I am new to this forum,so first let me introduce myself.I am a doctor in india.
I bought this phone last year and like most users i was really disappointed with it. Intially it was froyo and then with extreme difficulty I updated to lg stock Gingerbread using its update too.I think the tool itself was buggy like most lg stock ROMs.
Anyway updating to gingerbread was a bad experiance .Too much lag in doing even basic phone use ,forget a smart phone experiance.Anyway not explaining in detail all the problems ,we all know it.
Was waiting for Official ICS release,so never thought of Unofficial ROMS since wud have made it difficult to update to stock ICS by company.
But last weak finally decided to try CM based ROMS and after some research decided to try Temasek CM7 based unofficial ROM build 132,
I must say what an experiance I had. From awesome to wow ,i am short of words to describe it .
So here i must thank everyone involved with XDA and especially cynogenmod and Temasek in perticular.
Thank you Temasek
Thank you XDA
Thank you cynogenmod
You all have made this ****ty phone into a delight to use .
I have installed " n " no of applications and still there is no lag and there is no shortage of RAM(and LAG due to IT) even after i week of using it ,which i used to have with stock gingerbread.
I must say i had been a noob and XDA and all you developers have made me into a mobile phone expert rooter ,flasher, etc.
I had few issues which i wud like to discuss, thanks in advance to anyone who helps me solve these.
I had flashed temasek CM7 build 132.and I had thought it wud also flash latest temasek kernel but it seems it didn't.
It now has kernal version [email protected] # 1
Mod version CM7-20120809
I basically want
1.A kernel with voodoo sound support
2.Ramhack
3.Good battery performance with 3G on.
4.Camera mod if possible.
Temesek could you give a small tutorial on variour kernels made by you,I looked various log changes made by you on p990 kernels but i am very confused.
Also what is difference b/w OC and uv etc
I have spent two days installing various applications on your ROM, so obviously will not like to do factory reset, data reset ,cache reset etc
before flashing any new kernel made by you.Kindly provide some suggestions on what i shud do.
Symbiosis kernel looks promising too but again don't want to wipe anything basically reinstalling all applications all over again.Any suggestions.
And yes I am sure you people in XDA wud soon release a fully functional ICS and even a jellybean based ROMS.So Now with my experiance i can say dont eeven want a LG stock ICS or jellybean even if they release it,untill then I wud stick to this wonderfull ROM by temasek
Thanks everyone and all the best to developers in their efforts on developing a fully functional ICS /jellybean based ROM.Hope to see it soon.
Hi if you already have temasek ROM installed on your phone you can flash latest symbi0sis kernel 1.1.2 without loosing any data! just flash the kernel via cwm and boot the phone - done
also symbi0sis is based on temasek kernel, works perfectly with temaseks ROM
after kernel install u can open the app GuesteOC and enable the ramhack with your preferred size in MB

Thanks for quick reply stefan.
So does that mean i dont need to do data/factory reset or cache reset before flashing symbiosis kernel or any other kernal .I have tons of app's installed ,don't you there can be bugs if i dont do a factory/cache reset before flashing symbiosis kernel. Its written in most threads that kernel flashing is similar to ROM flashing ,so data/ cache rest is advisable.
Where can i find GuesteOC app or can i use terminal emulator method as described in some threads

Np just flash the kernel without any wipes. it will wipe dalvik cache automatically. i guarantee you it won`t break your apps.
GuesteOC is included and will be installed automatically. no need for command line, everything as simple as possible with symbi0sis kernel!
if you try other kernels you might need to wipe dalvik cache first if they dont do automatically!
also u can do a backup in cwm first so if something goes wrong you restore the backup with all your apps.
Thanks stefan i will apply your Kernel today itself.Hope it solves everything ,Voodoo sound support ( i have the app with me) ramhack and good battery life too. Will post back if i face any issue.and offcourse my compliments
Also another question to you .You have said CWM backup/Restore .I did the same 3 days back before installing temasek ROM.But had forgotten to keep backup of some important SMS messages so tried to restore original stock LG ROM through CWM back up/and restore.
I Had a real shock it said that i had restored everything but my LG started rebooting again and again just stops at LG logo everytime.Even recoery was not accessible. So i had a torrid time going through variuos XDA thread .NVflashed stock froyo ROM and then flashed temasek ROM.
The only thing i missed was that i pressed backup/and restore straight from CWM app instead of going through manual recovery doing data/cache wipe and then restoring from Backup image.
Can you through some light on the serious issue that i had

