Hi.
Over the weekend i was i the mountains and had my Z3c with me. We all went in the jacuzzi. I didnt realize i had the phone in my pocket untill 5 min later. So i took it out and dried it with a towel and left it indoors. I had checked that the flaps were tightly sealed after i got done skiing, about 20 min before the jacuzzi. About an hour later i went in and dried myself up and started using the phone. Half of the screen was fading darker and it told me that the sd card was removed in an unsafe way. I took the sd and sim card out and realised that they were damped and had a few droplets on them. I thought the fading was a visual bug so i turned it off and on again. At the start up fase the hole screen blinked and was making wierd colours. After a while the screen stoped working entiryly. When i try to turn it on now it vibrates 3 times and flashes a red light.
I never use the flaps. I have used them twice and that was at instalation and after the jacuzzi. I use the magnetic charger. The phone is 7 months old. Sorry for my broken english.

Hi fellas, long time no see!
So, first of all, yes, I've used the search, but what I've found is threads about wet phones, mine I believe is already dry.
Situation: I'm in the club, glass of absolut and redbull in my hand, phone in my jeans pocket, extra glass of absolut w/redbull on the bar next to me. Fat drunk aproaches the bar and tips my glass with his elbow, all my drink spilled over my clothes. After a brief discussion I realized the guy was too drunk and was a worthless douche so I let it go. I reach for my phone and realize my pocket is soaked wet, when I take it out, phone is out, red light dim. So I turn it off, take it apart and forget about it til the next day. Next day, it began to turn on, but shut itslef off after a few secs, so I take it apart again (that is back cover, battery, SIM and sd, I dont have the screwdrivers to go further), cleaned what I could with alcohol, let it vent in front of a fan for a few hours, then in a bowl of rice for 2 days, no good.
So I got an extra phone and let it sit for more than a month. The other day I decided to give it another try and voila! it worked, had to be dry by now! used it for a day, left it charging, when I came back, it was off again, unresponsive. I have an extra battery, so I got one of those universal battery chargers, because I though the problem could be the phone not charging the battery. It was (even when the light turns on red and it says charging and all). So, first weird thing, light turns on red, screen says charging, but USB wont wont actually charge the battery if it is somewhere below.. 70% maybe, it does charge if it is lets say about 80% or above.
I used it like this for a week or so, and now, when I turn it on, after the bootscreen and the initial loop, the phone now powers itself off (with the text "turning off" -or whatever it says- and vibrating and all), even with the battery full. Tried with both batteries full, plugged in the usb (the light is green when full, and will even charge), erased battery stats (recovery works fine) but the damn thing wont load android properly!
Any ideas what might be causing this? it should be dry by now (its been like 2 months already and I let it vent and used the rice method), it doesnt smell funny (you know, like burnt, like when sth short circuits).
btw, also tried flashing the ROM again (i always have a couple in the sd just in case) and didn't work neither, does exactly the same.
i know it is a bit long to read but i wanted to give you the most insight i could. i know that it works! it did a couple days ago, but something got screwed with the startup and i dont know what it is!
i see that u tried flashing the ROM again, but just to be sure u did do a super wipe correct?
this is very strange though, and yeah it should be dried by now.
Thanks for the reply, and yes, I did! I'm sure that is not the problem :/
So, question to the great Milestone community. A couple nights ago, my lovely girlfriend placed a Slurpee on the screen of my phone while I was asleep, and unable to defend my year and a half old handset.
When I woke the next morning, the phone had significant moisture underneath the screen. I placed the phone in a warm dry area (dash of my truck) to evaporate the moisture. After several hours, the problem seemed to have gotten worse as now instead of two square inches of droplets on the lower right portion of my screen, the moisture now consumed roughly 80% of the screen, panicking a little, I removed the battery and put my phone in a bag of uncooked rice, a trick I've heard many times.
24h later, the moisture had dissapeared. I noticed when I went to put the battery back in that the water damage indicator had tripped and turned red... so I was a little disheartened at that. The phone booted fine however, and the touch screen responded as well as it had before. Now two days later, the touch screen goes beserk frequently, and after a reboot, works fine for about an hour before going nuts again.
Now to the point. I have heard much of digitizer issues with the milestone... would this amount of moisture damaged mine? Is there any further steps I can take to save my phone? I am locked into a contract for another year and a half, and would like the phone to last nearly that long... any help and input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Braidonh

Hi, I have owned a ZR for about 8 months now, Today I took it in the pool for the first time (after checking the flaps and back cover) for 5 minutes (not continously). It worked fine after I took it out of pool (cleaned it with fresh water after getting out of pool as well). However, after 3 hours the phone didnt turn on. I removed the back cover and there were water droplets inside (all three LDIs had turned red). After closer inspection, I also noticed that there were droplets inside the camera lens and flash
- I dont have access to rice right now (will have it in 12 hours)
- I have put my phone (battery, SIM removed; all flaps opened) under a light to 'dry'
What are the chances of the phone being able to recover? What should be my next steps ( After drowning it in a bowl of rice of course)

It has been submerged in a bowl of rice for about 12 hours. How long should I give it before trying to turn it on again? What could be any signs that it is not fully dried yet...?

