Is it possible to S-OFF HBOOT 1.61? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently installed the HTC lollipop OTA update which has upgraded my device to version 7.19.401.2 with a HBOOT of 1.61.
Is there a method to S-OFF this version, or does the version not matter?

I think you might want to change the thread's title to "[Q] Is it possible to S-OFF HBOOT 1.61?" . Seems like you'll get more answers that way.

I think sunshine will work on 1.61 but you'll need to flash a kitkat rom (4.4.3-) since support for lollipop and 4.4.4 is supposed to come with the 3.0 release of sunshine. Better to ask them directly on their IRC channel.

Are you sure ? I tried to get s-off when I were on 1.57 hboot, I installed KK and my touch was not responding due to the incompatibllity of LP firmware with KK rom...

sunshine now support lollipop, don't presume the info in a one month old post is still correct. When I posted this, sunshine was't even on 3.x.x version now its on 3.0.12 and supports lollipop from 3.0.3:
Version 3.0.3
Fixed two "Unexpected Errors"
Fixed one SuperSu Hang
Fixed HTC CDMA TempRoot Crash
Fix paypal crash
Added Mini2/Remix (s400) support
Now supporting all 4.4.4 HTC
Now supporting all rootable 5.0.x HTC

Download SunShine for Motorola and HTC - 3.0.12
SunShine is our bootloader unlock/s-off tool for Motorola and HTC phones. We currently support most HTC phones, and Moto X (2013), MotoG (2013) and Droid Maxx/Mini/Ultra on Android 4.4.3 and lower. All modern HTC devices (m7 m8 e8 Mini2 remix dna etc) devices are supported up to 5.0.1, as long as they are rootable. SunShine can work without pre-rooting all 4.4.3 and below devices, and some 4.4.4 devices. 5.0.x uses will have to root with HTCDev.com. Verizon 5.0.x users will have to wait until we update.

yes see the s-off thread in the verizon section. You'll need to achieve temp root so you can use Sunshine to s-off.

Thank you. I can't pay $25 for it though, it is a "temporary phone" for me.
Sunshine isn't free, is it? Maybe I was seeing a scam version if it is.

If I intended to keep this phone for more than a month or two, I would pay. :good:
This is my first HTC phone since my DInc2, and all this S-OFF talk is gone from my memory
Will the root/custom recovery method listed here allow me to flash custom ROMs and mods without achieving S-OFF?
Nevermind. I got my answer

Where do I find temp root how-to? I tried searching but get WAY too many results.
With temp root, I could debloat couldn't I?

Maybe, but only until you reboot if it worked at all, then you'd have to debloat again each time you reboot or whenever the battery runs out of juice.
Really your best bet, is keep it stock or use Sunshine and just get it S-off.
But me personally, trying to only go 1/4 of the way is more hassle then benefit.
If you could gain temp-root and at least unlock the bootloader for free on HtcDev, then I'd say yeah, go for it.
But you are stuck with a locked bootloader and S-on without Sunshine, no point really, IMHO.

So, even if I delete the apk or use Titanium to uninstall, bloat returns after reboot?!
What is this witchcraft?

Only other possible way would be a Java card which is much more expensive than$25. If u want S-off, gonna have to bite the bullet for sunshine.

I know this reply is very late, but the short answer is "NO!"
I use Titanium myself on a rooted S-ON M7, and I just froze all the bloatware. Works a charm.

You can easily remove the bloatware using a custom recovery file explorer like TWRP's embedded explorer or Aroma file manager. If you want to debloat when the phone is booted in the ROM, it must be done with a custom kernel installed on the phone or all changes will be reverted after a reboot. /system is write protected by the stock kernel hence why you either need a custom one or to do it in recovery since the kernel isn't booted at this point (custom recoveries use their own kernel).

Hi, is there still no free way to s-off HBOOT 1.61 on HTC One M7?
I searched google and everything that came up is like year old and saying to use Sunshine for $25. Can any one of you have any info on this topic? Or is this phone too old to be bothered?

