[Q] Kindle is upgrading... - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good Evening
As of now my kindle has been upgrading for almost 8 hours,
I'm at a lost and have been reading various posts, but it seems more complicated.
I've been following this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2097196

My kaiser battery became not complete today, and Wi-Fi not working

I want to help please
My kaiser was promoted after the battery became not complete today, and Wi-Fi no longer works on
Please note that I tried all the radio and spl after the use of Ultimate-X2.V11.Premium
With that process to work before the battery had been replaced with the update for two days and I received the Wi-Fi
Is there a solution to this problem
umm? Fire the battery for doing a bad job?

[Q] KFHD Battery Question

I've tried search for an answer, but I can't seem to find a thread specifically for this device & issue.
My wife got a Kindle Fire HD 7 on launch day. She's been really disappointed with standby battery life. As is today - she loses 2-3% per hour in stand-by. Is that normal with these devices? If she turns wifi off during sleep it appears like it uses almost no battery.
I have a Nexus 7 - with Wifi policy set to Always on - I lose maybe 5-7% per day.
Now here's the kicker - she's worked with Kindle support and they sent her a new unit. Unfortunately she's seeing the same behavior. She's fully stock, no root, doesn't want to modify. I'm cursing amazon for gimping the battery stats in ICS. At least I can see on my Nexus who/what is using power.
I've had her try resetting the device and just leaving it not setup (no apps, just clean) does the same thing. Maybe I set her expectations too high, but I've owned a Galaxy Tab 7 Plus and the Nexus 7 - they use no where near the amount of power in stand-by. Heck my galaxy nexus was a 95% after 4 hours of standby; her fire was at 90% with absolutely no use - and I actually used my phone a bit whereas the kindle was just sitting in the living room.
Of note: the kindle itself does not appear to get 'hot' when in standby.
Did I set her expectations too high for a 7" tablet? Or is there something more going on here? The only thing I haven't tried is having her deauthorize her kindle and connect to my account (to see if it's some weird 'sync' related issue).
Sorry if I ranted a bit - I pride myself on figuring this kind of stuff out by lurking on forums - this one has me stumped!
That is not normal. I had lots of issues trying to figure out the KFHD battery drain issues and have been cautious on what to install. However if you do have location services turned on, it will drain the battery like no tomorrow. Once I turned it to off, I noticed my device will finally achieve deep sleep. Also check any apps that auto update data. The stock email is fine but things like hootsuite will keep it awake if you let it auto check for messages. I also noticed certain widgets such as Pandora may keep it from going to deep sleep even if I never ran the app. I found the KFHD to be very finicky. I went over to Nexus 7, I don't want a device that requires babysitting.
What is the best way to tell if the kindle is in deep sleep ?

Yeah - location services are off. Just did another factory restore and signed in with my Amazon account (nothing configured beyond sign in) to see if it still does the same thing. My nexus uses less power web browsing than the kfhd in stand by

I use cpuspy app, it only works on rooted devices.
Also OP, make sure your wife manually turns off the screen when the device is not in use. I noticed the battery drains rather fast if you let it time out in that 5 min. Also use auto brightness. Otherwise I'm not sure what else to tell you. Once I found my culprits, the battery life was much better.
On a side note, don't use any apps that modify wifi settings. That will break whatever hidden setting that Amazon has programmed and you can't get it back without a rest. Unlike the first edition KF, wifi will stay on, at least for exchange emails.

Yeah she's button OCD - so no problem there. She's used manual brightness set at like 30%.
I specifically did a factory reset last night on the 'old' device - signed in to my account (to remove her account as the 'cause'), charged up to 100%, unplugged and let set overnight (10 hours on the nose) - screen was off the whole time. Lost 33% battery! Gosh I wish I had a full battery stats Now she's looking at the new Nook.

Are you using the Kindle Fire HD?
Lucky you!!
My kindle fire hd 7, drains the battery even when its completely turned off (shut down).
Last night the battery goes from 29% to 9% in 15 hours while the tablet was turned off.

[Q] How to manipulate kindle battery reading manually?

I have a kindle fire but I figured this was a general question. It charges just fine but the battery reading stays at 0%. Is there a way I can manipulate the reading to always say 100%? I am rooted and I figured maybe I had to change a file in the system folder. TIA.
Idk if you can manipulate that, its output'd by the kernel in /sys/class/power_supply/bq27541 if I remember correctly. Don't remember which file has the current charge though offhand without looking at it.

Hello
thanks a lot Jcsullins : first time I use your builds and I'm quite impressed.
On my side I have too the problem of the charge mentionned by copene: 97% max.
Yet I noticed that when I connect a USB cable from PC to my TP (boths on), it doesn't charge. Is it normal ?
Thanks
yo.
wifi
Wifi works fine while in webOS with no issues at the university. I get a weak signal when ever I use android unless I am standing right next the router. This is only when I am at my university where they use Cisco routers, when at homeI have no issues with my belkin router, always a strong signal. Any thoughts on how i can fix this?

What tool or tools are people using to change dpi? I have been using textdroider_dpi for quite some time now. But I'm curious what other people use.

I picked up two brand new 32GB Nexus 7's for the TouchPad-esque price of $150 each. Now it's time to say goodbye to my two 32GB TouchPads.
I used the TouchPad Toolbox to generate one 32GB partition and installed the June or July version of this ROM. When I go to sell them, would just using the Factory Reset button in the CM settings erase all data on the TouchPads? This also means I don't have any real WebOS data left, correct?
All I want to do is erase all data on the TouchPads. I will let the buyer assume the risks of installing a new ROM.

That's right, it would erase all personal data such as downloaded apps and data but CM itself would still be there...

No I am pretty sure you would have to wipe the internal memory as well but see for yourself wipe data factory reset and boot without setting up check with my files and see what's there.