You need to keep the phone 3 days there.I hope its not too late.Than take it out,put the battery and try.
OMG You saved me from thinking that the flaps are the only reason for water leakage in the phone
If you want something more effective than rice order some calcium chloride flakes (you can get it on ebay). It's the same principle as rice but is far better at absorbing moisture.
Currently have the same issue, I contacted Sony and they told me to go the the nearest service center. Mine started when I accidentally dropped my phone around 4ft high
this same thing happened to me, droplets on the front cam and back, even the sensors has droplets, but to my suprise my phone runs perfectly. i dont know what happened. took it for a swim, after an hour droplets showed. i just opened the flaps and in minutes the droplets was dry.

Moisture :highfive:
I know it seems like a stupid question but I've got nothing to loose at the moment so I'll explain my situation.
About 3 months ago I took my Xperia Z1 for a swim in the pool to see how the camera performed underwater. The screen started to go black when I took it out and then it completely shut off. I took it inside and turned it on again. It lasted a minute before shutting off so I plugged it in to the charger and got the boot logo before shutting off again with nothing: Screen was off, no led, no vibrations, nothing.
I opened the flaps and they were still white and still are today and there was no moisture or anything. I tried plugging the phone in a few days ago to see if it still works and the led turned on and it just stays like that with no action. Left it for a few hours but still nothing.
I don't really need this phone anymore because I have a Z5 now but a second handset is always nice to have. The pool water would have had a very small amount of salt in it and I think that might be causing issues. Either that or there is still water in there (unlikely) or parts have rusted or even the phone might have got shocked when I plugged it in to charge. What I was thinking was opening the ports and soaking it in water for a minute or less and then taking it out and putting it in a bag of dry rice to drain the water out of it. I'm not sure if it will work but I haven't got anything to loose so I was wondering if it is even worth giving a shot or even some tips would be nice.

Resoaking your phone will help as much as trying to jump from a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean for the second time and you can't swim...

To clarify, the Xperia Z1 relies on closed ports to ensure waterproofing. So soaking it a second time would destroy it further.
there is a easy way you can try.
buy some electrical contact cleaner from a computer shop or maplins etc, spray that all over the circuitry and contacts and scrub it off with a paint brush, there is a good chance it will work again as it will remove any corrosion casued by water, ive repaired hundreds of water damaged phones this way and it doesnt need any special things.....
Hi all,
About 3 days ago I dropped my Xperia x Performance in a lake. It took me about 15-20 minutes to retrieve it as it was night time and I dropped it through the crack of a dock but it was only about 5 feet deep. After I took it out I wiped it off and saw that it was still on and apparently working fine (waterproof phone right?). The next morning I noticed condensation under the camera and also while browsing the phone it would constantly switch to the camera app (within about 5 seconds of opening chrome). So I took the back off it and blew a hair dryer on low heat at it for about 1.5 hours and then put in my oven on dehydrate for an hour. In hindsight I realize this probably wasn't enough time to fully dry it but I put the back on again and turned it on and it worked fine for 2 days.
Today while using it at work the backlight suddenly cut out. About 1 minute later it came back on. I went to fiddle with the display settings and then the backlight cut out again. It didn't come back on. When I got home I took the back off again, took the motherboard out and washed it in 70% isopropyl alcohol and gentle scrubbed it with a toothbrush. Then I took all the parts and put in my oven on dehydrate and left it for about 5 or 6 hours. I put it back together and nothing has changed. The backlight still doesn't work, but otherwise the phone appears to be working normally. The LED notification indicator and charging indicator are working. I can use the camera button to take pictures (I hear the camera sound) I am receiving notifications. If I look very closely I can read notifications in the lock screen and I can power it on and off, but as soon as I try to unlock it I can't see anything because it's too dark (I wish my screen background was white!).
Is there anyway I can fix this? Please help I don't want to buy a new phone.
