HI everyone --- just picked up my phone tonight from tmobile. however, the data drops every time i'm on a call. no 2g, 3g, or 4g indicator after about 10 seconds of initiating a call.
just trying to figure out if i have a bad phone or if others are also noticing this issue.
any feedback is much appreciated. I may switch to At&t and get the optimus g pro if this is "feature" of the HTC one

If you're on EDGE it can only do one at a time not both.

I hear ya....but it's happening from 4g to zero; 3g to zero....the data connection (regardless if it's locked onto 4g or not), just drops after a few seconds of being on the call.....
what does everyone have their data settings set to? under mobile data > network mode.....
mine was originally set to GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto....
I changed it to GSM/WCDMA AUTO since tmobile doesnt' have LTE where I live to save battery......
but the problem persists with all settings, even when I select teh LTE....
any thoguhts?

Dial *#*#4636#*#* select phone info and see if it's set to GSM/WCDMA/LTE there as well.
I had that problem. Mine was set to CDMA/EvDo/GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto from factory. I did the above and set it to GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto and it fixed it for me.

where exactly is this setting? i entered *#*#4636#*#* and clicked on the three little dots in teh upper right hand corner....then i selected "select radio band".
A window popped up with "automatic" or "usa band". I selected "automatic".....but i don't see anywhere to select between GSM / LTE, etc. within this phone settings hidden menu..
help!

yes should be set to GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto or if you don't have LTE in your are just GSM/WCDMA auto.

got it....THANK YOU TO EVERYONE for their replies....changed it now...but still -105dBm to -93dBm at best......
what's funny is that my work provided tmobile blackberry sitting right next to my HTC one has awesome signal right now.....i don't get it.....although the blackberry is a 3g blackberry at best with no 4g capability.
also, i have noticed that if i switch the ONE to GSM only, the signal jumps to -71dbm.....!!! so apparently the "4g" sucks here in northern cincinnati....
4G have low coverage in all countrys, only usa have widely 4G.
If you got 4G that means you got better internet speed not stronger signal.
Signal depends on internal antena which dosent care if signal is 2g,3g,4g.

After dialing *#4636#*#* my HTC One on T-Mobile is set to WCDMA preferred as we do not have LTE coverage yet.
Voice and Data works superfluously under "4G" HSPA+ 21. I tested both while making incoming and outgoing calls.
I was told to change it to GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto when they put LTE live in my area.

Hi there erg208, I've tried all of those settings and still no success. Only for a very short time (data will stay on anywhere from 3 seconds into the call to no more than 10 mins into the call....last night was a record with 30 mins into the call) but the moment I begin to do to much surfing or send one too many emails or Gtalk for too long it's like my phone just gives up and the data disconnects and at no point during my phn call will it ever reconnect. I have to hang up my call and INSTANTLY the data turns on with all 5 bars and an H signal. AND most times I have to restart the phn before I can get simultaneous voice and data again. Do u have this issue? May I please ask if you've done an extensive test with your simultaneous voice and data? Meaning have u actually been on a long enough call and seriously surfed the web, sent & received multiple emails, chatted on Gtalk and sent an MMS all during one call and it stay connected? That would be a real test b/c mine doesn't. And if your data does disconnect do u have to hang up the call for it to come back on?? And does it work again if you make another phone call without having to restart your phone? No matter what, having to do either of those things is unacceptable b/c I have NEVER had to with any of my previous HTC devices on Tmobile's network. And I'm a flight attendant so I'm all over this country receiving 3G, 4G and LTE signals and it does it no matter where I am, if I'm moving in a car or sitting perfectly still in the same area with good coverage. Pls let me know your full experience in testing this. I really appreciate your help! Thanks

That is not true. We have decent LTE coverage here in UAE (inside the cities at least) and great 3G coverage even on highways.
I did have a similar issue that while on 4G data would drop if i receive a call but that's because 4G LTE does not support voice and my call gets "demoted" to GSM which does not support data+voice simultaneously.
hello, I have a new t mobile htc one I got as gift (never opened). My old phone was an unlocked samsung galaxy nexus using a tmobile prepaid sim. I resized this sim to fit the htc one and everything worked fine( full bars for signal). Problem with this sim is that I could not make wifi calls. So I called tmobile and had them activate the new sim which I got with the htc one (Same prepaid plan, no data). i can now make wifi calls. Problem is once wifi is disconnected I only have 1 bar. If I attempt to make a call all bars raise in full, even if i attempt to check my balance the bars automatically jump from 1 to full and back to 1 bar after i see my balance. Is there a setting i need to change or is this normal? i am worried I may be missing calls like this. (All this happens when the wifi is disabled)
Sorry if the post is confusing, I tried to provide all the details but will be happy to provide anything else if necessary.

