XT1045 Return to Stock - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
Sorry if this is in the wrong thread, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the Moto G part of the forum LOL. Anyway, I have the XT1045 unlocked (no carrier branding). I flashed a Lollipop ROM, but want to go back to stock kitkat (or as close as I can get). I'm having a hard time finding anything. Suggestions?
Thanks.

XT1045 is the LTE Version of the first generation Moto G. Please ask at http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g. I'm sure you can get better help and info over there. Moto G (2014) forum is only for XT106x.

Okay but I checked with a mod who said it was in the right place lol. Makes sense though..

Is it possible to root my phone?

Please excuse if this has been beaten to death. I've spent the last hour reading and reading an I've just gotten confused. I was heavily into the Android world for quite a while but have been out of it for a couple years. I bought my son a Droid Mini which from what I understand is pretty much the same thing as a Moto X. In the settings menu it says Android Version 4.4 Kernal Version 3.4.42-gfae57e0. I just need to root it. I'm not concerned about flashing ROMs, just need root for an app that requires it. Is it possible or do I need to get a different phone? I must have a root. Again please excuse the noob question but I've gotten a headache trying to make heads or tales of it.

No it is not possible to root 4.4 however you have an option there is a guy in China selling bootlloader unlock codes I bought mine and unlocked there are several threads on this site so check it out. The other option is to return the phone and get one you can root or a dev model.

I guess I'll go that route then. I bought my second hand so returning isn't an option. Can you link me to a thread?
I feel so lost. My last Android two Androids were an EVO and a Droid OG, I feel so lost now. Had a ton of ROMs on those but wow things have changed.

What? 4.4 and lower can be rooted, 4.4.2 cannot.

Under Android version it says 4.4. But is also says no software updates are available.... Kernal version says 3.4.42 that makes a difference. Guess the question is do I have 4.4 or 4.4.2. If .2 is the latest it should show under updates correct? Or maybe not since it's a Mini and not an X?

Don't give this guy false hope without reading the OP. He does not have a moto x, He has a droid mini. The droid line cannot be downgraded from 4.4 to 4.2.2, thus his only option is to use the shady Chinese unlockers.

You should get your rooting advice from this area of the forums, it will more closly resemble the options you have available to your device
http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-ultra
VZW droid mini ,ultra, and maxx are all still on 4.4. They cannot be downgraded due to verizon locking the bootloader. You will get confused answers from the moto x owners, as they could downgrade from 4.4 to 4.2.2 and then keep root using some trickery.
While it is true that this trickery would work to on your droid mini if you hadnt yet updated to 4.4, there is no way to revert to 4.2.2 on your device. your best option getting an unlock code from a 3rd party (this voids your warranty)
consider if it is worth it to you
Good luck,
You can't root 4.4 the droid line doesn't have 4.4.2 yet so your on 4.4.
As for the guys being shady selling the code that is absolutely false. Many have bought the code they are very accommodating and helpful. As a matter of fact a few were not able to get the code for what ever reason and were refunded the money. As far as I'm concerned if you want root unlock the boot loader it ain't coming anytime soon.
And further questions should be asked in the ultra section the ultra maxx and mini are the same. The moto x is 99.9% the same but as you can see there are a few differences like they can downgrade 4.4.
As a matter of fact I'm typing this on my maxx running 4.4.2 ported from a moto x. That is what you can do with an unlocked boot loader.
It is possible! I am now the owner of a fully rooted Droid Mini XT1030 running stock 4.4. It took buying a code from the Chinese tab site and a whole lot of help from NWKENT. He should be nominated for some kind of an award. He took the time on a Sunday morning to talk me through it on the phone. He's a saint in my book.

[Q] Moto G (2014) EXT

Hi,
I got the Consumer Cellular version of the Moto G even though I use don't use that carrier (I unlocked it). I am wondering how much different it is from getting the one from the company-from moto's website? Also, will I get the OTAs on time, because I am still on 4.4.4. My phone is XT1064 and everyone keeps saying that the android 5.0 is out for XT1064 and XT1063 but when I checked, it said I was at the latest firmware. Sorry if these questions are dumb!