S-OFF Situation with last Firmware & H-BOOT 1.57

Hey guys,
i'm sending my One to htc at the moment and i think i'll get it back in a couple of days with new camera module and a firmware update .
At the moment my HBOOT is 1.4x, the phone was S-OFF via revone and i reversed it back to stock yesterday.
Are there any safe possiblities to S-OFF a 1.57 HBOOT device WITHOUT using htcdev?
From what i've read recently
- Revone isn't supported with HBOOT 1.57
- Firewater can maybe S-OFF but needs HTCDEV unlock and maybe the Bootloader is TAMPERED after that
- Sunshine costs 25 USD !?
So is the conclusion correct that an unlock via htcdev is absolutely necessary to S-OFF atm?
Is it also correct that i can't get rid of the TAMPERED flag when Firewater fails?
Thanks
Once S-Off you can revert the BL back to locked and remove the tampered flag anyway.
That's right but from what i heard some devices can't be S-OFFed with Firewater. Then the device is TAMPERED and you can't get rid of that because S-OFF doesn't work!?

you cant get rid of the tampered flag full stop without s-off
sunshine does not require the bootloader to be unlocked, it does everything for you but like you said costs $25 however, it is a one off payment, after that you don't need to pay again to s-off the same device again.
all other s-off tools require the bootloader to be unlocked via HTC Dev.
if you are on HBOOT 1.56 or 1.57 and firewater fails then sunshine is the only way.

Okay, thank you very much for that!
Sorry for the question but can i install TWRP and flash ROMs via Recovery when just htcdev unlocked and S-ON? On the One X it was necessary to flash the boot.img from a pc. On the One this isn't necessary right?

yes you can flash custom rom's whilst s-on as long as the bootloader is unlocked and also correct, no need to flash the boot.img separately.
Does someone know what devices will fail with firewater? Is it a change in the hardware maybe? My One is from May 2013 so i hope it may work.
There has to be a change between the devices with 1.57 that fail and the devices that work!?

if you sent your phone back to HTC to get the camera repaired, they will probably replace the motherboard, if they do then firewater probably wont work, all you can do is try.
Okay, i'll wait and report
Dunno if it's different but when I s-offed and unlocked and rooted my HTC one max I used firewater and used temp root method which in turn s-offed and unlocked bootloader which can be done on our highest hboot. I don't no if it's different for you guys but it might not be such a major problem but when I sent my HTC one m7 back for repair when I had it I reverted back to stock and left s-off present they said nothing about it.

HTC One HBOOT 1.57 S-OFF

Hello,
I recently bought an HTC One (M7), and I wanted to convert it to a Google Edition.
So I searched on a few forums for instructions and they said that I had to unlock the bootloader first AND to root my device.
I did all of this, but now I don't know which method I can try to S-OFF my device.
My rom is currently CM11 Android 4.4.2 and HBOOT 1.5.7 Tampered, Unlocked.
I heard about Sunshine already. And I think it's worth the money but I think it's not gonna work because I don't have money on my paypal, and I would like to try to do it myself. I just don't know how. I tried some methods but I think I did it wrong.
Can someone help me out? I would really appreciate your help.

[Q] Problems with SunShine: what stock kernel to flash?

Hello,
I wanted to S-OFF my HTC One M7 and it looks like my last hope is use SunShine in the end.
Since I receive the following message when SunShine runs on my phone, I would like to receive some help to figure out what is the stock kernel I have to flash in order to run SunShine.
At the moment I use Elemental X kernel, as shown in the signature below, but I have not been able to find a kernel to meet the requirements. By the way, I have a rooted and unlocked phone, and I wouldn't like to come back to stock if possible.
Thanks

Hi!
Thanks a lot for your hint!
And what about doing as explained here instead? I mean where it says about "Step-by-step procedure before attempting to S-OFF (with the universal Rumrunner version for international variants)".
It doen't say anything about the hboot version. That should work I guess, without wiping anything by the way.

nope, you cant back flash your HBOOT at all unless you are already s-off, I see in your signature your on 1.57, sunshine is the only way to s-off your device, really the only way - (people still ask after saying this if there is another way), you also need as close to stock as possible to use sunshine.
I succeeded using Sunshine in the end, flashing a stock kernel (boot.img) extacted by a stock ROM.

The only option is Sunshine which is $25.00.
None of the free methods work on the M8 anymore, due to HTC patching the exploit.

That's bad..... Not sure if I would spend $25 on that..... I am looking at the tutorials on how to unlock and root the phone. Does that mean, I can still flash custmoized ROMs through CMW or TWRP? If yes, then what functions are restricted with S-ON (besides downgrading)?

S-OFF is not required to flash roms...however most of the newer roms require your firmware to be the latest, meaning everytime there is an HTC update you would need to update your firmware in order for the rom to work correctly.
Being s-off makes it alot easier to update firmware.
