[Q] Tab not recognized by PC/Odin - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab (GT - P1000) that I rooted about a year ago. I've installed the 4.4.2 KitKat ROM (CyanogenMod 11) using CWM Recovery, and I now want to reinstall Gingerbread on the tab (due to performance issues).
The problem is, my PC (HP EliteBook 8460p, Win7) gives a 'USB Device Not Recognized' error in all the USB ports I connect the tab to. I've tried connecting it to a different computer, with the same results. I've used Odin to flash the stock Gingerbread ROM onto the tab before, but now Odin simply won't detect the tab when it's connected to the PC (ID:COM port does not turn yellow). I tried Mobile Odin, but it put up the error 'Unexpected Partition Layout, cannot operate'.
I've searched numerous places, but cannot find a ZIP version of the stock ROM (or any custom ROM close to it) that I could flash with CWM; the only option seems to be Odin, which is not working.
So how do I get back to the original Gingerbread ROM?
Thanks in advance.

You may need Samsung USB Drivers.

I tried installing them from a couple of different sources; it still doesn't detect the tab. I've also tried installing Kies; that doesn't work either. Do you know where I can find working drivers for the tab?

Help...ODIN won't recognize phone in download mode

I have drivers installed, I've used Odin before but now it won't recognize the phone in download mode. It'll see it when it is on though. Any help??? This happened after updating to 2.3.3 through Kies.
Just noticed that the PC doesn't recognize the phone either now. Must be drivers issue. How do I fix it???

In Kies, there are Kies Driver installer, that install a bunch of drivers for phone.
Try to install all drivers and then connect phone again.

try another usb port, that was a problem I had, Odin is picky with good or bad usb ports...

Is it possible, that I something f*ct up at last flash? Before it everything works fine. When I flashed first time, i forgot the *.pit file - odin wrote "failed" - I tried it again, but correctly - everything was ok - I fashed kernel - after that in CMW I Instaled *.zip file with Juwe's ROM 4.3.1 and my phone reboot in landscape mode... and i cant change it to normal mode.
I tried factory reset from phone - there are some red lines with this: tsf format failed on dev/block/mmcblk0p2, but when i go to CWM mode through (volUP+home button+on/of button) and i did a factory reset there - is it without red lines. Somebody ask me if i tried reflash - so i am here with my "driver problem"

lol ok then just drivers then
I know this may sound dumb, but make sure you are using a compatible cable.. i.e. does data transfer, I bough a replacment cable months ago for my damaged one under the impression it did data because I could connect and transfer to USB (I know this is data)... but kies would not recognize the phone.. I ended up buying a real replacement. Problem solved.
I think, that my biggest problem is cannot connect to kies and odin...
i am in the end... so cabel is the same, i used it when i flashed befor - as i said my problem is in phone, not in drivers or cabels. Is here something to do flash without this drivers?
can you confirm there is no issue with your USB ports on your computer? just seems odd it wont recognize your phone in download mode... you are placing it in download mode when using odin right?
I just did a flash with mine to a stock rom,
Same problem, I can get to DL mode, but it does not recognize,
When I am in the standard Tab OS, with USB as mass storage, I can see if fine.
Odd how it just happened as well. I'd like to follow this thread see where it goes.
*edit reinstalling drivers does not resolve the issue,
- have not tried installing keis again yet though,
- also Odin recognizes it in Recovery Mode
*edit again - sorry guys, didnt realize i was in the i9000 forum, hit this on a google search and replied
I can go to the download mode throught 3-buttons combo - but odin recognize my phone - the same thing is in kies - it's vicious circle - i hope flash help me - but I cant do it, because i cant connect to odin
Unfortunatly I am out of help... I thin kyou may need someone who knows ADB and the phones system internals if ODIn won't recognize your phone in Donload mode... I have had my phone in several bad situations(Fried internalsd/bootloaders) but download mode would always connect me to ODIN..
Last try, try different versions of odin, 1.3 - 1.8 apparently it can be testy with different versions of windows.
Try the drivers & Odin 1.83 from my signature. Works all the time.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S stuck on boot screen

Hi, i'm noob in Galaxy Flashing so this is my problem:
I have a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 blocked from italian carrier.
Few times ago i tried to enable 3-buttons download/recovery mode installing Aries_P-SBL.tar.md5 with Odin. The installation finished successfully but the download/recovery mode still didn't work.
After some reboots (where the phone worked right), now the phone stucks in the boot screen (the one with Galaxy S GT-I9000 SAMSUNG).
With the JIG i can enter download mode but my computer can't detect the phone (Windows feels my USB connection but Odin does not detect it).
If i connect the phone to the computer in normal mode (not in download mode, so with stuck screen), Kies can detect the phone but says that it can't talk with phone in this way(like if it was in USB Debug mode).
I Hope someone can help me
Restart your computer>>>Go to task manager and close all Kies applications (I usually have 2 Kies running from startup)>>>Start Odin and select all the files>>>Put your phone into download mode and connect>>>It should be detected now.
If it is still not detected, close odin, disconnect phone. Start Kies go to tools and install drivers. Once this is complete. Close Kies and start from the top of this post...restart...
Solution Is HEIMDALL.....
Here Comes your solution:
You can easily back your phone with Heimdall.
It's a flashtool which is more complicated than ODIN.
If interesting, simply PM me and we will do it.
I'm Here...
Well,first go to here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755265
Second: Download 7-zip PC software & extract your official md5 firmware to obtain several other files.
Third:Search the web for a Heimdall How-To(if you didn't find,I'll provide You links)
Last:You'll flash the firmware via Heimdall & again your peace of mind will be back.
Try to reflash your phone normaly with another Rom, it should work

Hi,
sorry but i tried all the ways, Odin and Heimdall.
I tried Odin on Windows and Heimdall on MacOSX but always they say
"Failed to detect compatible download-mode device."
I'm sure that phone is in download mode
May i install drivers on OSX with Heimdall?

