Hi, I just bought a moto x 2014 in Brazil (not locked to any carriers), and went to update, but it says no updates are available. I read everywhere that lollipop has been out for moto x 2nd gen for a while now. am I missing something? thanks

Not all variants of the Moto X 2014 have received Lollipop update. For instance, my XT1093 has not gotten it yet. XT1095 (pure edition) and maybe some others have gotten the update already.
You'll get it, just wait till it rolls out to you. You aren't missing out on much, believe me.

well actually android lollipop is the thing i need the most in a smartphone. multi-user is the reason I bought this phone right now, I have a band and I use instagram / twitter / facebook / all things that doesn't have multi-user support like google apps, so the only way I can manage everything is with android lollipop.
I had a galaxy s4 with cyanogen lollipop, but phone just fried so I went to the store and bought the best phone I could pay that had guaranteed lollipop upgrade, and when i got home bam, no upgrade. that's a bummer.

All I can say is you'll get it soon, so sit tight.
I was actually expecting a way to force upgrade since it's been out for a while, and I'm not very patient, not good with waiting for something that has not a defined time to get done you know? been waiting forever to get it on my s4, and it never came, had to do a manual install. My phones don't usually last longer than a year or two, so I can't afford to wait another six months for it unfortunately

It won't be six months. You're looking at a few weeks, max. You could look into side loading or flashing a ROM, though I'm not sure what is compatible with your model and what isn't.
I found an OTA download wich supposedly would force update my phone to download the official release, let's give it a shot

I think you're misinterpreting what you found. If it's the actual OTA zip, the file itself will update your phone to the official release... that's called sideloading. Nothing can force your phone to download the OTA if it's not already available. That's entirely up to Motorola or your carrier. And if it is available, you'd be able to get it by checking for it in settings. Post the link to what you found and I'll check it out.
I personally have no issues with it, never encountered the memory leak issue. I was a bit peeved at first they removed the silent mode but once I worked out how to use the priorities for alerts I was fine. Now I just wish they'd roll out lollipop for my Samsung Tab S.

So I'm a Galaxy Nexus (Verizon) user and looking to get a new phone. I'm looking at getting a Moto X and I have a few questions about it. Mainly in regards to rooting and getting cyanogenmod up and running on it. I don't mind using its stock rom as it seems rather close to stock android, but I'm curious as to how hard is it to root a Moto X on Verizon and getting cyanogenmod on it and keep the special features like the shake to unlock the camera and the voice commands. Also how is the battery on the device (I normally stick to 3G and maybe web surf a bit and look at my RSS feeds through the day not a lot of really data intense apps.) Thanks.
I just got my Moto X a few days ago and found that I enjoyed the experience so much on it that I decided not to root. I have been rooting my phones for a few years and finally found a stock experience that I enjoy.
I don't see a reason why you would want to lose the amazing features that Moto X offers by switching to CM.
You can root the phone (there are guides around the forums for this) and add Xposed modules to modify some parts of the phone, however, any OTA updates will cause some headaches. With 4.4 around the corner for the Moto X I am going to hold off rooting for a while and enjoy what Motorola gave to us.

I'm also a long time rooter/CM kinda guy, galaxy nexus, GS3 etc etc, and I can honestly say that the only reason I would root this thing would be to change the battery icon (aaagh I hate it so much)
But this phone is so so good out of the box, it's just not worth wasting effort trying...although it would be nice to drop a new kernel on it.
Best phone I've had so far.

I will eventually root this thing... someday. I would also like a new kernel and I want to have Greenify back and some small customization options, but for now I am going to enjoy not troubleshooting some sort of issue that comes as a side effect of rooting.
I I just switched to the Moto X from the gnex on Sprint. I am very happy with my decision. The battery life is an enormous improvement over the gnex. I have always rooted my devices and installed custom roms, but I am yet to do so on the Moto X. It has a great stock set up. I will likely root once 4.4 is avaliable, but only to get rid of the sprint crap.

That's great to hear about the battery and stock ROM. Has anyone used the Motomaker site yet (Mainly this goes out to AT&T owners). I'd like to get mine through that when it opens up for most carriers on the 11th. But I'm curious exactly how does the process goes with activation and such. And I just noticed Verizon only offers the 16gig model is there anyway to get a 32gig model with big red.