Maybe it had to do with different file system (ext3 stock / ext4 temasek) -- afaik you need to flash back2ext3 or something when you want to go back to original stock ROM. However I have never done that (going back to orig stock). Next time best use "SMS Backup & Restore" (available in market) for backing up and restoring SMS after ROM change!
Good luck with the new kernel I'm sure everything will be fine.

Do restores this way
1>wipe data/factory reset
2>wipe cache partition
3>flash back2ext3
4>restore
Upgrade your cwm recovery to 5.0.2.0 or 5.0.2.8 (non-touch cwm)

Stefen your kernel is awesome.Perfect combination for temasek's ROM
I think i will stick to this ROM for a while, untill temasek or someone comes out with a fully functional ICS/jellybean based ROM.Will never flash stock LG ICS's based ROM even if LG bring it out(Hope LG release it soon that shud provide d missing drivers that we urgently need).
Temasek your ROM is d "project butter" for me.I dont feel d need to wait for jellybean ROM.And yes i already have cwm 5.0.20 version recovery installed.
Hi
I've just bought a Galaxy I9000 & wondered which is the best stable Rom to use daily,
also, do i have to change the kernel for certain roms ?
Thanx in advance
It really depends what you want from the phone but... the best full custom ROM to go use for daily use I truly believe is CyanogenMod, there are two main CyanogenMod releases for the i9000.
First of all you have CyanogenMod 9 which is based upon Ice Cream Sandwich. If you download this make sure you get version 9.1.0 stable.
Secondly you have CyanogenMod 7 which is based upon Gingerbread. If you download this make sure you get version 7.2.0 stable.
You don't have to change the kernel for either of these ROM's (or any ROM as far as I know) but you can if you want more from the phone like having the ability to overclock it for example.
If you have to ask... yes CyanogenMod 10 is available but it has not yet been given the green light for a stable release so you may want to stay away from it until it reaches stable status.
Thanx for a spot on answer, just what i wanted to know. Thanx again.
the stock one!

Hi,
I suggest you to use for some time the "stock" samsung rom, in order that you can experience what features and apps you are missing (if any). In my case, when I was on the stock samsung rom I used to change the launcher because the defautl one didn't support display rotation. But this is me: I have several friend that decided to stay with the stock rom.
I personally use cyanogen, with stock kernels. You might very well change the kernel too (if you need special features, which is not my case).
Otherwise, if you just wanna have fun, go and install cyanogen. but be careful!! remember to make a backup of the efs folder (look around here how to do), beacuse if it is dameged during flashing you night end up with an unusable phone...

When this happens we flash back to stock with a stock ROM from SamMobile or a stock based ROM, fixes lost EFS info But good shout, backups do save a lot of headaches!

I prefer the stock rom are most stable, but i will root and try to delete or freeze the unlike/seldom use stock app. personnel opinion.
Thanx to everyone for the sound advice,i quite like the stock rom.
I tried cyanogen 7.2 briefly, but when i went to the file manager,it showed nothing on my sd card when really it has plenty of music files and apps on it.
Dunno why that was, anyway back on stock for now, might try again soon. Thanx again.

Hello, I recently bought myself a new Galaxy S i9000 for mostly multi-media purposes. I was looking for a smartphone that would suit my audiophilia needs and after lots of googling I found out that this is just the phone for that, so I bit the bullet and bought an unlocked one
Came in the mail today and I need your help with this! I've had androids before so I am somewhat familiar with the ecosystem, however since I joined the galaxy S bandwagon quite late, I'm REALLY behind on Roms and such.
Obviously, since I bought such an old device, I had my reasons; which are music. I'm gonna root this soon and I wanna install a rom with these sort of features.
I need a rom thats:
-Smooth as it can be
-Has the Voodoo Sound Kernal (according to everybody, that's how one unleashes the full potential of the sound)
-....won't get rid of my unlock
I don't care for customization, games, social media, etc. I just want a rom that's smooth, responsive, and has voodoo so I can enjoy my music on the go
Thanks!
If you want to go for custom ROMs then CM 10 all the way, its nighty so is still has bugs. But is good enough for daily usage. And damn is smooth I will never go back to GB or anything else...
You can try also CM 9, there is a stable version. Look for it in the development section.
This phone once unlocked, will never lock again!! unless you want to

