So, if/when do you think Verizon will get official lollipop out? (I know speculation is pointless but idrc)
I'm putting 40% on it never comes out, 50% between 2 and 8 months from the d802 and 10% within 2 months of the international g2 getting it (probably next week).
date
My guess would be at the end of March or beginning of April. Probably around the same time the Galaxy S6 and One M9 (or whatever there going to call it) come out. Since it will probably be out on AT&T right before then.

I'm going to say mid-May 2015. Or maybe June. But with VZW, you never know, so maybe December just to screw with everyone.
I still think sometime in the next few weeks to a month since Verizon has been pretty quick to updating phones to lollipop. Granted they still throw all there garbage bloatware. But atleast google has been nice to create ways for people to uninstall it without having to root.
Have you seen this?
http://pressandupdate.com/lg-g2-android-5-0-1-lollipop-update-everything-know/
That article was useless since it tries to blame on the problems on "older hardware". The snapdragon 801 inside the g3 is not much different then the snapdragon 800 inside the g2. It's just companies being lazy and wanting people to buy a new phone every time there is a software update. Especially with the markup for the cost of these devices.
Look at this link someone v posted in another thread. We Verizon users might be first!

It's the source code for Verizon lollipop. Someone said that when the source code came out for f240l a week later the kdz showed up. They're speculating that we may be able to expect lollipop kdz for Verizon in a week

And that link is a download link but look at the source of the download. It shows lg website and the name shows Verizon g2 lollipop version number. I haven't downloaded yet but it's only 273 mb which seems small but if anyone knows about this stuff check it out and let us know.

So you find a 145mb file for maybe (the verizon variant) that you think is lollipop. And you want someone to try it on a whim. Good luck.

I think I'll still wait for the next update. Since Lollipop is so hit or miss on phones/tablets. I have a 2012 Nexus 7 which it works great on along with my nexus 9. A friend has 5.0 on his Verizon galaxy s5 and his phone is now laggy and the battery life is garbage.
Verizon sent out lollipop to my wife's M8 last night. Seemed pretty snappy after the install. Guess it will take a week or two before start noticing any small issues though.
I thought LG was supposed to be quick with their updates? How did HTC beat them to it?
Updating now, just got back from vacation, so don't need root and tether that much...
If I do, can always go back to 27A
I'm running stock verizon 5.0.2 lollipop now, runs pretty good. If you have a vs980 try it out

Hopefully that is the case but not likely. People are saying August 7th but in the end who knows.
I don't understand these people why make user wait too long that make people like me hack the phone i have froyo 2 weeks ago

Very unlikely. Verizon has not changed their support site for the Droid yet, still shows ESE81 pics. Also Motorola has not announced anything tangable as to a release date either. All I ever heard was some time late summer, and that seemed to be optimistic. There is also a thread on Motorola you can follow where Matt will let us know, most likely the same day it releases. Store techs have no clue about it, if they did we would all know the roll out date for sure.. Personally I think the Droid will get it the same time the Droid X does. That in turn will follow with the Droid 2 debut with froyo installed from the factory. " this is only my opinion, not facts"

You think so? Just with experience with the Eris and Incredible, I think it'll be a good month or two after the Droid 2 or X get it. Just my thoughts, as well, but you think they'll update an "older" device before or close to the newer ones?

You obvisouly don't know how verizon works. Verizon loves to update old phones when a upgrade is coming, it allows you to try out the OS which the new one will be running and make you want it.
Storm 1 got the update a little before the storm 2 came out.
Droid is still a very popular phone and still doesn't have any selling problems. The update will most likely come out some time early august around the same time the Droid 2 will come out.
Hi, I just bought a moto x 2014 in Brazil (not locked to any carriers), and went to update, but it says no updates are available. I read everywhere that lollipop has been out for moto x 2nd gen for a while now. am I missing something? thanks

Not all variants of the Moto X 2014 have received Lollipop update. For instance, my XT1093 has not gotten it yet. XT1095 (pure edition) and maybe some others have gotten the update already.
You'll get it, just wait till it rolls out to you. You aren't missing out on much, believe me.

well actually android lollipop is the thing i need the most in a smartphone. multi-user is the reason I bought this phone right now, I have a band and I use instagram / twitter / facebook / all things that doesn't have multi-user support like google apps, so the only way I can manage everything is with android lollipop.
I had a galaxy s4 with cyanogen lollipop, but phone just fried so I went to the store and bought the best phone I could pay that had guaranteed lollipop upgrade, and when i got home bam, no upgrade. that's a bummer.

