I ran the Rumrunner for S-Off of HTC One M7 International(Indian) version. I am getting the message about insecure kernel. So I searched some insecure kernel and I found out about elementalx kernel. But the kernel had support for only sense based roms and GPE roms. So I flashed that kernel and the GPE lollipop ROM. But then when I connected the device for debugging through ADB I got the message in CMD that the device is offline.( When I typed adb devices). So I couldnt run the rumrunner because of that. So I want to ask if this is a problem of the ROM or there is a problem of the connection because I ran the rumrunner before with the CM12/11(I diidn't know it woudn't work then) and I used to get to the point where all the ADB connections worked fine. I just can't get the device online. I tried everything, kill server start server and what else....Nothing happened. Please help me out here bcz I have been trying this for over a month and failed. I bootloader unlocked and rooted so easily and this s-off is getting my brains off.. So finally plz suggest a combination of roms and kernels which support rumrunner or tell what the problem is with the adb device offline problem.. Thanks in advance..

rumrunner only works on hboot 1.54 and lower, if your hboot 1.56 or greater you have to use Sunshine s-off ...it's $25
So there is only 1 way to s off (sunshine)? My hboot version is 1.57 No free options?

Nope, they destroyed many expensive phones creating sunshine in order to give us s-off, and at $500 + per phone, a $25 charge is nothing, but worth $1,000,000

SunChine S-Off
It is ironic, to change the firmware should I be S-Off, and to be S-Off must change the firmware.

wrong, you can flash the same firmware that you are already on or the next step up only as long as its signed firmware.
and you don't need s-off to flash the kernel part of the firmware.

Hi,
You mean android revolution HD 36 ?
Where can I find it ?
I see only 31.6 and 71 on this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183023
I was trying to download that 31.6(Seanie maybe misspelled) and I couldn't download it because there were no mirrors :/
Any Luck?

Is that a guaranteed s-off? I wouldn't want to waste 25$
It isn't wasted. It does compatibility checks before it does anything. Most important thing is to have stock kernel for it to work

Try flashing a newer firmware?
[Guide] HTC ONE Hboot 1.57 Root S-Off Change CID Downgrade Hboot & OS
Search the above phrase on google. The first result should be from the site forums(dot)gsmhosting(com) with the title same as search.
I am a new user so I can't post external links.
I used that guide to achieve S-Off on my HTC One M7 UL with Hboot v. 1.57.
I had to run the final firewater commands several times before firewater launched finally. Enough tries to make me memorize those commands so I stopped copying and pasting them and instead actually typing them. But it worked for me.
I hope it helps.

Ok so I after having a bunch of issues with htcdev site I finally unlocked my bootloader using the kingo program, then I flashed twrp 2633 and rooted although I forgot to erase cache after flashing twrp. At first it didn't boot in recovery, just booted up normally but it worked the second time, after rooting root checker said I didn't have proper root but after rebooting again it says it is rooted. Superuser said I need to update binaries wasn't sure how but I read somewhere to install superSU from playstore. Anyways that's not really my issue, just thought I'd let u know it was goin. When I try running revone, after I run ./revone.bin -P I'm getting revone fail error -6. Coundnt find a strait answer so thought I'd check here. Thanks all and let me know if u need any other info

I'm not sure why you want to S-off. You have now unlocked, changed recovery, and rooted. You can simply download viper one rom and flash it from recovery. You dont need to flash any boot.img for m7. I hope that helps. If you still want to S-off use rumrunner. revone is not supported for bootloader that comes with 4.1.2. Do note that you cannot s-on again once you s-off the device.