This happens with me sometimes as well...if it is in LTE mode, the signal bars are less...1 , sometime 2, and sometimes 4... as soon as i make call, the data connection is OFF for that moment, and the signal bars are full....as soon as the calls end, the data connection is activated.... the bars are less again.... try changing the data connection modes from LTE to 3G only and to 2G....and see what happens

Awesome this helps. Thanks. In my situation I have no data plan setup. No need for any internet on my phone atm. So all I use this phone for is calls and an occasional sms. Will I have a longer battery life if i disable lte and have it on gsm only? Would the call signal drop?

i am not sure, but when you dont use Mobile Data on your HTC one, there is no need to select the LTE mode.... you can select the other option always. and it might save battery as well....."might"
You will definitely save on battery if you switch to 2g if you don't use data at all. Switching to 3g frequency takes more battery even when there's no data connection.
I switched it to gsm only then disabled mobile data. Full bars now. This should work. The next option is wcdma which i dont think tmobile uses.
I'm not even 100% if the N4 has it so can anyone verify this? I have horrible service on the first floor of my house (especially my couch smh...) so I need to know that this works
If it's the T-Mobile version, then yes you have Wi-Fi calling.

WiFi Calling Not Working
Just got my Tmo Samsung Galaxy Note 4 today after Pre-Ordering and Jumping from the Note 3. Decided to go with the SIM Card that came with the Note 4. Got the phone all set up and connected to WiFi and received "ER081 - Unable to connect" Error. Called Tmo and after checking my 911 info and verifying the new SIM Card was registered and such I got patched to Tech Support and reverifed everything. Popped out the battery while he reconnected the phone to the Tmo Network, same error. I have the Tmo Asus CellSpot along with another router as well, same error on both routers. The funny thing is they attempted to send some type of Verification Text Msg and I received "Content not supported" on my end. Anyone else having simular issues? I have good signal throughout my house, its just the matter of a major feature not working on a brand new phone. Tech Support said to give it till morning and call back if it still is not working. texting doesn't work when I have wifi calling enabled
I suffered from the same problem and it seems to be a permanent problem as no amount of help from T-mobile could rectify the issue....so the phone goes back to be replaced hopefully by one with a little more luck!!! Ill be interested to hear how you get along with it!!

I found WiFi calling and text work. The voice had a lot of drop outs on the note 4 however. My wife's note 3 is perfect on WiFi calling without a hint of a drop out.

I'm starting to believe that TMO's version was not ready for release. I am now also getting the ER081 message, slow data speeds (as in <1 Mb/s with the LTE icon lit). These problems have really dampened my enthusiasm for the phone. :crying:

I managed to find that using another phone as a hotspot actually allowed me to get wifi calling...strangely though the cellular signal did not grey out.....when wifi-calling is enabled as preferred on others' note 4s, do your cellular signal stay on too?!
My Wifi calling took overnight to become active, probably because I'm a new customer and my account was still being provisioned. I have both the Wifi and cell signals in my notification bar.
People with the ER081....
You can try to following:
If your connected to your Wifi Network.
Go to Phone - Setting - Call - Wifi Calling - Switch it off and then back on.
This would re-enable the wifi calling feature and you will see the error go away.
Not sure why it gives the ERO81 code, but I have it come up as well.

First thing I tried. No joy. But, the problem seems to be intermittent and not permanent for me.
My problem is a little different. I get the wifi calling icon, but when I make a call, the other party can't hear me. When I turn it off, everything is A-OK. I'm not sure how to remedy this.
Call t mobile and tell them when new Sim card was activated WiFi calling was not set up perfect. Then before last step tell them to refresh you on network.

I had an issue with my text messages using the SIM card that came with the phone. I returned to the store and they told me there have been issues with those Sim cards that are ISIS enabled due to the security measures. They gave me a non ISIS one and now mine works flawlessly.
I'm getting frequent Er081's on my TMobile Note Edge. I've tried 3 different ISPs with speeds from 10m-500m, tweaked the QOS and COS on each, multiple wifi's etc.
It will usually initiate the call. But it won't be long before call just drops, anywhere from 15-60 mins in. My calls are always long (>30mins), and I've yet to normally terminate a call. Of course I'm now getting asked what's going on.
On one occasion, the ER081 stayed on the drop-down and wouldn't go away until I rebooted phone (Edge).
IMHO this is a wonderful feature, but TMo is not ready for primetime on this one? Is it true Note 3's and older phones work fine?

Note 4 works great. It might be an issue with edge. You might wanna ask in that forum. Also contact TMOBILE sure they will help

Disable WiFi calling, go to app and clear cache and data, power cycle phone, enable WiFi calling and try again.

