I know it seems like a stupid question but I've got nothing to loose at the moment so I'll explain my situation.
About 3 months ago I took my Xperia Z1 for a swim in the pool to see how the camera performed underwater. The screen started to go black when I took it out and then it completely shut off. I took it inside and turned it on again. It lasted a minute before shutting off so I plugged it in to the charger and got the boot logo before shutting off again with nothing: Screen was off, no led, no vibrations, nothing.
I opened the flaps and they were still white and still are today and there was no moisture or anything. I tried plugging the phone in a few days ago to see if it still works and the led turned on and it just stays like that with no action. Left it for a few hours but still nothing.
I don't really need this phone anymore because I have a Z5 now but a second handset is always nice to have. The pool water would have had a very small amount of salt in it and I think that might be causing issues. Either that or there is still water in there (unlikely) or parts have rusted or even the phone might have got shocked when I plugged it in to charge. What I was thinking was opening the ports and soaking it in water for a minute or less and then taking it out and putting it in a bag of dry rice to drain the water out of it. I'm not sure if it will work but I haven't got anything to loose so I was wondering if it is even worth giving a shot or even some tips would be nice.

Resoaking your phone will help as much as trying to jump from a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean for the second time and you can't swim...

To clarify, the Xperia Z1 relies on closed ports to ensure waterproofing. So soaking it a second time would destroy it further.
there is a easy way you can try.
buy some electrical contact cleaner from a computer shop or maplins etc, spray that all over the circuitry and contacts and scrub it off with a paint brush, there is a good chance it will work again as it will remove any corrosion casued by water, ive repaired hundreds of water damaged phones this way and it doesnt need any special things.....

Howdy,
Long version:
I left my galaxy note on the counter in my kitchen which is apparently not quite level. Overnight water pooled under it(never submerged, even partially). I did not notice until my alarm went off the following morning. As of this time it was still functioning properly. I moved it, wiped off the water. Took the protective case off and wiped the water off it was well, hooked it up to the charger and went back to sleep. 15 minutes later the vibration function went nuts while it popped up complaints about low battery. I say the vibration went nuts, because it wasn't the sustained vibration like you normally get it. It would cycle on and off about every half a second. I panicked, turned off the device and removed the battery where I noticed that the battery was wet, and under the battery as well.
So I wipe it off, put in a bag of rice and go back to sleep. Approximately 15(yes, way too soon) hours later I pull it out, put the battery in and turn it on. Works fine. few hours later I hook it up the charger and it immediately complains about the battery temperature.
Short version:
Phone at in a pool of water for 5+ hours, never fully submerged. Basically if you poured water on a level surface and sat your phone in it, thats what happened.. Anyways Water worked its way inside the phone(based on disasemble that occured later), and started vibrating randomly. took out batteyr and left in rice for 15 hours. Put it back together attempted to charge, phone complains battery is too hot immedately.
Observations:
I take out the battery and disasemble the device down to the point where the circuit board is separate from the display.
The far right ( +) connector that touches the battery appears to be slightly corrodeded. I rub it with a cotton swab to clean it. From watermarks it doesn't look like anything else got wet and by now its completely dry. I don't see any 'red' spots or stickers, but I'm unfamiliar with the water damage indicators, and the information i found from searches was innacurate(no white dot on top of battery, no red marks anywhere on it)
Panic
I put it back together try again, same deal. The phone doesn't seem to have a way to view the battery temperature reading(*#0*#), so I downloaded an app called 'Doms diagnostic tool' which indicates that the battery temperature is pegged at 80 degrees C and it does not fluctuate. I don't know if this app is actually reading anything though.
Can someone who has a working phone try this out? App is free.
Is it worth putting it back in rice even though its dry even on thorough dissemble?
Any idea how to get legit data from the sensor to verify if its shorted out etc?
Would a replacement battery with out the sensor resolve this issue?
Anyone have pictures of where water damage indicators are?
I searched thoroughly and found no answers besides taking it to a service center. Since I'm in America, and this is an international phone, I don't believe the manufacturer will honor the warranty even if the phone shows negative for water damage. My service is ATT, but I bought the phone at expansys( i think).
best at this point is to check your insurance, if its covered. In some countries I read this is covered as it was accidental.
I would recommend goong to samsung and let them check it, with the true story ofc. Now if they find whats wrong, they might be lenient, or not. Anyhow then you know whats broke, and you can decide to fix it for yourself or have it fixed. At this point it sounds like corrosion on one of the boards, or shorts somewhere.