Moto Maker allows an option for 32gb, so you could wait for that on Verizon, or the Developer Edition is 32gb but you have to pay $549 for it.

We're hoping when Verizon gets Moto maker access 32gb will be an option. Right now you can get a 32gb developer version but you'll have to pay full price, ($550) and is only available in a weird white /black combo.

Moto maker is a breeze... You do everything through the website, new line, upgrade or off contact. Much easier than I had anticipated.

Came from a galaxy "nexus" to the X and love it. I finally did root it and have played with Xposed a bit, and I will probably never flash a rom again. Xposed let's me change all of the things that I cared about on AOKP like having a torch toggle in QS, and statusbar/navbar transparency. To be honest, if I didn't want to enable native tether privileges (still unlimited here), I wouldn't be rooted.

I LOVE HTC but I had the one for five weeks and at least 1 out of 4 calls were dropped randomly or my cheek would hang up the call. I loved the look of the one and thought sense 5 was the best sense yet. However due to the dropped calls the phone just did not work for me.
I have talked to others that returned the phone for the same reason
I wouldn't use the HTC one either. The sense UI is rather sluggish (I've used in the past before - HTC incredible and I've used the demo of the HTC one they had the verizon store and it was the same slowness), Not at all a fan of beats by dre/monster cables. And the button layout is kinda eh. Used to having 4 icons at the bottom with the main menu button being near the center.

Question for the group... Will rooting alone allow you to install CM? Is CM available to be flashed via safestrap?
I ask because -> http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...cyanogenmod-10-2-experimental-nightly-builds/ and -> http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Xt1060_Info seem to indicate its for Unlocked bootloader or Developer Edition. And since there is no way yet to unlock the non-Dev Edition's boot loader, it further appears its really for Dev Ed only. And all the roms that aren't a leak from Moto in the Developer sections here also state you need a Developer Edition X or Unlocked boot loader.
Vergil117, as far as rooting, JCASE has released ways to root the initial shipping rom version, and the OTA update for the camera fix. So that is easy enough. I have rooted mine, just to tether (I still have unlimited). As with other devices, if you don't have an unlocked boot loader, rooting after new ROM updates are pushed is uncertain.
Like most have posted, I think the X in its stock form is very nice, and I don't find a need to flash a alternate ROM. If you flash to CM, you'll loose the Moto customization like touch-less control, shake for camera, etc.
So I ordered a moto X through the Motomaker software on monday night. It still says est delivery by the 15 but it also says it hasn't shipped. Kinda worried.

Same, I got to step 2 on Tuesday morning and that's been it so far. I'm hopeful we'll get our shipping notifications soon so we can get our phones before the weekend. But I know Moto probably got slammed with a bunch of orders on Monday so some of us may have to wait till next week...
Update to the shipping post. I got the fedex info and it should be here Friday yay.
Motorola's update system is way behind. When I ordered mine, over a month ago, It didn't say shipped until the morning it arrived and I didn't get a tracking number until an hour or so after I had already received the device.
But it arrived the day they said it would... I'd rather the info be late instead of the phone
Moto X rocking 4.4
Oh I know the feeling, Fedex was being lazy yesterday with my order. I live in a gated apartment building, the main lobby is like right next to the door to the building. I honestly think they saw the door and said oh no one here and went away. So I had to call them and tell them to drop it off at a fedex store.
Hi, Since i see no news about when the Nexus 6 will be released to the public sale, I need to get a phone since a relative is traveling between november 28 and december 6, so this would be my choice, I was wondering if this phone uses stock android, and if it's going to receive fast updates like Moto X, Moto G? I would appreciate your information, thanks!

Motorola has the Droid Turbo on their list of phones to be updated to Lollipop but there is no ETA yet on when they will happen. Rumor has it that it will be sometime in December but that depends on Motorola/Verizon.
So, if/when do you think Verizon will get official lollipop out? (I know speculation is pointless but idrc)
I'm putting 40% on it never comes out, 50% between 2 and 8 months from the d802 and 10% within 2 months of the international g2 getting it (probably next week).
date
My guess would be at the end of March or beginning of April. Probably around the same time the Galaxy S6 and One M9 (or whatever there going to call it) come out. Since it will probably be out on AT&T right before then.

