Yesterday I was with the family and friends when suddenly the conversation got more interesting when a friend placed his brand new iPhone 6+ on the dining table.
So, as expected some guests mentioned how superior it was to many other phones including (dare to say) my trusty Note 4!!!
I started laughing but let them talk all their nonsense.
Some asked about the "new" features of his new iphone 6+ and after a few minutes, he started praising about them, but quickly ran out of words.
Everybody was awed and impressed about the new iPhone 6+, taking turns to inspect the new device!
Now it was my turn to talk about the Note 4, so after what seemed like a good 20 minutes of me doing a quick demonstration of almost every cool feature of the Note 4, I managed to convince almost everybody about the Note 4 supremacy, but then I remembered that I had the Gear VR in my car's trunk so I said... "Ok everybody listen, I will close this stupid Apple vs Samsung argument, and I bet there will be no one here that will continue to believe such iPhone 6+ and Apple nonsense after you see and try this".
So I went to pick up the Gear VR, turned on the Chromecast enabled big screen TV, launched the Cast Screen feature on my Note 4, grabbed the Gear VR and popped in my Note 4 into it and started showing off how cool Virtual Reality on the Note 4 really is... Everybody started cheering, nervously laughing, and yelling "my turn, my turn" like a 10 year old waiting his turn to play on the WII.
Everybody started taking turns while others watched the action on the big screen tv!
They were mesmerized to say the least... Totally blown away of this technology, including the pro-Apple people of course!
And yes folks, that sealed the argument of which phone has is superior technology and feature set!
What a great night it was!!! :highfive:
Nice write up-appreciate the story , I'm still on the fence on buying the VR, as I'm just not exactly clear what is does
I read your review, but I'm confused, do I need a chromecast also (I don't have one), or is that only for TV output?
Also are their movies for the format or just gaming?

Thanks Amd4Life!
No, the Chromecast argument was thrown in the conversation because I was showing off the supremacy of the Note 4 versus the iPhone 6+ in streaming live video to a Chromecast while doing Virtual Reality with the Gear VR.
Of course you don't need it at all. The Chromecast can be used to stream whatever is on the smartphone screen to the TV, and since the VR can only be seen by the wearer, this is a great solution for everyone on the room to see what's going on "in there".
I was initially not impressed with the Gear VR idea and was actually thrown off by the price of the Gear VR, but quite honestly (while expensive) it really takes gaming and multimedia to the next level.
The many video reviews and photos online simply does not make justice to what the Gear VR really is, not even words can describe it. You have to experience it to understand it and imagine the possibilities.
As geeky as it is, I truly believe this is the future of entertainment and everyone that have tried it, ends up loving it and wanting to get one.
Soon you will see it on your nearest Best Buy store, I don't know if they will have a demo unit, but really, you will not be disappointed.
Cheers!
I have a 6+ and got a used Note 4 for GF off Swappa, was immediately impressed with the screen, got a Gear VR last week, used it a bit, and just bought a used Note 4 for me too. The Gear VR is pretty impressive for what it costs.
A heads up, Verizon is selling refurb Note 4's for $489 with a full manufacturer's warranty (1 year) on their website, I used that to leverage my seller, since I wanted the Verizon model. Verizon's LTE phones are unlocked, so you can use them on GSM carriers as well as Verizon.

Only issue is that verizon and at&t versions are bootlocked.
Absolutely love my VR. Bought it for movies and sooooo glad I did. It will play your mp4 movies with no problem. It will also play your home movies you make with your camera.

Damn if u thought jumping from an s3 to s4 was pointless, how do u feel bout going from the s4 to s5? What a huge let down.
As always samsung let us down for the 2 time the S4 was just like the S3 and the S5 is just like the S4 with some minor improvements come on Samsung.

They said they listen to their customers needs. Who in the fu** have they been listening to. Everything is the same besides all the health **** and the watch bloatware. I will never wear that stupid watch or let samsung train me. No 2k screen…still cheap plastic that looks worse, same ram, camera maybe a slight upgrade, speaker still on the back, and dont confuse water resistant for water proof cause that **** will break. Kid mode… wtf really? HTC your calling my name.
I'd take a dump on Samsung for the other "disappointing" specs but the plastic back cover isn't the worst thing in the world. It's more durable and probably necessary since Samsung phones have the removable battery (a big plus).

