[Q] About to use the lollipop RUU but have some questions. - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there, so I'm looking to flash lollipop to my M7 but first want to verify I've taken the right steps.
Here's my phone's info:
M7_UL PVT SHIP S-ON RH
HBOOT-1.56.00000
RADIO-4A.23.3263.28
OpenDSP-v32.120.274.0909
OS-4.19.631.9
eMMC-boot 2048MB
MID: PN0712000
CID: ROGER001
version-main 4.19.631.9
Now, as far as I'm aware, this is the unlocked edition of the M7. I'm hoping to use this RUU here To flash lollipop onto my phone:
RUU_M7_UL_L50_SENSE60_MR_BrightstarUS_WWE_7.17.1540.7_Radio_4T.35.3218.16_10.33Q.1718.01L_release_420191_signed_2.exe (can't post link because I just registered)
My concern is that while my phone is listed as M7_UL (m7_unlocked I gather), the CID reads "Roger001". I currently have used the phone only with Virgin Mobile in Canada (Bell Canada's network) and had no problems, but I just want to make sure this won't mess up my radio or make it unusable with my carrier.
I've also gone ahead and backed up all my data from my phone on my computer, and created a nandroid backup as well (although I'm not sure if I could even use the nandroid if things went poorly, because I think I'll be losing custom recovery right?)
Any advice or links to information I might be missing would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Also, forgot to mention, my phone is rooted and the bootloader is unlocked.

Nope it won't work, simply because you are s-on, you require 631 RUUs simple as that, you cannot flash a 1540 RUU, however if you go s-off then you can.
M7 UL mean HTC One model 7 not sure what the u stands for, but the L is with LTE support.
You would need to s-off your phone to change the cid and flash the developer firmware in order to flash the developer 1540 ruu, s-off can only be done using sunshine and will cost $25.

nothing will stop you just change CID BS_US001 and flash ruu

So if I S-Off using rumrunner then change my CID to "BS_US001" I can successfully flash the RUU?
The thought of S-Off scares me slightly, can someone confirm that there's no chance that this method will brick my device, and that I won't have any issues with the radio?

Yes with s-off you'll be able to flash the firmware and then the RUU

The procedure to s-off itself is not risky, but when s-off is achieved, you'll always have to be careful what you flash. S-OFF remove protection from crucial partitions on your phone and let you flash anything you want without verification. So if you flash something not compatible with your phone, you can brick it.

You'll be fine using dev edition on Canadian carriers. I have personally tested on Fido, Rogers, Telus and Koodo. Should work too on Bell/Virgin.

Great, thanks! In terms of what's compatible, is it pretty much just using common sense, i.e. not flashing a rom meant for the M8 or some other phone, or are there more things that could make something incompatible that I would need to learn about in the future?
Also, the ROM I posted here and intend to flash, it's for sure compatible? Sorry I know I'm probably being a bit overcautious

Yes its safe to use that ruu on your phone.
TO avoid potential brick, always make sure you flash files for
M7_U or M7_UL variant. Files for other variants (e.g M7WLS will brick your phone)
Do not try to flash roms for other phones. We often see ppl bricking their M7 because they have mistakenly flashed an HTC Droid DNA rom on it.
Check MD5 values on your download to make sure your files are not corrupted before flashing <--- important!
Ask questions if you are not sure of the file you want to flash.
---------- Post added at 06:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:09 PM ----------
and if you want to update your firmware, very important:
use a full firmware package
if using firmware package from ota files, they must be flashed incrementally.

Sorry, one final question. Do I understand you correctly that I need to first flash a new firmware for my phone before using the RUU? If so where would I find this? I originally thought that the RUU would update the firmware for me.

You normally need to be on 6.xx.xxx.x or 7.xx.xxx.x firmware to use the 7.xx.xxx.x RUU. You can try to use it but im pretty sure the ruu will stop at 5% (checking headers). If so, you must flash the firmware first. You can use the 6.07.1540.2 firmware posted in my thread.