CM10 Definitely LOOKS smooth, but is it fast and responsive? I've seen youtube videos (the very few there are) of single core phones that can only handle CM10 somewhat OK....they are somewhat smooth, but unresponsive when it comes to opening apps and menus (lots of loading and stuff). So is CM10 for this phone fast as well as smooth?

JB Custom Rom C-RoM Mix or C-RoM BeaN are highly recommended. You won't get disappointed with these Roms.
I've tried several Custom Roms, but i found C-RoMs to be the best, very fast, smooth, responsive, and stable.
This JB Custom C-RoM was benchmarked by Ratborg to be the fastest JB Custom Rom.
The kernel (Semaphore) supports Voodoo Sound.

The Rom contains the Kernel already, so unless you want to change or upgrade the built-in Kernel that's the time you have to flash it.
Flashing of Rom or Kernel usually can be made through CWM by going into Recovery Mode.
If you're coming from Gingerbread, the safest procedure is to flash an ICS CM9 first before this recommended C-RoM (which is based on CM10 and AOKP), this is to avoid getting your IMEI invalid.
During flashing of a Rom, you will have to re-flash twice or sometimes 3x before getting successful due to Android system and Partition Layout differences.
Don't forget to backup your important database and applications via Titanium Backup or GoBackup so you can restore them back after successfully flashing the new Rom.
Good luck and enjoy flashing.
Try this configuration, i have it my self... it runs really well, is not unresponssive at all, maybe some hiccups but overall is good.

Yes the Rom contains Semaphore kernel and yes you have to flash CM9 first and from there flash C-RoM.
Semaphore kernel supports vodoo sound but i think you have to install an application that produces the voodoo sound itself. I'm not sure but you have to further research on this.

In terms of cameras, just search for one on the Play store. There should be thousands. However, can you please link to the ROM you used? AFAIK none of the current ICS ROMs have this issue, so you might have an outdated ROM. I also don't know whether Dorimanx ever released a full HWA kernel compatible with ICS, so please check that you've got the right one installed.

Well, i thought i found the perfect one, lol, thanks for the information,
And which ICS Rom do you suggesst? Ive tried nexusHD i didnt like it because its internal storage was very low, i think its just on my phone so,
Is nexusHD2 the best ICS for HD2 out there?
i think i will have to look out for some new roms..
I personally use NexusHD2, but I'm going to change soon to a JB ROM (hopefully). For internal storage you can just flash an A2SD script or install Link2SD. However, I would encourage you to try ROMs yourself and find the best one for you. What works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another person.

Amazing rom, Aroma installer, i can choose if u want odex or another ( i forgot ) ive choosen,
It was written that the boot will take a while, and it will reboot 1 time automaticly, the boot time wasnt that long, i expected a longer time, and it did reboot 1 time,
I think that rom is leading the JB roms out for mHD2 yet....

I don't like putting new roms on my device every other week and want something that just works, but i don't know how stable the CM roms really are?!
I ask because the devices is not the fastes and im looking for a way to tune it a little bit.

then stock ICS is the best cuz CM (9,10,10.1,10.2) is kinda laggy while playing heavy games
in my personal experience, the best ROM for our tab is an optimized stock ICS like this one:

You can't flash it or any other ROMs by odin, you have to install CWM through odin first,
Then you'll be able to flash it through odin.
You can find odin and CWM that can be flashed through odin in the second post in the same thread

Thanks a lot
Are current builds of CM 10.2 still laggy with Netflix? I tried it a few months back (a September build) and it worked pretty well EXCEPT for the Netflix lagging/buffering problems.

Seems pretty good on C-O-M's latest build of CM10.2. I only checked it for a minute, but it ran smooth.