I've been stock, Dynamic Kat, Fire Kat you name it.
So long story short, I have little to no signal in my room (2/10 calls will go through) the rest will go to voicemail and won't even give me a notification someone called. I also don't get any data or extremely slow when I'm lucky
So I tried the T mobile LTE signal booster and I can finally get data on my phone at slow speeds of 3mbps or even goes to 1 sometimes (I get 8mbps in the living room)
So now I still get random voicemails from my job or friends, I don't know how often this happens but it does happen....I always see a random voicemail without my phone ringing Wierd thing is I get FULL LTE or 4G bars
I tried using wifi preferred for wifi calling and cell data preferred and still happens, I even reseted my APN by deleting it, turning it off and taking the battery out so the APN would reset (I also added 80 to one of the apn settings, seen a thread this would help with texting and receiving mms) Do you guys use ipv4 or ipv6?
. I never had a problem like this with AT&T do you guys have any idea what could be wrong?

how long did it take? or can I go to a store?
Overnighted a phone to me., it was a issue that sounded like hardware issues no matter how many roms I flashed or odin

My wife has poor service at her work and it seems that wifi calling/texting is blocked through the network there as it works everywhere else. The IT guy is a **** and no help. The texting part is more important., but is there a way to change the outgoing port to another that may be unblocked? I'm newer to tmobile so I'm not familiar with exactly how it works yet. I believe she is getting an error reg99 when she is on the network there. Any help or advice is much appreciated since I'm my household IT guy and I'm tired of hearing about it!
You can't do anything to change the port.
Does her phone have coverage if she leaves it in her car? She could do that and use MightyText on her desktop (if not blocked by dickish IT guy) to enable text messaging.

Yea I tried that. The odd thing is works at home so it almost has to be a work/network issue. I'm confused on why it would be a reg99 error though. I belive thats related to 911 address issues. Tmobile has sent 2 updates to her sim card but no change.

I actually started with that process, and Tmobile updated her sim, but same thing. I was hoping there was a APN change or something to change the outgoing direction. I was unaware that wifi texting uses specific ports or maybe they block all uncommon ports on their network. It sucks cause she had a paid for unlocked ATT s4 but the service was crappy. We upgraded for the wifi calling feature and it still doesnt work. I appreciate the help.
It's take your signal booster to work day.
Have her call Tmobile and get one.
Eg
"My signals no good."
Plug it in out of site. "Behind a plant."
Have her not log into the WiFi at work.
Installing outside (non-corporate) equipment at a lot of companies is a major NON and usually grounds for a trip to HR.

Thats an idea. They are about 100 bucks right? Passing it by HR first is definitely a good idea. Its a shame there are so many road blocks for this to work. In this case it is not necessarily Tmobiles fault. The tools are there to overcome the issue. For what its worth, I'll dig deep into options and report back in case someone else has this issue. You don't pay for the LTE booster, you just pay a $25 deposit until you return it and they will give it back to you. If you break it or damage it, you will pay about $100+
I have one in my room, I get full bar in my living room and 10-20 mbps but in my room I get 0 signal (they said my room is at the edge of the lte tower and edge of a 2g tower which sucks) So I tried the wifi calling router they have, didn't do any better than my regular router because my room is far from it, so I returned it.
Now that I have an LTE booster, it helped it a lot. Some days I get full LTE bars and 10mbps which is rare, most of the time it shows full LTE signal and 1.20 to 1.50 mbps, sometimes it gives me a 4g signal with slow speeds.
At the end of the day, it's t mobiles network that is the problem (I can't complain because my sister is paying for my bill and paying for my Note 4) Even with wifi calling, I would get voicemails and find out someone called me and my phone didn't even ring or give a notification. Same with an LTE booster, T mobile has great service outside the house but the only problem I have is inside buildings

At the end of the day, it's t mobiles network that is the problem (I can't complain because my sister is paying for my bill and paying for my Note 4) Even with wifi calling, I would get voicemails and find out someone called me and my phone didn't even ring or give a notification. Same with an LTE booster, T mobile has great service outside the house but the only problem I have is inside buildings

I wonder if would be possible to set google voice account and send messages to that number (google voice) while she is on wifi.

Lol WiFi at work does mean that all of data is potentially able to be packet sniffed, I.T. dept love to packet capture, lol its their job. Have you tried VPN if the work network would allow?

I had considered that but I'm not really familiar with enough. I didn't know if it would work. Doesn't it also slow down the internet speeds depending on the service? If her work was close enough I would try one of the network sniffer apps to see how things were working but I'm not even sure yet what ports are strictly for wifi texts and how it differs from calling.

We do just gmail eachother if its important, but texts from other people is the concern. If she doesn't go out for lunch, when she leaves its a incoming text explosion sometimes. Rarely is it an important text but you never know.
Like I said give a try to google voice. When using google voice you can send and receive texts on your desktop too.
