Invalid Boot Image Header after Nandroid Restore - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone, I was interested by the recent lollipop xposed launch so i first made a nandroid backup before i flashed my Pure Edition Moto X 2nd Gen into xposed. After that i decided i didn't like it so I restored the nandroid and now every time i try to boot back into system/qcom it says Invalid boot image header and Fastboot Reaseon: Flall through from normal boot mode. Only recovery (twrp) works. Please Help!!!! Thanks in advance! I am new so please be nice!

Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum for more relevant answers.

Trouble Flashing System.IMG
Hello, I messed my phone up and I need to get it back to stock. Tried to flash a system.img for the Pure Edition but I keep getting an error. I use mfastboot to flash, but it says "Invalid Sparse FIle Format at Header magi." Any help would be amazing!
Forgive my ignorance, I'm a new daily driver Android user (used to have iPhones as my primary device, and used Samsungs secondary on the side) and have never flashed on a phone this new
As long as my build number is the same, this should work fine for my phone? I know some of the other flash options have specified the model number of the Moto X in question, and it hasn't matched mine since I'm using the Canadian Moto X (2014, of course).
Sorry for such a silly question! Just exercising care with my new device.
Stuck at boot screen
I know this is my first post under this account (previous "dg4free" is unaccessible due to email change/forgotten password situation), but I'm not new here. I rooted my Moto X the day I got it, and it's been fine up until I experimented with some of the Lollipop apps and things started getting buggy.
I decided I'd just wipe and do a clean install from the post this is attached to and have a stock clean rooted rom going forward. Well I followed all the steps, used mfastboot from the link provided, everything worked fine. Rebooted the phone and it's stuck at the initial screen with the blue motorola logo and the "powered by android" tag. It doesn't start the bootanimation nor does it ever move forward from this screen. Attached to my mac, I have seen the android file transfer app pop up like it detected the file system but then gives an error stating to reconnect or reboot device, none of which does anything.
Any ideas? Thanks in advanced.
EDIT: I was able to boot into TWRP and wipe all the partitions and fix the file system. I then backed out and reflashed the files boot, recovery, and then system and it booted.

glad you got things sorted out. just in case i'm in the same situation, what did you do to "fix" the file system? and after fixing the file system, did you use mfastboot to flash recovery, system and boot? thanks in advance for the details...
I booted (did not flash) into TWRP and when you go to the custom wipe screen there's a "repair file system" I ran that seemed to have done the trick.
Yes I used mfastboot. I don't know if it makes a difference but i changed the original fastboot to fastboot.bak to make sure it wasn't interferring with the mfastboot flashing process. Although the order doesn't matter, I did flash in the order I wrote above just for reference.
HELP! I successfully flashed boot and recovery in fastboot, but now mfastboot won't work.
I get this error message in mfastbnoot when I try to flash the system.img (see attached) and on phone it says getvar: max-spares size.

Hi so do you need an unlocked bootlader to flash this?
Moto X First Gen??
Hi,
Can I use this to upgrade my moto x first gen piece?
Thanks,
Laks.
Just flashed system.img and boot.img via mfastboot. Went from 22.11.6 to 22.21.11 without any problems.
On Windows 7 with mfastboot provided in OP:
mfastboot flash boot boot.img
mfastboot flash system system.img
Thank you!
If I have a XT1095 rooted on Lollipop, I will get updates? or a I need to reflash the stock boot.img? flash of the .img is the same as Nexus phone?

Hi, sorry but what do you mean about time and date? It changes time and date on cellphone? Thanks
Yup. Every time i go into twrp date is wrong. Usually 6 days before and time wrong too.
When booting phone i get whatsapp time and date error: no trouble, when radio signal is up android is synchronizing and everything return right. Except twrp.
Have read about a bug
Cant make a backup TWRP
I get the error:
Backup complete. Failed.
unable to create backup folder errno=13
Using either twrp-2.8.6.0-victara or twrp-2.8.5.0-victara
Before trying to use 2.8.6 I could.
Thanks
Revert back to stock recovery on xt1092?
So I flashed TWRP on my xt1092 but I want to revert back to stock recovery. How to do it? My Moto X came with lollipop 5.0 with build no. LXE22.46-19
5.1 Support
Just upgraded to the 5.1 soak test (23.1.28) from a clean 22.46-11 installation and can no longer flash twrp (I tried 2.8.0.3, 2.8.0.5, 2.8.0.6, and crpalmer's unofficial build). They all complain about mismatched partition size, and if the flash is successful the recovery partition must be overwritten immediately by the stock recovery. I'm hoping someone comes up with a workaround or new build soon.

