I returned my Nook and got a new one and was amazed at how much better the screen is. Mine had a slight bleed at the bottom I wasn't sure if that was all of them or not.
Anyways aside from the bleed gone, the screen is much more vibrant and clear. Just an fyi if anyone has a weird screen don't settle!
Cool, mine has a dead pixel that appeared only 2 days after I purchased it - I've been debating whether or not it's worth the time to reflash back to stock, etc... etc... and exchange it. I think I will.
My first nook had white splotches on the screen. I took it back to the store and the guy wouldn't exchange it. As soon as I told him I wanted my money back he changed his mind and gave me another one. He was a ****.
Then, after a week, the nook started creaking and squeaking all around the bezel. I called to get it exchanged. They said I had to go into the store. I went into the store. They said I had to do it online or on the phone. I called on the phone and argued with some lady for 30 minutes after which she told me that if I sent my current nook back and they didn't think anything was wrong with it, they'd charge me $250. I hung up and called right back and got a woman who was ok and told me the other lady was an idiot. Thanks guys.
I received my third nook in the mail. The A/C charger jack was broken. I couldn't put the jack in. So i called to get this replaced and argued with some guys in India for an hour and finally got a replacement.
I'm on my 4th nook. Barnes and Noble sucks and I will never buy another electronic device from them again.
Yeah I was not impressed with their phone support either. All these companies not only outsourcing to India but only allowing the support person to use scripted conversation is even worse.
I called to deregister a device since I forgot to deregister before returning a NC and the lady was an idiot reading from a script she didn't even understand.
Roku is another horrible company for India scripted phone support.
Unfortunaley India gets beat up a lot by Americans for this when it might not be so bad if the scripts were taken away and they just hired smarter people.
I got mine at best buy, and getting it replaced for the phantom ghost tap issue was easy as pie. The new one works great. The girl at the counter was kinda cute too, so it was like win-win!

My wife and I both got a NC, same store, about a month apart. Both of ours work perfectly.
Don't assume because you had 2 problematic NC's doesn't mean everyone has, or that overall quality is bad. (Yes, I said 2.)
The only issue with my screen is some binding/pinching where the bezel meets the LCD which causes slight bright spots at the bottom edge. I've seen this same issue with lower quality LCD monitors. Otherwise pleased with screen quality. Having worked in electronics manufacturing, I came to learn how variable quality control can be with some manufacturers.
Best Buy has one month reuturns but after that your screwed unless u buy insurance. my 1st NC ate an 8 gig microUSB and started bleeding by the vol. B&N took sent another straight away with postage paid for the return. NO PROB and they do have a vibrant screen from all angles.
a case would keep your nook safe from most screen probs, and be shure to line up your mcards.

Technically yes, but they will help with warrenty issues after that date to some degree as well.

I did buy the insurance, but didn't have to use it even though it was something like 45 days or more after I bought it. I brought it in planning to use the insurance (which is a one time shot apparently), but she told me they could just do it as a warranty exchange since it was so new. I'm not really sure how long they extend it for, but I was happy.