Motorola is releasing the update in batches, which mean your batch didn't get the update yet. If they let all the Moto G 2nd gen users get the update at the same time, chances are that there servers will crash.
Which is probably why they are releasing the update in batches.
BTW don't worry about Android L too much. Your Moto G won't start performing like Moto X when you get the update.
K, thanks
Wifi hotspot is disabled in Consumer Cellular branded Moto G and there is a consumer cellular app installed.
This is all the difference between it and a retail unlocked motto g. It you read through the threads, you can flash the retail rom, and even lollipop on it.

[Q] Possible to downgrade XT1072 to KitKat?

Hi,
The Bluetooth A2DP stuttering bug on Lollipop is unacceptable, and I have heard that KitKat users did not have the same problem.
Is there a compatible KitKat 4.4.4 factory image that I can use to downgrade my XT1072?
I believe the XT1072 (Moto G 2nd Generation with 4G LTE) has never been factory loaded with KitKat Android. Is there another Moto G model that has been, whose KitKat image is compatible with an XT1072?
Cheers,
Sunkai.
This is in the wrong forum and I see that you also have the same thread going in the correct forum Hopefully a mod will see this and lock it.
You are right. My understanding of the situation is better now, and I realise that there probably is not a KitKat or CM11 image that I can use with a Thea device.
I posted in this forum, as I thought there may be a different set of eyes on it than the Moto G 2015 forum, and that there may have been a Titan image that was known to be compatible.
Thank you for taking a look. I am happy for this thread to be locked or removed.

Newbie here, want 5.1.1 on my Verizon moto X

Hey everyone, I'm sorry if this sounds stupid, but I'm very new to the whole rom-switching and phone-rooting world.
I have a Verizon Moto X (I believe it's XT1060) with stock everything. I am absolutely sick of waiting for Verizon to release the update to 5.1.1. So, I want to do it myself, but I still want it to be Motorola's version of Android. Can someone please give me a step by step guide on how to do so? Thanks!
Are you in 4.4.4? If so, your are SOL.

Motorola and Verizon have stated that they will not update the XT1096 to MM or 6.x so there is no "official" Marshmallow firmware from Motorola for this phone.
You can find an 99% stock MM ROM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/development/rom-xt1096-verizon-flashable-stock-rom-t3327345. Please read the full thread and ask questions there about this ROM. Some people - including me - are using it as their daily driver with little to no issues. This ROM has all the Motorola apps (Voice, Display, etc.) working as expected from a stock ROM.
Another option CM13. Read this thread :http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/orig-development/rom-official-cm-13-0-nightly-releases-t3256580/post65781867#post65781867. CM13 works on the XT1096 and other CM13-based ROMs should work but you will need to verify by reading their threads. Please be sure to read the full thread and ask questions there about CM13 or in the other threads related to other ROMs.
This is assuming that you are on the Verizon network and want to keep CDMA functionality. If you are using this phone on a GSM network and do not care to keep the CDMA access then you might want to look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/general/guide-xt1097-to-xt1095-nextel-t2972693
All of the options above require that you have an unlocked bootloader. If your bootloader is locked please go here to learn about unlocking it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/general/motorola-unlocking-verizon-moto-x-2014-t3291104
Please read and learn as much as you can. Most - if not all - of your questions will be answered by reading through the threads listed.
XT1085
Hello everyone,
I'm currently using the moto X 2nd generation bought in china (XT1085) running android 5.0.2.
I would like to get rid of the retcn version of the system because I don't speak chinese for a retEU or retUS and install android 6 MM. Is it possible?
My phone is rooted and TWRP recovery installed
I tried to install this version : Version 6, because one guy wrote on the topic that it worked on TX1085 but it failed for me, and my phone stayed on the Motorola launching screen.
So now I'm back with the factory setup and would like to now how to install android 6.0?
Thanks
