[Q] Lollipop and DVFS - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys!
I am new to Samsung phones but NOT new to advanced Android use and development! When I first got the Note 4 (running stock, then FireKat/SlimKat), after ~20 minutes games/3D apps would start running like ****. I installed Wanam Xposed and disabled Samsung DVFS. This completely alleviated the problem.
I'm now on CM12 nightlies, and while it's AWESOME, after ~20 minutes games run like ****, as before. I want to disable DVFS (if that is even a thing on CM12?!) but Xposed isn't compatible with 5.x.
Help!

You don't need it for CM. DVFS was specific for TouchWiz.

Xposed - Lag Maker ?

So I've got a question about Xposed and probably it's modules. Can Xposed cause noticable lag on the phone just by being installed (as I've read elsewhere) or is it just the installed and activated modules that can cause the lag? Please take a look at the screenshots below to see which modules I have and possibly tell me if some of them are famous for making the device lag a lot. Thanks -->
Here are the pics, I can never upload them the first time

I have a bunch of xmods & none lag, fc or stuff like that. Everything running smooth as butter. If you think that's xposed, enable the mods one by one (rebooting in the process) & find which one is causing the lag.
That's just it, I don't know if a module is causing the lag as the S3 Mini isn't one of the fastest devices out there, so it could well be that the device itself lags even on pure stock firmware. Thanks for the reply btw, I'll try the things you mentioned

[Q] Switching to ART Runtime - Side Effects?

I'm on a completely stock unrooted retail version of the Moto X (XT1052) in the UK.
The below article says switching to ART run time will speed up the overall performance of my device.
http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-speed-up-galaxy-s5-htc-one-m8-nexus-5-in-a-matter-of-minutes/
My question is, are there any side effects to doing this?
Are all the popular apps like Skype, Facebook, Twitter, etc compatible with this feature??

You should be fine --- try it! Any issues, and you can always switch back to Dalvik.
The only reason most people avoid ART is because it is incompatible with Xposed/GravityBox....but since you aren't rooted, this doesn't apply to you.
Good Luck
Just tried it and it's made my phone slower than before lol.
Also my power button doesn't respond no more so I'm not able to lock my phone as before.
Facebook didn't run either.
Currently changing back to Dalvik again as I don't think the feature is properly ready yet. Will wait for the official Moto release.
I switched to ART today out of curiosity. Everything works as usual, even xposed modules and gravitybox too... I only noticed that my phone is somewhat smoother. Maybe placebo effect...

Lol, you can't have Xposed and ART at the same time. It must have reverted to Dalvik, check it

Yeah mate unfortunately that's the only option
Yup, @devilsdouble is exactly correct. You can *thank* the Xposed DEVs for this. If it didn't switch you back to dalvik automatically, you would be in a boot-loop now...and probably have to return to stock in order to recover. :good:
Xposed is not compatible with ART. Adapting it to be compatible is in the works, but it's hard telling when that will be completed.

Oh I think it'll be ready for the next version of android [emoji16]

Yesterday I did switch to ART for testing. So far, I have not seen much difference.
I'll test for a couple of weeks and post my 2 cents!
ART allegedely is better for your battery because It uses more than just the JIT compiler. It also takes a while for the apks to be reoptimized compared to how long Dalvik takes to optimize apks after some have been added or updated. The version that comes with 4.4.4 is good but ART likely won't be fully realized until Android L.
Just a little piece of advice, since I just had to factory reset the phone: do not install Monument Valley under ART. It is not fully compatible, and I after an update I got stuck on the boot screen.
Calendar lost is still an art problem - easy to solve with restart, but bugging..

[PSA]Using Xposed causes LAG!

If you are using Xposed framework on the Note 4, Secure storage will fail to process and save data, which leads to a Sensor service hangs, which causes the laggy experience some of you have been having.
This was an issue back on the S5, it is fixed by using this module XSecureStorage by @wanam or disabling S Health.
However from what I have heard this doesn't fix Private Mode.
just to clairfy...mine is laggy all the time. I am probably wrong considering it is 830am but it said s-health and private mode only...does that mean that module will only fix the lag
when using s-health?
installed XSecureStorage but S health still hang. it's really a difficult decision: use xposed for full control, or uninstall xposed for smoother operations...

What if you "freeze" S health using ROM Toolbox?. Does it still cause problems?
are you using ART or DALVIK as your runtime?

disabled S Health use TB and installed xposed back, so far no lag noticed...
Got my Note 4 last night, and it lagged right away straight out of the box.
If you boys are only getting lag after installing Xposed you're lucky!!! lol
Although I was planning to install it, I might think twice after your thread. How bad is it exactly?
For example my settings always stutters if I open it and start trying to scroll straight away. If I wait a couple of seconds, it's usually fine.
Same goes for pressing recently used apps button, and scrolling through the card stack. If I give it a second it's ok, but if I try straight away it's lag city.
So far I've found 0 difference between the Note 4 and the S4. Maybe I'm just unlucky!

First think I did out the box =)
Along with removing touchwiz, switching off certain google now features (such as "OK Google" detection), and removing flipboard.
Always slowed the animations down since the days of the Galaxy S 3. S Voice and health are the first things I remove since the S5.
It helps a little, but unfortuntely the lag is still there (well unless I leave it a split second for it to load).
But that's something I can live with. Thanks anyway. Anyone who doesn't done it, it will help.
Although one interesting side effect is the accessability options mess up, so now the calculator talks to me lol.
But hopefully that will be addressed soon. There are other threads on that subject.
Wanam xposed module already has these functions built in. Been using it since day 1. No need for a separate module guys

I don't know but I think you are posting wrong information.
I've been using xposed and secure storage on FireKat without any lagging or secure storage issues.
My Note runs buttery smooth and 100% stable since day one.
Cheers ?