Wow, yeah, my post was just soooo long.
If you read it, it said I had three bad nooks (Yes, I said 3). I never said everyone has bad ones. I said I won't buy from them again because their support sucks and their products are defective.
Maybe next time you comment on a post, read it first.
My first NC was defective. It had a bad accelerometer and/or a bad power button. Essentially, if you set it down occasionally it would act as if you pressed and held the power button and then tapped OK to shut down the tablet.
Here's a vid I took of it to convince the BN store staff I wasn't going nuts:
YOUTUBE DOT COM/watch?v=Zfit4oG4WaA
I'd bought the extended warranty but this happened within the first week of ownership. I talked to the manager of the store where I bought it and she swapped it for a new one and applied the warranty to NC #2. I'd heard the phone support was horrible, so made it a point to buy it locally. I'm glad I did.
I'm loving my new one. I'm going to Hawaii in a week and, for the first time in my life, will be travelling without a laptop. All I'm taking is my NC and a BT keyboard for it.
Are you sure you had a problem? Because khaytsus bought one for himself and his wife and didn't have any issues LOL
Wow, good thing the store owner was helpful. The guy on staff at my local BN refused to do anything and said all returns or exchanges definitely needed to go through the website.
I'm still not happy with my current Nook. The panel below the "N" button is depressed on both sides. But I'm sticking with it for now.
Backlight bleeding is pretty much the norm for any LCD screen. I've seen it on desktop monitors, TVs, laptops, tablets...etc. It will exist on even on the top of the line models and "best" brands.
If you just have only some slight backlight bleeding, I would discourage you from trying to exchange it. You're likely to get something worse like dead pixels.
I spent half an hour one the support line a second ago because my USB cable fried. The lady tried to have me enter my credit card number for some reason so I could buy "NOOKBooks". I argued with her for about 5 minutes and then she told me all I need to enter is my shipping address. She said that they would mail the replacement cable free of charge in 24 to 48 hours.
I didn't spend anytime on hold even though the automated message said that they are flooded with tech support calls.

Smarter people ask for a lot of money (if they are paying more money then whats the point of outsourcing) even in India only those who can't really find another job for themselves take up job's in call center's.
well I just returned my nook with a transformer incoming... i sure hope it has as good of a screen or ill prob end up another nook. lol
I know this is about the PHONE...but its quality and likableness have been dramatically reduced by the awful Motorola customer service. Thus far I have yet received one workable solution. On the phone they normally kick me to another department or play some robot answer. With live chat and email I always get the exactly the same answer...sorry about the inconvenience, we will our best to assist and then lots of phone numbers being listed.
And all accessories do not deliver on time...
Am I alone on this?
No. Not alone
Customer service has been absolutely horrible for quite a few people.
They really need to train the call center people better, give them more power to solve problems.
Never promise to call someone back. Putting them on hold until someone can get on the line to solve the problem is always better.
Good customer support is becoming more and more rare these days. I think the only people who have been helpful is the GoDaddy phone support... and support for a Wordpress plugin called Nimble Porfolio. They're awesome. Everything else has been so disappointing... AT&T, Motorola, Google, etc etc. You name it, chances are their customer support sucks.

Looking into my wifi issue, they asked if I had another phone I could talk to them on while I wiped the cache partition. When I asked if they could call me in an hour (I had no idea how long it would really take me and was growing tired of their BS) they said I had to call back.
Granted this was after I almost ripped level 1's head off because my cat had accidentally run across the keyboard, deleting the reference number and they couldn't find it again and actually admonished me for losing it. ("If you had kept the number you'd already be talking to level 2 sir")
I've given up on Moto support, just going off what I find here.
Oh and the chat said the Idle Battery Drain issue was "Common to all Android Phones"
I agree with you guys customer service has been horrible. I ordered my Moto X through Moto Maker on the 1st and recieved my phone on the 5th. Which was awesome except the phone they sent me was defective. The touch screen would not repsond to touch. I actually am not able to turn it off (It's still on right now) I called customer service and they did not believe me that the phone was bad right out of the box and they asked me if i dropped it and asked me to reboot and do all sorts of stuff to the phone even though I kept telling them the touch screen was not responsive. They finally gave me 2 options the fast way or the slow way. They said I could pay full price for a new phone and send back the defective one and once they got that they would refund me. My second option was to mail back my new defective phone and wait a week or 2 until they send me the new code to order another phone. After I told them I'm not sure of their quality anymore the operator assured me the new phone they were sending me would be guaranteed to work. I asked why my first phone wasn't guaranteed to work she politely informed me that they were still not sure if it didn't work and that I may not know how to use my phone.
This customer service experience is sad and I expected more for Motorola besides a $ 25 Google play gift card. Now I'm out $1,000 and still don't have a working Moto X.