Hi
My touchpad and charger were in a backpack and it got water damaged from from a bottle of water, the lid wasn't closed tight. Most of the water got soaked in the charger but the charger still works but the touchpad doesn't turn on now. It showed the battery low sign at first but now it doesn't turn on. Maybe some water got in the charge connection or even deeper?
I tired a few chargers but it doesn't seem to charge. What should I do?
Is it easy to take apart and put it togther again?
You coud try finding a large enough airtight container, fill it with rice (uncooked lol) put the TP into the rice/container and leave in a warm environment like an airing cupboard for a few days. This method has worked for me in the past with my phone. So could be worth a shot. The rice is great for drawing out any moisture...
Ive never opened my touchpad so cant comment on how difficult a process it is. Here is a walkthru instructional (with video) which may help out in deciding if you are up to the task or not. http://m.techrepublic.com/blog/itdo...-like-a-pc-and-straightforward-to-repair/2707
Put it a big container with rice yesterday. I'll check tomorrow and see how it goes
Got it out today, pc recognised it when I plugged it in. Did WebOS Doctor restore and now it boots but the screen if faint and continuously flickering
Back to the rice for longer period i think. My phone was in the rice for 2-3 weeks before it was able to power up. Is the touchscreen responding to touch? If it is, thats a good sign. I would imagine the innards are still damp. If so then perhaps sticking it back in the rice container will continue to draw out any excess moisture. It could take a while though.

wow 2-3 weeks? Is it ok to take out and test and stick it back in? And yes touch seems to be working perfectly.
On a side note: I couldn't sign because I cant remember my details so I went on a PC to retrieve but cant find the link to go to initially

Yes. I tested my phone daily on the 1st week and got nothing, no power at all. If i recall i left it a full week after this as i was away from home and when i tested again the phone attempted to boot several times but always switched itself back off.
The screen at that stage was showing patches of condensation (when powered on breifly) left it alone in the ziplock/rice for a few days more (before testing again) after which it booted fine albeit still showing areas of slight moisture/condensation which seemed to dissapear with a few weeks of normal use. Remember to keep it in a warm area of the house as i am sure this helps the transfer of moisture to rice...Think Osmosis
This was around 2.5 years ago and although i no longer have the phone it still works a treat. It now resides in my mums handbag Will have to remind her that Bags, Phones and Water dont like to share the same space. As you have discovered
Good Luck.

I took it out yesterday and screen was faint and suddenly it gave full brightness. I stuck it back for good measure. It has to be fully submerged right?

Yes i would say keep it submerged but not packed tightly and just let it do its thing. "Good Measure" is good practice in my book

I tried seeing if its fine yesterday, took it out booted it and full brightness then screen went black. Thought it was battery but then I can hear the tone when I press the volume button. Hoping another few more days will solve it
Well after checking after 2 weeks, the touchpad turns on but the screen doesnt. I can hear the sound when pressing the volume button and the screen capture sound. I think its time for it to be binned?