For me HTC is still not interesting. LG does great products now.
My future : LG G Pro 2
The big issue with the S5 and it was an issue with the S4 as well is Samsung hyped it up to be this big upgrade over the S4, but ended up being very small upgrades.
People will still buy it. It's not a bad phone at all, but I don't think it should be the successor phone to the S4.
i was hoping it would be an upgrade to my g2. but it's only mostly on par with my g2 except for the camera in which the verdict is still out on. going to wait to see what the g3 has to offer.

Cheaper manufacturer will also make phones with this specs. 5" fHD 2GB.
At half the price, choice is made !
Dear me, they missed the ball entirely.
It was meant to be about DESIGN thus year, or weren't they listening!
No-one wants a fitness aid strapped to their wrist, even Pebble is ahead on wearables.
Every so often you have to sell design. Samsung users were WAITING for this.
Too busy listening to themselves.
Really.

As an owner of the S1, S2, S3, and the S4, I am seriously considering skipping the S5. What an epic letdown.
got to agree, one almighty epic fail - what were they thinking of ? this was the ceo "our cosumers don't want cutting edge specs and design" cannot believe !!! he said that just goes to show how far away he can be from the truth i'm disappointed and that's putting it mildly- what it could have been -move on.

Why would you even contemplate purchasing old techno? The gear 2 should prove a 'better' allroud experience IF IF IF the price is right. The Gear one was overpriced.

None are worth 300. I got the Gear at 30% off and thats about the price point it needs to be.
Nothing I saw today would lead me to want either of the new gears knowing they run Tizen and how they goofed the Gear launch software. Id say the best bet would be the Gear fit but only in the 149 range.
FWIW the camera on the Gear has been priceless. So many moments that it is more useful than pulling out your phone unlocking and waiting for camera to load.

I agree the camera on the gear is great! With my 1 year old daughter I use it all the time to capture her random moments she has! :good: And no matter what they do with the gear 2 it still will not be as open at the gg1 with full android.
price for the gear watch in my country i can get a bnew at $150 USD. In fact, someone already offered to me tonight. selling at a huge discounted price since he got it as a free bundled with the Note Pro. Do you think it's a good deal? thinking of getting it since i can make use on rooting it and good combo with note 3...
$150 is a great deal,I would jump on that if I were you

i actually am not sure the G2 will be as easy to use but i catch all the shots of the kids i use to miss when i would have to pull out my phone from pocket and fire up the camera.
My only concern is whether samsung will provide support and develop new apps for the old gear now? It's not like they seemed to put a lot of effort developing apps for it in the first place! But even in its current form it ticks most of the boxes for me and battery life is pretty decent.
Plus the camera is actually useful and pretty decent in good light.

Apparently the original Gear is getting updated to Tizen too: http://www.droid-life.com/2014/02/25/galaxy-gear-update-to-tizen/
Love my Galaxy Gear from day one! Use all day, battery isnt that bad for me go easy 2 days! If Tizen means more battery life and same funcions on the watch cool! The only thing that i like more in Gear 2 its dark bezel on black model and lack of the volcano camera on the Galaxy Gear. By the way the camera at Galaxy Gear is actualy prety good... and allways one "the hand" when is need I only use my Note 3 to take important landscape pictures and things like that!
Another thing be able to make phone call with a watch its perfect when driven... i use all the time and dont have to take hands from the wheel
I don't see a reason to move to the GG2. I even see more reason to stay, we got android! Samsung would have to do a hell of a job with tizen for me to run to GG2 or even update to tizen os (like its been speculated)
The GG1 will still have its place and based on the refinements of the Gear2 like water resistance, the G2 will continue the migration of early tech. adapters.
I have a feeling that the real breakout success will be the Samsung Fit. It will likely be stregically priced to capture the segment of the market that are reluctant to tech. but interested in health. Desciding to focus on a limited, but capable level of features, that have demonstrated merit, and still staying reasonable priced, will be a big game changer; Especially in this strange segment of the tech. market where the manufacturer arbitrarily "creates solutions to problems that don't really exist in reality".

