Motorola RMA - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anybody returned this phone to Motorola for full refund? I wonder how long it takes them to credit you back. Also do they send a check or credit back your card? Their customer service is PITA.

How long have you had the device? But I RMA'ed a Moto X within their 14 day window. Got an email within a couple of hours with the shipping label. They credited my Visa card, about 2 weeks after the device hit their door.

Had it for 2 months but started having screen issues and they had no white 64gb replacement so they offered to issue full refund.

Based on what I've read on several threads here, it looks like it's "hit & miss" in your situation. Some have good experiences, like mine, and others are horrible. Good luck.

Their awesome finance department had supposedly issued only $699.99 refund because according to Motorola taxes do not get refunded because taxes are paid to the Government. These guys are worse than 1+1 customer service.

Yeah, probably some idiot representative in their finance department. Really annoying having to spend 2 hours/week calling them. Is a shame, paying $800 for a device and receiving such customer support.

I sect back a Moto x 2014 that I bought from Moto at the end of December. Just received a credit last week. Had to chat/call with them over 10 times. They screwed up the rma and only gave me credit for an accessory I never returned. Finally spoke to someone in their order admin department, and they finally resolved the issue. Going to think twice before ordering anything directly from Moto again.

Refund shipping

Anyone got google to refund the $20 shipping?
I'm on hold with google right now.
If they dont waive shipping, I am cancelling.
If they won't cancel, I will call my credit card company.
UPDATE 2:
They cancelled my order.... I didn't even ask for it to be cancelled.
I asked if they can waive the shipping due to the delays.
Guess not.....
Guess I just wait now and get it cheaper of kijiji in a month or two.
EDIT: UPDATE
The person told me she doesn't have the ability to do a refund on shipping.
She has sent an email to the billing department. They will let me know I guess.
She also told me that if I reject the delivery and have it sent back to sender, I will get a FULL refund INCLUDING SHIPPING.
I told here it's not in written (just like the 1year warranty claim). She said sorry she doesn't know all the details blah blah blah.
TLDR: If they don't refund the shipping, I am calling my credit card company.

Every time I order 2 day shipping from Amazon (often), it always gets to my door within 2 days. UPS or USPS, it doesn't matter; it just gets here. Being told my device would ship today at the latest by their CS reps and then being emailed that it will get here by the end of next week is unacceptable for $20 shipping. It makes no sense and our shipping costs should be refunded; they were inordinately high in the first place, and now they're not even for 2 day shipping for many people.
The shipping debacle was UPS's fault. I pre-ordered but ended up buying mine from same club. After receiving the package yesterday, its pretty evident Google just shipped pallets of N7's to UPS at which point UPS was responsible for packaging and labeling them for individual customers.
Perhaps Google isn't the villain we are all making them out to be with this ordeal...

The shipping issue is completely Google; UPS ship it at the speed required and paid for by Google. They're only doing what their customer has asked them to do. I've spoken with UPS staff and they've been incredibly helpful.
Mine is being shipped UPS Standard which means it will take a week to get to me. I will almost certainly be refusing the delivery next week.

While this maybe true for the $14 they charged me for 2 day shipping they should have at least gone with FedEx. Anyhow enough complaining I already got my Nexus 7 yesterday.

Nexus 4/Google Play rant

So a month ago I ordered a nexus 4 8gb. The next day my friend decided he wanted to sell he's nexus 4 8gb. He said he will sell it to me for 300$ instead of 372$ from the play store. Of course I bought it. I wanted to cancel my order so went on my Google wallet account to cancel it. Surprise it doesn't work. Take note that the phone hasn't shipped yet. I call them and I explain to them that I will like to cancel my order. The lady tells me that my order has been processed and she can't cancel. She than tells me I have to wait until it comes and wen
UPS arrives at my door to return it to the sender. I asked if this was a joke. I never in my life heard of that. If an item hasn't shipped yet isn't it easier to stop it before it leaves ? I didn't make a big story and did what she said. I was charged the 372$. Tracked with UPS and when it was near my house, called UPS and said that I refuse the order and that they may send it back to the sender. Perfect they sent it back. And it arrived back to them the Friday, *02/15/2013 at*9:30. I emailed them to know when they will refund me.
They said : If your package is unopened, Google will issue a refund to the card originally charged within 2 weeks.
I'm OK with that no problem.
2 weeks pass. I call them starting to get annoyed.
Now they changed the 2 weeks to 14 businesses days :banghead:
But in the first email they sent they clearly said 2 weeks if package was unopened.
"Thank you for contacting Google Play Hardware Support.
I understand your concern and frustration with the refund for the returned Nexus 4 device.
If your package is unopened, Google will issue a refund to the card originally charged for the order within 2 weeks.
If your package was opened, your returned device must first be inspected before determining the validity of the refund request. Results of the inspection will generally be available within 14 business days after your device is returned."
I remind you that my nexus 4 didn't even make it to my door. Emailed them and got the same message pasted again. Called them and wanted to talk to a supervisor. They said that 14 working days is their policies blabla and that they can't do anything for me.
I was really annoyed and decided to wait the 14 work days. Which was last Friday. I was supposed to get my refund, or at least it should appear on my Google wallet account, but again nothing.
Emailed them back and this is what they sent me back :