Battery drain problem after upgrading TP from CM10 to CM11
Hi everyone.
I haven't used my TP in a while so I decided to dust it off and upgrade it from CM10 to CM11.
I followed these instructions by resetting my device and re-installing Webos
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426244
I then followed these instructions to install TP Toolbox
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2756314
After Toolbox was installed I downloaded the nightly build cm-11-20141016-UNOFFICIAL-tenderloin and installed pa_gapps-stock-4.4.4-20141011-signed.
The device works amazing, except for the fact that the battery life has dwindled down to maybe 50% of what it used to be when I was running CM10. I find that even with the device was in sleep mode that it still drains heavily. Previously my TP would last 2-3 days in sleep mode before requiring a charge. Now I would be very lucky if I can get even 1 day of battery.
I did some reading and installed the A6 firmware hoping that it would fix the problem, but no luck.
Any suggestions, or recommendations on what I can to do fix this?
Thanks!
Update to a newer build as improvements are being constantly normally for the better.
Have fun.

I experienced something similar. I alos did the A6 frimware flash via TPToolbox and I am running jcs cm-11-20141002 build and the 4.4.4-20140105 gapps. I found that if I charge the touchpad on the touchstone, sometimes I get abut -170 mA when sleeping (via Battery Monitor Widget). If I charge or just plug into the normal wall charger for a few minutes, then I get about -6 to -8 mA when sleeping. I don't know what is causing the difference. I need to do some testing and see if making it sleep (pressing the power button momentarily) while on the touchstone makes a difference, or if making it sleep just before removing it, or having it awake just before removing it makes any difference. I will test and post the results.

Yes, I do have daydream enabled to be active when on the docking station. And just to be clear, it is after I remove it from the dock (touchstone) that I see the -170 mA battery drain vs. after removing from the wall charger, I see the - 6 mA battery drain. I will test it with daydream disabled to see if that makes a difference. I am wondering why the difference in sleep mode after removing from the charging stand vs from the wall charger. Both seem to charge the touchpad just fine.
Update: I turned off daydream function before placing tablet on touchstone last night. Checked it this morning and tablet appears to be sleeping at -6 mA. Will test again this evening to see if this is an anomaly or a solution.
Thanks
Just wanted to give Jc Sullins the proper thanks and respect. I've used his software to make otherwise medicore, nearly worthless tablets into well performing, useful, and desirable devices. Using Ubuntu I've debricked many tablets that were practically given away on eBay. Using touchpad Toolbox it has not only erased the useless webOS and reformatted to Android but has also reflashed the a6 firmware so these 3-4 year old tablet batteries last over a week on standby. The near flawless rom of Android 4.4.4 has given me countless hours of enjoyment, a great variety of features, and performance where friends with newer nexus devices can barely tell the difference. Hats off to this man who truly is a master of his craft.
Audio lag when streaming from live video sites
Anyone else have a problem when streaming from live video sites like ones listed below? I'm not talking about video sites like Hulu, or Sidereel where you watch videos that are uploaded, and cached. I frequently watch live sporting events online, and since upgrading to CM11 there is like a 2 second audio lag. I'm using Dolphin Browser with Jetpack installed.
Everything worked fine in CM10, and I didn't even require Dolphin back then.

Help updating Android on Touchpad
Well, it has been over two years since I first put android on my touchpad and I would like to update it. Currently, I run out of storage space because it only give me 2GB out of the 32 to install apps. I believe there is a 50 app limit too.
This is what I am currently running:
Android Version: 4.0.4
Kernal Version: 2.6.35-palm-tenderloin Dated Aug 4 2012
I have tried reading this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2712680
And this one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2756314
I am still a little confused though.
I don't care about saving anyting on the Touchpad, so a complete wipe is just fine. I was hoping that I could just install an updated version and run it. One that would remove the partition, and since I never use it anymore, webOS.
Is that something I can do? I get confused about installing the recovery and gapps. I already have those, do I have to install them again?
I would appreicate any help on this. I know you all know a lot on here, and I don't remember it being this confusing two years ago, but any help would be greatful.
I just want to make sure I do it right and follow the right steps.

anyone have battery problems with android 7 battery life?

i installed android 7 on a nook hd (7") and ran it for about 2.5 months. As soon as I installed it I could feel the battery area was warm to very warm. It continued to be like that for the 2 and a half months I had it on there.
With android 7, I would get about a day of use off a full charge. I could watch the battery % drop as soon as it was unplugged from the charger. I kept the wireless off and airplane mode enabled most of the time to try to get more life. I could get about 2 hours if surfing the web on wifi.
finally it started jumping the brightness to 100% and wouldn't let me adjust it downward (only happened on certain web pages - still worked fine for reading books, but I had to reboot and reset the brightness every time.
I uninstalled android 7 and went back to stock nook 2.2.1 and my problems vanished. Battery life is back, it took me about 2 hrs to download and reinstall 2.2.1 and I had the nook on and wireless enabled the whole time and the battery never got hot and battery is still at 97%. With android 7 I'd be in 60's by now if not 40's.
I liked being able to install Brave browser and a couple apps, but I hated the android 7 keyboard, and the whole thing was sluggish, so I'd wind up tapping and retapping and getting 2 or 3 extra tabs opened that I didn't really want...
I'm gonna run stock for a week or so and make sure everything is fine and then try CM11 and see if will run better.
I really like the nook for reading books I've got a Kindle oasis and I like the nook better. and the 9" hd+ is great for reading .pdf manuals while working on things without having to have a laptop around.
only wish there was a way to strip the google out of the Nook. android isn't an operating system, its a retailing app...
anybody got a version of android they like that isn't so hard on the battery and not so sluggish???