[Q] Back to stock for Waranty

Hi,
I need to get my phone back to stock for warranty before my USB port completely dies (not it works only at certain angles).
I read few threads regarding getting the phone back to stock but I am missing few infos I am asking for your help on this.
The data that I got and believe that is needed:
mainver: 2.32.1010.1
RADIO: 3822.01.08.14_M
HBOOT: 6.13.1002
and I bough phone in Switzerland and have: HTC_GER version (102)
I believe that following the post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1359555 is the way to go.
Which RUU do I use due to my mainver ang HTC_GER?
Will vivo_downgrade.img from mentioned thread work for me; basically should the procedure and links on mentioned thread work for my phone?
Thank you very much!

Yes you have found the correct procedure to follow:
At this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033922
I noticed that they have the 2.32.1010.1 RUU that you should use given the current mainver you have.
Thank you but I do have a question regarding the radio.
Will I have a problem flashing mainver RUU since I upgraded the radio or will everything work ok?
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App

The RUU should work
I checked on http://www.filefactory.com/f/e45d6fe3dcf51228/ for ROM for mainver: 2.32.1010.1 nad it is KT_KR (honestly I do not know what it stands for) but I figured out that my phone is suppose to have HTC_GER version (102).
How will that work for warranty - which ROM to use?

Then you will need to use the 3.08.405.3 version because the 2.30.405.1 version is lower than the mainver that your phone is reporting. You only option is to use a RUU with a higher version. You should be able to use 3.08.405.3 for your region.
Now I am stuck at splash screen.
What I did is download RUU_VIVO_SENSE30_S_HTC_WWE_3.08.405.3_Radio_20.4802.30.0822U_3822.10.08.28_M_release_227170_signed.exe
got out the rom.zip file, renamed it to PG32...zip and rebooted my phone to update (go back to stock ROM). Later my intentions were to use the vivodowngrade to get back to S-ON.
After the update I am stuck at HTC logo. What to do?

Just follow this guide.
I managed to somehow get it to the next state:
I installed a rom.zip form (RUU_Vivo_Gingerbread_S_KT_KR_2.32.1010.1_Radio_20.2810.30.085AU_3805.06.03.16_M_release_199684_signe.exe) since it has the same maiver as I had it by renaming it to PG32IMG.zip and placing it to the SD.
After "flashing" it wrote me that it is a wrong version. The result:
If I turn it off it turns on again by it self (I can't turn it off unless i bull the battery) and it displays (no ROM is started):
**** Security Warning****
VIVO PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.13.0000
RADIO-3805.06.03.16_M
eMMC-boot
...
...
...
It looks like it is S-ON - is this correct? (I might have done something wright )
Can I now try to install a RUU (RUU_VIVO_SENSE30_S_HTC_WWE_3.08.405.3_Radio_20.4802.30.0822U_3822.10.08.28_M_release_227170_signed.exe) ? or do I have to get rom.zip and the procedure on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1359555 ?
Thank you!
I tried to install via RUU and it worked
Thanks everyone for help

Flashing a RUU?

Hello there
These are the current stats of my device:
ROM: TrickDroid 7.5.0
CID: superCID 11111111
S-OFF
Recovery: TWRP 2.5.0
Bootloader: Unlocked
If I want to flash a RUU, I understand that just about ANY RUU will work because I have Super CID, but I want to know if there certain prerequists to flashing a RUU? Like for instance would I have to relock bootloader, set it to S-ON, flash stock recovery first, etc?
I'll probably be flashing either one of those:
RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.29.707.3_R_Radio_4A .14.3250.13_10.33.1150.01_release_311678_signed.exe
RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.7_Radio_4A.13. 3231.27_10.31.1131.05_release_310878_signed.exe
Thanks

You should be able to flash the ruu the way you are. The only differences between your phone and mine when I flashed the brightstar ruu is the Rom I was on and I had relocked my bootloader. S-off will be retained after the flash but twrp will be replaced with the stock recovery. If it fails to flash you can try it again after relocking the bootloader but I don't think it's necessary.
Thank you very much. I won't need the bootloader to be unlocked anyhow in order to receive OTA updates so I might as well relock it and not flash a custom recovery. I do not need to be S-ON in order to receive OTA updates, right? Just locked bootloader, RUU, stock recovery and the proper CID (like HTC__001, for instance)? And while S-OFF, is changing CID from 111111 to HTC__001 as easy as using one command like
Code:
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
?

