[Q] 4g Brazil - UK - Moto X Q&A

I have a moto x 2013, which was purchased in Brazil, where its 4g worked fine. Now here in the UK, with "EE", I can only get 3g connection.
I was wondering if this might happen due to some blocking on my mobile or something similar.
I really have no idea why my 4g does not work in here.

In theory they are the same bands.
That's why I asked.
Brazil and UK use the same bands for 4g

[Q] Usable here in Europe?

I know this device is US only (lucky you!) but I live in The Netherlands and want one. So I am thinking about buying one on Ebay. I am not familiar with US bands so my question is: Does it matter which one I buy, are they all usable here in Europe?
Thanx!

Who is your carrier?
I havent seen an official specs sheet specifying the bands that the X operates on but its safe to assume that you would need a T-Mobile variant of the phone as it will support the 2100 band that carriers use for 3g in Europe. An AT&T version should work, but 3g is no guarantee since AT&T doesnt operate on the 2100 band. Any GSM version sold stateside would pick up EDGE regardless.
The Moto X will work in Europe up to HSPA+ speeds since the device supports 2100mhz.
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Motorola-Moto-X_id7885
I have imported AT&T and Verizon devices to the UK before (the LG Optimus G Pro and the Droid DNA) and both phones connected to HSPA+ on EE. The only thing that wont work is LTE since the bands are incompatible. I will be importing an AT&T customised Moto X to the UK soon hopefully.
Perhaps try the international one (such as the model here in Canada), being international maybe it would have more bands accessible to it.
The rogers one have 2600 mhz lte band... And is 900/2100 umts... Will work in europe for sure

Which Moto X to use abroad?

I am going to buy a Moto X in the US and use it abroad. May I get some suggestion about which version to buy other than the Dev Ed because I managed to get a promotion code which can only be used for MotoMaker ones.
Is there any version that is unlocked for sim cards other than the carrier indicated?
which version is easier to root and unlock the BL of Moto X?
Thank you very much.

I'm going to Mexico in January and I have the Verizon Dev edition; as far as I know, it has the same internals as the standard moto x, only the bootloader being unlockable is different. It's my understanding that Verzion phones come carrier unlocked, and the new ones (including the x) have gsm bands as well as cdma and LTE bands. My mexican (telcel) sim card shipped today so I should find out soon. These are the bands included in the verizon moto x:
Network: LTE, CDMA/1xEVDO Rev. A (800/1900 MHz)
LTE B13/4 700/1700
Global Network: EDGE/GSM (850/900/1800/1900), HSPA/UMTS( 850/900/1900/2100), HSDPA 42.2 Mbps (Category 20), HSUPA 5.76 Mbps
As long as your overseas carrier offers one of those you should be fine. Also, if you're about to buy, I'd hold off for a week if you can. I hear wood backs are coming to moto maker.

Have you confirmed if it worked or not? I am thinking of sending a few to Honduras to run on Claro and it looks like they should be able to get nano sims there since Claro offers the iPhone 5S. They currently all have Droid 3 phones.
I've got an ATT Moto X, proparly unlocked; works fine in Europe, w/o any issues! Few ATT spamware (phonebook, backup) disabled, everything else is just fine pure Android experience. Got mine from Ebay.
Best to get the T-Mobile Moto X. Why is because it comes unlocked for GSM networks right out of the box and furthermore, it doesn't even have a carrier logo on the back.
I got one and its happily working fine in Malaysia with no network issues.

I believe the T-Mobile one is the best global solution as xylencia mentioned, it comes carrier unlocked (not bootloader unlocked, as some confuse the difference). I just took my moto to Canada and got a nano Sim from telus, paid $30 for a month and its working great.
I moved away from Verizon because their phones don't work on any other network (unless things have changed recently)

Verizon LTE devices come sim unlocked for GSM carriers. It's part of an agreement with the FCC. You can use it stateside and globally.
T-Mobile or the Dev gsm is best for travel other than for Korea and Japan and even then you will have 3g

Cool. Moreover, I actually used LiveChat with a Motorola rep and she confirmed that only T-Mobile's version comes carrier unlocked out of the box. Even though NO CONTRACT options are also available with the other carriers.

That sucks. I am pretty sure T-Mobile S4 had band 7... ..I checked Nexus 5 also doesn't have it.
Well if u really need LTE on 2600, just buy the ATT version and have it unlocked by a third party. Probably cost u something like ten bucks.