The "user is an idiot" is a typical mind set in ATT/Motoland
i can't even begin to describe the scars i have from dealing with their Support. it's chaotic and confusing.
Phone fell today. Demolished. Screen got cracked all over the place. Housing chipped. Filed an RMA with Motorola just to see what would happen. Was figuring best case scenario they charge me $175 to replace it. I've had it maybe 2 or 3 weeks.
After not even an hour I get emails back and one of them is a code to order a new one NO CHARGE.
I listed the damage as Physical>Other and gave the description: Phone fell.....screen and housing are both messed up. Doesn't power on.
Do you think this is free, or when they actually see the phone are they going to charge me? I don't even mind if it is $175 I feel stupid as **** for dropping the phone and really can't afford to buy a new one. However, I'd obviously take free too lol.

Only time will tell, with the recent buyout and some Moto employees likely getting laid off in the near future they may just not care. They could have also hooked you up for just being honest.

The buyout isn't even approved yet and won't be for some time. This is almost 100% not the reason.
I'm willing to bet he ends up paying as the system is most likely automated and when someone sees the physical damage they will comes looking for cash.

But the worst case scenario should be $175 right?
The message did have a name at the end of it, although I'm sure it could still have been automated and at the very least is pre-written.
If they try and charge me full price I WILL fight that lmao. $175 I'll argue a little since they said free of charge in the email but I know it was human error so I'd ultimately relent and pay it if they ask.
EDIT: I feel like if it was automated the fact that I chose Physical damage as the reason would prohibit it from sending out the free code right away. Know what I mean? If you charge $175 for physical damage why would you have the system automate a free code for an RMA filed as physical.
very good point. Maybe they are being nice

This... RMAs are for returns. Once they see you're returning a busted device they'll hit you up for payment. I'm curious to know how it turns out; keep us updated.

I asked for a repair. There is a separate option for merchandise return.
A return merchandise authorization (RMA) or return goods authorization (RGA) is a part of the process of returning a product in order to receive a refund, replacement, or repair during the product's warranty period.

The logic with what I did and how their site works is really supporting that they know I damaged it and gave me the free replacement. Now it is just a waiting game to see if they change their tune.

They don't have to change their tune. A repair in this case is anything covered under warranty. For instance, you're just using your phone normally and one day the screen goes haywire... suddenly no external sound... cannot connect to wifi... stops charging... those sort of things. Hardware or software defects that are beyond your control.
I am sure with the volume of devices coming and going, they are not sitting there and spell checking each and every RMA that comes in. They have their own review process and for the sake of customer satisfaction they expedite the process automatically till it can be fully reviewed.
But still please keep us updated.

As of right now I have a free replacement. So if they decide to charge me, that'd be a change of tune.
Also, they clearly state on their warranty page that they support in AND out of warranty repairs and that out of warranty repair can be applied for online, which is exactly how I did it.
Link
Now there is no question they can wind up trying to charge me, but they are doing everything they can to imply that isn't what they want to do.
EDIT:
But anyway I'm not trying to say their system is working the right way or that I deserve a free replacement. I'm just making my own observations on the situation. I don't feel like arguing about it. Let's see what happens, but most companies don't offer free replacements, allow you to make/ship the phone THEN chase you down to pay.

The only game changer would be if you bought the $85 two-year protection plan. But you haven't brought that up so I'm left to assume you did not.
But once again, please keep us updated. That form does imply some type of flat-rate replacement service... but it says nothing about giving you a brand spanking new device.
I cracked my nexus 6 on the corner yesterday. I bumbled it while getting out of the car. I thought I saved it as I was able to handle it all the way down to about 2-3 inches from the ground but couldn't fight it off. It finally left my hand and dropped corner first onto the concrete. The tempered glass looks to be holding it together but it's a hideous sight so I plan on using my moto care to get it replaced. What's the process as I've never used it before.
Well so far this process has been a huge pain in the ass. I've been on the phone for about 1.5-2 hours. They can't find my IMEI number in the system.
first they asked me to email the receipt and they would call me back. I asked them why I couldn't just give them the order number of the phone, or the moto care contract number. They said they could do that. After that they still couldn't find my information so they had to escalate me. Once escalated they still couldn't find my information but they said to give them 24 hours.
I'll update more as the saga continues. So far NOT satisfied......

so far the update is that the IMEI is not in their system and they have to get it updated in their database properly. They said it could take them some time. Definitely does not sound promising. Thank god the phone is still functional. Perhaps you can be pro-active and get them to make sure your phone is in the system properly so when the time comes, replacing your device will be much easier.

