Hello XDA,
So a Moto X 2014 was dropped from the height of a couch to a carpeted floor earlier today (my friends moto ). He picked it up, inspected it and then resumed using it after seeing no evidence of damage(no cracked screen). Next he turned the screen off. After a bit, when he went to turn the screen back on, it would not. The haptic feedback still works when hitting the home key and other parts. I can even drag up to get to google now, then start typing into the search bar. All of this is done by feel, without the screen being on at all. Also of course "ok google" works too. The phone also gives sound feedback. So now you guys get the picture here, only the screen does not work, and the digitizer does. I have two questions here:
1. How?
Why on earth would the phone still work until the screen was turned off?
2. Is there any way to fix this?
My hypothesis was that the display connector somehow became ajar due to the drop, which would require a teardown, which we will not do. Would a battery disconnect help at all. I think we may be willing to risk peeling off the back to disconnect the battery.
The phone is most likely going to to be returned, however if there is something we can do which might work possibly via software on the computer that would be great.
Thank you XDA so much for your help!

Enter boot loader. Turn off your phone and then press enter and volume down. After that with the volume down go to "factory" and press volume up to select it. Your phone will restart with out radio signal and a Commserver app on your status bar, there you can select the first option and check all the system hardware. Hope it helps.
Regards
I can't access the bootloader because the screen will not turn on. I would not know what I was selecting. That is the source of the problem. Thanks though.
Is there a way to do a factory reset over usb with adb? Also I cannot find the required drivers.... anyone out there?

Yeap. But first download minimal adb and Fastboot drivers then search for the firmware of your phone
The command is
Fastboot flash system system. img
I think you need to unlock your bootloader in order to flash even stock system files
Since you dropped it it is rarely possible that software is "broken" better to do is sending to motorola asking for warranty (if no signs of drop are visible) an hope.

Hello,
I'm not really sure if anyone encountered this before..
Suddenly today in the morning, I notice my Milestone's touchscreen is acting up.
I can't reach the menu button at the bottom of the screen. It always chooses Phone or Web Browser button instead :/
I use search to get to Dev Tools and Pointer Locations, and I realize there's a segment, about 1 third of the touchscreen, in the middle, unresponsive to touch.
I tried cleaning the screen, clearing cache, rebooting, it made it work temporarily, but then it returned again. I changed to stock 2.1 SBF, still no change. And now, its stuck in this state, I can't get it to work even temporarily..
I really dont want to send it to Customer Service, is there anyway to solve this?
Thanks!

Sorry my english is not good
It happen to me last 2 weeks while helping out a friend's Milestone. After i flashed a kernel, the whole screen is not working. Trying to flash back to stock ROM,custom ROM,etc but still the same.
By accident i press and hold both BACK key(the bottom left) and SEARCH key( bottom right) and ON the phone. I let go of the the two,BACK and SEARCH key after the phone is completely ON. To my surprise, it works!!! Until now the phone has no problem with the touchscreen.
I hope you guys can try this out or is it an coincidence,I don't know..

thanks but no fix it for my phone
I had the same problem sometime last year, which I eventually fixed by clearing cache partition and rebooting a bunch of times.
Unfortunately, the problem re-appeared today. So far, rebooting and clearing cache hasn't worked.
By any chance, have any of you installed the WiiMote Controller App? I was convinced that was what was doing it to my phone. (maybe not, as I never re-installed it though)
I'm about to flash the sbf file, but as Lesiroth said, that might not work
i believe u r having GHOST TOUCHSCREEN syndrome
my touchscreen sometime do not response to my touch
it just went berserk!
the notification bar keep sliding up and down
if im in the menu, it goes up and down too!
sometime i cant unlock the screen bcos it do not respon
however, some chinese users found that this could be due to ripped/ torn ribbon
just google it
it is widely reported too!
I just want to say that I have fixed my Droid's touchscreen problem (or maybe it will re-appear in another six months).
Anyway, I just set the screen brightness to max and screen timeout to 30min and let the battery drain. I took the battery out for a second and then charged the phone with the USB that came with the phone over the wall socket.
I think the USB wire is the culprit (I was using a BB one for a while).