[Q] Buying this phone in a few hours. Need last minute help!!

So I'm about to go and meetup with someone to buy this phone, but I just realized there are a ton of different variants. I'm just finding out that her phone is locked to Rogers so it's probably the XT1058 that she has. My question is: Is there a way to get this phone and specific model to work on Wind Mobile (or Tmobile's 3g network)? The band for Wind Mobile is AWS 1700.

personally i wouldnt mess with trying to switch carriers with the phone.
The Rogers phone can be carrier unlocked. I have one, it's unlocked and working on telus, lte and all.
But, better do some searching, cause I thought I read somewhere that it won't work on wind. Maybe I'm wrong, but better look into it or you may be disappointed.

OP, based on the replies here, if you have yet to go through with the purchase, be sure to read up on the complications of unlocking the device for other carriers before making the decision that this phone is for you.

A Rogers XT1058 will not work on Wind, it does not support HSPA on the 1700/2100 Mhz frequency band.
To the OP, you need an XT1053 model of the Moto X to use it with Wind Mobile.
The XT1053 is not sold in Canada, it is sold in the US as the retail/tmobile/gsm dev edition.
Unlocking a Rogers XT1058 is easy and less then 10 bucks but it still won't enable the AWS bands for HSPA. It will only work on Telus, Koodo, Bell, Virgin, Rogers and Fido.
Yup ^^^
That's about what I read. And most unlocked phones I looked at before buying my Moto X said work on all carriers.. Except wind. Not just the Moto x either... The G2 was another for sure.

import tax only =))
using AT&T Moto x in Ireland, no probs! The only warning - don't take Sprint's one - you won't be able to unlock it, as it appeared to be pure CDMA device
Basically what okaban said. I'd see if you could get the GSM unlocked version (as called the T-Mobile version) but if there's an AT&T Moto X you really like you should be fine. If you see a Verizon one you like, I don't think you need to modify anything if you're not in the US. I know this was the case with my RAZR M (I had to unlock the radio for it to work in the US though).

You can't have UK LTE bands on US phones: I think that LTE might be already a factor deserving consideration in the UK. In the UK you have 800/1800/2600 MHz and the only US model which supports at least 2600 is ATT. It might be better with Latin America models but I'm not sure.
If LTE is an issue for you, I would wait for the 32gb European model.
If it's not an issue for you, you would be ok with a ATT or the Dev Edition GSM version (which I have been using since Thursday in Ireland)

4G label is how Moto X shows HDSPA+ network connection.
Yep, I'm using a GSM DE (xt1053) in Spain and it shows "4G", where 3g+-only phones would display "H".
This is not LTE, and no US model will ever work on any European LTE (real 4G) network that I'm aware of regardless of whether or not you try flashing country-specific firmware. The LTE radios are physically different. LTE doesn't exist where I am so it's not a concern, but if you have access to an LTE signal then DEFINITELY spend the extra cash for your country-specific model.

The US market is a little nuts so US phones show 4G for HSPA and 4GLTE for LTE connections. The rest of the world(most of it anyway) shows the proper protocol for the connection type. (H, LTE etc)

Does the Nexus 6 get 4G LTE in the US on AT&T's network?

Hi,
I don't want to make the same mistake twice! I bought a Ascend Mate 7 (MT7-L09) and low and behold it does not work with Cricket (my carrier) which runs off of AT&T towers. I tried to make it work with the whole HSPA+ thing but it's really slow, cutting in and out, service bouncing around, problems with the play store, etc.
So if I can find a phone I like that is large and gets 4G LTE - I want to switch. Hence my question about the Nexus 6 . I see that Verizon sells it so I assumed it was a 4G LTE phone but I see a lot of talk on here about HSPA and LTE being "released" for this phone so I don't want to to get one if it's not something that's going to get lte.
Anyone know about the 4G situation with AT&T (NOT TMOBILE - no TMobile access in my area!)?
Thanks in advance! (And sorry I'm spamming this board so much lately with my phone stupidity).
The Nexus 6 XT-1103 is sold by AT&T in the US and works with all AT&T LTE frequency bands. The Nexus 6 XT-1100 (International version) works with some, but maybe not all, AT&T LTE bands.
