Get a Note 4 or.... - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys just a quick question. Idk if any of you have other devices such as HTC, but i was wondering, im about to upgrade and im not sure if to get a Note 4 or wait for the HTC One M9.
Any help. I haven't used a sense phone since the HTC Evo 3D.

What phone are you upgrading from? I've had several phones including the late iPhone 6 plus and once you get Note and its features, you can never go back. Multi window even with third party apps, ir for remote control, S-pen for notes(there's no substitute), camera is one of the best for a phone. I just use Nova in place of TouchWiz and I'm good.

Note 3... and i love the note 4 (wife's got one) just was wondering if now was the time to switch to HTC, considering i dont know much about what they've been doing lately.

Get a black me 4 or a white note 4. as of today those are your best options but March 1st will come and give me options but even with my 2 jumps this year I'll probably keep my note 4

Wait to see the M9 and Flex 2. Note 4's a very minor upgrade from your Note 3 except for the camera.

Not sure about the Flex 2, but the only advantage of the M9 is that it's supposedly 64bit, however the Note 4 is far superior in all other aspects (SPen, Gear VR, for example). But then again, they are two different kinds of niches.

Avoid the Qualcomm 810 it has heat issues that cause it to under perform. Most tests have show the 805 (which is what is in the Note 4) out performs it.

I agree and that might be a reason (or one of the reasons) why Samsung is dumping the Snapdragon altogether on the S6 (and future devices?).
Cheers!

I came over from the HTC ONE_M8. I've had my N4 for maybe 2 months now and am starting to warm up to it. When I first got it I didn't like it too much. Compared to the M8 I found the N4 to be laggy, sometimes even complete freeze ups. After turning off a few things along with some changes with the settings it's much better than it was. Since I use the S-pen for work, I do like that cause it works well with what I do. The battery is pretty good, it gets me from wake up to bed easily, pretty much using the phone without worry about it running out. In fact I'm just over 5 hrs screen time with 11% left. One thing that I do like is how the screen is, especially in sunlight. Overall it's a good phone

If I hadn't gotten the Note 4 awhile back and was just now getting ready to upgrade I would most likely get the M9. Had the M8 and loved it.

Get the note 4.
There won't be another good rootable cell phone til the s6 or note 5.

I say if you find a good deal on the Note 4 get it. If you're paying full retail then I rather have the latest and greatest. M9, or GS6

I'd get the note 4.
M9 seems like it won't have a lot of devs based on m8.
S6 seems so far away.
S5 wasn't any good anyway.
Last cool rootable cell phone was s4.

Just a note we are waiting for the lollipop update, while HTC already has it. Not just the M8 but also the M7

Get the nexus 6 or HTC M9. The n4 as is is laggy as ****. I had to flash CM12. while it works fine, it has is fair of issues. Samgsung/Tmobile take forever to release Lollipop. I would take my business else where next time.

The m8 and s5 didn't have devs.
Firewater broke almost immediately on the m8.
I think there were 2 roms for the s5.

Should I buy the Nexus 6 or a Note 4

Hey everyone, Ive had a note 2 for 2 years now and samsung honestly has a lot of bloatware, also the phone is really slow now that even the youtube app would take 3-5 seconds to open. Which phone do u think is better and did anyone have the experience of their nexus 5 or 4 getting a lot slower in a matter of a year or two?? Thanks

I ditched my Note 2 Wed night for the Note 4 Developer Edition on VZW. If you are on VZW or ATT and you don't get a develop edition it may be a long time (if ever) for root and/or bootloader unlocking. If tweaking the device is important that will play a huge factor. As for lag...I am running a debloated rom (no knox or bloatware) and I froze S-voice...there is zero lag now, but you need root to do that.
I was down to either the Nexus 6 or N4 DE...whichever one I could buy first. I am not a fanboy of either as both have good and bad points and I am sure I would have been happy with either. My favorite thing about android is that if there is something I don't like or a feature I want, there is almost always a way to make it happen (assuming you have root and an unlocked bootloader). Hope this helps.
My short input: Hardware is better on the Note 4. Software better on the Nexus 6.
I chose the Nexus because I wanted to experience Stock Android. But I believe the Note is a better phone overall.