All I can say is you'll get it soon, so sit tight.
I was actually expecting a way to force upgrade since it's been out for a while, and I'm not very patient, not good with waiting for something that has not a defined time to get done you know? been waiting forever to get it on my s4, and it never came, had to do a manual install. My phones don't usually last longer than a year or two, so I can't afford to wait another six months for it unfortunately

It won't be six months. You're looking at a few weeks, max. You could look into side loading or flashing a ROM, though I'm not sure what is compatible with your model and what isn't.
I found an OTA download wich supposedly would force update my phone to download the official release, let's give it a shot

I think you're misinterpreting what you found. If it's the actual OTA zip, the file itself will update your phone to the official release... that's called sideloading. Nothing can force your phone to download the OTA if it's not already available. That's entirely up to Motorola or your carrier. And if it is available, you'd be able to get it by checking for it in settings. Post the link to what you found and I'll check it out.
I personally have no issues with it, never encountered the memory leak issue. I was a bit peeved at first they removed the silent mode but once I worked out how to use the priorities for alerts I was fine. Now I just wish they'd roll out lollipop for my Samsung Tab S.
So I just got my second replacement device. The first was acting goofy. I just dropped the second one and cracked the screen...thank god for the one time free screen fix...which is actually just a replacement device mailed to you. The current (cracked screen one) is modded. I have been finding my device doing random reboots or getting laggy.
So on to my question. Which ROM is as factory as possibly but free tethering enabled?
And your replacement has 4.4.4 and you are rooted?
Ugh...I hadn't even turned it on...it's got 5.1. My last replacement device didn't so I'd completely forgotten about that. As far as I know, I'm completely stuck and cannot root this, correct? Think there is any hope of Verizon getting me one without 5.1?

Correct. I've read reports of people getting 5.1 replacements from Verizon as well. Jcase and beaups are supposedly working on updating Sunshine (bootloader unlocker) to support the Turbo, but there hasn't been any news on that in a while. Also, Sunshine needs root access to work, so it wouldn't work on 5.1 unless they also released a new root method. That's the current state of things as far as I know.
Yeah, people who jumped immediately and got replacements when 5.1 first came out in July (finally!) for the XT1254 could get 4.4.4 still on replacement Droid Turbos. But now by mid September... Seems like Verizon has caught up.
That's why I asked if your new replacement XT1254 shipped to you actually still had 4.4.4 (instead of stock 5.1) and you could flash another ROM.
There still may be 4.4.4 Droid Turbo phones out there in Verizon stores with older inventory. But those phones would be given to people who walk in and buy a new phone -- not to customers ordering a replacement phone, which are shipped from Verizon.
And those new phone buyers may not even realize what they have in their hands. First thing they would do is hit the update button.
All that being said though, if you ever get a hold of a 4.4.4 Turbo, I'll send a stock + root + tethering rom your way.
So wait... there's a huge debate in threads talking about being apart of the soak test or even mentioning it exists.. which one side is boiled down to "breaking the manufacturer rules..." but you can literally post a topic about breaking a carrier's rules and i'ts all good? The world is a confusing, confusing place.
FYI, I got a 4.4.4 replacement device yesterday straight from Motorola. Might be worth a shot if you ever need another replacement. My Verizon one also had 5.1. Kind of funny that the manufacturer had the old firmware and Verizon had the latest. I figured Verizon would do everything in their power to revert it to Gingerbread or something

There was that debate here which was hilariously ridiculous, when the head of Motorola software even mentioned the 5.1 soak tests in his blog. Some guy who claims to be a rep for Motorola -- named Moto Mark or something -- was laughed away after that. Basically his boss can shout it from the rooftops to the world, but users can't? Ha.
It will probably take longer for vzw versions, but at least we know the order it is being released as well as approximate time.
Wonderful, us VZW guys aren't even on the list. Thanks Obama

I haven't seen anything further. But I did install the free Marshmallow theme from the theme store.
One of my friends received Android 6.0 on his Boost Mobile LG Stylo today. Not bad for a $179 phone!
i see marshmallow has been out for a bit now for the s6 edge. how is there no tar for those of us who would like to try it out?

Google does the update and then sends it to Samsung for testing. IF Samsung decides the update is worthy and fits into their business plan for the life of the phone, they will test the update and correct things that are specific to the S6. IF that is completed then they send the update to Verizon, who in turn, decides if it fits in their business plan and the planned end of life for the product. If Verizon decides to pass it along then they update the code with their specifics and then they release it to the phones.
All of that has to go good before we knaves might see an update.
Unfortunately Android updates and timeline does not fit into the end of life plans for phones by the carriers. That is why we usually only get one or two updates.
Just saw this while searching online tonight.

Don't suppose anyone's heard anything for us VZW guys in terms of getting any updates, have they? About to list my phone on swappa and try to get something else... Yeah it's a catch between the nexus 6 and the turbo 2 if I decide to move away. The turbo 2 in terms of hardware is slightly superior, but unfortunately it seems like it's suffering the same fate as my current phone

Another bit of a tease http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/02/16/samsung_starts_marshmallow_upgrades/
Well I happened upon an old S8 sitting in a drawer (G950U - Verizon - Android version 9) and am desperately trying to have some fun and root this thing. I cannot for the life of me find a good guide/video that works. Can this phone actually even be rooted? Not sure if anyone will even see this post but figured I'd give it a try. Thx!
I have a verizon s8 too and looking to root also, update here if you find answer!
My wife hates I wont upgrade. My s8 still going g strong (2nd model I got through insurance like 3 years ago).
Anyways, I know that FOREVER we weren't able to root
SM-G950U.
Then a different root came out where it's one you have to do on a PC. They claim the s8 has a 10% brick rate (doing everything correctly)...which steered me away. If I do everything correct I want 0%.
Tonight, I was researching and besides coming across a few posts on here...aupposidly our model is on the list of a 1 click root app.