I'm going to say mid-May 2015. Or maybe June. But with VZW, you never know, so maybe December just to screw with everyone.
I still think sometime in the next few weeks to a month since Verizon has been pretty quick to updating phones to lollipop. Granted they still throw all there garbage bloatware. But atleast google has been nice to create ways for people to uninstall it without having to root.
Have you seen this?
http://pressandupdate.com/lg-g2-android-5-0-1-lollipop-update-everything-know/
That article was useless since it tries to blame on the problems on "older hardware". The snapdragon 801 inside the g3 is not much different then the snapdragon 800 inside the g2. It's just companies being lazy and wanting people to buy a new phone every time there is a software update. Especially with the markup for the cost of these devices.
Look at this link someone v posted in another thread. We Verizon users might be first!

It's the source code for Verizon lollipop. Someone said that when the source code came out for f240l a week later the kdz showed up. They're speculating that we may be able to expect lollipop kdz for Verizon in a week

I think I'll still wait for the next update. Since Lollipop is so hit or miss on phones/tablets. I have a 2012 Nexus 7 which it works great on along with my nexus 9. A friend has 5.0 on his Verizon galaxy s5 and his phone is now laggy and the battery life is garbage.
Verizon sent out lollipop to my wife's M8 last night. Seemed pretty snappy after the install. Guess it will take a week or two before start noticing any small issues though.
I thought LG was supposed to be quick with their updates? How did HTC beat them to it?
Updating now, just got back from vacation, so don't need root and tether that much...
If I do, can always go back to 27A
I'm running stock verizon 5.0.2 lollipop now, runs pretty good. If you have a vs980 try it out

I'm just curious as to which build Google is pushing via OTA. Thanks!
There seems to be some slight speed up of the phone but that might be my imagination. Be interested to see if the battery life has increased as promised under this update. Also if they've squashed the last of the restarts it was still getting, though less so since the last update.

Mine said that for ages & then just to changed to requesting for me to download & install, no intermediary stage if you know what I mean.
I am on 5.0 can't even get any update to 5.0.1!! Anyone in the same conditions? I am expecting not to receive the 5.1 update straight away but 5.0.1 has been out for some time and still haven't got it (I bought the n6 two days ago)
I got the message last night, and went through the motions of downloading and installing.
However, my phone is rooted (though otherwise stock) and when it rebooted, it did so into recovery (TWRP). After rebooting, I'm still on 5.0.1 and the 410.4Mb download is nowhere to be seen on the phone. I've again got the "System update available" message today, but I don't want to go round the same loop again.
Anybody know how to get a rooted phone to 5.1?

I have nexus 6 with same build number and no update for me
My nexus 7 2012 have already 5.1.
At least if there would some info when to expect new update , it would be great.
The OG X took a while to get to Lollipop, but the 2014 one has a much newer chipset with modern internals not far from the Nexus 5, so I'm going to say January for the first rollout.
This is a Q&A thread because I want people to be able to vote for the one they think is likely, not because it's a question per se. Go!
January? I hope you're right! I really do, because I wouldn't be surprised if it was much later.
I've read that M is likely to come end of september or October (don't remember if this is on androidauthority, androidpit or else). So my guess is for Christmas. I'd like one company to do it as christmas present. But motorola can even bring it sooner =). So end of november/december for me =)
December. I'm skipping Lollipop, I had some frustrating bugs after the update (lost wifi signal while idle), so I came back to KK
How did you get from 5.1 back to kk did you let it update via ota the fastboot system and boot of kk back or what?
Without knowing when M is coming out, this question is pretty tough for anyone to be able to answer. I would guess around 2-3 months after the official launch by which time 5.2.1 should already be out to fix the many issues caused by 5.2. Have to hope that the distraction of 2 newer mid/high end phones won't delay the Moto X release.
Just flashing ( I didn't flash any motoboot and gpt), didn't take any OTA.
I expect it will be quite delayed as Lenovo is laying off a bunch of Motorola staff.
My guess is Groundhog Day 2016. (I probably have the Moto X Style or a Nexus by that time).
Never. This phone is probably never going to see another update imo. Can't wait to get rid of it.
I'm going to go with 1-2 months after the nexus 6 and 9 get the update. It is likely moto is already working on the update. There is probably an agreement with Google that the current nexus devices get the update first.