I was getting s-off because I was told to get s-off so I could flash the 3.17 ruu to update my hboot/ touchscreen drivers and radio before flashing viper, which I figured so viper would run smoother. Well after failing with revone, rumrunner, and firewater I went ahead and flashed viper, and everything was fine. I can't help be bugged by the fact that you told me to get s-off and flash that ruu to get the updated radio and touchscreen drivers, I read that I need a 4.2 Rom to get revone to work so I am gonna give it another try. I tried running firewater with ARHD and it said that it had an anti-firewater patch. So I am just curious as to what the importance of having the updated hboot, radio, and touchscreen drivers. I just feel like I should still get it done since u told me not to skip that step, not to mention later on down the line when I get more familiar with all of this dev and modding stuff I might want to do other things that require a-off. Thanks for all your help and info . Before I continue with it I made a backup of viper with the setting and themes I've set up, after I get s-off and flash the ruu, should I 're-flash the Rom or can I restore my backup with out changing any of the updated software, I didn't think the Rom would have anything to do with it but I just wanna make sure. Thanks

I tried to s-off with revone by flashing a 4.2.2 viper Rom but I lost all signal and service, so I restored my backup. Also I was wondering since I'm running the 3.17 ruu to update radio and stuff , should I use the 4.18 ruu since its newer? Thanks again for all the help.

If youre trying to s-off with sunshine, you need a completely stock rom.i had a near stock rom & because the ramdisk was debuggable in boot.img, sunshine failed.i went back to 4.3 stock that i had a nandroid backup for.i would suggest using an RUU to get back to stock,if youre s on it shouldnt matter and i can confirm that the hboot for 4.3(1.57.xxxx) is compatabile with sunshine, because thats the hboot i had.
EDIT:my bad,i just found out you cannot use an RUU with an s-on device.im gunna see if i can find a zip without needing the use of an RUU.

Hello,
I wanted to S-OFF my HTC One M7 and it looks like my last hope is use SunShine in the end.
Since I receive the following message when SunShine runs on my phone, I would like to receive some help to figure out what is the stock kernel I have to flash in order to run SunShine.
At the moment I use Elemental X kernel, as shown in the signature below, but I have not been able to find a kernel to meet the requirements. By the way, I have a rooted and unlocked phone, and I wouldn't like to come back to stock if possible.
Thanks

Hi!
Thanks a lot for your hint!
And what about doing as explained here instead? I mean where it says about "Step-by-step procedure before attempting to S-OFF (with the universal Rumrunner version for international variants)".
It doen't say anything about the hboot version. That should work I guess, without wiping anything by the way.

nope, you cant back flash your HBOOT at all unless you are already s-off, I see in your signature your on 1.57, sunshine is the only way to s-off your device, really the only way - (people still ask after saying this if there is another way), you also need as close to stock as possible to use sunshine.
I succeeded using Sunshine in the end, flashing a stock kernel (boot.img) extacted by a stock ROM.
Hello guys
Is it worth to s-off or I can install custom recovery and rom with no problem.
What are the benefits of s-off
S-off is good, as long as you can do it without issues. I broke my USB port while trying to s-off. I can't plug my phone into pc, it goes to car mode, and refuses to charge at all. Many people have faced this issue, and this is a software + hardware issue. Just warning you, tho im running ARHD with my own mods on it for about 2 years all without s-off.
Cheers ^_^

As far as I know sunshine is the only way to get s-off on that hboot so you'll need to pay $25. On the matter if it's worth buying that's up to you. Personally s-off allows you to flash ROMs easily since you don't have to worry about firmware and I know some ROMs require s-off. Always research what could go wrong just to make sure you can s-off in the safest way.

If you don't know what are the benefits of having S-OFF then you probably don't need it. Unlocking the bootloader remove the signature check and disable security from the /system, /boot, /recovery and /radio partitions so you can flash custom software like roms, kernel, recovery and radios. S-OFF remove the signature check and security on the remaining partitions like /hboot, /pg1fs, /pg2fs and /mfg which make it possible to flash flash unsigned firmware like a custom hboot for example. This also make possible to downgrade or change your firmware version. With access to the mfg partition you can change your MID number and with the pgfs partitions you can remove the ***tampered***, ***re-locked*** and ***security warning*** flags. S-OFF also enables some blocked "fastboot oem" commands like "fastboot oem writecid" which make it possible to change your CID number. Well a lots of useful things but nothing required to flash a custom recovery and rom.

Achieving S-OFF itself can't broke your USB port, its most likely an hardware problem only or you did something wrong once s-off.