How can I do that? Thanks!
EDIT - I'm an idiot, I didn't boot into recovery straight away after flashing the image, so it was overwritten on boot up.

Guys, fast question. I've flash stock firmware, flash twrp latest version, then cm and start setting up, deleted some apps wipe Cache and dalvik and when I tried to reboot into recovery to flash a kernel it just boot loops into recovery boot image.... Phone is working great, but can't get into recovery.... Any idea? Already tried flashing previous version and same result

I installed this recovery 1 month ago, but now i am trying to boot into recovery but it stucks on TWRP screen, there are no menus like backup, install etc, it just stucks on twrp blue screen. Even i flashed older twrp 2.8.x.x by fastboot mode but same thing happens only twrp blue screen...?
Could someone help me?
P.S: it was working fine 1 month ago when i flashed RR.
I have the exact same issue on my Xt1060. It has flashed several Roms fine, but hangs up on the TWRP blue screen too! I also reflashed 2.8.7.1 with no difference. Any ideas?
I uninstalled twrp and rebooted the phone. I then reinstalled twrp using 2.8.6.0 version. I rebooted and tried opening the recovery. It now works fine. I have since installed the cyanpop nightly and updated happy. Phone works!!!! Not sure why but it does. I will stay with the older version. Thanks.
Guys, I'm having this problem, I'm on 3.0.0.0 and every time I wipe Cache and dalvik/art Cache (I'm on stock marshmallow only tip root and krait kernel) it doesn't wipe anything..... Any idea? Or what do I have to do?

On version 3.0.2-2 I get a corrupt zip file error every time I try to flash. This has happened 5 times since encrypting the phone with two different ZIP files.
Is this due to TWRP not supporting Nougat encryption?
Is this resolved in 3.1.0?

Got stuck in Bootloop after making a TWRP backup.

I am on stock 5.0.2(XT1033).
I installed TWRP Custom recovery and tried to backup my current rom.
The backup completed and when I hit the reboot system button, my device was stuck in Bootloop.
It only started again when I did a factory data reset.

Most likely some kernel issue since Moto G (2015) has different Model Name so Build prop might differ

I m using falcon(2013) XT1033. I wanted to flash a rom. But without backup of my current rom, it would be risky to do so. What should I do now?
First of all you are in the wrong forum, this is for for Moto G 2nd gen (XT1068/69/64/63). Maybe try your luck over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g

[Q] Help installing Cyanogenmod 12 XT1058

Hello everyone, first of all i would like to start by saying im very new to custom roms, rotting etc, so be patient with me please hehe.
Alright, so i tried to install cyanogenmod 12 with the installer, but appearently the moto x xt1058 isn't supported, if this is wrong i would like somebody to correct me please.
So I would like to know if somebody could give me a very detailed explanation on how to install cyanogenmod 12 on the moto x (1st gen), or if you know of a guide or video, i have seen many, but most already seem to involve some type of knowledge aobut the topic, so I just didn't understand.
Anyways thanks for taking the time to read and thanks in advanced
Also sorry if this is on the wrong place I'm also new to xda hehe.
First of all unlock your boot loader Motorola has a guide, google it. Next step download a recovery like TWRP and flash it via fastboot flash recovery <path to recovery>. Then download CM12 for ghost. Do a full wipe in recovery and install CM12. If it goes in a bootloop ie not booting for over 15 minutes or doesn't flash do a full wipe and install CM11 let it boot and then go back into recovery and flash cm12. Hope this helps

How to make a FULL backup before flashing TWRP and Magisk?

I am going to make a complete backup for my Moto X4 before flashing TWRP and Magisk, that can help me to restore my Moto X4 to the stock and get OTA updates easily.
But I know no ideas. Could someone help me?
thank you so much
You don't have to flash twrp, you can boot to an image from fastboot for one time use.
fastboot boot twrp-x.x.x-x-payton.img

This enables you to use twrp to create a backup of an unmodified phone

Thank you for replying
Someone reported booting into TWRP without installing TWRP will break OTA.
Is this real?
If yes, does that mean I can't get the OTA updates if I restore the backup made by booted TWRP?
Thank you so much