Your pretty much spot on... Keep in mind that for otas your model id needs to be right for the ruu you flash as well as the cid. For example my phone is a US AT&T model has the same model id for the US dev version. So I just needed to be sure to flash the US dev ruu (brightstar) and then set the correct cid (bs_us001) and life is good. Problem is I don't personally know the model id or cid for the ruus you intend to flash. The good news is you can find your model id as well as change it if you need to. The threads to do this are pretty easy to find I'll get a link if you need me too. And to confirm "fastboot oem writecid ********" is what ya need... The asterisks are of course whatever cid you intend to write.

You can find your model id by doing this in this thread if you need to
Thank you so much for your reply. So from what I understood, in order to go back to stock, I'd have to flash a RUU that will be compatible with my Model ID, correct? I do know what my model is, and it is PN0711000 if I am not mistaken (I have it saved on a text file somewhere), but the problem is that I will not know which model ID I need and for which RUU. And by the way, if something ever goes wrong with my device after returning it to full stock but with a different Model ID, wouldn't HTC be able to figure that out and void my warranty? Sorry for the 20 questions I am very new to this. I appreciate your help.

Just replied to you in another thread lol... Um if that's your model id I believe... Emphasis on believe... That matches the Europe ruu and possibly the Asia one too. Maybe someone who knows for sure will pop in here and confirm. As far as the warranty stuff if there is no ruu for you specific carrier then make a fresh nandroid backup of the stock Rom and with s-off can be made like it was when you bought it.
Yeah I just saw your post there, thank you lol. Unfortunately I was stupid enough not to make a Nandroid Backup of my stock ROM before I went ahead and flashed a custom one.

Newbie needs help

Okay, I am really new to all of this modding business.
I wished to install a stock android rom, simply because I preferred it over Sense.
I used the autoinstaller to install, Cyanogenmod 10.2.
Anyway, I done research and checked that you could use the EQ in the rom to sort of, replace the 'beats' audio, although simply it isn't good enough for me and I just prefer stock sense over the rom.
I didn't flash it myself, the application done it for me although there were a few hiccups.
I simply wish to unroot the phone, and lock the bootloader and just generally return it back to how it was.
I do not have any back ups, because the phone wasn't rooted before hand, the installer done this all for me.
Is there anyway I can return to the stock Sense
If it helps, I am living in Europe - England, and the phone is sim locked to EE.
Any help would be appreciated returning my phone to stock.
Thank you.

I'm pretty sure when you look for an RUU, you'll need to get one for the Europe release. Ignore the Cingular or Sprint variants.
There are plenty of guides, you can use the ones from clsA.
There are loads more:
http://android.sc/unroot-htc-one-re...roid-4-2-2-jelly-bean-firmware-using-toolkit/
For the official RUU updaters for full stock I'd use these:
http://www.htc1guru.com/downloads/ruu-file-downloads/
Reboot the phone into boot loader and try to match the radio version with the RUU updater online. If you are in a lower version then it will update you. If you are on a higher version you won't be able to run it without gaining S-OFF and downgrading.
The RUU must be the same version or newer than the version you are currently running, but make sure it's the Europe version.
My S seems to already be on, so thats one step I would have to miss, although I am confused regarding which RUU I need, the data I have follows:
M7_UL PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT 1.54.0000
RADIO- 4A.17.3250.14
OpenDSP - v31.120.274.0617
OS - 2.24.61.1
eMMC-boot - 2040MB
-
It seems for some RUU files I need S-OFF? I am quite confused, could anyone lead me to the correct direction please

There doesn't seem to be an RUU that you could use without gaining s-off and downgrading your hboot.
I think you may have to gain s-off. Then running an RUU after downgrading. I have tried to look for one you could use right now but they all require a lower hboot version.
Take a look at this:

[Q] All roms going into boot loop

Hey guys been going at this for about 14 hours
Story
flashed amazing android hd 3.1 thinking i had 5.1, when i realized that, i downloaded 5.1 and flashed it. Seemed to work except as soon as phone began to boot i got a pink screen followed by the htc and beats audio screen (logos were different colors) at this point it wouldn't do anything else.
I rebooted and went in recovery (twrp 2.6.3.0) and wiped cache, tried re flashing and same thing so i went in twrp (im a nweb haven't done this since i had my hero) formatted the data. Yes everything was gone no OS to boot from so i tried using sideloader but it wouldnt go past start up process i resorted to using adb, i pushed the amazing android 3.1 rom and flashed it. everything seemed to go fine. Seemed to boot, when i went to unlock the screen to set the phone up it just rebooted, it kept doing that over and over. Installed insert coin rom and did the same thing. idk what else to do :/ tried loading stock ruu but it gave me a fail message (cant remember what it was)
I never made any back ups as i didnt care about losing any data
Would appreciate some help guys
Im on mac and windows 7

thanks, im about to give it a shot
good morning lol
ok since im on s-on 4.06 do i skip this?
If you are S-OFF flash the 3.04 s-off firmware or 3.05 s-off firmware or 3.05.651.6 s-off firmware or 4.06.651.4 s-off firmware and you are done. If you are already on 4.06.651.4 you will have to flash the 3.05.651.6 s-off firmware first...reason being is the 4.06 s-off firmware does not have the latest radio included (use the same commands from 5.)
1.Download the 3.04 s-on firmware or 3.05 s-on firmware or 3.05.651.6 s-on firmware or 4.06.651.4 s-on firmware
2.Rename it firmware.zip (put the firmware.zip into the platform tools folder or the folder attached below)
3.Boot to bootloader
4.Lock bootloader(fastboot oem lock)
5.Then use these commands:
and go straight to this?
7.Then unlock the bootloader again and re-flash TWRP 2.6.3.0. (before formatting go to setting/screen and disable screen timeout)
8.Within TWRP 2.6.3.0 select Wipe > Format Data(it will ask you to confirm by typing YES) once done adb push a rom to your phone (adb push nameofrom.zip /sdcard/ ).
8a. If you are using the 4.06.651.4 s-on firmware I would suggest you push this Stock Rooted Odexed Rom to your device or it may not boot.
8b. After flashing the 4.06.651.4 rom you will most likely need to flash the latest radio because the 4.06 firmware does not have a radio included find it HERE
9.Optional but recommended: S-OFF using Rumrunner or Firewater
10.Win lol
:') thank you so much

There is no RUU available yet for this version.
Can't find any nandroid backup neither.
You are probably stuck with custom roms for now or you could achieve s-off with Sunshine and convert to another version like the wwe 7.19.401.2 version.

Hi,
Do you know what the release schedule is like for the RUU? Or when it is likely to be released?
If not which other rom can i use for the time being that is stable.

There is no schedule for RUU. RUUs are not intended to be used by customers so no guarantee there will be one released for this version. Maybe you could check on ir-files.com if you can find one there but unfortunately you must paid for an account to download any files from there.
Im personally using Insert Coin 7.0.9 and its stable. (5.0.2 Sense 7)

unless you find a 7.19.61.10 RUU or a 7.19.61.10 Nandroid backup, No.
You'll need to convert to another version (requires s-off) or keep using custom roms/close to stock custom roms. You should always check if you can go back to stock (and how) before flashing stuff to your phone.

Change your CID and MID to something else so you can flash a RUU
e.g:
change your CID to HTC__001
Change your MID to PN0710000
Flash the 7.19.401.2 RUU.

1) Is there a guide for this?
2) Do you know the last time the company i got my phone from released a RUU for my phone. Is it that they do not release them or that they release them slowly?

everything you need in the general section of the M7 forum
The company you got your phone from is not releasing RUU. RUU are from HTC and they have no obligation to release it to customers. Latest RUU for your phone is 6.16.61.8 and because its a downgrade, it will requires s-off to be flashed.
So you can either achieve s-off to flash the older RUU and then OTA update (25 USD for sunshine + 15 USD for an account at ir-file.com to download the ruu)
or
you can s-off and convert to another version (25 USD for sunshine, 0$ for the 7.19.401.2 RUU since its already hosted for free on androidfilehost.com)