I'll admit I was pretty interested in this when I saw it. So I watched the video and it looks pretty good, really in depth actually so when he skips over anything to do with the dialer
or doesn't bother to show it in action either from the watch dialing or receiving a call I got pretty skeptical. Then the specs listed on the website and in the video state 4GB of storage (like the GEAR) but he then states it only has 1.16gb available? While scrolling thru the settings you clearly see it says 2GB of storage. One cool thing was remote Bluetooth access to the watches camera or the phones camera thru the other device i.e. you can look at the phones screen and see what the watch camera sees. I'd love to hear your experience when you get it. Thanks, good luck!

well like i said my friend has this watch so i already have used it . its in every way like the gear yes the res of the screen on the gear is better (not much better but still it is )but were talking a $350 watch vs a $100 watch the clone is just a fast and smooth to slide threw apps as the gear but the clone is easly pared to any phone and can phone apps this watch is running full android jellybean 4.2.2 so even if i had the gear i would still use this watch but when i get this watch in next week i make my own video to demo it ok peoples
Bought one Amazon will be here tomorrow

ya its a nice watch but it has flaws
1 military time only (unless u use the analog clock)
2 watch doesnt always answer phone calls even tho it says your swipe answered it phone still keeps ringing
3 watch dies very very fast with normal use you need to charge twice a day
4 has gps yes can you use it NO!
5 play store app crashs phone everytime
6 skype fully works with onboard cam but once installed skype with make the contacts app in the watch break untill skype is uninstalled
7 can only turn watch on and off with a very frangile button so within a year it will be so warn out so hopfully some one roots and makes a kernel so we can knock on and off on the watch
2 words G Watch!!!!!
Anyone getting the Gear VR in early December? I see they released a time frame, 2 different options of goodies today. $199 for just the headset and $249 for headset, controller, unspecfied goodie.
Have you downloaded the mobile SDK and installed it on your phone yet? Have started developing games with unity yet?
I have every intention of getting this.
You can pre order on mobilefun for over a month now, but the price is higher then the one there saying. Don't even say if it includes the controller or the goodie.

Anyone know where and when you can buy the Gear VR - am I correct in assuming it doesn't require a data plan like a cellphone.
Samsung's site has a signup to get notified on release. This was the reason I got the Note 4. Not over any phone, but in general. Both my Nexus 5 and iPhone 5S were fine lol
It seems installing the SDK gets you to a "You need to update" screen that goes... nowhere.

Head over to oculus and watch the oculus connect video (kinda long winded) but they talk about a update will be pushed for all carriers, possible directly from Samsung. Also there's a separate sign-up page besides the notifies page. It let's you sign up saying you will buy the Oculus Gear VR Inovator Edition, since it's actually not consumer grade technology. This will be the first release, kinda like the DK2,even though samsung is posting it like it's consumer grade. Oculus says different though. Saying it's more for enthusiasts and developers until it's more perfected. Like having a postioning tracker and such.
OK here's the link to a different registration then the one directly on samsung website. This is after you go to oculus website and then click the link. It says in the bottom that is only available for people that order the note 4 between 11-1-14 and march of next year. Wtf. My AT&T version was bought before November 1st but my T-Mobile was bought after November 1st. Wonder if they mean for something else, even though they have a astrick next to the drop down and next to text at bottom like they go together.

I have an Oculus developer account. I'm saying the update isn't available yet so all the apps do is tell you you need the update.
BTW the dates are for the "Black Friday starts now" promotion. It's a little weird to think they restricted headset orders to only those with purchases two weeks after release. The asterisk is for "required field"

I'll probably get one from Best Buy, and not return it only if I'm still in love with it after a few weeks. The novelty of Google Cardboard wore off pretty quickly for me.