Rooted my GT-I9000, and now it has crashed!
First off all my Galaxy I9000 was trying to software update via Kies, and it failed. The it would not start, but i managde to root it with a stock "VOD" rom.. But after a while i wantet to root it back to "Nordic Version"... But i could not do this, because the 3 button combo dont work on my Galaxy I9000 anymore.. :/ So there for i baought a USB JTAG, that puts it into download mode. So far, So good But when it is finished rooting, it fails to mount/unmount a bunch of stuff.. I have a picture of the screen, so that you guys can se what the problem is. Bricked i9001! Help!

I have a problem with a i9001. I tried everything I can think off. It always stops when flashing in Odin 4.43 on:
<1>setup connection.....
I tried 3 different computers and all usb ports. Reinstalled Kies, installed only the samsung drivers. Rebooted several times. But still stops ons setup connection in Odin. I used several flashfiles: the seperate ones and the complete package....
I also used the jig to get the i9001 in download mode. To get the phone in Download mode is no problem, it works with the jig and also with the key combination. When i try to power the phone normal i get the Black Screen of Death. I also tried 4 different usb cables.
Can someone help?
Thanks in advance....

Did you try another ROM for flashing? Or did you try to just flash a recovery and boot into that recovery? If you run ODIN with Vista / 7: did you right click and run as administrator? Did you take out the battery of your phone for about 10 min and then insert USB and battery back and try again...?
i had that problem with two phones, my i9000 and my friends rogers infuse. try different usb ports on the computer. if that dont work, look up some stock firmwares for you phone and try to flash them. i find the original stock roms work best for fixing this. just be calm, there is always a way to fix it as long as you dont fry nothing.

[Q] S-5830L not recognized by PC

I'm trying to connect my S-5830L to my PC, and when I do, the phone charges, but there is no option to access mass storage.
It's recognized in Kies, I even update the phone with it, and a hidden removable disk appears when I connect the phone, yet I still can't access the storage.
I tried installing both the driving independently and via Kies.
There is no notification about it in the phone, and I have USB debugging turned on, and I also tried with it off

Go to Recovery Mod and do a "Wipe Data/ Factory Reset" & "Wipe Cache Partition". That should pretty much solve the issue. But if the issue still exists, try flashing the stock rom using odin. Here is the link on how to install stock rom using odin along with all firmwares,

I completely agree with @amtdwan. It's most probably the drivers that's causing the problem. Updating/ reinstalling it will solve it
I removed the ones that Windows install automatically, and reinstalled the Kies ones, but each time I connect the phone to my PC, Windows install the drivers again.
Is that a problem?
Also, the USB utilities setting is greyed out. And I can't seem to open the file explorer with Kies, it says "drive not valid".

So does "Turn on USB Storage" pop up now in your phone when you connect it to PC? Did you use the firmware from the site I mentioned? This problem could be caused if you have a faulty firmware. Also make sure you have a working sdcard. Sometimes faulty sdcard also cause such errors. Last but no the least, you can use the USBMassStorage app I developed. Samsung galaxy tab sgh t849 can't connect in download mode.

Hi all...I have a very big problem. when I plug my tab into my pc it recognizes it with no problem until I try it in download mode the I get a message saying that my usb port has malfunctioned. Then I switch back to any other mode and its connects again with no problem until. I don't know what to do. I have most def tried that but no good. I'm stumped, I wish it was some way to install a recovery from my sdcard.
I guess you only have 3 (or 4) options to try:
- try heimdall
- try on another PC
- boot a livecd linux and and install heimdall on it.
(if you have a spare hard disk, just remove the current one, and stick a new disk and install a clean OS)

Sounds like I really only have 2 options
1. Try another computer because I've tried Heimdall and it's the same as Odin. It connects to both when in normal mode or even Samsungs recovery mode but when i put it in download mode, it's a no go.
2. Just stay on a rooted 2.2 (which sucks)
Are you using the original cable?
Heard of some issue with non original, but I have a non original that works for me.
Also,
- factory reset, then boot to download mode, start Odin on PC, then lastly, connect the tab
- or may worth going to Device Manager, uninstall the driver, and delete the device (not sure if that is doable, not in front of a Microsoft OS), then click the scan for changes again to let it detect.

Click to collapse
Sounds like that factory reset option might work, I'm going to try that when I get home around 10:30. I'll let you know how it goes.
update.....well I tried the factory reset plan and it didn't work....In download mode I still get the same message stating that one of my usb ports have malfunctioned. I'm going to try it from another computer tomorrow.....hopefully the problem is with my computer and not the device.

I wonder if i can use adb to install cwm or twrp recovery......or if I can flash without being in download mode