First thing is that I always call when I need a customer service instead of sending e-mails. I think you can call them again, and ask why tyou still
haven't get the refund because it's already been 28 days. Call with friendly attitude will help you a lot although I know you are angry and
frustrated. If I'm a customer service support, and I have a customer angry at me for no reason ( since I'm not the one who will issue you a
refund...), I will probably mess up your order again, and make you even more frustrated....This is just my thought.
Good Luck.
I called 2 times and was very polite both times, but it still didn't help.

Then the ugly truth is that you still have to call them until you get your money back because "you want the money back". so you gotta do what you
gotta do....
Yeah, keep calling if you have to. I did the same thing on an RMA and got too busy at work to follow up, but never got my refund after a couple of months. By then I decided I wanted to try the device again, had to call a few times but I got it resolved. Not the same thing as getting a refund though.

If they forewarded to a specialist, then it should be done soon....
I had to RMA my nexus 10 like 5 times so i had like 5 charges on my card for 399$, until it was forwarded to a "specialist" then they took all the charges off....
After my fifth RMA they just refunded my nexus 10... after having one since launch date...
So if you want a refund just keep doing RMA but don't order a new device? just kidding just kidding don't do it, it will not work

I dunno, so far so good with their support for me. I'm in the middle of an RMA for a Nexus 4 because it won't read any SIM cards (hmm perhaps jamming my old nano sized cut up non-sanded SIM into it half way to see if it would work out of curiosity was not a good idea) and I've had to call once, and send a few emails and they've been quick and polite so far.
I work in customer service too and unfortunately things can slip through the cracks. It's sad but when it happens it's very hard to get it back out. Usually when a rep finally is able to resolve your issue after a lot of BS, they'll provide some sort of credit or bonus to make you happy for having to put up with it, because it really isn't your fault. especially if you make it clear you've been very frustrated and inconvenienced. In this case, their response of "we're switching to a new system" sounds plausible. Just keep following up with them, and ask for a supervisor each time you call so some nice heavy duty supervisor notes get left on your ticket as it crawls its way through the system.
That's why I never returned the faulty device back cause after getting RMA device the money that Google holds until I send my faulty device back got expired and my bank put that money back to my account and never sent the faulty one back. Screw up Google

How did it cost you 372 for the 8 GB? Outside US? And I know your pain- as soon as you get charged the order is almost impossible to cancel.

Exactly why I got mine from TMO(obviously have to live in the US to do so). I was able to get my N4 16Gb for less than $200, got lucky and was able to get it on release for TMO. That unit had terrible light bleeding and received my replacement within 2 days of calling it in.
Before anyone says anything about a contract I have been with TMO for over 10 years, I have 3 lines and all have unlimited data 5GB and I pay less than $190 a month after all fees and taxes. So doing an upgrade does not bother me, plus they always help me out when I want a new phone.

Google...Forever to Get Refund

Bought two Nexus 5. One black for myself, and white for my wife. Wifey doesn't like it. She's surgically attached to her iPhone.
Anyways, I've returned her Nexus 5 to Google. It has been 3 weeks now, and still no refund. I call them every week to check up on the status. Always same answer "refund is being processed". BS.
Just keep at it. It ended up taking me 1 month for a Nexus 7 (2012) LTE return. Still better than the 7 weeks I've been waiting for Motorola to refund a Moto X return!
Mine took a week to refund after they received it and then another week to hit my credit card, the holidays maybe.
Surprisingly they won't email you to tell you you're being refunded just look at the original transaction.
They told me 10 to 14 days business days from when they received the defective unit. The hold on my card was was placed on Nov 9. It is now Dec 5 and still no refund. If you factor in the holiday and the business only days. It'll be 14 days on Friday. So even though it was practicality a whole month. The 14 days are just coming up. I guess I'll worry if tomorrow passes and nothing happens.
Google got to be the worse F*CKing company to get a refund.
Inquired again this morning. Got a reply that they "have confirmed receipt of the device at our return processing center". So, where's my refund?
It's been more than three weeks, since I shipped the device back.