I had the Note 3 before I upgraded to the Nexus 6. In my opinion the Nexus 6 is beast & fast as all hell! I mean this thing is so fast out of the box without need to use a custom rom or anything like that. I never used the stylus so that's never been any issue for me when deciding to upgrade my device. Also the front facing speakers & the screen clarity is seriously AWESOME!
I haven't used a phone in years where I didn't feel the need to alter it to make it perform as I thought it should. I did root mine because I love using Titanium Backup and certain apps like that. I woudn't go back to my Note 3 for anything after using this! I don't recall being so happy overall with a device!!!
PS: I also feel that you will not notice much of a differance between the Note 2 & 4 but upgrading to the Nexus 6 will be a very new experiance you will enjoy!!!

Thanks everyone!
I bought nexus 6 and my sister bought note 4. My sister loves her note 4 and I am returning my nexus 6. Only Note series has right features for big screen. Nexus 6 is not very pleasant in use.
But it all comes down to what you need must. My sister doesn't care about software upgrades so it's a perfect phone her.
There reason I am returning my nexus 6 because of some issues. Battery life is meh. Its just big. And no led? Really I need to root to get it? That's just stupid. There is always cloud app fc. I mean come on brand new phone and a fc. It has no advantage over any other latest phone except the OS (that too experience some lag).
After using nexus 4 and then nexus 5. I am going back to my one plus one. Half Price and better performance then nexus 6.
Just to answer your question, if Samsung keeps their word go with international or developer edition note 4.

That's funny...I'm getting pretty sick of waiting for a Lollipop update that's probably going to be almost identical to what I'm already running and and I've never hit near 8 hours SOT. Want to trade lol?
Note 4 is awesome, but I think you'll be singing a different tune in 2016 when the Note is three updates behind.

True, it will be dated, but Nexus phones age much better. The Nexus 5 is still a damn decent phone and gets plenty of support. There are days when I miss it vs. the Note. (Battery isn't great though in comparison.)
My point is that given their track record, if Lollipop is taking this long on the latest and greatest Note, imagine how long updates are going to take when they care even less a couple Android point releases down the line.
And I get 4.5-6 on a good day with the Note, and I'm actually pretty happy with that all things considered. The idle time is phenomenal as well. Three days of light use is not unusual for me.

If you want Lollipop flash it there are a bunch of good AOSP ROMS.
The key differences is the screen and the camera. Both are better on the Note 4.
As far as support goes if you root your phone support will last a long time, my Note 2 is already on AOSP Lollipop 5.0.2
As long as the phone has root, don't pick a phone based on software, you can flash whatever you want on it, pick a phone based on hardware.

I'm reluctant to try AOSP. I owned a Note 2, and CM was buggy as hell.
if your only purpose of switching is SOT let me tell you , you'll be quite disappointed.
You have a lot of people posting 8-9hrs of SOT but not matter what I try what rom i try what kernel i try there's no such thing happening for me.
You literally have to just have the phone on, with screen on without any timeout, doing absolutely nothing.

I personally would go with the note 4, i had the nexus 6 and wasn't impressed by it one bit, had a couple cool features but not compared to this. However, updates will be way faster on the nexus then on this...but the screen on note 4 in my opinion is way superior, i had to keep the brightness at like 85 percent to be able to see everything good, on here, i keep it at 25. Both fast though!
It took them a bit of time to work out all the bugs on CM on the Note2 but once they did it was WAY better than the stick ROM. CM11 on my Note 2 is the best it had ever run. WAY better than TW, better battery, and much faster.

To be honest, the only 3 reasons I went with the N4 were 1) the camera (now not so sure), 2) expandable storage through SD card (I could've just picked up the 64GB N6 and be ok) and 3) the pen.
P.S. @PunishedSnake Please refrain from the click-baiting thread names - clearly state what your question is in as much detail as possible in the subject of the thread to avoid members to have to click on it to find out what it's about.
The Note 4 is hands down better than the Nexus 6 when it comes to HARDWARE. Better camera, better screen, better battery life, IR blaster (remote control), comfortable to hold in hand, removable battery, expandable storage, etc. The only reason I would get the Nexus 6 is because of official support by Google as far as stock Android is concerned. Also the Note 4 will have a better resale value than the Nexus 6 if you decide to sell it. If you ever feel the need for a Nexus like experience with the Note 4 you can always root it to be more Nexus like.
I'd go ahead and return the nexus 6. And get the note 4.
I gave my nexus 6 to my mom.