my problem seemed to be disappeared after i soft reset n use stock rom
i tot launcher pro was the culprit but it is not
so i re-install LP n use for 1 day
d only problem i had was when i went for a jog, i tucked it on my waist (no in the pocket).
after that the screen stop working at all, i have to reboot by taking the battery a few time.
after 30 min or more, the problem was gone.
tis could be due to the stress applied to the screen when im joggin (as it it as "touched" while im jogging).
however, i removed beautiful widget n its addon too, dat could the source of the problem as well.
SOLUTION: soft reset, use stock rom / launcher for 1 day
if it still persist, it could a hardware problem

I am glad that you solved your problem. Unfortuntely the past week or so has been a really busy time for me, I could not focus on this problem. I will try your solution, although I still think it is a broken digitizer on my part.
maybe the problem is the digitizer..
try to change rom or wipe it first..
if the problem still persist i think its the digitizer..
use only the original charger..
OMFG that worked on my phone!!!

Hey guys,
I've searched and tried seemingly everything, but can't find a solution to this problem. A few months ago, my cousin dropped her Z3C on the floor; the screen cracked and stopped working. I got and installed a replacement screen, but it doesn't work. When I first turned it on (after charging the phone for several hours), the display was off, but I could touch the screen and I would get haptic feedback.
When I do a soft reset (Vol Up + Power), it vibrates 3 times, but the screen still doesn't display anything. I've pressed the little yellow reset button next to the SD slot, which also causes it to vibrate, but the screen still doesn't work. When I connect it to a PC, it is identified, though no folders are shown in the device. After I used the repair function of the Sony Xperia Companion, I now no longer receive haptic feedback when touching the screen. I also tried using flashtool, but to no avail.
Can anyone point me in a direction with how I should proceed?
Thanks!
It may be a motherboard issue now,try taking the phone apart and reconnecting the screen, but don't close it fully just connect it and see if anything happens,if it still doesn't work it could be a motherboard issue or you got a DOA screen
Make jumper on fuze like I did on 2nd picture and should be fine. Pictures here.