It's the busiest time of the year, hence other people got refunded faster.
That's the one reason I was a little hesitant to order from Google.
With Apple if there is an issue I was always able to just walk into a store and resolve.
Luckily my phone was excellent and everything went smooth.

While it sucks to have to wait, as a whole their policy is pretty good. They also pay shipping back, do advance replacement for a year, ship quickly etc. I have to say that I'm more upset about the defect rate than anything.

They only pay for shipping for RMA's. With returns for refunds Google will subtract from your credit based on what shipping you payed for initially for your order.
So with my refund Google actually charged me $13.99 for the 2nd Day UPS shipping (which I paid for when I ordered), yet the RMA shipping back to them was only UPS Ground. So why do they get to charge me more for a service they're actually not using?

I've returned items to Apple including a 5S recently and I've always been refunded in less than 48 hours back to my debit, or right away in cash.
The only time I've ever heard of any store giving you a gift card is if you somehow paid by cash and didn't have a receipt to prove purchase upon return.
I've RMA a nexus 4 last year... It took almost 6 month for google to "free" my money....

In my case I ordered 2 phones (2 32gb black) and they shipped a total of 9 phones to me. Thankfully UPS refused the shipment as I requested but Google received the phones 11/14 and still no refund on the 7 phones I didn't order. Disputed the charges through BOA but still my card is hosed until long after Christmas thanks to Google's incompetence.
WHAT?!?! You seriously ordered 2 phones and got NINE? And they charged you for them all. Holy crap. You could probably sue them. I've seen it done over less, l.m.f.a.o.
Wow 9 phones man that's nuts
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Edit so not OT: I ordered a 32G white from play store on launch. Saw mine wouldn't even ship until late Nov-early Dec so I canceled it (before it shipped). Ended up waiting however long until T-Mobile got them in stock and grabbed it there. As far as Google's delay for returning my dough to the bank. They said usually no more than 2-3 business days, but as per their refund/return policy it could take a MAXIMUM of 14 business days. Though the rep said she never heard of anyone having to wait that long. Took them 6 business days. Almost hit that half way mark

That's true. Love Apple for that adjust.
Bought an IPad Mini last year. Wasn't impressed with the display. RequestED RMA, free FedEx overnight back, got refund 24hrs later. Bam, done deal!
They are taking forever with my refund as well. They received my defective unit on Nov 20th and still no refund. At first they said 7 to 14 business days and now they upped it to 21 days. That's a dang long time just for a refund. On a side note they said the old N5 was recieved and processed with no problem. Meaning that the defect or whatever was not my fault. So I wait, and wait, and...
So glad to hear I am not the only one with this issue. The whole business of returning the phone has been at a snails pace to get through the process.

Moto X return policy

Any know the return policy for the Moto X. The website is not clear, it talks about having 14 days to change your design if you don't like it but no mention if you can get a complete refund. I want to buy this as a gift but need the option to return it if is not liked. Anyone ever receive a refund?
Thanks
"For Moto X devices designed with Moto Maker: Let’s say you do all of your designing, get your Moto X, and then decide you have a different favorite color. You can re-design once if you return the first one within 14 days of buying (30 days in California), no questions asked."
I read that as 14 days from purchase date (not delivery date). The website is silent as to the developer edition but I was told in a chat session the developer edition is 14 days from delivery.
I'd post a link but because of the rules, it won't let me. But if you google motorola return policy --- what I posted will come up.
EDIT: I see what you mean now, that language is for design changes. May want to open a chat session to clarify. They will send you a transcript after the session so you will the answer in writing as well.
You can get a full refund for a MotoMaker X. It is 14 days from the day FedEx delivers it to you, just like an exchange. You can open the factory sealed box and they will still accept it for a refund.
You may have to defend yourself if you get one of "those" reps...

I am not sure if they spell it out explicitly in their policy but they will take it back based on my experience at least. Sorry I was not so clear -- yes, I did get a refund on mine. I got a not so pleasant foreign sounding lady rep who called me on Thanksgiving 8PM asking me why I wanted to return my X for a refund and questioning me. She was a MotoMaker manager and wanted to confirm the refund after I had called them. The next day I got an email from a Motorola rep confirming the refund:

Hi,
Your refund is processing. You should see it back in your account within 7-10 business days.
Thanks,
Ashley

If you look in the Cyber Monday thread, you'll see a LOT of people returned their Moto Xs for refunds as well. I definitely understand where you are coming from in looking for it officially spelled out from Moto so you can feel safe about it, so I guess your best bet is going to be to contact Moto via chat/email (even though their phone support is much more accurate) so you can get it in writing and save it.
They take it back... Even with an unlock code generated. They also email you a prepaid overnight shipping label too. Its pretty awesome. I've not gotten my refund yet but I only returned it on Friday.