I'm personally torn.
Having had both, and ultimately sticking w/ the Note 4 only because I still have a Nexus 5 to play around with, I'm just not in love with the Note 4. It's the first phone in the Note series I've owned, and while I enjoy the multi-view and S-Pen capabilities the best, both features are negated when running a non-TouchWiz ROM. Of course, that's to be expected, and not necessarily deal breakers, but I'm indifferent as to how long I'll stick around w/ the device.
To be fair, I should note that I was one of those who got a phone out of the "bad batch" w/ the camera issues, and didn't return it w/i 14 day window nor submit for RMA. Again, for what I personally use the phone for, even that isn't a deal breaker. And to be honest, the Lollipop based ROM I'm running now does hum like a butterfly and have NO complaints about battery life.
Depending on what's on the horizon in a few months, I may utilize the JUMP program or sell outright. Nice phone, for sure, but I think coming from a Nexus, I may be a bit underwhelmed. IMO, if you've come from TouchWiz, or are looking at the camera specs, go w/ the Note 4 and you won't be disappointed.

Had S4 for a while, was happy, but wanted bigger screen. Read some reviews and comparisons, watched some YouTube clips. Max Lee got his opinion on YouTube, should know him if you've been custom for a while.
S4 is older so there are a lot more custom ROMs, N4 is getting there.
Had it for about 2 months, I like it better than S4.
She always asks if I'm happy to see her or my note 4 is in my pocket
BTW when I first removed the battery cover, on the back side of it, it says, "You will be happy"! Good luck:good:
Good switch...but will you be happy...we can't decide or make such judgement for you.
You'll be happy for a few months, that is until the note 5 comes out. If I was you I'd wait it out a few more months and pick up a note 5 instead.
I'd be afraid if I wait for the 5 that they are gonna do what they did to the s6
Sent from my Galaxy S5 using Tapatalk
I'd also say wait. Then you'd have options, 5 or 4. And if it be still N4, then might find a better deal on it, stores or public getting rid of their obsolete N4
if note 5 becomes the s6...the note 4 will be on deals
Not sure about the galaxy 5 but I just came over from the M8 and I'm blown away by it, very happy I made the switch!
Note 4 is good to go and will be the one i keep for a while, easy to root, lots of customizations out there, and from all i have read and heard, the note 5 will be like the S6, no sd card or removable battery...but you never know...regardless, this thing is a beast and will be a fast phone that will get updated for a while.
Note 4 is wack! Completely wack! Either that or me and the 2 other people I know that personally have the phone all got lemons! I for real can't stand all the bugs and weird crap that my note 4 has a does. I'm getting another phone this week that's just my personal opinion. My note 3 was 100 times better.
It's a good switch.

I switched yesterday, already rooted the same night and twrp, no hiccups. I like it better so far

I own a Note 4 and absolutely love it.. TouchWiz still sucks and STILL makes it lag though but once I flashed an AOSP ROM on it holy f*ck does it fly with ZERO hiccups and now I can make the speaker volume even louder using FauxSound. Couldn't be more happy.. Either get a Note 4 or just wait til October for Note 5. Personally I'd probably wait but like another user said they might not include removable battery/SD card in the Note 5 but hey, in that case if you really wanted those features and they dont include them just get the Note 4 in October anyway, up to you.. That's what I would do though :good:

Ditto. How could note 3 possibly b better than N4?
Wait for the note 5 to come out then if you care about saving money get the note 4 if not get the note 5. If you want a big screen that gives more freedom then just get a nexus or lg g4, they are on stock and dont have useless features like the s pen.

Samsung Galaxy S6 or Nexus 6?

I have an option between S6 (128gb) or Nexus 6 (32GB), what would you get? Either phone will be free, I am just not sure what to get. I currently use a Note 4 and really have been disappointed by constant freezing and bad Bluetooth connectivity. It always seems that my Samsung phones slow down over time and I don't know if I should even consider the s6.
Any suggestions?

The Nexus is the clear winner if you want a large phone and like to tinker. But if you want a smaller phone, that is probably a better, faster, higher quality device, the Galaxy is the winner.

Yes the Galaxy S6 has a serious RAM issue that hasn`t even been adressed in the newest 5.1.1 update. Besides that its a breeze to use vanilla android over Touchwizz, bloatware and KNOX. The S6 camera and screen are great though but for the rest the Nexus 6 is the phone to have imo

My Note 4 was great for about 4 months and its been issue after issue since then. I thought about rooting and flashing a rom but Sprint Note 4 doesn't have that many options when it comes to custom roms. I got my wife the S6 and she loves it but all she does is take pictures and text but I am looking to get back into rooting and flashing so looks like the Nexus 6 should be my choice.