If you are running a custom rom chances are the dev has already fixed the issue by editing the buildprop to secure storage support false

Yeah this pretty much, the thread was made back when Note 4 first came out and their wasn't any custom ROMS available. All of the ROMS to-date have the necessary fixes enabled.
I have both private mode and S Health running without any problems or lag. Running Firekat v. 8, Xposed. Disabling secure storage in Xposed is the key.

I wish it was as simple as editing the Build.prop file... But no, for some reason DynamicKat's Secure Storage does not work for me even though it comes with the required settings on build.prop
No matter what I throw at it, paches, fixes, editing build.prop, disabling SHealth, xposed modules, etc, it simply refuses to work.
But the good thing is that at least on Firekat it does work flawlessly as I've mentioned before.
Cheers!
wipe cache and data of s health in app settings, you will have it running again, I have no lags

[Q] Lagging,camera problem after root

Hi guys, so i just rooted my T-mobile galaxy note 4 yesterday using the guideline. However, i have been experienced some problems with the phone:
1. Increase lagging when using Go keyboard, GoSMS,launch app, sometime freeze when flip through stock launcher...
2. Softcard is not working, so i install Xposed framework and download RootCloak. I dont know if this can intefere with the system?also no longer using update software in setting.
3. The stock camera occasionally failed to launch,or if it does launch, all i see is a black screen, and i can't figure out the reason?
Please help, any suggestion at all to what maybe the cause of all this?
PS: If i want to unroot and go back to stock T-mobile rom before how can i do it? And is it possible to un trip Knox?
Thanks!

With all of those play store apps you have installed it's a wonder
that you don't have even more issues than you are already having.
Uninstall the Go keyboard and all the Go applications then reboot
your phone so you can find out whether they are to blame for your
lagging and freezing. Be sure to make the stock keyboard as default.
None of the play store apps have yet been updated for our new phones
so many of them are not fully compatible yet and some of them do not
play nice with some of the default apps which comes with our phones.
Especially the xposed and it's modules can and sometimes do interfere
with the normal operation of our new phones and some of it's apps.
The developers of xposed will hopefully start updating it soon so it will
be a lot more compatible with our phones and will no longer have issues.
I am fairly confident that if you uninstall xposed framework and it's modules
then reboot the phone you will no longer have those issues you mentioned.
And no, you cannot un-trip knox...........
Good luck!

In all honesty this lag issue is a wide spread issue, not sure if it's a phone batch issue or what but I took mine back to tmobile and even they say people have called to exchange device due to extreme lag where the phone will be un responsive, the camera won't work, switching between apps can to 10 to 30 seconds to switch, and I'm sure most these are normal users. In terms of performance the note 3 ran circles around the note 4 so far until we can a debloated custom rim, I think we're finally seeing that bloat ware be phone experience killers. Just to see the difference I had over 400 apps, xposed mods, etc installed on my note3, everything handled smooth even while trying to make it crash running a tweaked rom.

Try a benchmark test a few times. I think that ***** slaps the cpu and wakes it up. Seriously, it helped on my phone.
BTW. My geekbench score was lower than an 801 snapdragon.
so i install Xposed framework and download RootCloak.

yes, but no. I think it was more of a root problem since root broke S health which made our phones lag like a mother. I really havent noticed any lag with exception of the task manager since having it though.

I would used xposed and use wanam. Use it to use the secure storage fix. Clear s health cache and data and reboot. This will fix the lag.

Finally! All aps in MultiWindow TW 5.1.1 (using MultiWindow Commander [root])

On KitKat I used MultiWindow Manager but it doesn't work on 5.1.1. Wanam Exposed works otherwise (for the few things I've tried changing like moving the clock to the center) but NOT for adding more apps to MultiWindow, at the moment anyway.
The app that finally relieved my frustration was MultiWindow Commander [root]. :victory:
Just thought I'd spare you all the time, frustration and refund requests by letting you know which app actually works for us.
I'm using Tab Pro 12.2 SM-T900, but this app will very likely work on any 5.1.1 Samsung tablet running a TW based rom or rooted stock that supports MultiWindow natively, as reviews seem to suggest. I'm running the excellent new Tool ROM btw (it's rooted, deodexed stock with Knox disabled plus Aroma installer to choose which stuff from stock to keep or discard). Works with Xposed as well. Check it out if you have the SM-T 900.
Don't forget to hit the Thanks! button if you found this useful. :good:

Follow directions in this thread regarding Xposed and it works just fine for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...12-2-5-1-1-t3206156/post62914108#post62914108
App: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xpe.app.multiwindow.commander&hl=en
It only takes a Play Store search you know
Sorry for the late reply. I've been mostly off the grid for a few weeks.
The problem is outside of the T90x (12.2" Tab Pro Series), this thread won't be of much use or interest to those with either the T52x (10.1") or those with a T32x (8.4") Qualcomm based Tab Pro. Since Samsung have basically told their users to go fourth and multiply. Or at the least to by a newer Phablet. Which IMHO works out about the same.