You could always sell it for parts! hint hint
I've recently been experiencing some charging issues with the handset taking forever to charge, the latest charge was taking well over 15 minutes increase 1%. I tried various chargers, including a brand new original one (the one in the box).
Well, last night I put the phone on charge with the handset turned off around 2am, woke up around midday today and the handset was showing the green LED, so it was almost, or fully, charged. Went downstairs to have a cup of coffee and came back ten minutes later to find the LED off. Tried turning the phone on and nothing happened. Tried the reset combination and the red button under the SIM flap, nothing, tried connecting to SEUS, nothing. Tried connecting to Flashtool, nothing. I left the phone on charge for another hour and tried the same things again, nothing.
No lights, no vibrations, no screen activity. The phone isn't even getting warm like it normally does on charge (confirmed that with another charger)
My girlfriend said that whilst I was downstairs she did take it off charge and put it back on charge straight away when it wouldn't wake up BUT she wasn't sure if she put the charger back on the right way (the magnetic one) however the pins don't actually touch if the plug is the wrong way round as the pin towards the bottom of the phone is offset slightly so I don't believe it has shorted.
So great, my almost new Z1 is now a paperweight. Sony won't touch the handset as the back glass has a small crack in so they just spout off about water damage. The phone has never been near water, let alone in it.
C6903 on 757 firmware, bootloader relocked and non rooted. No nasty apps installed and basically running stock,
Anyone have any ideas? I'm resurrecting my old BB for the time being.
I bet its been shorted
Leave it on mains charger for 24 hours

That's what I'm thinking. The design of the dosk pins should prevent that, but apparently it doesn't!
As probably there is stripes to check if water was inside I will exclude that. Also the magnetic connector have his way to plug so is close to impossible to revert it, hardly if you try maybe it will, but I did many time and nothing happened. At last I think you girlfriend mess up with you phone and now she now don't remember because she knows you will be furious...LOL...
BTW, I will press Sony to take look at it. They don't have to replace the cracked glass, they have to check where is the problem.

As you say, none of the water indicators (if I'm actually looking in the right place) are a different colour to normal. The dock pin is offset to one side slightly, it can be seen if you look closely so you are right, it really shouldn't have damaged the handset.
She isn't even sure if she did plug it back in! She was half asleep so I don't know lol
Sony will be getting some nasty words in a letter if they fail to do anything. I don't care about the glass, it doesn't bother me, as long as the phone works,
hey guys so my phone was dropped into a water pool "xperia z1"
tho it's supposed to be waterproof but some how water managed to get inside the phone ._.
anyways i've been putting it in rice for almost 2 days trying to turn it on from time to time but it wasn't turning on ._.
i tried putting it on charger tonight and the red charging light appeared but nothing appeared on the screen
i was afraid that something will go wrong if i tried to turn it on so i unplugged it fast and put it bk to rice
what do you think i should do?
thanks in advance
I experianced the same, but in the end had to get my screen nd power cord replaced as abnormal functionality of power cord was cycling my phone on off
Leave it in the rice for another day or two. Rice can bring dead phones back, trust me :3
My advice, send it to Sony for official repair.
They will fix it!
open the back and dry it completely even with a hair dryer on warm setting not hot and test it - if working ok then buy the rear seal gasket (ebay) and put the back back on, keep it away from water, I have open a few of these for screen repairs and taking the back off is easy
So last time I used my phone in the water camera started acting erratic, I decided to put phone away. Before going in the water flaps were closed well and flush. I also did pressure sensor test before and it seemed ok. Few hours later I find it hot and with empty battery.
I saw some humidity inside of usb port flap so I put in in bag of rice and let dry overnight. Now, it turns on and seems to work (except that camera doesn't open anymore) but it gets hot while charging and doesn't really charge (just few % in 30min). If I remove charger it turns off in few minutes so pretty much unusable.
I checked humidity markers - sim card one is white, usb side one also pretty much white, maybe if looking carefully you'll see hint of pink.
Still have warranty. Also I'm abroad halfway around the world and won't be back home before June (will still be under warranty at that time).
So my question - what's likely damaged? If humidity markers are white can warranty repair shop still refuse repairs saying it's water damaged?
I'm trying to decide - to take it to repair here and pay for cleaning and new battery and maybe something else to fix charging and also lose warranty or wait until I get home and take it to warranty repair and hope that they fix or replace it for free.