Unfortunately, soldering for me isn't an option.
I've looked into the price of a motherboard for the Z3C and it's pricier than I expected. I might just cut my losses and try to sell it as is.
Thanks for all of the suggestions, guys!
Hi everybody, I need all of your brains, because my brain stuck at this point.
Yesterday I got a phone (Samsung Galaxy A3 or model SM-A310F) from my neighbor with an damaged display. He told me the phone fell into water, but run after drying normal (I saw a video, isn't the phone water proof?) but then it fell to the ground and since the phone doesn't recognize any touch. I checked it and told him that I need to take a look inside because the glas is in a perfect state, I could see anything on it but, as I said, no functional touch. Hard-Keys are working fine.
The first thing what I does, was to restart the phone with "Vol- and Power". I thought the phone were now bricked, because the boot-up seems to be endless. After I let the phone work for approximately 5-10 minutes, the Samsung logo comes up and Android was there but again, with no touch.
So, as I said, I opened the phone, took a look inside and was very confused, because two wires were broken and some electrical parts near the display plug and the plug itself had a white covering, I think from the water damage before. Anyway, the phone is running but after I opened it, the screen got black and never come back. I cleaned up the parts and the plug and tried again, now when I press home or power, the screen is flickering on the left for a short time and is then black again.
At this point I said him that the phone is broken, because it is not clearly if the screen is broken and/or the mainboard, too (because of the white covering).
My neighbor asked me to recover the files and the contacts. I told him it is hard, but not impossible. My plan was to install a recovery, boot into and to adb pull all the files to my computer.
But: USB Debugging is DISABLED and the oem lock is on, too, so I failed trying to install twrp with odin. I just get a fail.
New for me: you can control your phone with your computer mouse and keyboard, so I thought, I can just accept the MTP request and simply drag and drop the files... but nope, the request just pops up, when I connect the phone to the computer. So I can't use my keyboard AND the connection to my pc...
Adb doesn't recognize the phone, because of the disabled usb debug (and even if I can figure it, I need to accept the debug dialog while connecting).
So, this is your part, anybody, any Idea to install something or just to recover the files?
My ideas:
Mirroring APK (to mirror the screen to my PC, explored that with MyPhoneExplorer)
Custom Recovery for stock recovery flashing (flashable zip)
Downgrading (but will definitly stuck in a bootloop, because I can't delete the data)
...
What do you suggest?
Buying a new screen isn't an option. I don't know anybody who can "borrow" me his screen.
I'm really a android geek, not someone as you are, but more than "normal users", so if it difficult, it is not a problem.
I also accept some tips with the screen part. I attached the picture, which I tooked for him. There you can see the white covering AFTER cleaning (it is almost there at some spots... I don't want to break more).
Thank you alot!
Kisses from germany =)
Sorry! I posted it in the wrong sub =( Can anyone please move it?
Ah I would like to update this thread:
I bought a new display, had some problems anyway but now I got a new phone =)
Anyone having touchscreen sensitivity issues? I'm having ghost swipes galore while trying to scroll up and down a page like Google now or Facebook. Try swiping left and right on the home screen. On mine it just started to not respond anymore after a couple of times. Even if I go to the multitasking page, I'll try and swept away each open app and it'll just start to not register. This is while not plugged in btw. I really love the phone otherwise and want to keep it but I'll have to return it if this is a common problem. Is this an issue with the phone or just me? If it is just mine then I'll just exchange it and hope I get a better one.
Actually it is much more prevalent while charging. I also forgot my Moto mod battery pack charges constantly and my cause grounding issues also. Let me know if it's just my phone y'all!
I had these issues initially, especially with the bottom of the screen and the back button, but after a couple reboots they're totally gone. Try a hard restart (hold the power button until it restarts). I use a turbopower mod so i don't think its that.
My charging cord doesn't work.I just bought 3 days ago and it will not turbo charge

after reboot initially it's better but then it returns after a few minutes. is it the same for you? does it return? anyone else having this problem because I'm trying to determine whether I should take this back or not and get it exchanged.
Problem was an isolated incident and I'm happy to announce that I exchanged the faulty phone for another and this one shares none of the problems said above. So in short, if you're having screen sensitivity problems, send/take your phone back for a new one.
It's flawless now! I freakin love this phone!
So a few months back all three side buttons stopped working on my 5a -- juuuuust out of warranty period. I found apps to adjust the volume and to turn the screen off, so it wasn't really an issue, the phone otherwise works perfectly fine... until my battery died overnight. Now the phone will charge up to full and display its level of charge, but I cannot figure out how to turn the phone on without use of the side buttons.
I tried charging it to full, I tried plugging it into my PC, and I took it to Ibreakufix, which is a Google authorized repair facility and no one knew a way to turn it on. In fact they didn't really believe me that the phone works and insisted it was a separate issue bricking the device. They want to charge me $175 to replace the side button panel and see if that works, but a used 5a is about that price anway.
I found a thread somewhere saying that you can turn on the phone with ADB if the phone has USB debugging enabled, but of course this is the first phone I've had in a decade that I didn't actually have that turned on.
I would greatly appreciate any ideas you guys have. Seems a shame that this otherwise perfectly good phone is inaccessible just because I can't use the power button.

So the switch assembly failing is common on these? Didn't have much luck seeing anyone else with my problem, just motherboard issues

Well if it's the mobo you're boned. Unless dropped or flexed mobo's shouldn't just fail.
Since it's a moving part the switch be the prime suspect or a loose connector unless there are other known issues with this model.

Ok, might order the switch online, I found a part.
Still so frustrating because I know it's a functioning phone that I just can't turn on. I used it for months without use of the side buttons, I just never let the battery deplete until now
If anyone knows a way to turn it on without use of the buttons I'm all ears
