Has anybody managed to get this working on their moto X 2014 ? I have set it up under trusted devices and it recognises the NFC tag there but nothing happens when I tap the tag on the back of the phone at the unlock screen. Any ideas folks ?

It doesn't work that way. You need to put the tag in contact with the phone before powering it on. Then you should notice that the little padlock icon at the bottom of the screen is "unlatched". If you touch the tag to the phone with the screen already on it will not bypass the lock screen. Here's a video showing it on a Nexus 5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8QJLYB4ktA

I'm not sure if it's just me... but I noticed the active display on my moto x (t-mo) is not active all the time. The good example is.. when the phone display is off (asleep) and you pick up the phone or move the phone, it is supposed to display the time and that pad lock - so you don't have press the lock key to get the time.
On my phone, that works for the most part... but after a while (and I can't figure out what is the trigger/cause), the active display would stop working. When that happens and phone display is off... i pick up/move the phone... screen is still blank. I now need to press the lock button on the side to bring up the unlock screen.
I did find that rebooting the phone will fix this. So, i want to see if anyone else is seeing this behavior, or if I should see about getting moto to fix/replace it - since I just received the phone yesterday.

Do you have a screen protector?
after asking on the moto support site.. the issue may be related to one of the apps. So, I unselected all but the messaging/mail apps, rebooted and things seem to be back to normal now. Make sure you uncheck the box that automatically adds the app to active display and pare it down to the essential apps that really need/use active display.
My last phone, I was able to use various NFC stickers to perform actions for my phone, e.g.:
- Car: put the phone in the car holder, it would unlock and start the car GUI.
- Security System: hold the phone to an NFC sticker by my front door and it starts my sec system GUI where I can turn it on and off.
All this would work from the lockscreen.
I know that we can buy/make these "Motorola" NFC unlock stickers but I want to perform specific actions based on the sticker!
How can I get the Moto X to actually FUNCTION with REAL NFC stickers from the lockscreen?

Really - no one?
This phone is pissing me off more and more.
What was your last phone? Most phones I thought had to have the screen on and unlocked for the NFC to trigger.
You could buy the skip and put it on a key chain or something and then put the phone up to the other tags once the skip unlocks your phone.

You need something to keep NFC on with ScreenOff. This is usually done with a MOD. You can use this Xposed Module: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2478163
I was playing with Light Flow yesterday seeing if the supposedly LED works, well now Ambient display does not work. I have uninstalled Light Flow thinking that was the issue. Any clues? Disabled and reenabled AD, still no dice.
I had my phone set to lock after 30m, so Ambient display only works if you phone is locked with some sort of security.
There's no LED notification light on the phone so maybe it messed something up? My ambient display works without and secure lock.
Has anyone tried dyanmic notifications on the nexus 6 yet to see how it works?

It'll work if you have PIN, password or slide. Will not work if you have lock after X minutes of sleep.

I have my lock immediately anyway. I use my Motorola skip when I go out so I don't have to enter a pin or password and it's handy.

It's funny because motos site says it only works with the moto x 1st gen but clearly it works On any lolipop nexus. It works for my nexus 9 too.
Why does the phone have to be locked for ambient display to work? Do any of your devices "breathe" when locked? Mine only shows the initial notification but nothing after that unless I pick it up.
SOLVED
Hi,
I am using Moto X 2nd gen. from 6 months now and I just love it. However, there is one small thing that I keep wondering whether it is only with me or is it a bug or something.
I am running Android 5.0 and using the active display feature. When I tap the on screen lock/unlock icon, the unlock icon that goes to the bottom still shows as closed lock. It does not show as "unlocked" lock when I drag it down to unlock the phone.
I have already tried booting in safe mode and then back to normal mode again, but it does not work.
Is this a known issue, or is it just happening with me?
Thank you.
If in Active display if u hit the lock icon, at the bottom the lock is unlocked in the circle.
so by dragging you are moving from lock to unlock

Yes, that's what I was expecting but it was not happening.
By the way, I have got hold of it. It was showing as "locked" in circle when I dragged down because I am using a Pattern unlock security. So when I drag it down, it shows that my device has still got to be unlocked by using the Pattern. When I change the screen lock security to None, I can see the icon change to "unlocked" in the circle when I drag down.
Thanks to Motorola support member for suggesting this.
I hope this thread helps anyone else who is getting bugged by this.
I have my P5 which I love. But there's one annoying thing about it that I can't figure out how to toggle: When I turn off the display by clicking the power button, then when I touch the (now turned off) display again (eg whwen putting the phone in my pocket) it turns on in an "unlocked" state. The padlock on the top of the screen is unlocked and I can interact with whatever apps are displayed on my lock screen. If I turn off the display and put the phone down on a table then (at least after a while) when I double click the display it turns on and the padlock is now displayed locked and I can interact with anything until I actually unlock it using the fingerprint sensor.
So my question is: Is there any way I can make the phone lock immediatly and completely when I switch off the display by clicking the power button?
Thanks in advance

Actually yes. But I had that switched on but as it says: "Except when kept unlocked by Smart lock". That I had missed. Smart lock was switched on and I hope that was the culprit. It is now switched off
Thanks for the help!