I didn't know about the RAM issue, I just updated my wife's to 5.1.1, I'll keep an eye on it and see if she has issues.

I just got my nexus 6 today and love it. My LG G2 was great but the digitizer got the "ghost strip" or whatever you call it when you cant touch part of the screen. Im told a LOT of the phones from LG do that and every model so far from g2 to g4 from what att wireless says. Anyway. Im no samsung fan and i like vanilla. I went with this because i didnt want a Qualcom 810 or 820. Ill wait till Qualcomm or Mediatek comes out in a phone supposedly with the decicores.

I purchased an S6 Edge thinking that it might replace my Nexus 6. I ended up selling the S6 Edge and am happily back to my Nexus 6. The S6 definitely has an advantage in the camera department, maybe build quality (if you like glass), and screen clarity and brightness. The problem with the S6 Edge in my opinion was the amount of real world lag there was with the phone. I figured with the Octacore processor and higher memory the phone would be smooth but that was not the case for me. I even reinstalled firmware, rooted and debloated all unnecessary apps but even then it didn't feel as smooth as the Nexus 6. I don't think the lag was solved with the updated 5.1.1 update either. I also forgot to add that the battery life on the S6 was not good either. These were just my findings so take it for what it's worth.
If you are big on storage space and an amazing camera, with a small we yet more crisp and beautiful screen, go with the S6.the camera is far superior in all aspects.
If you want freedom, a large yet still pretty screen (but not nearly as nice as the S6) and the ability to easily flash and tweak, with a solid vanilla experience, go with the N6.

I am not huge on storage and could easily get by with the 32gb N6. Camera is not a big deal for me since I don't take many pictures but I definitely agree that it has a beautiful screen.
Overall, sounds like the Nexus will be the phone for me. I don't mind the size since I already have a Note 4 and I simply miss stock Android... Can't wait, should have it by mid July.

Cheers!
Get the 128gb s6 sell it and get a nexus 6. Go drink beers with the profit.
If you want an iphone running android then s6 is for you. It got cralpy memory management, you cannot multitask by switching between recent apps. Nexus 6 feels smoother and snappier too. Screen is big advantage of s6 over nexus 6 and so is the camera. So is up to you what you value most.

I also debated about getting the s6 or the n6. But when I discovered the freedom with vanilla android I became hooked. In terms of camera: I don't use it so much, only for snapchat. Internal memory: no problem. So nexus 6 IMO

Same here, I have a 64gb as card in my Note 4 with like 150 pictures.... I could care less about the camera, I can't wait to mess around with vanilla Android

On my 32GB Nexus 6, I have 1,200 pics, several 1080P @60fps video clips, about 300 MP3 songs, and some work files, my apps, and I still have 12GB free.
I guess that SD storage just isn't as important to me as it used to be, unless you just want to carry your entire music and video library around with you all the time...
My 64GB Nexus 6 has no storage issues, but it frequently moves pictures+video off-phone, anyway.
Even on stock, it's been fast, smooth and practically bug-free since purchase. There were maybe 2 or 3 times that I had to reboot the phone due to a weird hang situation.
I've seen the S6 and although I like Samsung "vivid" displays, the Nexus 6 feels far more realistic and easier on my eyes, while remaining quite crisp.
My pictures with the Nexus 6 have been good to terrific, with the average being around very good/great territory, so I'm quite happy with its camera using the stock app.
I love the Nexus 6 size, especially for these aging eyes. Never going smaller. Ever. So long as I can afford not to downsize.
Apple owners still gawk at my phone. I'm not making that up - I get "wow"-toned questions from them in public places.
Holding onto this phone for awhile, no hurry to get the latest tech, etc. That, and it's become an implicit part of so much I do without consciously thinking about how I communicate, organize, research, etc. My prior phones were all good tools, but this is organically fitting into my lifestyle.

I have both. Other than the cameras and potentially the build quality, there's not much that I miss from the S6. However, I do miss the camera so dearly.
Screen is definitely sharper due to the higher PPI, and also it's brighter and better colour reproduction but keep in mind that the N6 screen isn't half bad.
The reason I sticked to using my N6 majority of the time is due to what many have mentioned - Memory problem. The phone itself is snappy. Touchwiz has toned down a lot and I actually do enjoy it. However that occasional lag drives me absolutely nuts. That 3 seconds wait between taps kills it.
Got my Nexus 6 already....loving it so far!