Personally s-off allows you to flash ROMs easily since you don't have to worry about firmware

Since he is already running hboot 1.61 he already have one of the latest 7.xx.xxx.x firmware version which is all he need to run all the recent roms. So even if he keep is phone S-ON, firmware isn't something to worry about.
and I know some ROMs require s-off

Custom roms requires an unlocked bootloader only, not S-OFF. :good:

Well most of them but Skydragon ROM for htc one m7 says it needs s-off and there are some kernels which require s-off as well. I've only seen one, don't remember the name of it.

All of them can be flashed with S-ON . There isn't anything justifying the need to have S-OFF when flashing a custom rom or kernel.

Yeah I know its in the OP but you don't need s-off to flash and use it. There are a lot of members reporting successfully flashing this rom on a S-ON phone, even in the Skydragon thread.

I never seen any kernel requiring S-OFF and that wouldn't make any sense since the kernel is written on /boot partition which is not a secured partition once the bootloader is unlocked.

Are you fairly knowledgeable about *old* HTC devices as well? (obviously you are very knowledgeable about current ones). Old meaning, gingerbread and older. I personally am not, but I'm wondering if the functions of S-on vs S-off have changed over the years. Because, if you run a basic google search for S-on vs S-off, the *vast majority* of the information you will find is false information-- or at least it is false now, but I do not know if it was always untrue. Countless websites that say "In order to root, you must be S-off." "In order to flash ROMs, you must have S-off." Stuff like that. I know the internet is full of false information, but it seems to me the amount of false information regarding S-off is disproportionate.. I find it odd.
That said...it's not completely necessary, but it *is* nice being able to remove the Tampered flag, and to have the red text be gone, and to be able to lock and unlock my bootloader and have it say 'locked" instead of "relocked." Is it even still the case that S-off allows you to flash the /system partition? I am S-off, and I have never been able to successfully flash /system. It always returns a permission denied error of some kind. Maybe it works with KitKat and below, and from Lollipop on you need an Eng bootloader to flash /system through fastboot?
I'm kinda curious how the one poster broke his usb port trying to S-off.... did it involve that one old S-off method that involved stripped wires...I think it was called the wire method.. I like the term "hot wiring"

Me neither, my first HTC device was in 2012, the One X (Tegra variant)

Probably, there a lot of old guides (back in the nexus one days) saying that you need S-OFF in order to ROOT which is false when speaking about the One M7 but not so false when speaking about the Verizon One M7 (this one requires s-off since bootloader unlock is not available from htcdev.com)

I think its a combination of false informations and outdated informations. For example, some ppl are still saying that you must flash the kernel (boot.img) using fastboot after flashing a custom rom on a S-ON phone. This was true for older HTC devices, but not needed on the M7 (and i guess newer devices) since the boot partition isn't secured and can now be flashed from custom recovery. There are some ppl confusing ROOT and Unlocked bootloader (they think unlocking the bootloader = rooting the phone which are 2 totally different things). A lor of outdated/false(or applying to a specific device only) information online. Better to look for the most recent information available for the correct device. :good:

Yep, exactly what I was saying above, its very useful to have s-off. But is it needed to flash a custom recovery and rom (question asked at post #1)? Absolutely not.
Is it even still the case that S-off allows you to flash the /system partition?

You don't need s-off to flash the system partition, only an unlocked bootloader but it can only be done from custom recovery, not from fastboot.
If you absolutely want to flash /system from fastboot then I suppose you can make a custom ruu.zip with the system image only and flash it in RUU mode. In this case you will need S-OFF since its required to flash an unsigned ruu.zip.

Me too but imo its a coincidence only. The methods used to achieve S-OFF doesn't requires any hardware modification. You only have to use the appropriate exploit (software) for your bootloader version and the only one requiring your phone to be connected with a usb cable is rumrunner. The other exploits like Revone or Sunshine for example are running directly from your phone, without any computer. I'm 99.99% sure achieving s-off itself can't cause hardware damage since its done using software as opposed to the hot wiring method you described. Anyway what I'm saying in this thread might not apply for other HTC devices but I'm pretty sure everything I'm saying is 100% correct for the M7.
Yes. Plain and simple.
