode but the phone is still not being recognized and when I try now to wipe/data or do a factory reset I get loads of red errors Please tell me that I didn't brick it yet

Do you have a rom on your sd-card? Flash it trough recovery.
Or doesn't recovery even recognize your sd-card?

Well, there seems to be only a one solution.
You have to uninstall the phones drivers, and install them again.
Then plug your to your computer in download mode and it'll install rest of the drivers.
Then Odin should be able to recognize your phone and your good to flash stock.
But you really, really have to uninstall the drivers
Well I did it before. I uninstalled all related to samsung from the add/remove programs. Rebooted the pc and still getting this error. In the properties of the device in the device manager I have "unknown device". I don't have any drivers on the pc as far as I see. I install the drivers from here. Connect the device again and get the same error

Hmm.. I did change the computer.. Maybe you should put the drivers on a flash drive and go to your friends computer to flash.
The thing is that he does not have the drivers installed before either.
Don't know why it worked for me but... it worked.
I am going to try the last thing - I have a System backup from the time I definitely didn't have them on the PC and see if this helps....
Nope.... Didn't help.... I am completely desperate. Maybe anyone would have another magical solution?
Guys! ANy idea? Plzzzzz. I'd do anything to get it back to life
Me too i get "unknown device" when attached with usb in download mode...ive been trying to get it back workin for a week now...tried everything...which means i can't flash it to gingerbread
Anyone got any ideas ?
I have tried different PC's and it's the same. Is there maybe a way to reset the device somehow?

Hi!
I have a similar problem.
For few days, I cannot connect my SGS to my Notebook.
I have windows 7 x64 installed, and it has never had any problems with connections.
Now, I don't know why, but I cannot connect it.
I tried to connect it to another computer, which has windows 7 x86.
And it was succesfull!
Now, it seems, that I don't have a hardware issue, but I cannot imagne, how I could solve this problem.
I already tried these:
- remove drivers/programs
- tried other USB slots
- downloaded newer USB driver for x64
- removed USB drivers (all of them)
- unplugged my notebook for over 5 minutes (also removed the battery)
Every time I plug my SGS to my PC only this message appears:
"unknown device" - or something similar, because I have a hungarian windows 7.
Sorry about my english.
Has anyone any idea?
Thx for advance
using ....XT1068
Hey guys im a newbie but pls help me

I tried downgrading to kitkat but still no help....and even contacted customer support but they didnt helped
( my mobile is getting detected in AP fastboot mode without any problem....i flashed kitkat using it..) PLs help
Do you have Motorola Device Manager Installed?
If not then Download Here: Click Here
Yes it is installed properly
Ok.
First check this : First open Settings then navigate to Storage and touch the upper-right corner for the USB computer connection options. Make sure Media device (MTP) is selected.
If this doesn't work then well you need to update the driver for your phone which your computer is using. Go to device mangaer on your pc and click on your phone name and update all drivers(left click to see options).
Still not working
It worked for half hour and then gone again
I'm not 100% sure but i think since i updated my Z3 Compact to MM via my phone updator i haven't been able to connect any flash drives via OTG. now the thing is in setting > USB Connectivity , the only option is Install Software while i have seen couple of other options in other phones in 6.0.1
is it possible that if i re-install the stock rom (6.0.1) via my PC the problem would go away??

You should be able to connect flash drives via OTG.(File Commander recognizes it well on my 6.0.1 firmware)
As for the USB Connectivity setting, it changed on 6.0.1 and 4 connectivity options will appear on your screen whenever you connect it to your PC when you connect it through your USB cable.

Are you on 6.0.1? If yes, then Install Software is the only option you should find in USB Conmectivity settings! That's how it's built....sony removed the options and you have to choose usb Conmectivity whenever you connect your phone to your pc!
As for the USB,did you try File Commander?!

It could be a faulty usb otg cable...you can try using it on an other device and see if it works there. If it does, then your device has the problem, but unfortunately, I can't suggest you a solution other than flashing stock firmware.

Looks like your device has a problem then, or your usb otg isn't compatible with your device. Try reaching Sony Mobile Support once whenever you find time here.
When I plugged in my T-mobile LG L90 D415 into PC using USB cable, why didn't my PC detect anything? All it did is charging the device.
Already installed LG USB driver, PC Suite, and nothing is detected. There is no exclamation mark in PC device manager either.
In smartphone settings, all I see is Storage, no USB & Storage option like all other devices I owned before.
I reset the phone and start over and nothing changes.
Another thing is that the device always say there is a system update and already downloaded 82MB file, yet everytime I try to update the device, it always fails.
What gives?

No difference.

Are there 2 types of USB cables?

How to tell the difference?
Got 2 cables and both can only charge the device.
Being swapping cables for my mom & dad's devices, but they are not with me now.

I think I'll send you a kdz for the d415 variant of an older version with stock KitKat. If you go into download mode and flash it offline with the instructions somewhere here on XDA. Just search for it. Then it should work. But first make sure your phone is detected in download mode.

Also look for a lg USB driver download thing. This makes the USB act like a virtual USB CD drive to get the drivers and see if it works. If you can't find a setting to change the USB probably does not have data. But check with download mode.
Finally have time to test again and found that USB cable is the culprit. Don't know why I didn't discover that earlier.
Anyway, I managed to root the device after several tries (since the Kingroot that came with the system sucks and not compatible with many apps) and flash it with SlimROM 7.1.2 with Nano Gapps and it looks absolutely slim and beautiful!
Hope it works for me. Cheers!

I see, have you tried clearing the cache of MTP Host from Apps in the System Settings. Also try disabling USB Debugging.
I have this same issue using LOS 15.1. The solution is to go into Developer Settings and enable MTP using the 'Select USB Configuration' option. Then when you plug in via cable you will get the notification as normal. The problem is you have to do this every reboot, otherwise it's the same situation all over again. No Notification on plugging in and no way for your PC to see the device as it defaults to Charging mode.
I have "select USB conf" set as default (charging) and never had this issue. My PC sees the device even if I don't change the mode, I just don't see any files then. What drivers are you using?

I just installed the Official Oneplus drivers but it didn't help. I didn't think it would. The generic Windows 10 drivers were working fine with LOS 14.1. As you said, the PC does see the phone just fine, but not files until MTP is enabled.
It's the lack of a Notification when plugging in that's the problem. Without the Notification i can't switch from Charging to MTP mode. I've tried all Notification levels too. The only way to get the Notification to appear is to use the MTP setting in Dev Options, and then it works.. until next reboot.
Edit: Enabling 'USB Debugging' seems to be a working fix currently!

I spoke too soon about USB Debugging working. It doesn't help across reboots. Gonna Clean Install now. Hope you find a fix.
Clean install didn't help me. Just Google 'Oreo no mtp' to see how common this is.
I have a Nexus 5X on Oreo that doesn't have this problem. Other N5X owners do have it. It's totally random.
Good news everyone...