Which is hilarious because they sold you the device and I'm pretty sure require the IMEI to purchase moto care. I had the same problem on 2 separate devices from them. Make sure they transfer your moto care to your replacement as well (they won't).

Thanks for the update. Would've been nice to hear better things. Maybe posting to their Twitter account will get more action, and more attention, once it's out there for more then just the community here to see.
I did check my Certificate of Coverage that was emailed after Moto Care purchase and my IMEI is listed as "Serial Number". A call to them to confirm might be a good idea.

Wouldn't want to even think about that. I waited very patiently for my white 64gb, I'd be rather disheartened if they messed up the replacement. Glad to hear it sounds like it's all good, for now... fingers crossed that the worse is over for you.

Thanks, my recommendation to everyone with moto care is to be proactive and make sure your phones are in the system properly so when the time comes everything is smooth.
My experience was totally painless with motocare.
I purchased my n6 off of Craigslist. When I got home, I dropped my phone on the tile floor and cracked the screen. I signed up for motocare, and within 12 hours I got an email conformation everything was set up.
I started a claim online, and a new phone was shipped overnight to me.
I packaged up my old phone and overnighted it back to Motorola.

Did you get a brand new phone with accessories? I just received my replacment phone and just the phone came in a bubble wrap package. no screen film on the front or the camera. There are minute (very very small) grooves on the bottom of the phone. You can't see them but you can feel them. These don't exist on my previous phone. For some reason I expected a brand new phone when using moto care

I believe the phone I received was refurbished. It did not have any film on the screen. However it came in a new box with the paperwork and fast charger.
Just picked up an XT1064 (the Consumer Cellular version) and it has the traditional black back cover on it and I'm a fan of yellow and black so, I spent the past 2 hours trying to track down one of the OEM "lemon-lime" back covers for the Moto G 2nd gen model and was unsuccessful. Seems crazy that they'd just disappear from the face of the earth but whatever so...
If anyone out there happens to have an actual Motorola OEM Lemon-Lime back cover for the Moto G 2nd gen XT1064 I'd be interested in acquiring it from you given the price isn't too crazy insane or if anyone can point me in the direction of actually locating one online from a reseller that would be awesome as well. I tried dozens of online sources and got nowhere, not even eBay has it in any of a dozen countries I checked against. Not sure why they're so hard to find but I suppose they just weren't all that popular.
Yes I realize there are other companies making yellow or similar replacement back covers but I always prefer to get the OEM hardware above cheap knockoff products. I don't intend to use a case on this phone, hence me just wanting the lemon-lime factory back cover.
Admins/Mods: if this post isn't allowed then by all means delete it as required.
Thanks for any help in tracking one of these back covers down, happy holidays to all...
Hello!
I am from brazil and its fairly easy to get one of these around here.
I also have a Moto G 2014.
I can buy the cover and then ship it to you, add me in whatsapp if you're interested. +55 21 96821-8571.
Kind Regards.
I don't use WhatsApp so I guess that won't work but thanks for the offer.

Already got rid of the Moto G 2nd gen, got a 3rd gen now and of course in looking for the yellow shell for this phone it's out of stock everywhere as well. I've never seen anyone using a yellow shell except me on any Moto phone and yet I can't find 'em anywhere, that's just weird.
Anyway, can't find one for the Droid Turbo 2 I have either, guess I'll just give up and live with things the way they are.
Actually I have one. Bought 2 years ago at ebay.co.uk.
Green and yellow isn't the best color. In few weeks it became dirty with a lot of dust on the inside.
So I stopped use it.
Oh, and it makes the phone bulkier than stock one.