Ordered mine yesterday should be here tomorrow. I start reading some mobile news sites today and it says that the VR is "only" working on the ATT note 4 as of now and you will have to wait for a carrier update on other providers for it to work with their Note 4's. Which one did you order? And I'm assuming you ordered it straight from Pebble? I'm interested in the brown leather/silver watch. I wish Best Buy had this option in store but it looks like they are only carrying the black/black. I'm kinda waiting for them to release so that I can see more hands-on and real world vids on YouTube and such about this watch. If It was $150 I wold have already pre-ordered, but at $250 I want to do a bit more research. They do have the 30-day return policy which is nice on Pebble.

I ordered the same one. Even at $250 I didn't mind. Pebble smart watches suit me the most. I've tried a handful of smart watches and ways go back go my original pebble even though I think it's ugly. I just never liked the previous designs. I love the moto 360's look but am not a fan at all of Android wear. So when this was released it almost looked like pebble remade the moto 360 so I was sold.
What functionality/design are you looking for? If you're not sure it couldn't hurt to try a couple and return them after a week or so.

That ring around the outer edge of the screen is not... screen right? It's just a fixed piece of ... material? Not e-Ink? Every single picture I see of the Pebble Time has it so I assume it doesn't change.
Just got my PTS a few days ago after paying $250 and waiting 6 months.. Are they going to be offering a free upgrade or something? Are they seriously asking for another $250 for this?
Mine finally came in and I like it very much. It is very sleek and I was astonished at how light it is compared to some of the other smartwatches I've used. For sake of comparison I've owned the OG Pebble, Samsung Gear S2 Classic and the Moto 360. I think the black design of the round is kind of ugly but the silver with the leather band is quite nice. Oh and the quick charging works very well so far, we'll see how it goes with time. I just charge it while I shower and I've yet to have an issue with battery life. I'm still waiting for mine, so I'd love to see pics and reviews, and what apps work with it so far. I'm waiting for the small silver with silver band. So far no sign of it at all...

Awesome! Mine it supposed to arrive Saturday. I can't wait already. This will be my first smartwatch. I did end up going with the sliver/nubuck band.
I have been using it for a little while now and I will tell you all what I found.
Design
I am a big fan of this watch I think it looks great. I also love the band, even though people knocked the included leather band, I found it extremely comfortable. It is easier to put on and feels far more comfortable than the included band for the Moto 360, OG Pebble, or even the Gear S2 Classic.
I think the main element that is drawing me to this watch is since it is so thin it is the most comfortable to wear throughout the day. It is easily the best looking of all the Pebbles (in my opinion). The only downside I see with the design is since it is so thin there is not as much room for the buttons. I find that I am pressing these buttons inadvertently throughout my day. All the sudden my Pebble will start the music on my phone randomly ( this happened only twice in one week). So that is one downside. The other is I feel like I have slightly big wrists so the smaller watch face size feels slightly out of place. Other than those two minor complaints, Pebble knocked it out of the park with this one.
Software
If you've used other Pebble Time iterations there isn't too much of a surprise here. It runs well, the animations are amazing, and I am a big fan of Timeline. It was every so slightly slow. coming from the lightning fast Gear S2 Classic I feel like I have to wait for the software to catch up. However, the Pebble's software is far more stable than the Gear. I had my Gear fail to respond to messages, update information and other annoyances during my time with it. I never had to worry about the Pebble not working.
I do wish that Pebble included a stock way to create text messages. At the moment you can only reply. So I use Pebble Dialer's third part app to alleviate this. It is not a perfect solution however.
I was pleasantly surprised at how well the voice features worked. I was worried it would never understand me, but is actually more accurate than my Gear S2 Classic. Not all the developers made round versions of their apps though, I will attach some pictures later of what apps are available. I do want to say that I never had a problem finding apps I wanted to use. All of the things I want on my smartwatch I had available to me. Hopefully more developers will update their apps to work with the Round.
Battery
I was a little disappointing in that the battery got neutered. What I was pleasantly surprised to learn though is how quickly it charges. I wear this watch every day and go to sleep with it. I run Morpheuz's sleep tracking all night when I wake up it usually has around 20-30% left. Not quite enough for another full day but I put the Pebble on the charger and shower. When I get out of the shower I am at 100%. So effectively, I am never worried about charging it. Now this means you will have to include your charger for long trips but this is not a big deal for me.
Conclusion
Overall, I find this watch extremely capable. I am sure you will all love it.