I already pre-ordered mine. Main reason is I don't think I can stand the S6 lag anymore. Latest OTA "fixed" it but not completely. Samsung, you were so close to making the perfect phone. So close....
I'm seriously considering getting one too, I'm tired of the ****ty battery life, will try getting an exchange from T-mobile and if the new S6 (probably refurb) still has battery issues I'll get a 5X. My main concern is that I have a 64gb S6.
Battery life will be better but not great and that's coming from the lead designer of the new nexus phones. I still enjoy my s6 even though it's stock. Maybe next year I'll switch to a nexus phone

Where did you see that? I'd like to get some context cause it would really surprise me if that big battery and Android M doze feature doesn't make it a battery beast.

The Snapdragon 810 in the Nexus 6p SOC is not a good alternative. Slower, hotter and I guess therefor eating up more battery.
Camera wise, LG G4 and S6 are still king imo. (here are some shots - best case scenario-: http://www.theverge.com/2015/9/29/9417599/nexus-5x-6p-camera-photos-images)
While I would love to buy another nexus, I have to pass this one and wait for next year, as it is way too expensive imo.
Be warned! No band 12 support (at least initially) with the new nexus phones. T-mobile won't let unlocked phones use band 12 unless they become VoLTE certified.
This is a galaxy s6 thread not a nexus thread.

A couple things I'm hopeful for. 1, the 810 is ver 2.1 so it should fix those issues. 2, the camera has been rated and did extremely well. http://www.androidauthority.com/nexus-6p-second-best-mobile-camera-645771/
Back to the Snapdragon 810 vs our phones. I'm so disappointed with what Samsung has done to this fantastic hardware with their crappy software. My phone lags, stutters. My old HTC M8 is lightning fast compared. So specs are great and all...(dont misinterpret my frustration, its solely towards Samsung)
Just wish we could get a vanilla based rom for the s6. :/ lol

I've been trying to figure this out... I chatted with T-Mobile but still don't really have a clear answer. I currently run on Band 4 on my Nexus 6 (which I love BTW) and my S6. Where I'm at, Columbus, Ohio, there is not support for Band 12. If/when Band 12 is activated here, will I then lose the ability to access LTE via Band 4? Or would Band 12 just simply be added in addition to Band 4?
This is the only reason I am debating on canceling my pre-order for the Nexus 6P... For those wanting a direct comparison of an N6 vs S6... I'll keep it short and sweet, the N6 blows away the S6 in every aspect except camera and fingerprint reader... The fact that the 6P has a significantly improved camera, and a fingerprint reader, it was a no brainer for me. The N6 has SOOO much support on XDA, endless options, constantly getting updates, doesn't have the super annoying poor ram management of the Galaxy lineup, I could go on and on. I'm still going to hold onto my S6 and sell my N6 and OPO for the 6P. I think once Chase is added to Samsung Pay that may drive me back to the S6... but as I flip back and forth between my N6 and S6, I find myself constantly going back to the N6 for longer periods of time.
I'd have a 6 already if not for the size. I can't wait to actually sacrifice this 6S to a hammer and get something else. The holy grail would be the Sony Z5, but it's unlikely to make it here. I'm very disappointed the 6P/5X don't have wireless charging though. Push comes to shove though, the 5X might be the way to go.

It would be added in addition to band 4. The only issue I have is in my house band 12 is always a stronger signal but it doesn't have the fastest bandwith. So I might get a faster download speed with band 4 even though it has a week er signal. I can manually change to band 4 with my s6 by using the code *#2263#

It's odd because I get usually full LTE signal inside my home, but my speeds are usually unbearable. I've chatted with t force on this too.. They've done some things that occasionally make it better, like 5mbps, but its usually .5 mbps or less.

Have you tried using the Play Store to browse anything whatsoever? Holy s**t is it laggy and jittery. I'm on the latest version, and it's still a jittery mess. Also selecting a text from the notification shade takes 5-10 seconds to open Hangouts. Those are the two big ones for me. That and the constantly restarting apps even when they've been hanging out in RAM draining battery. WTF? One example: Chrome can hangout running in the background draining my battery like a champ, but if I switch back to it, it reloads...every...single...tab. Grrrr!