Is it OK to get a full refund if I already open it? What number did you contact for returning? Thank you!
Any experience here with refund after the 14 days?
situation is I'm on my 2nd Moto X, both a had software issues. I'm sure Ill be able to refund it no problem based on my circumstances but just want some feedback. It sucks I really liked this phone.
also anyone recommend a good I can replace this with?
-should cost around 400$ w/ tax
-has to be new and from a legit retailer (not ebay or amazon 3rd party sellers)
-not a nexus 5, I here lot's of those are having some weird microphone volume issue.
-no HUMGO phones lol, something close to the moto size
open to ALL suggestions! thanks!
I made a stupid decision to go with motomaker 32 gig full price instead of the dev edition. My fwd facing camera looks like the gromet or o-ring around the camera is coming off and sliding down partially obscuring the camera. Does anyone know if Moto has allowed people to swap from motomaker full price to dev edition since the cost is the same? Going to call later today when I can get on the phone and see if they'll allow it...

Assuming you didn't use any coupons or extra discounts, you could just return the moto maker one and place a new order for the dev edition, since that's usually how they treat "exchanges" anyway. If you had a coupon or discount that isn't available now, they can offer an advance exchange (where they charge you for the new device then refund it when they receive the old one) but I think that only works for straight moto maker exchanges.

So T-Mobile is giving 32gb away for free this weekend.

If you are thinking about buying an S6 T-Mobile is giving the 64gb version for the same price as the 32, or you can stay with the 32 and take a credit for the difference. And if you bought it on May 9th or after you can go switch your 32 for a 64 for free.

EDIT I bought my 32 on May 5th, four days too late. I called 611 and tried to get them to let me get the 64 but they wouldn't budge.
thanks!
Just called 611, I qualify, thanks for the tip!
Buyer Remorse is 20 days, so you have until the 25th to return your phone, so just send it back and get a new one this week end?

Is 20 days for online purchases? In store purchases as far as I know is and always has been 14 days. And I just looked at my receipt and it too says 14 days.
What if I got 64gb? Will they give me a refund? Got it in th 20th only with $200 down (EIP)
http://www.t-mobile.com/Templates/Popup.aspx?PAsset=Ftr_Ftr_ReturnPolicy&print=true 14 days in store and 20 days if bought on the phone or online AND for upgrades, hope you fall in one of these categories

You should get $80 back if you bought it on the 20th.

I called the Tmo CS and they said its gonna start tomorrow, i asked them about the buyers remorse coz i bought the phone before the 23rd but they told me to call where I brought it from.
Or what are the right questions to ask them? Looks like some of the reps aren't aware of the promo yet because they have to check online. They asked me where I saw the promo on what site. I told them xdadev lol

I told them I saw it on their website when I went to pay my bill. I just said I purchased my phone on the 20th and I saw the promotion online. I said if I had known about that I would have waited a few more days, and I was wondering if there was anything they could do for me. She put me on hold to talk to someone then came back and credited it.

I just tried looking for it and unfortunately I can't find it. It may have been an accident but after seeing it confirmed online I used the online chat and he advised me to call.
They do have the ad on TV - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfDchiL302w
I had to buy it at launch ?
My store tried to charge me the $50 restocking fee, even though I am within the grace period. Is that correct?

Nope. According to the article its supposed to be retro active. 14 days if store purchase, 20 if online.

I called customer service and they said it is a gray area, and within the discretion of the store, to charge that restocking fee. They were unwilling to do anything further. So, this did not work for me.

Call customer service from your phone with 611 and tell them your story. Chances are they will put a note on your account to give you a 50 dollar credit if the store charges you. If that does happen all you have to do is call them again and your next bill will be credited.
EDIT
Just saw your reply, I'm sure a 50 dollar credit is also at the cs reps discretion.
I was told going from 32 to 64 will have the 50$ restock. Even with the sale this weekend. And is tmo giving away the 32gb free? Would I then just not have to pay the monthly fee for it? Mine is defective anyway so I have to exchange. If the 32 is free and no monthly fee on top of the 50$ line fee then I'll take it free.
I purchased a 64 s6 and 64 edge on the 17th, customer service gave me a $160 credit to my bill. Also confirmed buyers remorse was for 14 days from the 23rd. This post saved me a bunch of money and I thank you!
